HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Hey Everyone,
Life has been busy so I don't get to post socially as often as I like.
I have managed to get all of my weigh ins posted this month so that is a plus.
I did have a loss this week (which I am very happy about); so that's two weeks in a row.
However, I am frustrated that I have spent WAY too much time messing around in this weight decade (up-down-up-down). Trying to keep my weekend in check...that is where I have the most room for improvement.
Be well and have a great week everyone!

Hi everyone! Let’s introduce ourselves to get to know each other a little
I’m 29 and live in Finland with my husband. I’m currently not participating in weekly weigh-ins as I’m very pregnant and expecting our first child at the end of this month. So, I guess you could say I’m not weighing in but still have a huge weight loss goal for this month - I just read the average weight loss during childbirth is 13lbs. I’m also extremely bloated (to the point where my doctor thinks I might be developing preclampsia), so getting rid of this fluid retention postpartum should make me feel a lot lighter as well. The baby is considered full term tomorrow, so I’m ready for her to come out any time. Sooner rather than later.
I’ve been on maternity leave for 2 weeks now and plan on staying home for roughly a year, with a little bit of work sprinkled here and there. My job is on the executive level of a small-ish IT company, so it’s not realistic to stay 100% out or go back to work without any easing in or participating in planning for the time I do return. Still, I’m turning 30 in November and this is the first time since middle school I haven’t been working, studying, or both, full time. I plan on spending my year home focusing on not only my baby and family, but also myself and finding my own ways and rhythm in life instead of doing what everyone else expects me to do.
I did some math last night, and while I won’t set any concrete weight loss goals until I get medical clearance postpartum, it looks like I could realistically lose about 75lbs during my maternity leave and go back to work that much lighter. That already includes the baby and other childbirth stuff, but still. Sounds like a nice big change to achieve.
I’d love to hear about everyone else and your goals for October and also the rest of the year!7 -
I am Beka, your Team Captain along with @TheMrWobbly.
I am 45, married, mom of 2 daughters, Mimi of one amazing grandson, and human mom to 3 fur babies. I live in the beautiful mountains of Northern Georgia.
I started my journey 3 years ago at 242 lbs, lost down to 174 (-68 lbs) and maintained almost 9 months before gaining back to 232. It is only failure if you quit... right???
For my second time around, I am currently down about 55 lbs from my highest...
I took off a several weeks of logging to help get my head out of my @$$ and regain control of my drinking. I was happy to see that I actually lost a pound for the month!!!!!!

Hi my name is Julie and I live in eastern Pennsylvania. I am 53 and 5’6’. I have 2 kids in their early 20’s who still live with me.
I lost 50 lbs using MFP a few years ago, but life happened and I gained 70 lbs back. I started this time in January of 2021 at 257.8 lbs and have lost 41 lbs so far.
I seem to be on track to reach Onederland by the end of the year. But I don’t want to put that pressure on myself since the end of the year is hard with the holidays. But I kept myself in check a few years ago over the holidays so I know it’s possible!
My goals for October are the same: log my food and try to stay under my calories; try to get at least 8,000 steps daily; drink at least 80 oz. of water daily; and continue to gradually increase my exercise. I wish everyone a fabulous month! 🎃3 -

I can't believe it's October already!
My name is Jennifer and I live in Colorado. I'm an artist. I've been in the 250-260 range for probably 15-20 years. I did lose about 40 pounds six years ago but crept right back up. In April, I went for my physical and my doctor suggested weight loss surgery. I love my doctor. He's direct and I needed the tough love. For me, weight loss surgery was not an option. Regardless of which route we take, we still need to have the focus and discipline to limit our eating and to exercise more. So I returned to MFP, started eating based on State of Slim and rejoined Orange Theory Fitness. Now, I'm swimming twice a week, hiking once a week and going to OTF once or twice a week. While State of Slim focus' on portion sizes, I've moved to tracking calories. That is more specific and provides more accountability for me.
Progress:
April weight (at doctor's office) - 264.1#
MFP starting weight June 3rd - 261#
Current weight - 223.4#
2021 goal - near or under 200#
One of the biggest differences for me has been being active on MFP. I love the challenges that have helped me stay on track and even more, the encouragement, wisdom and just all around great advice from people in the community, especially those who have lost their weight and have maintained for years. They are a wealth of knowledge and actually have me believing I can do this. My goal is to become one of those cheerleaders when I get down to maintenance. I do blog twice a month on MFP if you'd like to follow the journey. https://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/coblujay
I can't wait to see my doctor next April. All he knows is I told him I'd start working on it.

