LOL! 'the bad side of the *kitten*' LOL!
I guess myfitnesspal thinks that I used a bad word. D-y-k-e is what that should have said. You know, the thing that holds back water. yeesh.0 -
Hi Everyone... not up for much posting today but thank you so much for the sympathies.
I am really struggling with this but did get to the office today and made it through the whole day. Monday is funeral service (just family and close friends) then gathering for food and drinks and reminiscing.
Off for now.

Sending loads of hugs and love, Mihani.0

Thanks, Nance
I am doing 2 days of juice today and tomorrow. One more juice left to go today. I admit I was indulging in some wine on Monday and Tuesday so I thought I'd better nip it in the bud! A day or two of juice really seems to snap me back to good habits.

Good Morning sweet peas...you're both going through so much...loads of hugs from the Valley of the Sun to keep you warm.
Funny you are juicing, Mihani. My juice company is having a 30 % off with free shipping ... usually is a flat rate of $10. Now they are local, so you order by 1pm receive by 9pm...cold with ice packs!
Anyway, I ordered 5 days...that's 30 juices for $108 total. Now that includes 5 bottle of their cashew milk something or other...very rich and packed with protein to be used if you need a sip of something more substantial to get you through OR you are doing heavy workouts.
I am not solely juicing BEFORE TG...but using them along with lots of WFPB eating. Today, we are having our work TG...so I will NOT be joining...nothing to eat...but I am taking juices and sheet pan roasted veggies:
sweet potatoes
russet
cauliflower
broc
radishes
red onions
green apples
carrots
The ONIONS are the star IMO! And the apples...take a bite of those along with a potato and yum!
Costco screwed up again. NOW they are delivering SUNDAY between 7 and 9 am MAYBE...they will call Saturday night to confirm.
OH OH OH ...the worst news is...we do have coyotes, but I rarely see TWO of them wander in my area...right where I play with Lulu. We were in the living room with the screen door open...he looked right inside at me...I yelled at that little monster to get out.
I read that a soda can filled with pennies will help ward them off. I did have a Lacroix can...so I filled that. Gosh darn it...just when I have everything finally set up for her and now these guys. Just STAY THE HECK awAY.
And to top it off, we have bunnies that visit our backyard...so adorable. NOW, I am worried for them.
I have been here four years and I have probably seen a total of 12 coyotes wander through the neighborhood...never two in my yard in one day, that's for sure.
Carla, a review of the holiday roasts came on my feed... it was when I was using google...anyway, they ranked GARDEIN HOLIDAY ROAST NUMBER ONE! Next year, I will get two...so I have something for other holiday gatherings.
Not sure if I will use this or...VEGAN BLUEBERRY posted an easy recipe for https://www.veganblueberry.com/vegan-manicotti/ I might try that...it seems it would really travel well and stay on in my Hot Logic.
Ok, guys, I rambled enough. UP early and slept ok...and I am just so happy with my new schedule...it just gave me a new zest for life.

Correction on my juice order from Squeezed. com Five juices plus one cashew milk ...six bottles total a day...for five days. 30 juices...came to $108.0

Hello, quick check in. Totally safe and dry, no issues with flooding here, but a real disaster in this area in general, especially just north of the border with farmer's cattle dying off and flooded homes etc. Very sad. My brother's home is dry, but he has a 2 hour detour each way now to get to his business (which is screaming busy between the holidays and panic hoarder buying).
I'm struggling with mood and food. Tried to get my covid booster shot yesterday, but have to wait 2 more months because I got the Moderna shot.
Sunny day out here at least, and I got in a walk.
Take care gals, might not post for a while, don't want to be a bummer!
*hugs*1 -
Special thoughts and prayers for the people facing such a disaster, Carla...and for you too! Prayers for the animals...so sorry to hear that are suffering.0
-
So sorry, Carla. *hugs* It's hard to keep things going sometimes totally get it. Hope your brother is coping well with this turn of events, and that things improve soon. I had mentioned to a friend that it's like the 7 plagues the past couple years. Hope you will continue to check in, but we're here for you whether you do or not.
Yikes, coyotes are no joke, Nance. I keep thinking I want to try a longer term juice fast, maybe 4 or 5 days, but I'm not ready yet. I find one or two days to be really easy (usually... will discuss that next) but the one time I did 3 days I really wanted some food, and I actually did have a small salad that night and it tasted wonderful! Never thought of adding apples to roasted veggies and definitely going to try that. Sounds delicious.
Yesterday all juice went fine. Today not so much. I couldn't sleep last night at all and finally just got up at 2:30 a.m. Had some tea and ezekiel toast with almond butter and figured I'd do juice the rest of the day, which I kind of did, but also fell into the pretzels at the office. I am just out of sorts and grieving. I went to the office extra early and now I'm so tired. I'm sure I will be in bed super early tonight. I think after the funeral on Monday that I will get back to "normal" and that's in quotes because I'm not sure I'm ever normal. LOL

