That's just lovely, Suzy, that you can walk out your door to a calm, open place with animals to watch. One of my usual longer walks from my door takes me through a field of cows. (Quite amazingly, in a city. I think I've mentioned we have a strip of flood plain running through the city as it's so prone to floods here. Can't build on it, so it's just fields). You two are really inspiring me: I should really get out for those longer walks again. At least I'm doing daily exercise on my programme, but there's nothing like the open air.

I've had a biggish loss this morning, and have hit a few milestones since Christmas, so here they are:

    - I've lost a stone! (14 lbs). Quite excited about this. This is only because of the loss today, so I'm sure it will be back up tomorrow, but I'm going to enjoy it today! This is almost half way to a normal BMI and almost a third of a way to my goal.
    - I've lost two inches off my waist! Didn't really expect this, and supposedly waist measurent is an indicator of visceral fat, so really pleased with this too.

And the others are new categories:
    - in the overweight range instead of obese
    - in the next 10 pound category
    - in the next 10 kg category
    - in the next 10 inch category for waist (i.e. a 20 something waist instead of 30 something. Yes, it's 29.5 inches, how did you guess? Lol)

The milestone I'm hoping for is to get to the middle of the overweight range. I would be there, were it not for the fact that I've annoyingly lost some height!! And also to get into another 10 pound category.

I've started using a website called Trendweight.com. It's the guy who did the Hacker diet, if you've ever heard of that, so it's a similar geeky, number-crunching sort of thing. It links to your smart scale and you weigh daily, and it charts your weight but it also charts your trend. So instead of seeing the weight go up and down, you see what direction it's going in. It also tells you how many calories you have burnt under your goal, so if you're aiming for, say, a 500 calorie deficit, you can see if you're meeting that. I loved looking at the data when I was losing weight before, so this is right up my street, and I'm finding it motivational. I'm quite excited about trying this so thought I'd share!

Morning! I might have to do this in a few posts as we're on a new page and i can't scroll up to remind myself what i want to say ha..

Suzy love the photos!! I have to drive about 45 min to see a cow or a horse LOLOL.. how lovely for you!! Did i remember right you have a nearby trail to your new place you wanted to try - is this on that trail or just in your "hood"??? How are you feeling btw... hope you're recovered now?

Vail - where to start.. ohhhhh my gosh woman.. huge CONGRATULATIONS !!!! on EVERYTHING!! I KEEP looking back to see the list.. you MUST be doing the dance of joy today!! Great accomplishments on all of your successes... and how smart are you to be tracking inches as well as pounds! I would LOVE to be able to say i had a "20" ANYTHING waist lol... so happy for you - truly you've worked hard and im thrilled for you with your results!

I googled your trendweight site... kinda cool idea i must say - that it tracks the "trend" instead of recording all the fluctuations we know happen.. i think i mentioned as an experiment one day i weighed myself every 4 hrs.. even during the night as i'm often up several times.. and i think there was a difference of 5 lbs up and down thru that 24 hrs... ! so the trendweight is a great idea and since u already have the wifi scales, no $$ investment (another plus for me lol)..

I'm really pumped for you Vail - you're doing just great and making yourself a priority - and working towards the tomorrow you want for yourself.. high fives!! I hope your weather improves so you can get out for walkies and actually enjoy it rather than battling the elements lol.

It went up to about 32F here yesterday with little wind and the sun actually peeked out a few times so i played pickleball outdoors.. there were only 4 of us so there was NO down time lol.. so we played for 1.5 hrs straight.. i can feel it today but it's a good ow (mostly!) but it was fun and nice to see some other humans too so it was a good day. I made a nice "hash" (that's what we call it anyway) out of the leftover cabbage, turnip and carrot and diced up a small piece of the ham and an onion to add and it was yummy. I have one serving of each left so that will do for lunch and tomorrow i will have to suck it up and do some groceries lol.. tonite will be some fish with whatever veggies are in the freezer, and i have a few fingerling potatos i will slice up and toss on the cookie sheet next to the fish - my home made version of a healthier fish and chips lol.

