Once again, our teammates mentioned SEVERAL terrific NSV's on our mid-month thread! If you haven't had a chance, please take a few minutes and read them on the thread for the 15th.
How has your mindset changed because of your new healthy(ier) lifestyle, and knowledge that you've gained in your journey?

I also want to say a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to @SummerSkier

Very well done! I dont wear my ring when I run. It sliped already few times at home. I tell my DH that he should buy another smaller ring to secure the wedding one
I have another NSV to add. I bought me 4 pairs of new pants. It was not so easy. The first 3 had to be sent back. Now I fit in EU size 36 (US 4) In all my life I never felt better10 -

Ohhh! Happy birthday @SummerSkier...What did Bandit get you this year?
Since I'm on MFP this morning this will be the first of two posts for today. This one is to answer @Mrs_Hoffer's great question. How has your mindset changed because of your new healthy(ier) lifestyle, and knowledge that you've gained in your journey?
For the past decade or so, I've prioritize my life's priorities as follows:
Faith
Family
Finances
Friends
Fitness
Just this morning, I realized that I've become more successfully disciplined in faith and fitness; the first and last priorities 🤔 And last weekend, I learned the term conscientiousness. Conscientiousness plays a role in the Big Five Personality Traits ("Greatist" article with a link to an online assessment) which can apply to all aspects of life.
So to answer the question, I'm going to use my newfound mindset of discipline to tackle my other three priorities with a conscientious vengeance. 🧠
Umm, and a plan.13 -

7.21 km run + 6.61 km walk 😊. And I got my 2nd jab today. 😉8 -

thank you @Mrs_Hoffer for the birthday wishes. And @Maltedtea Bandit has given me so much over the past NINE THOUSAND NINETY days since I bought him that I only want to give back to him.

Today's interesting question...
How has your mindset changed because of your new healthy(ier) lifestyle, and knowledge that you've gained in your journey?
I am no longer attached to the scale. It used to be that I never weighed myself when I was in a free for all because I just did not want to know. But it's been a year or more since I regularly weighed and the freedom is intoxicating. I still log my food and keep an eye on my clothes fit. And I will weigh at the Drs offices or once in a while if I think I need to cut for a week but really it's so nice not to have that # on a scale creating the mood for the entire day.9 -

How has your mindset changed because of your new healthy(ier) lifestyle, and knowledge that you've gained in your journey?
I don't really view what I'm doing right now as a "new healthy(ier) lifestyle" so much as I consider it a refinement (and even further development) of the good lifestyle habits I learned to develop previously. I had developed many of these habits a few years ago, I just stopped focusing on results and in turn wound up sliding many steps backwards by allowing myself to not keep the good habits regularly. I just got lazy at first, really, and then wound up depressed and uncaring enough to get back up off the couch, I guess.
This time seems to be particularly rewarding though and feels like something I *could* in theory just do forever. Part of that might be because I looked back over what worked previously, what didn't, and did a fair amount of research on proven methods prior to starting my diet and exercise changes back in March. Because of that I don't feel like my mindset has changed at all between then and now, instead it is the consistency with following that original plan and mindset which I feel has brought me to this point.
I don't know that I want to do everything 100% the same as I'm doing right now forever though (keto for example), and will work on additional refinements later when maintenance comes into the picture.
ETA - Now, I suppose I could look back and proffer up how my mindset changed previously when I first developed those habits I reference. My life did permanently change with those habits, or as I like to phrase it, I had to permanently change my life to make those "habits".
If I were to try and sum it up in a paragraph, it was that I had lost weight, got my diet under control, and had built up a solid base of running. It was taking that running to the point of training for and running 3 full marathons within a 30 day span that did it. The only way to get to the point where I could train for that, let alone actually execute it, required a "new lifestyle" that was ingrained. By the time I had done that, there was literally no going back. Even with nearly 2 years of having "given up" I was still eating healthy more than I wasn't. I was not going on huge binges or anything. But by allowing some amount of indiscretions, not tracking, etc., weight came back on. Especially with the drinking.9 -
Yes x3
Run for exercise7 -
Exercise:
I seriously considered a pass day today. I had a guest until 5pm, and felt tired and run down all day so definitely didn't want to do any exercise after he left. But...then I thought how it's only a 20 minute commitment and I didn't want to just give up on my streak. It was raining, but I decided I could at least walk twenty minutes, even if it wasn't my usual speed. I ended up going 2 miles/30 minutes. Slower than usual, but still not slow. I'm satisfied, and tomorrow is a new day.
Tracking:
Calories: Yes, but I am so hungry right now, which is unusual. I am going to go get a 100 cal. popcorn bag because the nagging feeling has persisted, but I will still be in range for the day.
I read all of the daily questions, think about them, and read responses, but since I am new I figure I should just observe this month.10 -
Happy birthday @SummerSkier! 🎉🎂
Pass day #3 today.
I’m under my maintenance number still, but over my calorie goal, and I did not get activity in. Three days of less than two hours of sleep a night is catching up with me. Sleep really is key in the land of staying on track calorie and exercise wise for me.11 -
Yes, yes, and yes