Good Morning sweet peas...
Thinking of you both and sending love. Carla, I echo what Mihani said, hopefully you will check in...you are not a "downer" by any means. We all need a safe place to express what's going on ... the bad stuff especially needs support...so please keep that in mind. But we will be here waiting.
Yesterday was dealership TG catered event. I just stayed at my desk...being the receptionist, it was an easy out. There was nothing plant based except a bagged, and a very sad one at that, bagged salad. I brought my own dressing in case they had a nice salad. This was NOT a nice salad. LOL
Using my juices to mix in during the day...so trying to eat light. Goal is 10 pounds off by January 17. Definitely doable...just have to DO IT. My thinking is the less weight on this body the easier my recovery.
Hopefully Costco comes through tomorrow. Tonight, they are supposed to call with a TIME of delivery. Fingers crossed.
I am sick about the coyotes coming around. Darn it anyway. Still not sure what I am going to do. Poor Little Lulu...she is the big loser in all of this. I'll keep you posted.
Today...
coffee
Gardein chic'n tenders
squeezed juice (I did order the ones with less fruit...something new for me...and like them better)
roasted veggies
juice
and more juice
Later my friends.0 -
Is Costco for your patio furniture delivery, Nance?
Went to the office for about 5 hours. Home and have an hour to kill with feeding the dog and general puttering around, then off to dinner with friends at their house. Very informal we just hang around eating, drinking, chatting. No sit down dinner.
I'll go back to the office tomorrow, then off Monday for funeral. I am going to try to get my grocery shopping for my contributions to Thanksgiving dinner done Monday morning since I'm off anyway, but if I don't feel up to it I will leave early a little early on Tuesday to do it. I have a couple things in mind. Probably something with butternut squash. I was thinking about the soup that Carla shared not long ago as I liked that a lot, but I think more of a side dish recipe would be better for Thursday. I'd like to make the soup anyway though, and I can keep it all for ME!
Need to try to get my laundry done tomorrow morning before I head to the office. I slept in until almost 7:00 this morning so I didn't have time.

Mihani...the Costco Order Delivery situation has turned into a fiasco.
First delivery scheduled: 11/10
2nd: 11/18
3rd: 11/21
NOW, they are saying tomorrow...but I work.
I did speak to a live resolution team person after they cancelled the 11/18 delivery (who obviously screwed up as well)…she said they had put the furniture in the wrong place but now they know where it is and it will be delivered today...which I thought was odd, but I said OK...I would NEVER have agreed to Monday, since I work. Ridiculous.
Good luck with the soup...I am sure that will be a winner. Is the Thanksgiving at your family's? Does everyone eat plant based? Sounds like yes?
I still am on the fence with what to do.
My left knee is out of control...I have to bring my ice bags to work...I have these really loose pants (QVC Susan Graver)...and I can get that ice bag on while I sit at my desk...so I don't know about standing to cook anything involved...but this recipe https://www.veganblueberry.com/vegan-manicotti/ looks kinda easy. I am NOT A GOOD COOK.
...but I really want to make that manicotti dish. I am going to get to Sprouts in a few...pick up all the ingredients...and see if I can't do it Wednesday. If not, I will make the Gardein Roast.
Hoping this made sense.
Back later. Take care the two of you...hugs all around.

