I -Irish Moss "Chondrus crispus is classified as a red seaweed, and in fact it often is a deep red or dark purple color, though coloration can range from pale yellow to green purplish red to almost black. Chondrus has a short and often frilly or curly appearance somewhat resembling parsley. It likes to grow on rocks and boulders in the mid to low intertidal zone, where it can be exposed at especially low tides. Chondrus is usually most abundant 4-7 meters (13-23 feet) below mean low water but it also grows at shallower depths or as deep as 38 meters below mean low water, where it is always completely submerged. Chondrus can be found in thick beds, patches, or as solitary plants mixed in with other seaweed." (Google)
