May Goal: 125 miles + daily strength

    * My back suddenly went into intense sciatic pain this past week, so I've had some issues with strength. Oddly, I can walk, but anything that makes a sitting motion, including sitting itself, is painful. :disappointed:

Oh wow. I saw that you found some exercises on Hasfit for sciatica. Hope they help!

Oh jeepers, Can you see a chiropractor? My Hubby has issues with that too and daily stretching and seeing a chiropractor helps a lot.

    Goals:
75.53 out of 90 miles tracked
Apple Watch: close all 3 rings 4 times. Goal Archived!!!🏆🏅

It looks like I'm going to have to boost my mileage to try and close in on my goal.
Our weather is hot and muggy for May. Which means early morning walks outside for me.

I wish @Deeder522! My chiro isn't open yet. Not sure I want someone that close to me anyway. I'm just trying to get by with YouTube exercises and stretches for now. My work chair is killing me, I keep trying to get up and walk around, but we have to stay away from everyone, so this is all very challenging and not in a good way.

My last semester of classes has started and I am not sure whether I am ecstatic or sad. Maybe a bit of both??? Of course, since it is my last semester, the college would totally change our online learning system so I had to spend a lot of time learning the new one! :ohwell: I guess they want to make sure I always remember that teachers are students first!

Oh my gosh Deeder, what is it with this weather???? It snowed last week on Monday and yesterday it hit 80F (26.7C). We had the heat on Sunday night and put the AC on yesterday! It's too hot to walk outside or inside :grumble:

@zichab Oh, wow, what is that video's name? I've been racking my brain trying to remember some of the old ones that were so very good. Especially a good one with strength in it. I did a search online for a list of her workouts and ironically it brought up a post here on the Leslie group from 2014. A member, TeaBee I think was the name had found or compiled a list. But it only went to 2010. Incredible how many she has made. I hope she has many more in her. :) I am concerned that she only leads one mile in the new set she just put out. She is now 57 or 58 now. That's waaaay too young to quit now! ;)

The title of the video is Walk Away the Pounds: Walk Strong and it says it is part of a "Weight Loss Series." It has GAIAM in the upper left hand corner so it might have been produced for them? They walk 3 minutes, pick up the weights for 3 minutes and then walk for 3 minutes weight 3 minutes etc. It says 2006 on my copy which is 14 years ago!!! Man that is hard to believe!

There has been a fair amount of complaining on her You Tube Channel along the lines of "Where is Leslie?" A lot of people do not seem to like Nick as the face of WAH and want Leslie back. My thinking is that the majority of her audience is over 50, or just getting into fitness, or hate exercising and need a "no excuses" exercise program (all of which applied to me :blushing: ). They may be trying to change that image, hence all the streaming instead of DVDs and the new online content? I am not sure Nick is the way to change the direction, but time will tell. I can't watch him-he bugs me. She should have gotten Bryana Servedio to be the face of her new program. Now that girl has energy and charisma! You are right though, Leslie is way too young to be passing the baton unless she has a health problem that we do not know about. :frown:

    Walk Strong Everyone!

25 minutes with Jenny Ford tonight out on the back porch. I did her stepping in Washinton DC. and she mentioned that it was muggy there. Understood lady, it's muggy here too. lol

@zichab: My back porch registered 94 this afternoon. I didn't get my workout until a little after 8 pm when it cooled into the high 70's.

I've seen a fair amount of complaining in one of the Walk At Homes Facebook groups from time to time. I looked Leslie up and she is in her late 50's. I wonder if she is just trying to move others to the front so she can retire. I'm ok with Nick for some but I don't like Rocky.

Oh wow, having to learn a new online learning system! You have my sympathy.

Well, I have made my mileage goal, but did not log in every day . Too much craziness this month between MI, MY and now Mn! :frown:

@Deeder522 Oh my gosh 94F???? We never got that high and today we can't seem to hit 68F!!! I've lived in MI for 21 years and I have never the seen the weather this volatile before. Generally, once it gets hot, it gets Midwest hot and stays that way until October unless there is a mighty Midwest storm! My son went to college in the middle of Iowa and it was the same there, except that the wind blows constantly so it does not always feel as hot as the thermometer says it is.

@zichab - I found that workout on Amazon. Thanks. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out with Leslie;s empire. Oh wow, having to learn a new online learning system! You have my sympathy.

LOL thanks Ann! It has turned out OK and so far, the students and I are being very patient with each other. Of course, now I have to figure out how to incorporate a discussion about the death of George Floyd into this new platform along with COVID 19. :noway: We just cannot catch a break this year as it is one thing after another. I should have been a Math teacher!

    Walk Strong Everyone!

    May 28: about 30 minutes a very slow 5 Day Slim Down-classic mile & w/u, c/d & stretching
May 29 & May 30: Rest days, something went terribly wrong- both ankles and feet very swollen and hurting

May 24: Rest day (still some swelling but less painful)

Well, I did it again and failed to post more often as was my goal to do. I am sorry that I wasn't here. I have read your posts for this month, and everyone did so well! Congratulations on all the amazing goals met or exceeded as well as every mile or minute done toward a goal no matter the end result. You all are super-stars!

I did do my best to be active every non rest day and to increase walking times or intensity as tolerated when walking outdoors. But it has been hard because my ankle(s)/ feet are not doing well, although compared to when this started in December they are doing better, in some ways. I'm grateful that they are definitely not constantly as painful. But it has been discouraging because not being able to do aerobic type of exercise (like LS miles) or walk outdoors like I used to do has been very difficult for me.
Leslie talks about the benefits of the increased endorphins we get while exercising, and I'm so lacking in that area now and have to fight to not slip into increasing discouragement. Working outdoors as tolerated these past months has been extremely helpful. But sitting more has definitely not been good for me physically or mentally, but needed way too often. I am hoping to change things up next month, if possible, since most of the specific garden/ yard projects are finished. It will be mostly maintenance or finding something that I can add in or do outside somewhere. And of course our summer heat will be upon us soon. May had been unusually wet and cooler for us this year!! It was wonderful! I'll be working on finding more indoor projects for the summer, and I'm going to try out something different so that I can increase my exercise inside. Walking outside has been hard on my feet/ ankles. But I need to continue to build back up my endurance stamina... so I will continue.
We're forecast to finally break into triple digit heat ☀🌡 this week  oh, my  . So I will have to get back into planning outdoors work or walking for very early morning again. I love the very early mornings outside during the hot summer/ early autumn months.
    See you all in June...

    Walk walk walk 🏃‍♀️....
