I’m first! Yay!
Greetings from sunny South Africa! I’m love summer so am very happy to be heading back that way. Life is getting back to normal for me with various things opening up again in some form so is back to church and gym (I miss my yoga instructor and her Pilates reformer classes most). Most importantly is back on the Jiu Jitsu mats with coach! Work should be opening to the public soon so that will mean full days again, but with all the extra time we worked through lockdown, only one of us needs to stay to lock up so it gives flexibility. Plus with everyone back we can start organising to take leave again!!!
I’m only about 5 kgs from goal weight and with summer and activity back on the table, it should be easier to get there. I have an awesome reward planned for getting back to my fighting weight and its a good motivation. It’s an exercise equipment reward not a food reward!6 -
Hello everyone!
My name is Lisa, and I'm a graduate student living in Ithaca, NY. I'm a devout Crossfitter and never mind being teased about it, haha. I went on a nutrition plan with a coach for 6 months this past year, and lost 35lb. When COVID hit, I gained by 10lb! Very annoying. I'm ready to shed that weight and then some. I'm at 176, I want to get down to at least where I was at 164lb short term; perhaps 158lb long term.
I really hope I can keep up with this group. This is exactly what I was looking for, accountability with like minded folks!
Thank you to the organizers for your work!
Best,
Lisa A.8 -
Hi everyone😁 Looking forward to killing it in Roctober! 👻4

Welcome, Lisa! Oct is my 3rd month. Very seasoned members here w lots of inspiration! All the best in October 🎃🙌🏽3 -
Hi everyone!
My name is Gina. I live in Illinois and have 2 children ( 22yr old boy, 26 yr old girl). My daughter will be having her first baby in January and my husband and I are both so excited to be grandparents! I used to work as a preschool assistant teacher until Covid shut things down. I now am helping a family with their children do remote learning.
I will be 52 this year and feel that my body has changed! I have had back surgery and usually am in pain every day! Its important for me to keep my weight down and also make my core strong to help my back. I was put on Lyrica for my nerve damage and this caused about a 25 pound weight gain, one of the biggest side effects from this med! I have weaned off this med and am trying hard to get my weight back down and exercise every day. I am currently 5'2 and weigh 149 pounds. I would like my first goal to be 135. My ultimate goal would be to get to 120. I haven't seen that weight since 2016!
Thank you for this group and I look forward to meeting all of you. Good luck everyone!5 -
Hi everyone! Back for month #22 in a row. Looking forward to it!6

Hello All:
I came across the UAC a couple of days ago. Seems like a good fit for me. My name is Lee. My husband and I live in Alaska. I was born here and have been fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively. Well, not now in the current situtaion..... Anyway, I am excited about this group5 -
Hello everyone,
My name is Karla, 57 year old, 6'0 tall. I have been on this journey a long time and I am down about 113 lbs from my highest weight, and have around 90 lbs to go to reach my final goal weight.
I found this group yesterday and thought it would be a good one to help me continue to be successful. I am looking forward to this challenge and getting to know this group.

I did a Labor Day challenge and it really gave me the focus I needed to stay on track. I felt like I needed another similar challenge to get back into the swing of things.
History: I lost a bunch of weight post pregnancies, 55 lbs. I stayed active and kept it off until I was 39 and began having health issues that my DO said were only related to approaching middle age. Over the next 6 years my health continued to decline in various ways, I put on about 40 lbs. and my DO kept saying it was all just middle age. There would be times I created a calorie deficit and I would lose 10 lbs. but then stall out and plateau for months only to eventually gain it back.
This year in April I figured out my primary medical difficulty was leaky gut leading to poor nutrient intake and chronic fatigue. I switched up my diet specifically for maintaining good gut health for me, created a calorie deficit, and lost 20 lb. in 5 months. I'm aiming to lose another 10 lbs. by the end of the year.7 -
If you are a noobie for UAC, consider coming over the September Challenge as "practice" while waiting for Oct 1 to roll around (especially if you know you are "only start on Mondays" type ... as Oct 1 happens to be a Thursday this year ..... just sayin' ....)
Either way, we long-termers will be seeing you here in the Oct Group starting Oct 1!

