  • It must be difficult being on your own at this time of year.
We are all together in this virtual way.

I'm alone, too, but doing kind of the opposite: Indulging myself. After 5+ years in maintenance, I'm pretty confident I can accommodate an indulgent day or two, on the rare days. So, I'm making whatever sounds good to me, and eating it. Today, for Christmas Eve dinner, I made a multi-vegetable shepard's pie (I'm vegetarian) and had some cabernet sauvignon alongside. It was delicious. Tomorrow, I'm planning one of those puffy supposedly German oven pancakes, with fruit and yogurt on top. 😋

As a widowed-orphaned-childless-only-child, I'd usually spend holidays with my SIL/BIL, who kindly "kept me" after my husband died 22 years ago. This year, it isn't IMO prudent to cross the state to mix with other households (they're 80+, with health challenges). Given lemons, make lemonade: I'm making my best effort.

Tonight, I've been exchanging phone calls, social media updates and text messages with other friends/extended family (most of them also solo this year). Tomorrow, I have a Zoom meeting with a local "elder orphans" group I belong to, for a bit of social time in a day that many of us will be spending at home alone. It'll do fine.

Sending you wishes for a calm, peaceful, safe, healthy Christmas, @witkowra567, and hoping you'll find some enjoyment in it. 🤗
