Early on in my journey on MFP, I read a simple Instagram post on How to Stay Consistent which I happened to screen shot. What’s interesting is that even though at the time it was a quick read and I moved on, looking back at it now I can fully appreciate the advice and am able to recognize how hard I’ve worked on each point during the past year. It seemed like such simple advice, yet trying to master it has been so complex. Is there a particular area that you are still mastering? What other things have you had to get under control in order to be successful on this health journey? The hardest one for me has been prioritizing stress management followed by creating better habits (in essence to deal with stress). And I think I still need to give a bit more time to the point “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good”. Perhaps I’ll add daily reminders for the next month on my phone so that phrase will always be at the forefront of my mind. What has been your biggest obstacle to being successful? Do you have any tips to share that have helped you overcome a particular challenge you’ve had?

@Jana_2020 - this is such a good graphic and full of truth. For me, the one I rarely do is “plan ahead”. I use the excuse that because hubs does all the shopping and cooking, I therefore can’t plan ahead. I add to my journal as I consume so I never know until the end of the day if I’m within calorie limits or not. Which is completely backwards! So I’m making a commitment to work on making pre planning a habit.7

A nice way to start off the day sometimes we defeat ourselves before we even begin…that’s how I feel right now I have lowered my calorie intake but the lack of exercise is not being kind. I tried some spin last night but need to wait awhile longer4

@tahm42 - It's time to look out for what's best for you! What if it gets your throat next time?? Or your daughter. Have it put down, sooner the better. And I'm sorry if I sound cruel or heartless, but this isn't going to get any better!

Today is a pass day for me - totally gave into my emotions and returned to eating for comfort. Today is Beloveds cancer operation, although he was first on the list he didn't go to theatre till 1.30
Although I have over consumed I didn't completely binge so I am taking that as a win, back on it tomorrow11 -
@roma7774 - keeping you and your beloved in my thoughts, and sending good vibes for a successful surgery.2

A thought-provoking opener, thanks @Jana_2020. I’m not good at celebrating those “wins” along the way – I can never think of those NSVs. And, like many others, I’m not good at prioritising sleep. I don’t have too much stress in my daily life now that I’m retired but stuff still crops up sometimes.

@Jana_2020 Those tips have been the bedrock of my success. They encompass the ethos that I have developed over the last 7 years. I aspire to continue to follow them indefinitely.
Habits need to be constantly developed and adapted to take into account where you are, and where you want to be. I’ll take habits over motivation any day.5 -
@tahm42 I agree with the others. I have worked with children scarred physically and emotionally by being attacked by a dog. I am guessing you are the kind of person who tends to put other people´s needs ahead of your own. But in this case, it is not only your own needs, but the risk you are taking of a tragedy. You may need to help your daughter come to grips with the idea that she needs to let him go, but better now than after he bites someone else and there is nothing you can do.5

I appreciate the insight with psycho dog. We have been very careful the last 8 years with him. Trust me when I say I know I am in an abusive relationship with this dog. I know the decision is coming.7 -
@tahm42 I feel your emotional pain our son was only about 9 when he was bit by the neighbor’s large dog. Today he is 26 and still bares physical scars, the need to buy a size larger dress shirt because of the size difference in arms, the feeling bad about the dog etc. What happened to the dog? We never knew as they sold their house rather quickly. Point: as hard as it is and I am a dog owner don’t wait for another bite.4