Hi Everyone. I am in my 30's, I am 5'3 and 3/4ths I am re-starting my journey to wellness. The joy of thyroid issues(eye-roll), but I refuse to let it be an excuse. I have a huge goal that I am breaking down to a much more manageable one. I'm working in an educational setting, so my times to eat are very strange and my schedule is completely different from my husbands as he works 2nd or 3rd shift depending on the week. Long term I have about 65lbs to loose. My goal for October is to log all the things and get in at least 9500 steps daily.2

Hi folks. Back in for October. Welcome to our returnees and newcomers,
and a thousand thanks to our leader, @RangerRickL for helping us stay accountable.
I’m Terri from Northern Ireland. Back for my 24th month. WOW! 2 years!!!
Working on improving my fitness and health. Made the Winners Circle 23 times so far.
UAC is a good place for anyone to start the practicing of new habits, in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Through being a member, I have achieved my lowest weight in 4 decades, and have maintained it since late 2019.
Just a few details on my personal journey to health and fitness.
Aim for 2020 ~ maintain at around 150 (I may even manage to drop a little more! 😂WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED
I am FOCUSED on heathy food choices and
DETERMINED to achieve my goals!
Age: 74; Height 5’2”; Female
SW: 227lbs (Mar 2014)
LW: 147.2 (4 April 2020)
UGW: 145 (this may change when I get there 😂 )
CW: 150.6- For the last 3 years I have tended to bounce up and down between 160 - 170. Occasionally I bounced up/down a little more.
- My ideal situation is to maintain < 150
- I use CI/CO and a variety exercise for extra calories.
- Logic would suggest that I have found a natural comfortable weight, and, according to modern BMI calculation, I am in the upper range of normal for my age and height. However, logic doesn't always dictate our desires and feelings. 😂
- Getting and staying healthy and fit requires the development of a permanent lifestyle reset.
- Replacing unhelpful habits with more useful ones is key to to the process.
- Losing weight is only one of the elements.
- Eating healthy and staying actively is not OPTIONAL, but an ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts on weight which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be several lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a permanent lifestyle change for most people.

Hiya. I'm back again after a few months off. I've had a rough time but getting there now. I caught glandular fever and although the illness itself didn't affect me very severely I have been struggling ev]]er since with something like chronic fatigue which has stopped me doing much and really aggravated my depression. My entire health has going backwards so I'm here to do some baby steps into starting to move forward. I've started to get back into looking after myself by going for walks and I've even started a C25K This wipes me out and I have nerve pain afterwards but my body is getting older and I need to push it into shape if I can. Looking forward to working with you all this month. My birthday is in 2 days time so I start this the day afterwards which is good timing :-)8
-
Happy pre-birthday Dave.
This is my first time in a group challenge. For the past two months, I've been doing the monthly plank challenge in the main forums. My elbows were displeased but bore through it.
My weight-loss/body fat lowering progress was halved in the past month. While I realize I'm quite close to maintenance, my goal for this challenge is to see if accountability and a smidgen less food can get me back to my previous rate of body fat loss.
OCT Exercise: Kettlebell (KB) workout program, daily walking, stair climbing and random calisthenics.
OCT Nutrition: Hit my protein macro (40%) at least once a week 😭 Not surpass my carb and/or fat macros more than 3x a week 😪

Oh, and I track everything daily already so this is a moot point for me.
Can't wait for the challenge to start. You all sound like wonderful people 🤗2 -
Hi Everyone!
My name is Maggie and I’m 35. Have 2 kids and work as a Merchant Assistant. I’ve went yo-yo dieting since February when I started keto and realized it was not for me. I gained the same 5 -7 on and off until I broke and said enough. I started running again back in August and try to get in at lease 3 miles 3-5 times a week. I need to add strength training to my program and in October I’m cutting out sugar and alcohol. Lord help my family 😂.
Happy to be part of a challenge group to help keep me accountable and not looking for me to buy something! Best luck and stay strong 👍🏻👍🏻

October 2020 will be my 31st month in UAC. What can I say? I’m a fan❣️
Terrific group of very kind folks 🎉7 -
Hi everyone! I am back for a second month of UAC since this challenge helped me so much last month. I did competitive martial arts for years at a international level, but when COVID hit, all of my competitions and training stopped. I went from training for 3 plus hours a day to being a couch potato. At first I really enjoyed a break and getting to finally eat tons of junk food, but I quickly put on 24 lbs. I have been working hard to get my act together again and have lost 12 lbs in the last couple of months, but I still have a long ways to go. I also enjoy running, yoga, hiking, and cooking healthy vegan versions of comfort foods.6

...also, feel free to send me a friend request if you would like some extra encouragement.1