Congratulations Vail! My gosh! You are really doing fantastic! I love that you’re tracking all the numbers. That’s such a great idea. Well done you!!!

Snoozie, so glad you got to play PB and get some socializing in. It really does make a difference to our frame of mind to get out and see other people.

I need to try cooking turnips. I haven’t had any since I was a kid. I made salmon again last night. I think my husband is actually starting to like it. Lol.

The photos are from the road that runs behind our house. We can hear the cows when we sit on the back porch. We’re enjoying it! My husband has hiked the entire local trail (maybe 3 miles?) and I’ve done a bit of it. I’m feeling better but still a bit congested. Hopefully we can go hiking sometime this weekend. We’re looking forward to this spring, warmer weather and some hiking.

lol on turning your hubby into a salmon lover Suzy! I admit I'm kinda jealous you have such an idyllic surrounding at home... im glad you found the trail and have started to check it out. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better and hope the congestion goes away soon too.

I can't wait for spring and warmer weather too lol... sadly we're going back into the deep freeze over the weekend... but it's only 38 days til spring now LOL... and yes i ask siri every day how many days til spring!!!

I took the plunge yesterday and went to the indoor pickleball session... i haven't played indoors for over 2 years but now that things have opened up i thought i would give it a try.. im not gonna lie i stood outside the gym and watched for a few minutes trying to decide .. it's a huge gym with 4 courts and i counted people lol.. there were 16 on the courts (4 on each) and 3 waiting on benches on the side.. but everyone waiting were on separate benches instead of beside each other... and everyone was wearing a mask when they weren't playing... so in i went. I think it was just a little intimidating seeing "that many" people inside... and i had a great time but omg.. the noise level after pretty much being solo and indoors for the past 2 years was crazy LOL.. it made me think of when we used to be able to go to live concerts!! right now i can't even imagine that frankly.... but i hope it happens again.. Josh Groban is coming to Toronto this year on his tour and i would love to go... sigh... but i'm not sure if its going to be in the outdoor amphitheatre or inside one of the concert halls... and i dunno if i could handle inside lol..

i'm down a pound this morning but that's ok because it's a "normal" loss rather then "forced" - pushing the veggies and water and keeping to the smaller portions i think are working.. altho yesterday i was starving by the time i got home from pickle, and i stopped at our local bakery and got myself a turkey, havarti, lettuce, tomato, onions and green pepper sandwich on a lovely soft portuguese bun (which if you know what they are.. you know how big they are!) - I figured it counted as 4 veggies hahaha... and i had 1/2 for a late lunch and the other half for dinner later and was perfectly comfortably full after both.. there was a time i would have scarfed down the whole sandwich without even a second thought, but i was thinking the other day too now that i'm retired, im not even walking around as much as i used to at work.. i was constantly on the move during my shifts and up and down every 5 minutes... i kinda forgot to figure that lack of movement into my current status so have to remember if i'm not expending as much energy anymore.. i don't need to take in as many cals either. But i'm definitely getting a lot more nutrients in now that the gut has settled down so i'm happy with that. I'm not happy i'm going to have to do groceries today tho lol...

I bet the noise was overwhelming! Good for you for getting up the nerve to go in. I’m glad everyone was being safe.

My sister is going on vacation to Disney World next week with her daughter and grand babies. I will have sole responsibility for my parents while she’s away. Mom has a complex UTI and is getting a pic line for daily antibiotics infusions. I’ll have to drive down (75 minutes one way) every day to take her to the infusion center. It’s going to be a long week. Lol. I need to figure out some quick meals to make when I get home in the evenings. I was up a full pound this morning. I’ve been snacking way too much. It’s all gluten free but it’s not calorie free. Lol. My portion control has left the building. I am fully aware when I’m in the middle of stuffing my face that I need to stop but then I don’t. What. Is. Wrong. With. Me? Ugh.

Thank you for the congratulations! My weight is up again this morning, so I'm glad I celebrated the loss yesterday, lol!

Sounds like the pickleball was good, Snoozie. I hope you get to see Josh Groban. I think even indoors is fairly safe if you have a decent mask. Although I suppose it would be really crowded, but still, I do think the quality and fit of masks makes a big difference. I'd be tempted to get a ticket, then you could see how things are and resell if maybe cases are high? Unless they're really expensive.

