Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes?
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?

a. Can you relate - start a “diet” with crazy rules “absolutely no treats”, “only eat carrots”, “drink this horrible tasting stuff every day”……
b. We make the rules or agree to the rules, then we break them, then we think we’ve failed, then we quit, then repeat.
c. We create our own drama when we get down on ourselves when we don’t stand up to the impossible rules we set for ourselves.
d. We tell ourselves “I’m a loser, I’m not disciplined, I’m not good at this, everyone else has willpower but me.”
e. The drama stops when you stop holding yourself to rigid rules. Make everything work for you, not against you. Learn how to support yourself by refusing to do the things that welcome this drama into your life that you don’t need.
f. Stop putting yourelf on restrictive diets just to open the door for failure one more time and instead focus on building healthy habits by adding in good things that will benefit you long term.
g. All of this is 100% in your control. But if you continue to do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten. Refuse to play this game based on others rules. Win the game based on your terms and on what you value and what you want for yourself.9 -
I’ll be on a week long bike trip starting Monday. I’ll have my phone and will check in when possible. Hopefully there was a nugget or two that was beneficial. Now back to our regular programming……….8

Excellent finisher! Loved this series. Hope you have a great trip @biketheworld
How's that saying go? Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're probably right!7 -

I want to give @biketheworld a very special THANK YOU for doing this series. I realize that we're all in different places in our journey, but I do think there is a lot of very good insight and information in these "nuggets"..... especially for new people, and for those of us who have found ourselves back here over and over again!!
Thanks again for all the thought and hard work you put into doing this series Diane. I appreciate you!
Have a great trip!! 😊8 -
I had a sneaky preview of todays theme and it made me laugh! Yes, diet drama it what some people seem to want. When I lost the 22.5 kg in 2018/19 lots of people asked me how I did it. When my answer was simply Eat Less Move More they were puzzled and disbelieving. It couldn’t be that simple.
Guess what folks – it is that simple. No drama, no restrictions, no requests for special food when I’m with friends, no fussing, just sensible choices, watch the portion sizes and (providing you are physically able to) getting more movement and exercise in your daily routines.
Thanks again @biketheworld for these topics.9 -

My only drama is when eating out trying to find something that the restaurant can adapt to my food allergies. Even then I carry Benadryl and my inhaler. This is the only fear I have when it comes to my diet. I even carry my own food to amusement parks. They don't have the ability to accommodate my needs. My drama is alleviated by my doing this. I have had horrible experiences when I did not take my cooler. At family get togethers I will make a dish I can have so I can at least that one thing. I do things like this so I can enjoy and relax. My diet rules are not for weight loss they are rules for my health. I believe there is a big difference. If I cheat and eat things on my list of don'ts I can get very ill which makes it easier to say no to. However when I have not had my cooler I have gotten so hangry that I would have to either claim fruit and veggie trays as mine or leave. With my family fruit and veggie trays are not usually a thing on the table. That is more of a church gathering thing. So my cooler goes everywhere. I don't get stressed and hopefully the caterer or host doesn't get offended. Once the caterer for my son's wedding heard what my allergies were she was grateful I had made my own dinner plate. She just heated and transferred it to the china for the reception. My son even had special cupcakes made for me in substitute for the cake. Sorry this has gotten long but I know it's hard for most to not think I am creating drama when I just want to be able to eat and breathe at the same time. Goodness I wish there were some of my family on here so they could read this.13

As far as diet drama. I don't think until I joined MFP in 2011 that I really had any comprehension of counting calories correctly. So a lot of the ways I tried to lose weight were ineffective and ultimately not good long term successes. The less painful you make it, the more likely you are to stick with it - whether losing or maintaining.
@biketheworld thanks for sharing these and have a wonderful bike holiday!5 -
Exercise yes, walking, over 14,000 steps so far.
Tracked yes, with estimates as I'm away from home again.