1/3 days used
I did spin today and had some good cardio numbers. I tracked and logged and stayed under.
My mindset has changed to where I find myself conscious of what I am placing in the weekly shopping cart. I spend some time reading labels and putting items back that have to high if a salt or carb count don’t get behind me in the grocery store!
I also feel more confident in trying new exercises that would make me pause before. I realize that my journey to be healthy will ebb and flow but that is part of life.

@bradkcrew Glad to have you with us but please join in the chats you don’t have to wait until you’ve been around awhile but glad you are to find the energy to exercise even when one really doesn’t feel like it sometimes that’s all it takes9

Walking with intention
I ran out of time to do much else. If I have had a change in mindset, it is to be more of a friend to myself and not get upset when I can not achieve everything I want to do.5 -
@bradkcrew I concur with @snowshoe072 there is no need to wait. I certainly understand wanting to familiarize oneself with a group or even the general values in listening than speaking. But this forum here is richer with all insights, in my opinion. Sometimes fresh eyes have the best insights!5

What has changed? I no longer stress about my weight, what I’m eating, how my clothes fit, how I want to lose x pounds before the summer/a wedding/a party, dieting, etc. I knew I focused on these things throughout life but didn’t know just how much. I feel free now. I know what I have to do and just do it. It is like brushing my teeth or tying my shoes. I don’t fixate on those things, I just brush my teeth and tie my shoes. I’m conscious of these things but I am not anxiously fixated.
@SummerSkier - Happy Birthday!
@bradkcrew - hi! Jump right in.

I feel the same way. I don't want to answer "No" for 20 mins exercise. When I am very busy, I have divided my workout into bits of 10 minutes. Sometime I arrange my activities to be like a workout. For example, do all my phone calls while moving around. Sometimes, Leslie Sansone Walk-at-home saves the day
Please jump in at any time. We are like a family here. You are safe.6 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Kitchen Closed? Yes
Going "nuts" with nuts today? No (14 days-free )
(I go "nuts" with nuts most times, trying to continue a good habit this month. Counting the number of "nuts" free days.) I am still learning a lot about myself in this area!
Lots of freggies today? Yes
Pass day 2/3 (this is for accountability to myself and my records).
How has your mindset changed because of your new healthy(ier) lifestyle, and knowledge that you've gained in your journey?
Yes, made a lot of discoveries on this journey.
The most important one for me is the fact that this is the all about "me" and nobody can do it for me.
It is cheaper for me to eat healthy than buy drugs (make the Pharmaceutical companies rich at my expense).
The discipline from my healthier life style has been extended to other areas of my life and those around me are also blessed by my life style.6 -
My habits have changed thanks to several years of UAC activities. I continue to be happily surprised that I have developed a healthy sensation of satiety. That sensation is a relatively new experience. It’s delightful to not want to over eat.
Today’s report:
More exercise than usual: active stretching; cardio strength and later in the day intentional walking
Calories: well under my limit
Tracking: good
@MaltedTea You are an inspiration to me! Thanks for sharing your commitment list7 -
August 17th:
✅ Tracked all my calories
Stayed under calorie goal
✅ Exercised more than 20 mins (20 mins on stationary bike)
8/17 days
9/3 pass days used
You know, I totally forgot about all the great discussions yesterday on trigger foods etc. and ate wayyyy too many Pringles. Only like 15 calories over for the day, but over is over.7 -
@snowshoe072 @victorious55 @WhatMeRunning @readyornot1234 Thanks everyone!
I have tried a lot of things over the decades, but never an accountability group. I have to admit that already I have exercised a few days this month that I probably would have skipped without this challenge. Some days it might not have been much, but at least I kept it going.10 -