Deliveries seem to be screwed up everywhere these days, Nance. The manicotti looks good. I'm not making the soup for Thanksgiving but making another batch for myself. It has such great flavors and is very comforting with the colder days.
My family is not plant based at all, but they are very accommodating. They leave a little of the potatoes separate for me to mash up with plant based milk, and make one of the dressings vegan. To be honest I never thought the turkey was the star of Thanksgiving dinner even way back when I still ate meat... give me the starchy goodness!
I'm not going to the office. I woke up with a massive headache so I went back to bed for a while. If it was a weekday I would have toughed it out but it's harder to do that on a weekend when technically I am not supposed to be in the office. Once I get feeling better I'll do some work here and then run down to the office for a few hours in the morning before I go to the funeral.0 -
Sorry you have a big headache, Mihani. Hope you can shake it. Am thinking of you and will be tomorrow as well.
Hope the icing helps your knee, Nance. Take a day at home if you need it. I really like the Gardein roast so it is a good option for you if you aren't feeling up to cooking. It comes with gravy that you can use over potatoes or yams.
Joe's computer is failing so we missed an email letting us know they are coming to dig the trench today to put in the water line. We have huge fallen branches down from the storm that we need to cut up to move out of their way and a gate that was fenced closed to keep out the deer that we need to re-open before they get here.
Thanks for the hugs and support, gals!1 -
Just cuz this is so stinkin crazy...called costco this morning...got a very nice lady, Ruby. She said, Tuesday 9 am ish. If you do not get a call Monday night, call her first thing Tuesday morning and she will personally go out to the truck and make sure it gets loaded! LOL
Hope the headache eases up, Mihani.
Good luck with the trench , Carla.
Icing most of the day and naps.
Now, I am thinking of the roast.! I just think the crispy coating will get soggy by the time I get it to their house. Oh well. It will taste good.
I also bought stuff to make spaghetti and a salad...that would really be easy. I use a jarred sauce ...add...GArdein MEAT CRUMBLES...onions and mushrooms...and call it a day. Then a romaine easy salad.
At this point, I am just wanting to have an easy, peaceful visit. My knee pain is kinda taking the joy out of everything. But when it stops, it's so nice.
It might be my tennnies...I use Wide Skechers D'lights. Just wearing down a tiny bit, I feel it in my knee. I had ordered two new pairs and right now, I sprayed stretcher stuff in them and put this wooden thing in so they will feel good on my feet.
I'll tell you, between all the new tennies and the CBD pain cream bills...once I get my knew knee, I'm gonna be rich! LOL
Later, dollies!0 -

Hi all... went to the office for about 2 and a half hours this morning. Ran to grocery for stuff to make my Thanksgiving side and the soup. Realized I never ate breakfast so I'm eating a bite (toast with almond butter) and can relax for half hour then head to the cemetery and the gathering after the service. They are doing a very simple graveside service just family and close friends.
Need to get back in the groove after today. I've been struggling with emotions and focus the past week. I think I can begin to heal after today.
You have your work cut out for you this morning, Carla! Were you able to get it all done?
Hope your knee is feeling better, Nance. You have me thinking next year I should try that Gardein roast.
Not sure what food will be today. Whatever they have at the gathering that is vegan, and there will be wine. If I'm hungry later on after I'm home I will have a salad.
Oh, last week the gal at the juice place told me they are going to be running some specials after Thanksgiving and through December. She said to take a look at their social media or give her a call next week. I would like to try doing a 3 or 4 day juice fast sometime in December so I was happy to hear there will be discounts.

Just having coffee, icing my knee...putting things away ...cleaning gal comes tomorrow...not cleaning before she gets here, but PUTTING THINGS AWAY...actually, it's not that bad.
Costco is supposed to deliver today between 8 and 10
juices
just egg and corn salsa
roasted veggies
pear
hoping everyone has a good Tuesday0 -
Had a bad night didn't sleep much. I ended up getting up at 3 a.m. to have some herbal tea but after a while I just decided to take a shower and head on into work so I was there before 6 a.m. Stayed until 3 p.m. I'm exhausted now but going to make myself stay up until 9:00 so I can get back on schedule.
I am hoping we get out a bit early tomorrow. I have cooking to do for Thanksgiving and want to make the soup for myself, and honestly really want some alone time. I am planning on working Friday through Sunday to try to get some things lined up and caught up so we're not scrambling end of year. Hopefully at least one day of those will be working from home.
Life is good though. Got and gave lots of love and hugs yesterday. The service was lovely, but COLD! Hanging around at their house after to reminisce, eat and drink was healing.
A lot of my salad stuff this week is going to waste as I haven't had much appetite, and when I do I want something warm. Have been eating baked potatoes with salsa or oatmeal with fruit quite a bit.
Nance, hope your long-awaited patio furniture arrived!
0 -
Hope you get a good night's sleep, Mihani. Really glad the service and visit was healing. So hard to have it at any time, but especially at this time of year. I am very sorry you lost your friend.
Furniture arrived...we love it. I will post a picture.
Did not feel like prepping veggies...having mashed potatoes and spinach.
But will also have the pear.
Sweet dreams all...be well.0 -
Not a very happy looking Lulu! 🐾💜🐾