I'm all out of pass days. Today I just seemed to be in the wrong mood - and now reading today's nuggets I'm seeing a LOT of myself in there. Today i was definitely telling myself i'm not disciplined. I'm feeling a bit rubbish this evening because I had a bit too much sugar today. Monday is my day off work and I always want it to be wonderful but I didn't make enough time for myself today. Baked a birthday cake for a good friend who is recovering from covid and I think I maybe need to stop thinking of myself as the baker. As soon as I bake, I'm back in bad habits, plus I worked the whole day around it and by the time I had to take my kids to football in the evening, I had left no time for a swim. My friend did love the cake (and has frozen a slice for when her sense of taste is back!!)
So - tomorrow I'm working but my first task of the day will be to write my to do list and try and get out of the drifting along mindset I've had for a couple of days now. AND I'm going to try and find some time to get out for a swim!!11 -

1 mile walk, 3 mile run.
Pass day #1. We had a mommy and kiddo day and went out to lunch. I did well with choices and was within budget but I used enough of my daily budget on lunch that I couldn’t compensate for the Nutella run in at 3:00 😬. Oh well. At worst it’s a maintain day.8 -

Exercise today was a strength routine (Upper Body A: DB Bench Press, Banded Lat Pull-Down, Banded Tricep Extension, DB Wrist Curls).
Trying to avoid any drama about not getting outside and walking.🤪6 -
It has taken me some time to realize that my yo yo’ing was caused by restricting calories to 1200 or less, eliminating food groups, exercising without enough fuel, etc. I couldn’t do it for long (it was miserable) and after I lost my “number” I would start eating without restriction and gain it all back. It took me some time to figure out what works for me, what I can make as a lifestyle and not a short term lose as fast as I can diet, and I have been doing just that for a few years now. I consistently lose but I’m okay with a 1/2 pound to a pound a month.

I really like @readyornot1234 's approach mentioned above. Thanks for sharing. That's the approach that I want to take.
And yes!!! Happy Thanksgiving Day to my Canadian friends!!8 -
The biggest diet drama I see is
1. Set totally unreasonable goals
2. Get really excited as water weight drops
3. Get totally discouraged at “plateau” when really the average of the month is great
4. Giving up
5. Gain the weight &more back
Repeat
So I set “wimpy goals.” Everyone on MFP was losing more & faster than I was. I just kept plugging away slowly - mostly because I hate being hungry.
I re-framed plateaus as “maintenance practice”
I never gave up.
Break the chain. Do something different than you did the last time it didn’t work put.
Hugs,
🌸Maddie
PS the other dieting drama I see a lot is “I just want to lose 5 more pounds.” I did it for quite awhile. I decided to work on loving how I look at maintenance & see if I feel I need to be thinner once maintaining this range is easier. It’s a balance. But I think my “wanna lose 5 more lbs”-itis was me chasing some sort of perfection. Had to let that go!11 -
I really enjoyed the series, thank you @biketheworld for the time and effort you put into it. I hope you enjoy your trip.
Today this caught my attention: "All of this is 100% in your control. But if you continue to do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten. Refuse to play this game based on other's rules. Win the game based on your terms and on what you value and what you want for yourself."

Yes x3! Midnight treadmill run on my night shift, trying out intermittent fasting to see how that goes. Personally I have fun trying different diets and things, but I think it's because I always base it around CICO so all it does it make new rules to follow for a little bit Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians of the group!6

I discovered today that I forgot to add a cup fattoush salad on Sunday. I thought I could add it to today from the previous day only to discover it wasn’t there to add! Adding it would cause me to be over (-52 cals) so I’ll give myself a pass for 10/10. It sucks that I thought it was in the diary and I know if I would’ve made a different choice or ie (not eat another calorie dense gluten free, vegan no bake bar) or exercised more, I would’ve had plenty of room for it. Gotta learn how to rest, drink water, acknowledge cravings and work through stressful feelings. 🤔 Hopefully this reflection doesn’t equate to creating drama filled rules 😂🤦🏾♀️

Have a great trip @biketheworld and thanks for the series.
The dieting world is full of drama. We're all trying to hone it in for ourselves and do what works. My mind can create a ton of drama if I let it. Will continue fighting to avoid that!5 -
Well, with the nugget series complete I have concluded that the half size author and I simply aren't compatible. None of it resonated with me, including the latest. I am very successful with rigid rules and plans. When things are loosey-goosey I start to unravel. Anyway, I respect everyone's journey and viewpoints and as @biketheworld concluded: "Refuse to play this game based on others rules. Win the game based on your terms and on what you value and what you want for yourself."4