I hope your mom's OK, Suzy. What a pain that you have that drive every day. That will be the whole day gone with driving there and taking her for her infusions.

I know just that feeling of eating while telling myself I need to stop! I have been there so many times. I've even sometimes hurried to the kitchen and grabbed something to shove in my mouth before I can stop myself, lol. It's like I'm two different people. So I have no advice to offer, just empathy!

Suz there are times life demands convenience for sustenance and sounds like next week is going to be one of those times for you! Not sure I have any answers either.. one of my friends husband has just started radiation treatments; (they are both 75) he has to go 5x a week for 4 weeks and its about a 1.5 hr drive each way to get there.. so her adult kids made up a bunch of frozen dinner casserole type things to have on hand for fast and easy dinners .. admittedly they aren't necessary "healthy" i.e. lasagna, chicken and rice, chili, that sort of thing... but after a long day on the road and in hospitals, same as youre going to be doing next week.. she takes one out in the morning to defrost int he fridge and just has to pop it in when she gets home. So that might be an option for you if you have the time before you go to freeze some stuff? Or perhaps go with just a sandwich and soup or breakfast for dinner.. i often do a quick omellete and toast for dinner.. frozen veg would come in handy as a side if you like those... and maybe dinner out at a restaurant one night? or delivery as im sure you're gonna be exhausted..

its gotta be all about convenience for you next week for sure.. and even if they're not all that healthy you can counteract it with portion control ? And maybe bring some easy to eat snacks like nuts or bananas for on the road so you're not starving the second u walk in? That's all i have for suggestions my friend... well that and be kind to yourself cause its gonna be one of those weeks where you have other priorities that are going to interrupt your own for sure.. hugs !

Vail i had to laugh at your comment about running to the kitchen and shoving something in before you can stop yourself lol.. i did that last night with peanut M&Ms !! I've had a craving for them and i bought the mid size bag as a treat.... big mistake lol.. i counted out 10 and put them in a little ramekin to sit with my book... and this i might add was after a big dinner for me of a stuffed chicken breast with ham and cheese, along with broccoli, cauli and a few mini potatos.... so i was totally full!! .... but i wanted those M&M's... and of course.... it was mindless non stop one after another - after about 5 minutes i reached for the cup and.. it was empty? so what did i do? say that was very nice i enjoyed that?? nooooooo.. i got up and refilled it .... 3 times LOLOLOL.. and the bag was gone. So much for portion control - i just wanted to get them in before my tummy rebelled!! And i did... but i have to admit i felt like crap later which is no wonder; an entire bag of M&M's on top of a big dinner.. blech... but it didn't stop me!!

Vail - i thought of you this morning remembering your post about the different sizing in clothes?? omg..

i went to try and find some new "pants" for indoor pb - without a word of a lie i must have tried on 30 different yoga pants/leggings/sweat pant type bottoms.... it was completely ridiculous i brought in a few different sizes because with the weight loss i wasn't sure ..

BUT... i tried on an XL in one brand.. and i coudn't even get them up over my thighs... ?? Then i tried on a SMALL in another (which is had brot in by mistake as the hanger said M but the tag inside actually said small)... and they were so BIG they kept falling down.. i even double checked the sizing in case i was losing my mind... but nope... A SMALL was huge...

Some of the L were too tight, others were wayyyyyyy too big.. the XL was too small, the Medium was too big... and one "1X" (how is that different from XL by the way?) was also too small.. I was literally losing my mind and getting so frustrated!! Thank god in the end i did find 2 pair that fit relatively well... but after not having shopped in person in pretty much 2 years, it may be another 2 years before i shop again pandemic or not!! arggggggggggggh lol

It makes you wonder what the point of clothes sizing is when it's so meaningless! Just give us the measurements instead. I hate clothes shopping in person anyway. So demoralising looking at myself in a changing room mirror!

So funny about the M&Ms. I have done exactly that, putting a measured amount into a small dish, then just going back for more anyway. I remember doing that not too long ago with a packet of salted peanuts!

