Pass. I didn't feel well today so. Didn't get much exercise in. Just my stepps.
Logged?-yes7 -
Okay, first timer here. Good luck everyone!!! Let's Go!
1. Exercise: Yes, went to Planet Fitness and did a Nike Running App Fartlek on the treadmill. It was tough.
2. Tracked Calories: Yes. I find the logging super annoying, but I did it.
3. Under Calories: Yes, way under as usual.
Goals:
1. Diet: Just continue pushing along with my diet. I am pretty satisfied with what I have been doing, and I hope the scale rewards me tomorrow. Last Monday was a little discouraging.
2. Running: Continue to push with my running using the Nike Running App guided runs. My goal is to end the month with a 4 mile run. I am going to attempt the distance for the first time on Tuesday, but don't think I am physically there yet, so I will accept some walking recovery along the distance.
3. Other exercise: Continue at Planet Fitness with my weight circuit 2-3 times per week. Continue 3x1 minutes daily planks. NEW: Be able to do 5 correct push ups by the end of the month...now to figure out how to get there.

Net carbs <25%? Yes. 11%
Protein >100g? Yes. 107g.
Yoga. Yes.
Kettlebell. Rest Day.
12k steps daily? (I'll report my total steps for the day before). Yesterday I had 11,828 steps.
For August, I'm going to keep track of my net carbs and protein as well. You can see by my stats above what parameters I'm shooting for. My exercise plan is to walk and do yoga daily, and then do the kettlebell workout on MWF. On my "rest" days (from kettlebell) I'll be doing planks, counter pushups, and core exercises for now. I'll take a real rest day on Sundays (except yoga and walking!)
I asked DH to please hide the zuchinni bread that he made earlier in the week. I just can't walk by it every time I walk into the kitchen and NOT want a piece!7 -
@clutterqueen Terrific job!
@stella7x7 I'm sorry that you weren't feeling very well today. I hope that you feel better SOON! 🤗
@bradkcrew Awesome first day! Fantastic "extra" goals too!5 -
Congrats to everyone for checking in during July!! I'm looking forward to incorporating more strength training in August. Yes, yes, yes.2

Thank you @Mrs_Hoffer! Meanwhile, I'm inspired by you all...
* Love the mindfulness approach @Geneveremfp. Are you using an app, podcast or something specific?
* @mshawski Please don't think I wasn't drooling over your spreadsheet the other day. I was trying to be chill about it but actually --> 🤩
* Happy, happy birthday @brisingr86 🥳
* Let's chase these abs under our sons' ridicule together @snowshoe072
* Welcome to the group @bradkcrew. My mother swears by the Nike Running app because she find the audio guides funny. Apparently, there's a quirky British guy as one of the options.
Last full day of my mom's visit saw a bunch of family members helping her older sister (my aunt) move items into basement storage. A good time was had by all 😌

@SModa61 Like you, today is a new day and we will start showing our house this week. This is also a week that includes a 3 day family reunion. Food is the center of the family get together. I look forward to staying within the boundaries for 2 of the 3 days. Saturday will be impossible to track.
As for today, it was a beautiful and unusually cool summer day.
Calories: below my limit
Exercise: active stretching for 21 minutes and more than 2.5 hours of active walking and carrying everything from 40 pound bags of salt to a bucket of water.
Tracking: good

Exercise: 35 minutes rowing, 55 minutes stretching and PT exercises
Tracking: yes
Calories: over
Taking a pass day as we held a picnic to celebrate my son's graduation from UMD.
Also, later this month we will be vacationing in HI so I anticipate more pass days and no winner's circle. However, I think that accountability is always important and I will continue to check in during the vacation.

