Well I do admit to having had "the thoughts". Both for face/neck and for belly area, of course.

But then I remember that there is a lot of pain in play (and I don't do that happily, sorry! :astonished: )

And I can't say I've ever been impressed with the very taut and stretched skin of people who I suspect have had face lifts couple with the "give away" neck. Or is that the people who had less successful ones and the ones who have perfect ones I wouldn't know? That's an interesting thought

But, for me, the "clincher" is that it took longer than my reasonably expected remaining life span for the (very few) nerve(s) fiber(s) damaged by an arthroscopic incision to remove shattered knee cartilage for the numb/cross-incorrectly firing nerve(s) to start to work "normally" again without random stabbing sensations at the wrong spot and/or numbness in the area. And I am fairly sure that I would NOT enjoy "crossed" nerves near my face... or belly for that matter.

I have to admit that creme use, to some degree, may be predicated on the area/weather/humidity. When I am at dad's I actually feel like wanting to use something to counteract wind, cold, and dryness. I almost never feel the same way in the significantly more moist environment of 'home'.

My mom was so far ahead of everyone mentioned in the cream and cosmetic spending department that it is actually at the opposite end of the spectrum into shamefully wasteful spending.

Bella: I see your MIL $6K in cosmetics a year.... I've thrown out more than that in un-opened boxes already expired long before mom passed. Not expired because she is now gone almost 3 years; but well before. The other day I run into a box of 19 unopened pieces in the basement--from 1999! Actually opened for use a lancome face cream which unbelievably doesn't stink from that box. Y2K. That's correct.

Let's not even mention things like perfume which pre pandemic would have been super easy to sell... (note how mom started writing dates on items once she realized her inventory control module had started to slow down in her 80s--the unboxed, unopened, bottle says Christmas 2016... 0y6cu8tkffxu.jpg

The boat sailed for me decades ago re looking after my skin - I never use any form of body lotion or face moisturiser - the only thing I use when I remember is sun block, because I'm very fair skinned. I started going grey in my teens and dyed my hair for years, but I quit dying it back in 2008 when I was 43, and by that stage I'd already gone past the pepper-and-salt phase and gone straight to silver.

When me, Kim and his mom are out together folks always assume his mom is his wife...and eyes always glide right over me. Used to bother me sooooooo much, but you get used to anything eventually. Though I do have to grit my teeth when she trills: 'Oh no, this is my son not my husband...in fact, he's my younger son! Trill trill. Gnash gnash. :# She's 82...I'm 56...

I think when you've been beautiful it's harder to let it go and age naturally - my MIL was/is a beautiful woman and she'll be lain in her coffin with dyed hair and immaculate make-up. She spends an absolute fortune on her skin care/hair/nails/cosmetics/clothes and she'd have cosmetic surgery in a heartbeat if she could afford it. I think it's such a shame that she doesn't realise you don't need youth to be beautiful.

I was always plain, which I rued as a youngster but finally came to terms with, and now that I'm older I genuinely believe that beauty is a bit of a poison chalice because you miss it desperately when it's waning, but if you never had it to start with the ageing process is much less traumatic.

This is one of my favourite photos - I have no idea who this woman is, but she's absolutely gorgeous! She has such sass and style! Wrinkes and all...

I guess I’ve just gotten too lazy to put in the effort. Makeup only for weddings and funerals. I always forget the face cream - not going to get the miracle if I only use it maybe once a week. The hair is strictly wash and go. I aim for clean and presentable. I guess it’s all about your own comfort level and what makes you happy. But no duck lips 👄 please!

Slapped on a bit of moisturiser this morning - it's called closing the stable door after the horse has bolted!

I think the loose skin is beyond redemption...my belly looks like a deflated balloon and let's not even talk about my upper arms and inner thighs. Crepey doesn't even begin to describe it. Good job my husband loves me...I've lost so much weight from the two girls that they look like spaniel's ears when I lean forward, and swing more than Hugh Hefner. 🐶🕺🙈🐶🕺🙈

Let's cross our fingers that it will get better, Bella. I've read a few people here say that when they reached goal - and lightened up the load of that loose skin - it tightened up a bit. That it took a few years to improve.

I really started losing it when my forearms started to sag too. I mean, come on !!!!!!!

But - I have found - if I lie flat on my back in bed - I look pretty good!!!!!! (not that I would ever take a selfie in such a position or anything :D )

Well the alternative is to regain all the weight plus a little bit more to plump the skin out again...that's a bit of a drastic solution! I hope some tightening does happen in time, but I'm not holding my breath. Skin elasticity is genetic and my mom had very crepey skin from a young age, so I think it's something I'll have to accept.

I'm not anti cosmetic surgery, but I'd only go under the knife if loose skin was problematic (e.g. if I start getting sores or fungal infections under skin overhangs etc.) I'm hoping it won't be that bad...I still have some fat around my midriff so it's difficult to tell how flat my stomach will be when I'm at goal. It'll be flabby, for sure, but hopefully not actually an overhang. But who knows? I've never had a child, but my poor belly has been stretched so much I may as well have birthed a football squad!

You reap what you sow....no use complaining about it now!

Crepey and saggy doesn’t begin to describe my post loss body. Look like a Sharpei dog! But I did the damage and I’m learning to live with it. Careful clothes choices help a lot. Surgery is definitely not in the picture at my age. And I’m not anticipating a miracle snap back.
I do recall when I was younger and lost weight the skin did contract over time. ❣️

I'm 56, I think major elasticity is a thing of the past...

I agree that careful clothes choices can hide a multitude of sins...

Though of course we should feel comfortable showing our bodies in their full saggy, crepey, wrinkliness...they serve us well and we ought to flaunt them with pride, not hide them with shame.

For a select audience only! General public is not quite as appreciative. 🥰

When I look in the mirror I have trained my eyes to skip my body and go to my head!…I am sure many would not swim the way I do because of their size…I really don’t care….I love the water and you have to wear a swimsuit!

Heavens, if I was near water or a pool or could swim, I’d definitely get out there. Size and age should not be a deterrent. I’m sure there are plenty of people at my gym who are amused by the chubby old lady working out. Doesn’t slow me down a bit!