Oh my, I can't believe I won 1st over all. Thanks for the congratulations! I just really want to see the back of this extra weight, extra badly!!! And congratulations team for finishing in second place!3 -
It’s really fantastic that the Shrinking Assets team has consistently made it to the monthly leaders’ board, especially since we have (slightly) fewer members than the other teams. I think the Downsizers have 33 active members and we have 24, while the others are all close in numbers at 25 or 26, so whatever happens with our group is slightly amplified. Great work, everyone, and well done as always @chublet25 — the top leader! 🎉
Everyone in the F2F full group is super supportive and I enjoy meeting new people during the weekly or monthly challenges. So, of course, I’m happy for all the ‘loser’ leaders. It’s still nice to see ‘our’ group in the standings! 🤩2 -
@cobluejay - Congratulations on selling out your art work within 24 hours! That’s amazing!! 🎉👩🎨🎉 Thanks for sharing your blog. It’s interesting to hear about your progress and all you are learning!2

Too Long/Didn’t Read (TL/DR) Version:
I’m finding success through the F2F group. I’m able to appreciate my better health and live a fuller and more meaningful life!
Introductions
My name is Patrice and I live in the U.S.A., just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, in Alexandria, Virginia. Originally, I’m from Boston, MA, and I still feel as though both places are ‘home’ even though I’ve lived here for over 25 years. I love being near the ocean but, since I only get there a few times a year, I’ve been spending lots of time on the river. Rowing is my main hobby but I’m interested in many other activities — A Jack of all trades and master of none, as the expression goes. It works for me! If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that perfection is over-rated — and elusive 🙃!
Here are my stats:
Female, Age 55
Height: 5’4”
Current Weight (CW): 124
Starting Weight (SW):168
Goal Weight (GW): 125
October Goal: Maintain weight at 125-130 while focusing on better nutrition and body recomposition to build muscle
I’m married with two young adult children in college (ages 21 and 19, soon-to-be 20 in November). One goes to school in Boston and the other is in South Carolina so they live about an 8-hour drive in either direction from us, right now. Our Boston Terrier dog is 10 but very active and young at heart. He loves a good nap, too, so he strikes the perfect balance. At work, I help groups improve health and education systems, by working in partnership with the people most affected by the change — the intended beneficiaries of the services. People want to be part of solving their own problems. So, we bring the decision-makers, practitioners, families, and individuals with health or learning difficulties together to identify problems, agree on solutions, and take collective action to make a difference.
I joined the F2F group in June - at 135 pounds - to gain some extra support and motivation at a time when my rate of loss was very slow. I knew I wasn’t ‘stalling’ since the trend continued downward, but it helps to be part of a group. It challenges me and offers a place to reflect on what’s working (and not working). I’ve changed my habits for the better but I’ll need practice to maintain them for a lifetime.
Thanks to all the Shrinking Assets members inspiring me to improve every day! I appreciate you. Best wishes!4 -
Hello again Shrinking Assets! I joined the group in September, had a few bumps but was trending in the right direction.
I'll log my first official weigh in tomorrow, as I weigh in on Mondays.
Congrats to SA teammates and winners last month. Great to be back for October.4 -
Good morning Team Shrinking Assets! This week we aren't doing a weekly challenge because we would like for you to give our
STOP EATING CRAP OCTOBER CHALLENGE a chance. If you can do the whole month that would be awesome! But if you only do one week, that will still give you some real benefits that will help you with your health and weight loss goals. So come on over and join us!