Did I exercise 20 minutes or more? According to Runtastic - 88 minutes, 15.6 miles, on my bike this morning.
Did I track everything? I did, although dinner was an "eyeball" estimate and then guesswork out of the MFP database.
Did I stay within calorie goals? I am surprised. Of course, this took the exercise calories to make it work. And, well, since I was eating pasta and garlic bread, the carbs are through the ceiling, somewhere near the moon, but the company was good and, as expected, we spent quite a bit of time talking about family.
"Your children don't look anything like you!" said no one ever.
(Le sigh... I have a friend who is a plastic surgeon. I think I need to go talk to him about those suitcases under my eyes.) Oh, and for what it's worth, this picture really shows the difference in my face from a year ago and longer. At least, I can see it better than I have in other photos.
Although I will track these for my benefit, I'm not sure I'll share much. Maybe at the end of the month. That being said, my goals for the month (and ongoing) are:
1. Stairs to and from courtrooms unless I'm carrying or hauling a ton of exhibits.
2. Trying to keep my carbs to 20% or less.
3. Drink more water.
4. Try to either walk the dog on the Loop, or jog a lap around the parking lot at least 3 nights a week.
5. Each work day, at some point, just take a few minutes to breathe and try to relax my brain.
6. Oh yeah... freggies. I'll work on it.
Happy, happy birthday, @brisingr86!!!! Many more.
(I'm an August baby too... at the end of the month).7 -
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? yes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? yes
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? yes- Treadmill: 40 min / 2.46 mi

Passes used: 0/3
Apple rings closed: 1/31
Final results of July Goals:
1. Do NOT exceed 5 passes (I have five days of vacation) <-- Unfortunately I had 6 pass days
2. Lose enough weight to be <119 and stay there (today I was 120.3) <-- Sadly I gained weight most likely due to overindulgence during my vacation
3. Follow recomp routine without fail (except while on vacation) <-- yes
4. Close all three rings of Apple watch 31 of 31 times (this is the July Challenge the app gave me) <-- yes
5. Rest day calories: 1200 + active treadmill calories / WO day calories: 1300 + active treadmill calories <-- I was using 1300 and 1400 instead of 1200 and 1300 by mistake ... I never actually changed them as it turns out
Aug Goals:
1. Do NOT exceed 3 passes (I have a three day vacation planned)
2. Lose enough weight to be <120 and stay there (today I was 122.8)
3. Follow recomp routine without fail (except while on vacation)
4. Close all three rings of Apple watch 31 of 31 times (this is the August Challenge the app gave me)
5. Rest day calories: 1200 + active treadmill calories / WO day calories: 1300 + active treadmill calories
I've decided to use the same 30 day dumbbell routine exercises but structure it different. Site: https://www.livestrong.com/article/13727083-dumbbell-challenge
I'm combining legs/glutes to Sun/Wed and upper body to Mon/Thu. Tue & Sat will be proper rest days and Fri I'll add one of my DVD exercise routines. I have many of them and haven't used them in years. I've updated MFP with calorie limit by day. I upgraded to the pro version a couple of months ago specifically for this purpose.
I've also increased my move calories up by 10 and increased my exercise minutes up by 5 for the Apple Watch to make closing the rings slightly more challenging. I don't know why the watch isn't giving me something different. This is the fourth month in a row it is doing ring closing as my monthly challenge.
Also my partner and I agreed that we wouldn't do restaurants this month except during our vacation and possibly the last day of the month due to a particular situation.

Congrats to all who made the Winners' Circle and the Champions!
Happy Birthday @brisingr86!

Oh yes @MaltedTea and @Mshawski so i switch the bracelet to my other hand every time i complain. It gets me to be mindful and promotes healthy communication. I found i was complaining wayyyy too much but doing it more as a way to just make conversation or to bond with others. It kinda became like a bad habit i cldnt break. The average person complains 15_20 times a day. I was prob complaining even more than that lol and then negativity breeds more negativity. I got the concept from Will Bowen's 21 days without complaining on youtube.
@MaltedTea awesome results as always!!! Awww "drowning in love" too sweet!!! He he enjoy!
@brisingr86 happy birthday from all of us!! Hope u had a beautiful day!!!
@Mshawski ur post made me lol!! Dw we hve all been there!!! I hve no doubt that u will smash August!!
@twistedsassette good on u for still doing it even tho u wernt feeling it! Hope tomz is a better day.
@healthymumlife 2 out of 3 done. Off to a good start!!

