On the 15th of every month, we celebrate Non-scale Victories (NSVs). These can be anything positive that is going on in your life and health.
5 -
For me, I was very happy to shop in my own closet and have clothing that I owned fit again.9
-
None of the NSV's relating to size, clothes, fitness etc. as I put on weight over the last three months, but since I am back on MFP and UAC, my black mood has lightened, I am happy to be back in a healthy and constructive routine again. I also sleep better since I chucked all alcohol for this month, that pernicious glass of "Oh, I must have a drink" in the evening, which usually turned into two or three ...13

NSV DAY!!
I am gaining confidence as an artist,
I have better self-talk about how I look, and am gaining confidence there, too!
I am reaching out & making/connecting with friends!10 -
I'm back on track today after three days of stress. We had a powerful windstorm and were without power. I have a very difficult time staying on track with my diet during stressful times. It's something that I need to think about and try to come up with a plan. Today, we are back to normal and I'm back at tracking, planning and getting some exercise.10

Oh, how I feel like giving it up today 😞. Hope to come back with good news, though 😉 - there's a "Crazy-at-home" workout calling my name. 🔊 Gotta finish work first, though 🤷♀️. Then the homeschooling 👩🏫. Then... will see 🤦♀️9

Walked to the dentist and back this morning (annual checkup with an all clear which gives me points on my insurance) and did yoga and abs. Some shopping got hijacked by coffee with my friend but that was good. Then had the man over for supper. My anti social cat was purring in his arms within an hour so I guess he is accepted!
Umm, does acquiring a new man count as an nsv?
I definitely have good exercise related nsvs this month. Everything has just been working better, I’m moving better on the mat and not getting stuck in certain positions, I’m more flexible and doing more pushups, I’m faster on my runs and I’m gradually getting my asthma under control. I know that the daily yoga helps but also my weak areas are getting strong enough to not hold me back as much.14 -
Friday 15th January:
3 x Yes, a really good day.
Walked for about 50 minutes, got a whole lot of stuff done today, some things I had been putting off for ages.
Stayed under calories, made really nice potato and spinach curry.
Logged everything.
Off to Aix en Provence tomorrow for another spot of examining. I cannot come back on the same day after the exams, so I am staying overnight in a hotel in Marseille, not a bad thing, although I have to be careful with food.
Have a nice weekend everyone!5 -
Feeling stronger and more determined to push myself, have noticed I'm less achy since I have been doing more aerobic and strength exercise
Exercise yes 10 min quigong, 20 min yoga, 20 min Leslie sansone, 3x20 min walk to work, 120 min cleaning
Tracking yes calories yes6 -

Can't remember the last time I didn't want to get off the floor after finishing a workout 😂. Why she put the standing stretching first and the lying dow at the end, I wouldn't know 🤷♀️. The workout was not just crazy! 😓💪😃
I guess this is a NSV. Which comes at the right time, since my relationship with the scale this week was truly love-hate: I retained water after the hike at the weekend, then "lost" the 2lbs, then another 2 after the surgery 😲 and now I'm back to the start, except I hadn't been hiking 😂. Well, girls' stuff. 🙃
Enjoy your day and the weekend, Team! 🙌6 -
Not related to NSV, but killed two birds (or rather cats) with one stone today.

Summer
@summerskier Haha, nope no checkup. My cats are indoor cats. They are walked daily on leashes, but I also have a stroller that I use from time to time. So today, "the boys" and I went 2.76 miles (40 minute walk), came home and then we walked a bit more wearing their harnesses (which I do not count as activity - it's just life). I had a photo of my watch as well, but I had a heck of a time just posting the one pic, and it was the better of the two.4 -
Another day done. I got my walk in and stayed within my calories.

YES, YES, YES
No NSVs, unless feeling like you went 10 rounds with tag team wrestlers counts as one. I woke up feeling like I wrestled all night and then was beat with a stick. <ugh> I don't know--maybe I did something right activity wise in order to feel like this. So NSV perhaps?6 -
BTW @Dory_42 Is this new man part of your New Year's resolutions? Congratulations on finding someone you like being with!5

Exercise: yes, bike ride 35 minutes, cardio 40+ minutes

Thanks again for all the kind comments yesterday. As I’m in the UK, a few hours ahead of those of you in the States my post is usually one of the early ones so every evening I go back and read the rest of yesterday’s. (And from the day before).
@MadisonMolly2017 thank you for taking the time to really think of some helpful suggestions. I like the idea of taking a photo every day. I have heard recently of the idea of taking an “awe walk” where you deliberately look around and find something awe-inspiring in your environment. It could be the scenery – mountains, trees etc or it could be flowers/ gardens. But it can also be man-made – buildings, bridges etc. It’s supposed to be very good for mental health to do this even just once or twice a week. Last year in the first lockdown I took quite a lot of photos on my bike rides and put them on WhatsApp for the family to see. I could make a point of doing that regularly. I tend to just ride on a few different routes and no longer always appreciate the countryside I live in. When it’s cold and wet it’s easier to just put your head down and get on with it.

My two NSVs this week tunnel vision and negative to positive thoughts.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=0fKBhvDjuy0&t=366s
Sometimes I have tunnel vision where I can’t see beyond my own problems. Here’s a link to a short film shown at the Smithsonian museum. Powers of Ten starts at a picnic beside a lake in Chicago and goes out by powers of ten to the stars. I loved this film as a teen.
I'm working with the public during the pandemic. Some people get furious about ridiculous things -- including me. This week, when the public argues with me, I’ve pictured us as specks on the surface of the Earth, focused on ourselves like billions of others, while not that far away spin Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune, places just as real as the streets of Chicago in the film. Nature puts everything in perspective.
Negative to positive self-talk: I love this article from the BBC, Why self-compassion – not self-esteem – leads to success
https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20210111-why-self-compassion-not-self-esteem-leads-to-success
Like expanding my tunnel vision, choosing to be kind to myself changes my day. When I can’t find my car keys or my phone, or I put off exercise until it’s too late, I don’t need to call myself an idiot. I wouldn’t talk to a friend like that, or even a stranger. The article comes from a research study from a University in Texas, but it’s universal.

@Hollis100 I actually am starting to really enjoy the nighttime walks. I wear a reflective harness that I am really liking and have added an LED blinking armband. Most of the time, I can see without a flashlight, but I have learned that the town really needs to check the lightbulbs in their street lights. At this point though, I know where I am going to have trouble and know the bumps and such. Thanks also for sharing those links with us. I'm going to be jumping on the bike shortly. I think I will stream them then.1 -

Sounds really fun! I’m glad it helped! 😘
I also collect nature items (that are on the ground, and then at home...place them in an arrangement, usually on a solid background & photograph from above. Fun to see the color schemes change as the seasons do!2 -
3x’s yes! Workout with my crew and good on calories.3

NSV - my ability to walk! Pre knee injury, my Apple Watch would prompt me whenever I was out walking to record it as a workout. That has not happened for a long time (4 months) as I’ve not been able to get up enough pace to make my walks a workout - until this week! Keeps happening when I go for a walk and it’s a great tangible sign of improvement and makes me feel more me again. @lesdarts180 i know what you mean about putting your head down in the cold and wet, the weather in the uk is pretty rubbish right now - but I suppose it adds an extra element of the challenge of getting a good photo! Everyone in my house is crossing their fingers for snow tonight, which would make a very pretty picture.
