New Kid On The Block

Hi All,
I am 71 years old and live in Ripon, North Yorkshire, UK. I have struggled with my weight all my life and I have just started a Low Carb Diet, and I need help. At the moment I have a list of foods that I can eat, so I am making up my meals from that list. I really know nothing about a Low Carb Diet. I need to know how many Carbs I should be eating each day. Are there any FREE meal plans out there ? Why should I be eating more fat ? Do you still need to count calories. I pretty well need every kind of help and advice that there is out there. TIA

Welcome. I had a lot of questions at first, too. You probably want to read through the stickies at the top of the board to help you get started.

You want fat so you feel full, not too hungry. The carbs total depends on your goal. I am doing keto to control glucose. I have type 2 diabetes. I try to stay under 30 g but people vary. It can be rigid and if you can go higher you have more options. Yes calories still.matter, but you may not be as hungry so it can be easier. Yes there are meal plans out there.

I'm a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic (following a stroke back at the end of April). I'm 54 years old and I see a dietician per my doctor. hopefully I'll get some guidance. would love to be friends with you.

Yes, the Launchpad has lots of good tips. Other sites that I like are www.dietdoctor.com and Dr. Fung's youtube videos. Both have lots of free advice and recipes. Feel free to post any questions that you have here. And keep calm and keto on!