I have a question for those of you, such as Patrice, who are at their goal weight, or of others who are close. I would ask it in another forum, but have had more than one person be really rude to me elsewhere, so I am not venturing out there ever again!
Anyway, here's my question: According to online calculators, I figure I am about 20 pounds from my ideal weight, but I honestly think that I must be a lot further than 20 pounds from what I should weigh. That loose skin is not just loose skin, if you catch my drift. Skin alone just isn't that thick! I see I still haven't got to my question. Sorry. When y'all had only 20 pounds to go, did it FEEL and LOOK as though you had only 20 pounds to go? Is there suddenly going to be some miraculous transformation and one day I will wake up and say "holy crap, I made it, I'm slim"? I've googled pictures of people who are 20 pounds overweight and I am sure that I am much fatter.
Or are we all (well maybe not all of us, lucky you, but possibly me) just overly critical of how we look? I'll be 66 on Thursday. I am going to have loose skin, esp as I lost the weight pretty fast (relatively speaking). As a vegan, I did not take collagen but I ate fields of vegetables and trees of fruit. Cosmetic surgery is completely out of the question, as I'd honestly rather do any of 100 different things with the money!
Was I just being unrealistic in thinking that I'd look great when I reached my destination weight? Is this the ultimate cosmic joke? Oh don't be thinking that I have grocery bags of skin flapping around because I don't. The skin on my upper arms is a tad ropey and I won't be going sleeveless. My neck has looked better. And I still have the spare tire, but it's not nearly as big as it used to be (the Pillsbury dough boy would still find me as sexy as a dinner roll though)
Sorry, tough question! But if anybody has an answer, I'd love to hear it! Were you happy with what you saw when you reached your goal weight?
I will keep at it and have a critical appraisal when I hit my goal. Maybe pictures. I am not a person to take selfies! I will most likely take 20 selfies and reject them all...don't worry, nothing would be more revealing than me in a t-shirt and running tights, front view, haha!2 -
@chublet25 - I am relatively new to the group and only recently achieved my goal weight; so, I’ll do my best to answer your question, with the caveat that others will likely have better insights and recommendations for you. One group that I’d suggest you check in with is the GOAL ZONE group of F2F members who have been maintaining their goal weight for more time than I have.
Online Calculator for Gauging Ideal Weight
Currently, I weigh just under 125 pounds and I consider that about my ideal weight. The BMI calculator says that 145 is the highest weight for a ‘normal’ BMI at my height — about 5 feet, 4 inches. I started at 168 pounds and my most rewarding milestone was getting to 145 pounds, which helped me feel as though I was getting healthy. Even though I’ve never had high cholesterol or high blood pressure, I worried that I might develop higher risk if I stayed overweight as I aged. I was very happy with my progress - and it was motivating - BUT, I was still not completely satisfied with how I looked. This is where I think the topic becomes trickier because we are moving from a conversation about health & weight versus weight & body image. When y'all had only 20 pounds to go, did it FEEL and LOOK as though you had only 20 pounds to go?
Personally, at 145 pounds - or 20 pounds left to reach my goal weight - I was starting to feel better because I could stand longer while cooking, for example, and I fit into some clothes that had felt tight previously - but I knew I could look better. This is a point that feels highly subjective because 125-135 was a much more natural weight for me throughout my life. We all have different cultural, physiological, and psychological influences that shape our body images and identities. I could add a lot of personal information here but the main point is that I was always active and didn’t have to worry too much about the nutrition side of the equation — until I did! Eventual, my weight crept up slowly over the years until the pandemic caused me to step back and assess my health. Were you happy with what you saw when you reached your goal weight?
At about 135 pounds, I think I was generally happy with what I saw in the mirror, except for the extra skin under my arms and the way my loose skin hung down when I was in the plank position. I felt I could live comfortably at 135 pounds, which was 10 pounds over my target. Now that I’m at my goal weight, I’m much happier with the muscle definition that is starting to show up. I have better shape to my arms, legs and abdomen. With that said, I’m always impressed by people who are confident in their body at higher weights. I feel more confident in my own skin these days - and feel great in my clothes - but I’ll always admire the women in Hawaii who rock a bikini at any weight because of the energy and life they exude.
Other People Have Noticed the Last 10 Pounds
People didn’t comment much on my weight loss when I reached the ‘normal’ BMI because I had always been somewhat fit, even when overweight. So, while I was thrilled with that particular milestone from a medical standpoint, my shape wasn’t much different … though it was smaller than before. Now, my rowing friends and former colleagues have made comments that they almost didn’t recognize me because I look much fitter. I still have some loose skin in the plank position, but I’ve heard it can take up to two years to tighten, so I’m interested to see what happens. When I was younger, my bellybutton was tight and vertical - and now there is a little flap and it’s horizontal - but nobody would know the difference but me. So, I’m happy with the overall changes I see.
Although in some ways, I think my face seems a bit older looking (especially since I spend a lot of time outdoors), it still looks better to me than the slightly bloated image on my drivers license. I’m 55 and much of the damage was done in my younger days enjoying days at the beach in Boston. I’m trying to be diligent about sunscreen - and I always wear a hat - but I still struggle to remember my moisturizer. Damn! There are so many essential habits to build!!
I feel as though I’ll always be ‘a work in progress’ but I’ve learned not to let perfect get in the way of good enough. I’m not a selfie person either, and have only taken a few in my life. One of them is my profile picture, taken in May, when I was about 150 pounds and just above the normal BMI range. I took another one when I reached my goal weight so it’s posted in the ‘friends’ section. I think we are already connected as friends but just let me know if you want me to add it here. I hope I answered your question in this long-winded response. My apologies for the length. I’ll look forward to reading other responses and wish you the best. You are doing great!! 🙌 🤩 🙌5 -

Hello everyone
Thank you for having me in the group
I'm 50 and live in UK. I joined F2F early in the year but dropped out due to issues in personal and work life.
I eat relatively healthy but have problem with the amount of food I eat! Currently I'm on blood pressure medication and want to lose weight and get healthy so I can come off the meds.

Wednesday weigh-in
PW: 223.6
CW: 223.2
I just finished a seven day maintenance week. I'd set my goal from losing 2 pounds a week to a half pound a week. And...I lost .4 pounds. Pretty close. My calories went from 1200 per day to 1740. My exercise plan remained on track and I still logged every day. It was nice to have those extra calories and I didn't stress so much about staying under, like I do at the lower goal. I think the biggest thing I learned is that I can do maintenance...at least for a week. I can see how life gets busy and my mind moves away from being so strict tracking. That's when I'll be in the danger zone long term. It was a good experiment but I'm really happy to be back at it. I'm hoping to be at or near 200 pounds by the beginning of 2022. Onward and downward!