Then around 3pm I looked at my phone and realized it was not July 31st. It was, in fact, August 1st. So… that’s a really disappointing start to me regaining my focus in August. Ugh.
Completely unintentional Pass Day #1 since I thought it was still July 🤦🏻♀️. I promise I’m actually smart, I just rarely seem like it. 🤦🏻♀️ So now I’m feeling like that person that keeps saying they’re going to start tomorrow and never does.
Goals for August:
- Winners Circle
- Reinstate 1 rest day per week (can be walking or gentle yoga)
- Keep fiber and protein intake up with sodium intake down
- KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS 😑
Thanks for the laugh. I thought I was off to a good start too. We ate out last night, I made good choices, (I thought), ran in the morning, ate light all day, was under calories. Woke up this morning and the first thing that popped into my head was “oh crap, I had a piece of cornbread that I didn’t count.” Went back to add it and now my diary looks like this:
So here I am, already with a pass day.
3 -
So July was an interesting month. I decided that for me the most important part of the UAC is my remaining accountable. I am aiming for the three foundational goal each day, but I am avoiding my all or nothing behavior that comes with trying to make the Winners Circle.
Anyhow, if you were around in July, you know I am a little loopy at the moment with preparing to sell home, move, MIL, aging parent with their aging house, plus my kids and 18 month old grandson. My "awesome" exercise has from planned/intentional, to monitoring my apple rings most days due to the cleaning & packing. I am OK with this and I look forward to the fall when hopefully this is more behind me and I can get back into my formal exercise. Hey, I did not start until last fall either, I'm still ahead of the game. I'm down over 30 lb since last fall. Over 48 down from my 2001 high weight, and July ended with me averaging about 2 lb lower than the proceeding 4 maintenance months. Not sure I will stay this low. I'm basically at what I got married at 21 in 1983 (turned 22 on the honeymoon :P ).
So August 1, apple rings closed, everything tracked, calories over by 20. Had chinese food. Had it all planned, and then "what the heck" kicked in. Making myself take the pass day since I do have a broad enough set of rules I have given myself that 20 over, is over.
On to August 2nd.5 -
@SModa61 your approach and efforts are truly admirable!
I certainly believe that keeping yourself held to account daily is infinitely more important than hitting any specific short term numbers. It's the journey, not the destination, and that daily account is how we navigate by whatever stars are visible to us in order to guide us there. When we go off course for any time, that regular accountability is what gets us back on track, and ultimately the only way to get there. Not to mention when we get there, it's not a port where you dock and get to just sit there, instead you're still afloat in the middle of the sea and can drift all around unless you continue to hold yourself to account daily and continue to stay on track. Forever.
Ok, didn't mean to drift the topic like that. Just impressed is all, and I get chatty and go on tangents and stuff!2 -
Congratulations to everyone in the Winners Circle! Great Job! Woohoo!
This month, I am determined to be accountable. My goals are to track every day, check in here every day, and exercise more than 30 minutes every day. I hope to also stay below my calorie limit, but my main goals are accountability and exercise as I get back into a routine.
Thank you to everyone who has checked on me and reached out! This group is a wonderful source of support!
August 1:
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. 3 hours of gardening (which I am counting), and a 30-minute walk.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.
Pass days used: 0.
Happy August, everyone!

@MaltedTea I'm trying out different podcasts this month to see if there are any that I particularly like.
Well done everyone. Lots of solid first days2 -
Healthymumlife wrote: »Can I ask if an hours yoga session counts as exercise? Thanks
@Healthymumlife the "rules" simply say:
"Be active every day for the entire month. Even if it's just cleaning your house for 20 minutes, be active...." and we usually leave it up to YOU to determine for yourself what you consider "active". For me, I'd say yes! In my mind yoga beats sitting on the sofa every day of the week! (Also, personally, I'm out of shape, and yoga is definitely "active" for me!) Lol. I hope this helps.2 -

@WhatMeRunning Your "drift" is very insightful! Your point about it not being just a "port that we get to dock and just sit there" really hit home with me! Thanks!2