We have a plumbing issue here - sewage backing up in the toilets and tubs. Unpleasant. A plumber will be here any minute now. I'm hoping it is a relatively easy fix that doesn't involve our septic field, and doesn't involve holiday surcharges. Fingers crossed, butt clenched. LOL
Day three of workers here putting in water lines to shop and orchard. I think they'll be done today.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends. I hope you have a wonderful day with loved ones0 -
Fingers crossed and prayers said for an easy fix! What a headache...and why do these things happen during holidays? The plumbers union must have a hot line to somewhere to make things for bump in the night.
Keep us updated.
I am about to ice my knee and rest...night a great night's sleep...what else is knew. Would like to make pumpkin bread and cranberry conserve tonight.
Later, my sweet peas!0 -
OMG, what a disaster, Carla! Do you think it has anything to do with the work they are doing on the water lines?
Nance, I can't wait for your knee replacement and you can stop being in pain all the time. You are ambitious making Thanksgiving food. I'm making one side dish. Hope it turns out well it's a new recipe. Roasted butternut squash and brussels sprouts with cranberries and toasted pecans.
The patio furniture is beautiful! And Lulu totally looks like she is saying "this is MINE!" LOL
I have not EVEN been doing well food-wise this past week. Not that I'm totally off the rails but I am not eating at all or I'm stuffing my face depending on the mood. Grief is weird. But when I'm feeling the mood to eat I'm not doing anything crazy, mostly toast with almond butter or oatmeal or potatoes with salsa.
I guess my definition of "comfort food" has changed. That's a good thing! But I have also been drinking wine too often this week and will be nipping that in the bud after Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.

Pumpkin bread is a box mix
Cranberry conserve is the most standing time…peeling and measuring. It’s so good. Been making hit for gosh almost 20 years.
Potatoes is peeling
Turkey just needs oven
I did nap…feeling better.
Off to make bread.
🥰🥰🥰

Good morning my sweet peas. Wishing you all a peaceful day...with good food and friends and family...I am so grateful to be part of this tiny group, with an huge heart of support.
I made the pumpkin bread last night...was about to make the cranberry conserve and noticed I bought the wrong size bag...it's 8 ounces...it would have thrown my whole recipe off...so going to the market when it opens...it's right across the street.
I looked up some info on my Hot Logic...it's says it will keep the food hot for 12 hours without drying it out...as long it is covered...I use Pyrex with a lid. So, that will work perfectly for everything I prepared.
Might make one of my four star juices today...then back to having about two to three juices tomorrow from squeezed.com, along with light eating.
Nothing much else going on...so I will just wish you all a very0 -
Mornin' Nance! You just reminded me that the first Forks Over Knives cookbook has a recipe for a chocolate pumpkin loaf that is delicious and I haven't made it in ages. I'll try to remember to make it for Christmas. When I had my old oven it was so dicey baking because it didn't heat evenly so I quit baking for a number of years and just haven't got back into it. It was okay for casseroles or roasting but not actual baked goods.
I got up reasonably early, got laundry started, going to have some breakfast then start cooking. Will be eating leftovers tomorrow then Saturday I'll make soups. I plan on the butternut squash and white bean soup and a pot of lentil soup. Probably not going to do much in the way of salads this coming week. I'm a bit burned out on them and if I take a break for a week they will taste good again. There will be lots of cooked veggies and greens between the soups and a big skillet full of stir-fry.

laughing at the thankful turkey
backed up sewage problem had a $700 solution. they had to dig to find our septic access and unblock the pipe. septic also needs to be emptied but that can wait for another week or two. Indoor plumbing is important! Happy to have it all working.
Water lines all installed and working. Happy to have our place to ourselves again, there was a lot of coming and going for a while there, especially yesterday.
we're having a gardein roast today with yams, gravy and biscuits. I think I'll make a pumpkin pie, too. I have a recipe that isn't too sweet.
That loaf sounds so good, Mihani. I might surprise Joe with that this season. He loves chocolate. I'm a fan too, but it almost always gives me a terrible headache.
Have a lovely day, gals!0 -
Here's the link to the recipe, Carla... https://www.forksoverknives.com/recipes/vegan-desserts/chocolate-pumpkin-loaf/ I would usually double the batch to make two loaves then slice, wrap each slice in plastic wrap, throw 'em all in a ziploc bag and into the freezer. Just take out a slice and let it thaw or pop into the microwave for 30 seconds when you want a treat.
Glad you got the plumbing issue fixed, but yikes. Nothing is cheap is it?
Had a nice time with the family today. Ate too much of course. The butternut squash and brussels sprouts recipe turned out really well and was very pretty. Also had dressing and mashed potatoes. Two glasses of wine. No more alcohol until Christmas.
Have lots of leftovers to eat tomorrow then back to better habits.
