5/17-WAH-Hips and Thighs-2 miles=57.1 miles total@zichab That does sound like a silver lining. I also agree with strength training. I'm good for maybe 3 reps before my ADD kicks in. Jessica Smith has some training videos on Youtube that I've had good luck getting through.
I used to do some workouts with Jessica and her Mom before I found Leslie. I'll check out her strength videos. Thanks for the tip!VeggieGirlforLife wrote: »@zichab Have you tried any Tabata strength? They're so fast you don't have time to think. It's not about reps, it's 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest, repeat. The rest part is over so fast and you're right back into it. As soon as you even think abut being bored, they switch to a different move and you're back to the work, work, work, rest, work, work, work. I especially like any workouts that include upbeat music!
No I haven't. Generally, I do not have ADD in any other area, but working out is not my favorite thing to do so focus becomes a real issue when things get repetitive. I will investigate Tabata and try it out. Thanks for letting me know!
We had a new countertop installed Friday and my sink will not be hooked up until tomorrow and I have to run downstairs to the laundry sink to do dishes. Since I did a lot of school work yesterday, it occurred to me that my mileage is from running up and down the two flights of stairs in this house! Maybe I need to keep my kitchen out of commission for a while longer! :noway:

@VeggieGirlforLife
Quote: My friends @AnnofB and @zichab, I guess I'm in the minority! I have learned to really like strength training since I committed to doing it daily. I used to hate it and sometimes I find it very challenging, but I would honestly rather do it than walk anymore. It takes less time and I actually feel stronger. I really love arm days the best and I can see muscle definition now which is new for me as I've always had skinny arms. HASfit has some really fun videos that they made for people who get bored and they move fast, so I enjoy those, but I also like the ones that are slow and controlled on days when I'm too hot or don't have as much energy.
I do like yoga and am thinking about looking into Pilates again. Looking back when I first started MFP I was doing light weights lots of reps (It was an add on workout to an old step workout by Cathe Friedrich. ) I got results. I have some DVD's by Kelly Coffee-Meyer and Jessica Smith, as well as the Cathe one and I throw in some yoga too. Not a fan of strength, obviously, but I know I need it and I want to be strong and mobile for as long as I'm bless to be here on this earth.
You are one strong lady!0 -

A second day of running up and down 2 flights of stairs has definitely increased my mileage! The plumber came today to hook up my sink so I guess this is the end of my 3 miles in the house! :ohwell:
@VeggieGirlforLife -I checked out Tabata briefly and I need to find ones that are not up and down. They were done with the whole set before I got off the floor! I looked into Jessica Smith's for a bit as well. I think I am going to focus on aerobics and Leslie's & Jessica's strength workouts for now and once we move and all the chaos dies down, I am going to seriously get into some Tabata strength workouts. I've got to work on my flexibility obviously!
@AnnofB I have the same problem with Yoga as I have with strength training-my mind wanders to all the things I should be doing. I was big into it in the 70s when it was all the rage, but got out of it when I was pregnant with my son. I tried to go back to it, but it just did not seem the same. My daughter-in-law loves it and she keeps trying to get me back into it. Again, maybe once we move and I have less to think about all the time, it will work better for me. I am not giving up!
Welcome @Pam3!
Walk Strong Everyone! :bigsmile:0 -
I’m baaaaack. So happy. Yesterday 1 hour walk outside and 9,682 steps. 😁2

@zichab - Playing Barbies over Face Time with my granddaughter is cutting into my workouts! Honestly, the one thing I have loved about this worldwide pandemic is that I can talk to and play with my children and grandchildren virtually everyday! My daughter-in-law is so grateful because I play with my 6 year old granddaughter while my daughter-in-law makes dinner and it saves her from having to use the TV or a device to keep her busy. I guess this is the silver lining right?
I meant to comment on this earlier but forgot I love it! That is so wonderful that you can talk and play with the grandchildren every day. There's a lot not to love about technology sometimes, but when it works like it should its a real godsend. Not surprised you DIL loves it too, hee-hee.0 -

@zichab - About yoga; I didn't really discover I liked it till after I retired. I think I was just too keyed up then to enjoy the slow pace. Of course it matters what kind of yoga and of course who the instructor is. I know Jillian Michaels has made some yoga workouts but I can only imagine what they must be like, ha-ha!! "Get down and give me 50 warrior two's right now! Ok, now on the other side!" I'm afraid I like a more laid back approach.
Is you DIL taking a class or using digital or DVD's?0 -

Notice how those miles fell right off after the plumber came and hooked up my new kitchen sink????
Oh my gosh @AnnofB!! Jillian Michaels???? I want to see her at 70 doing the 30 Day Shred and her version of Yoga????? If she lives through it and can talk afterward, we'll talk!!! Until the pandemic, which hit Netherlands in February, my DIL went to a Power Yoga class two days a week. She has some DVDs, but at the moment, with a 6 year old, 1 year old and teaching 2 college statistics classes online, she does not have time for Yoga or anything else to be honest. She is making it day to day, which is why it has been such a help to have me occupy my granddaughter for a couple of hours. Both of my DsIL are just !!
Hmm there must have been some group and underage "issues." We have never had a whole "community" lecture before. Interesting.