Hiya from Europe 👋
I've been experimenting with this in August and found it disheartening to be out of Winers Circle relatively soon. 3 passes are not much; 28 days of behaving are a lot! It means taking each day seriously and not slipping off!
I'll make a little experiment: I set my goal on maintaining (though I intend to lose back about 5-7lb) and plan to not eat all my calories back. It's merely for the mental impact and basically the same of setting MFP on losing and eating back everyhing.
September was a month of sort of resting, but I need to get back to working out hard, since this is what kept me sane during the whole pandemic. I just need to take the time to work out during the day and not when everyone's sleeping. Its enough already that I workout from home or that I give the kids a chance to bike along when I'm running. Weather permitting, weekend are family active time: hikes, biking tours, high ropes courses...
I felt like a quitter in September and missed the lovely team I found here. I did quite well, given that I focused on other aspects. Gained at most 3.3 lbs. Yet, I want to be back in the team❣Let's give October a chance!7 -
If we are introducing and bearing soles, here it goes:
- Growing up, I was labeled the “chunky” daughter. At my high, I was 125 lb, and 5’ 4.5”.
- Plenty of various diets over the years plus pregnancies and such.
- Jump to 9/13/01. Two days after 911. The previous weekend, I had gone clothing shopping for an outfit for my impending 40th birthday (a supposed surprise party, but my husband knows better than that). Nothing in the regular clothing department hung right, so I had an ah-ha moment and decided to go to Lane Byant with the theory that they know how to cut clothing for a fuller figure. Guess what, I was too small. For a brief period of time, I recall debating with myself whether I should lose weight to be happy in regular clothing or gain weight so I could be happy in the Lane Bryant options. On 9/13/01, I joined WW with a plan to not give up. I weighed in at 168.8.
- Over the next 9 months, I got down to 140.0 (my then goal) and became WW staff. I worked for them for 12 years with my weight see-sawing from high of 152 and low of 135. In my later years, I worked as many as 13 meetings a week supporting hundreds of members.
- I retired from WW 6 years ago, and began focusing on me. Bit by bit weight went down with tracking and finally embracing the gym. At daughter’s wedding May 2017, I was no higher than 126. Three days later, the trainer that I had connected with at the gym was fired. Wedding motivation gone, and my exercise world gone. Summer 2018, I tried keto. Ending up with a hemorrhoidectomy caused by the constipation (yes, I had underlying tendencies, but Keto did me in). May 2019, somehow, I was at 129 and head was in a good place, but over the past 16 months excuse after excuse got me to 153 lbs. and no exercise.
- Returned to MFP in earnest 9/14/20, one day off from 19 years from joining WW (interesting coincidence – I think it speaks to my finding the fall motivating)
- I turn 59 on Oct 26!

keep going mate. It took me 7 goes before getting into the winners circle :-) This is a great motivator though so good luck with it.

Good morning from Idaho...thought I would join for a bit of needed accountability. I am wanting to lose about 30 pounds but have yet not been consistent to log in my whole day’s food and stay focused to the end of each day. I seem to always start well. I thought at first I would try this challenge all by myself for a month to see if I could do it but now am thinking the best choice is to really commit to one month of getting back to the basics. Thanks to all of your sharing so far!6

Hi, friends! I am looking forward to creating some positive lifestyle changes this month. My ultimate weight loss goal is 30 pounds. During the month of October, I hope to build a solid foundation of daily exercise and meal planning. I am experiencing IBS symptoms after most meals and eliminating trigger foods will be part of my journey this month. I am excited to be undertaking this challenge with all of you.5

Good evening! I joined this month and realized I’ve never cleared out any of my past challenge groups! I have UAC threads back to 2016! And the last one was exactly a year ago... I fall off the bandwagon when I don’t have an event coming up. I seem to be able to focus on no more than a couple projects at a time - and health maintenance definitely falls in the project category for me because I’m lousy with any kind of maintenance. Just ask the beau who does most of the house cleaning 🥰
On the good side, I’m still about where I usually am - mid 180s and just jumped from my size 16s to my size 14s. But I can’t recall the last time I wore size 12. That’d be a welcome goal! But more importantly this time I’ve been focusing more on the healthier eating. Someone else mentioned leaky gut - not sure if that’s an issue for me or not, but it is a potential with hypothyroid which I DO have... so for the past month or so I’ve gone gluten free, low sugar, minimal dairy and have given up sodas entirely (Diet Coke was my biggest challenge to give up!)
And as for the event? Well, here’s hoping it’s an April cruise if they can figure out how to safely test and board the ships by then!4 -

@dewit
When I began my weight loss journey, I admitted to myself that I was gaining 2lbs most months. SO, I focused on portion sizes & maintaining. I counted maintaining as a TWO POUND loss, as I took the time to clean out my unused kitchen, stock food, measure out portions.
Slow & gradual change works. It’s most difficult in the beginning. Self-kindness works best.
YOU are a Winner just by being here & posting each day. Period.3