I would really love to go down a dress size. I don't feel my size is reducing that much yet, it's not noticeable and my clothes aren't loose, although that might be because they were overly tight to start with!

LOL Vail on the peanuts !! and yes as brutal as in person is, i dont know how anyone can buy clothes online beacuse the sizing is useless.. i'd be spending my whole time returning stuff which would annoy me even more lol..

I've just had a pair of trousers arrive from Vinted. Lovely good quality trousers, in my usual size, and I thought I'd checked the measurements out, but much too big! So frustrating. I think at the moment I can hold them up with a belt and they'll look ok. Have to admit a little bit of satisfaction at them being too big, though!

My victory today is that I'm now closer to a normal BMI than an obese BMI, even accounting for my loss in height. (I was between measurements in inches so always rounded up, now I'm at the bottom end of that measurement). I've had a good loss for two days in a row, and keep thinking it's because yesterday and the day before I ate konjac noodles. I know it's not that, but I think I really still want there to be a "magic pill" rather than just eating less! I am going to keep eating konjac noodles, though!

Planning to meet up with friends for a bring and share meal soon, and I'm going to come off my diet just for that meal. I am bringing desert, so it will be strange making that after so long without sugar! I'm planning to do a cold one and a hot one if I get the time and energy. Will try not to eat loads, but we all know that overeating at just one meal is just a minor setback - as long as it's not a habit!

Wow talk about a victory Vail! That's awesome. .congratulations !! I've never heard of the noodles and will keep my fingers crossed they are the magic lol.. but i think the real magic is you have been totally CONSISTENT in your efforts.. every day you've been making it your priority to stick to your plan and reaping the benefits of your hard work.. perserverance and consistency are paying off and i'm really happy for you! Now i have to go google what a konjac noodle is.. btw sorry you lost your sauerkraut lol.. thankfully when the jar of beets fell out, they took my jar of sauerkraut with them to the floor.. but it was a much heavier glass so it didn't break. And my kitchen no longer looks like a crime scene from the beets.. I lost count of how many times i had to wash the tiles and grout tho!

Why not send the pants back and get a smaller size Vail? Especially if you really like them it would be lovely to have them actually fit well?? You've earned that.. and I have to admit when i first started losing weight on this MFP journey, I kept wearing baggy stuff for quite a while.. i really didn't want anyone commenting or noticing (then i got miffed because nobody was noticing hahaha) and honestly it wasnt til i went shopping with a friend who stuck me in the dressing room and brought me clothes to try on that i started doing away with baggy.. I'll never be one for tight fitting clothes, but i def needed that mind set break..

I'm meeting a friend this afternoon for our "wings and wine" therapy (as we call it lol) It's been 2 years since before the pandemic, and i too am defnitely going to have some wings and wine! Part of my strategy for less food waste and weight loss is to limit take out/restaurant food to once a month; last month i did it twice but this month, my wings and wine will be my splurge for the month. So I hope you have a wonderful time with your friends... and i hope you share what you're going to make for your desserts - i can live vicariously that way!

Vinted is secondhand clothes, so I can't send them back! I could try to sell them on, but I can't be bothered, to be honest. I think I will keep them and start a trend for loose trousers.

Thank you for the congratulations! I hope I'm not bragging too much, and I know you have involuntarily lost a lot of weight so let me know if I'm being insensitive! I'm just finding it useful finding these little achievements. It has been so long that my only achievement has been that I didn't regain all the weight I lost!

I think konjac noodles are usually called shiritake noodles and are used a lot in Japanese cuisine. The amazing thing about them is a whole serving has calories in the single figures. I have two types in the house, and one has 9 calories a box and the other has 8 calories, I think. Because I'm not eating a lot of calories I'm quite enjoying the extra bulk.

There's a vegan Chinese restaurant near me that uses konjac as imitation prawns/shrimp. It's actually really convincing. Such a strange food.

Hope your wings and wine therapy goes well! Sounds like a lovely thing to do! Yes, I will update you on my deserts. I have some plans!

