50 and feeling frumpy

I have found a hugh correlation between how I eat and how I feel and look. Christmas day was an all-time low as I could only wear a baggy trousers and oversized polo shirt...am munching my way through a king size box of quality street as I write ✍ this...I am not looking to lose half my body weight but would be delighted to lose 30 pounds and more importantly, regain a sense of dignity and confidence...hopefully this app will give me the tools I need to start this journey...Liz

I have found that just doing things to take care of yourself and losing a little and knowing you are on a positive path can make a 180 degree change in how I feel about myself. Back in 2014-15, I lost 90 lbs, and although I was still well into the obese category, I started feeling so much better about myself after only losing 10, and also starting to get more active again. So much of this is mental.

I think Lemur's onto something here: That sense of mastery over our own course is a powerful piece of change, more central to self-perception in many cases than losing all the pounds. My sense of agency, for me, has more to do with my sense of dignity and confidence than whether I have a little extra around the waistline, personally. Self respect is related to firmly taking the reins, in other words.
But yeah, the weight loss and improved nutrition/fitness have benefits all on their own, too. 😉
Welcome to MFP, welcome to the group. Yup, MFP can be a great tool, and you can succeed with it. Wishing you great results!

56 and I too wore sweatpants at Christmas. I hurt my back 2 weeks ago and finally feeling better. Mentally I had to constantly tell myself to heal and give myself time. Im doing better and although 2 weeks off my plan, I will begin again with a positive attitude that I get from reading these posts!3

Yes I agree that these posts are helpful as we all seem to have some common issues2 -

Thank you! I think it is about positive thoughts around food and your own feeling of self-worth.3 -
While I was in the 200s I felt frumpy and gross. I avoided social events because I only had a few things that fit. Taking control of my health and fitness has definitely boosted my confidence. Being in the 180s feels amazing and I'm getting my mojo back. I have a ways to go but I will do it. You can do it too!!2

You said it... Dignity and confidence.
It's being our best self no matter our size. Wearing clothes that fit properly and make us feel good.
I am no fashionista by any means. I don't wear a lot of makeup.
However, I can remember certain pieces of clothing throughout my life that gave me confidence. No matter my wearing a size 13 or 26.
So often, I based my purchases on it fitting and being on sale. Instead of wearing something that made me feel like a rockstar. An old friend called it swagger.
Let's start today with a swagger.5
