On the 15th, we take our focus off our scales and celebrate other positive effects of our commitment to healthy habits. Those are Non Scale Victories, NSVs.

My NSV for December is being able to keep up with my wife, Rose. Last weekend, she chose a “moderate” rated hike. I had to do a round trip which included using the rope in the accompanying photo.

Pass day #2 or is it 1? Either way, it was so worth it. I earned tenure this spring at my college and my book will be out in June 2021. My loved ones hosted a zoom jam fest last night and sent food and dranks so bt the collards, mac n cheese, chicken, corn bread, and other fixins...and dranks, calories went awry. Tried to mitigate it with yoga and walks but alas lol. No regrets and onwards to today's healthier/cleanish eating14

@ForLangston Congrats on the tenure and book! Those accomplishments are well worth a celebration.
@RangerRickL I'm impressed with the rope climbing. Also, what an interesting area to hike with all those weathered rocks.

I went shopping today. It was horrible but it is all done now and the shops will only get worse (especially since the beaches are closed for the festive season thanks to COVID). Anyway, I’m working 10 of the next 11 days so there won’t really be time to go shopping.
Food choices were good today and I’m under goal nicely. Exercise was morning Pilates reformer class and evening Jiu Jitsu. Planned and prepped food for the next 5 days of work so that I have no excuse for healthy options.
My nsv this month is the fact that even when I don’t hit the goals perfectly with regard to logging or being under budget, I still stay within a reasonable range. It is rare for me to have a serious binge session. Being able to stay in a reasonable range even on the bad days when things don’t go to plan or I crave something is how I will maintain once I’ve lost these last few kgs.9 -

WOW! Arizona has some crazy hiking places for sure! I visited Sedona a few times years ago and it was amazing. Climbing tho definitely not my forte (deathly afraid of heights)
Dec NSV got my BEST mile split time ever (since I started recording anyway) of 8:52 and icing on the cake? That was mile 7 of a 7 mile run with negative splits all the way!

I can't believe we are essentially half way through the month. Do I wish I had all of my passes left? Absolutely but not having to throw in the town from some small screw ups is so much more valuable. I can certainly tell some clothing feels looser although I was lighter than I am now quite recently so i tend to be hard on myself. I measured on Sunday, 2 weeks after starting the healthy living trend and dropped only about half an inch on my chest and a quarter inch on my rear end (not sure that's an actual thing to measure). It was less than I'd hoped but progress is progress.
We are flying tomorrow so we are staying at a hotel near to the airport vs having to get up even earlier and make the longer trek. Our hotel is actually attached to an 18th century palace which is super cool.
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Despite our pre-travel day I just completed a HIIT workout that lasted 37mins. We also walked nearly 12k steps today.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yep, did surprisingly well.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yeppers
1 pass left for the month.8 -

I am just starting to feel better and get my energy back. I tested negative for COVID but had some kind of respiratory infection. We quarantined just in case the result was a false negative.
I pop in every so often and had to read all the NSVs.
I’m eating healthy and just taking it easy.
I hope to be back in full force soon.

My favorite part of these groups is reading everyone's NSV.!
Well done everyone.

Have used 1/3 passes today.
Cannot wait for a good workout tonight. Have walked dogs alot today in the cold(cold for us...lol) and drizzle. Weill be doing some of my fave at home workouts zumba...and I will try to do some cardio kickboxing too... BORING at home by myself...but I'm going to try. If I can get the 20 yr old son to try it...that would be icing on the cake. Anyway - with 7 doggo clients here(all so cute) it will be fun.7 -

Exersized-?yes
Caleries?-yes
Logged?-yes
My NSV is after not being able to walk for most of the yr due to my foot being broken and then surgery. I've been walking again for the past couple month. Also I was able to cross my left leg over my right. Havent done that in a while.6 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. 30 minutes of strength training with 8 & 10 lbs weights
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?
Yes I did. I even had calories left over (before my workout) to have one homemade chocolate chip cookie.
Progress picture: left was the start of my journey in June (pant size 22-24) and right (pant size 16) was on the tenth of this month. I may stumble and even fall flat on my face at times. No matter what I get up and keep going. Don't give up on yourself! You got this!

Though I know weight numbers are not the primary focus for us here in the UAC, I want to share that for November (a fairly challenging calorie month) I managed to get rid of 7.2 pounds, and for the October Challenge another -5.0. I am now weighing slightly less than October 2019, which seems like a miracle. Target weight is in sight (129-130 – weight at my nephew’s May 2019 wedding) and doable in the next couple months. I am grateful for the results. Also notable for the November UAC, I entered and walk/ran a virtual 5K. I looked at the results and I came in 154/357 for total entries, 87/234 female, and 19/87 over 50 female. I would have been happy if I even came in last, because I entered. Being in the top 50% is super motivating even though I know this kind of race is not full of competitive runners.
So now for my December UAC. I am starting by raising my daily target calories by 50, and will be re-evaluating this every 10 days, as I want to start easing into my eventual maintenance calories. I don’t want to get go from lower calories to higher calories in a single day. I will be trying my best for the Winner’s circle, but need to be realistic and will at least commit to showing up daily and aiming to be a champion and aim to clean off 2 more pounds during December. Then, during my next 9 days in the Keys, I plan to walk/run to Sombrero Beach and even try to get you a sunrise photo (will take some planning ) and get back home. Google maps claims the distance is 3.3 miles each way. At for the rest of the month, my brain can only cope with planning til the 12th. Will regroup again once up north again.
BTW in November, I did not opt for eating back my “exercise” calories like I had planned. My problem with the method of eating back each day’s exercise calories is that that calorie number not compatible with advance planning and tracking, and I like to plan and pre-track my days. So this is the reason I am going try upping my planned daily calories instead and that way I can continue with the pre-tracking that works well for me.
Here we go!

*** MFP considers me under my calories for the day, but I am still currently not eating back exercise calories. So, Pass #1 used, but worth it – Oysters Rockefeller, and dinner of Seared scallops over Succotash with asparagus and a bacon ju. Lovely meal – no drinks or dessert. Ironic part is I was hungry by the time I got home. Speculating is that I will not make the winner’s circle this month, but still going to keep it in mind cause you never know.

*** got in exercise before showering and packing, and then, when we discovered the airport restaurant was not open due to lack of customers, my “healthy planned airport dinner” became a boar’s head snack pack from newsstand, plus two airline cheez-its and 100 cal pack of skinny pop. Macros were not great, but calories stayed under goal!!