Hello from Canada everyone. Another warm sunny day.
May 18
Walk down your blood sugar- 2 miles
Stretching session
12,439 steps.
I’m happy with that😉2 -
@bacpath
Hello. You're really laying down the those steps.
I know of two ways to do it. One is to go to your last post and click on Quote which is at the bottom of the square, next to the days date. It will immediately copy that post into a new Reply space and you can add to it and delete from it if need be.
I am old school (laptop and mouse) and I just use copy and paste. I go to my last post, using my mouse and left click next to my goal statement, and move on down to the last date and right click and chose copy. Then scroll down to Reply and paste it. After that, you can update your post with your latest workout.
Hope this helps. Not sure how to do it on from other devices. Maybe Brenda (zichab) is using something a lot more advanced than what I'm using and she will post info on that. Anyway, someone is sure to help with that.1 -

Ha-ha. Everyone is always glad to see the plumber, right? Don't worry, there will always be more opportunities to get in more miles if you are a home owner... sometimes it seems highly over-rated, doesn't it?
You DIL has a lot going on... She's lucky to have an MIL like you. I know you can certainly relate to having a jam packed schedule.0 -

My first month as well. I commit to 12,000 steps a day. As well, I will do a Leslie Video a day or walk outside for 1 brisk hour. I put a big X on the calendar when I do this and keeping the chain of X’s unbroken is a visual motivator each day.

You DIL has a lot going on... She's lucky to have an MIL like you. I know you can certainly relate to having a jam packed schedule.
LOL like yesterday I cleaned and then started to pack for the move and ended up with 3 miles in the house!!! I now understand why people in the 60s preferred the ranch style house!!! On another note, our financial advisor told us that we could pack our boxes ourselves to limit our COVID 19 exposure and when we mentioned that we were not allowed to do this before he laughed and said, "Well this is not a military move is it?" :noway: This is our first non-military move and we can move any way we want Ann!!! We are like kids in a candy store!!! It is so exciting ... or as exciting as moving ever is. I think only military people can really appreciate how accustomed we get to following archaic and crazy rules to do everything, including moving!!!
My DIL is saint! She has so much on her plate normally that I have no idea how she also manages the added burden of COVID 19. She just put the kids on a schedule and then she and my son alternate their work schedules between the morning and afternoons and it is all working. My granddaughter is taught English, Math, Science and US History and Politics by her Dad and her Mom teaches her Math, Science, Czech, Czech History and politics. She informed me today that SHE lives in a Kingdom and both of her grandparents live in Republics. She was not happy about that since there are no princesses where we all live. I try to help them in any way that I can as she is thinking all the time. A 6 year old takes a lot of mental energy that is for sure.

Lol about moving any way you want. That was a liberating moment for sure. And how about not having to worry about going over the weight limit, ha-ha. That was a good day at your house.

I commit to 12,000 steps a day. As well, I will do a Leslie Video a day or walk outside for 1 brisk hour. I put a big X on the calendar when I do this and keeping the chain of X’s unbroken is a visual motivator each day.

WOW look at you tracking every day!!! Copy and Paste is wonderful isn't it! I love the idea of unbroken Xs on the calendar. My Mom used to do this when we were little to get us into the habit of brushing our teeth twice each day. It is motivating that is for sure.
The whole weight limit thing was so annoying @AnnofB especially when we had young boys. They have a lot of stuff. Now that I am downsizing from 3,000 sq' to 2,000sq', I am purging a ton of stuff!!! Kids stuff, extra bedroom furniture, a ton of paper that professors collect, a ton of Air Force stuff that he will never need again is all going!!! The heaviest thing we are moving is my books and I cannot part with them. It has been freeing to pack myself, especially with COVID 19 in the mix. :frown: On another note, I found a vidoe that I bought a while ago in my collection and did it today and it is an old one! Mary Kay looks about 20 and Leslie said she "just turned 40!" It's a walk and weight training workout together, kind of the prototype for Tone Every Zone. I am going to keep it in my rotation because she alternates weights and walking so I have to pay attention!
Walk Strong Everyone!

Yeah, the weight limit must have been set up by someone who took a vow of poverty... ha-ha. Purging is such a good feeling. You know it's even been tied to weight loss, and not just from the physical work involved.
Oh, wow, what is that video's name? I've been racking my brain trying to remember some of the old ones that were so very good. Especially a good one with strength in it. I did a search online for a list of her workouts and ironically it brought up a post here on the Leslie group from 2014. A member, TeaBee I think was the name had found or compiled a list. But it only went to 2010. Incredible how many she has made. I hope she has many more in her. I am concerned that she only leads one mile in the new set she just put out. She is now 57 or 58 now. That's waaaay too young to quit now!

* My back suddenly went into intense sciatic pain this past week, so I've had some issues with strength. Oddly, I can walk, but anything that makes a sitting motion, including sitting itself, is painful.1