LOL woops on the 2nd hand - ha sorry i didn't pick up on the name - assuming as in vintage! I think that's a great idea on starting a new trend!

oh my gosh Vail - my loss from the ick has no bearing here!! I'm genuinely thrilled for you - and WANT to keep hearing how you're doing!!! I'm not at my goal weight yet btw even with that loss!! But I'm wanting to get there the healthy way now - and i am truly totally thrilled with your success! And want to celebrate every achievement you have right along with you, my friend!!

I did actually google the noodles - i thot at first they were what we call Soba noodles here, but after reading it i realized it's not - and yes i read they are pretty much calorie free and are made from a yam like plant?? I can totally get the "bulk" feeling - can you cook them in broth? I love a Vietnamese Pho soup and i was thinking those noodles would be great for that... !!

I had a great catch up with my friend - I had 5 "roaster" wings (which are bigger than regular fryers lol) and we split a serving of sweet potato fries but even between us didn't finish that. A nice glass of wine and a 2 hr chat and the timing was perfect at 3pm - the restaurant was pretty empty (we're still only at 50% capacity allowed in restaurants here) so for my first "outing" indoors to eat it wasn't too stressful. And was lovely to see her "in person" instead of via video chats..

I'm especially intrigued about the "hot" dessert you're thinking about.. ??

Suzy.. i hope you are feeling much better by now and that you were maybe able to figure out some easy meal ideas for the upcoming busy week of road travel

Baggy pants makes me think of Annie Hall. You could totally rock that look, Vail. I’m going to have to google konjac noodles now.

I’m so glad you were able to spend some time with your friend, Snoozie. It sounds like you both enjoyed catching up face to face.

I am feeling better, thanks! We babysat our grandbaby (I guess I need to stop calling her a baby, she’s almost 2!) last night. Highlight of my week! She’s just the best! We stuck around and played cards for a bit. It was really nice.

I’ve got a few things in mind for dinners next week: salad, brinner (breakfast for dinner), soup. I haven’t had time to make anything ahead of time. I’ve got fruit for the drives so I don’t stop and get a candy bar. Lol.

I hope the week is going OK, Suzy. I'm thinking of you with all your driving. Good planning on taking a healthy snack with you! I sometimes carry some nuts for emergencies, but of course they are quite high calorie. I'd never heard the word brinner (maybe because our evening meal is "tea", lol!) but I like it, and I might have that myself one night. Are you still gluten-free/low sugar? I suppose that would rule out the easy options like sandwiches and pasta.

It's so nice that you are getting that precious time with your granddaughter. She looked such a little bundle of joy in the pictures you posted. I'm trying to imagine her at 2 now! I just love toddlers, and their capacity for emotional expression, their eagerness to learn and their optimism. Such fun!

The noodles would be great in a broth, Snoozie. I have experimented with using them as a pasta replacement (I have bought them shaped as tagliatelle, spaghetti, etc.), but I think they work better as Asian (to be really broad!) noodles, in soups, etc. Having said that, they did work well as pasta. I was having a small portion of bolognaise sauce with the noodles and a lot of kale and seriously struggling to finish it, which isn't like me. Only about 300 calories in the dish, but I think all the bulk made it harder. I had to take a break and have a small meal of the rest later! So definitely a win on the feeling full front. Or maybe that was the kale (sorry, I know it's not your favourite food!).

I'm glad I posted here when I had a big loss a few days ago, because of course my weight has now bounced up again and hasn't gone back to that low! I have to not be impatient and keep reminding myself that I'm not going to lose weight at the same rate as some people. I've been on this "weight loss journey" for years, so I don't know why I feel I need to lose loads of weight in one week! I think I'm feeling pressure that I'm getting closer to the end of the programme and then the weight loss will slow even more (or stop, unless I put the effort in!). There is still a downward trend so all still working was intended and I need to bear with it!

"There is still a downward trend so all still working was intended and I need to bear with it!"

Vail - you're doing awesome!!! And you're absolutely right you just have to keep doing exactly what you've been doing - perserverance and consistency with the practices you've already put in place will get you there... its possible you may plateau for a bit while your body adjusts but if you keep going on as you have been doing, when it's done the adjustment it will catch up to what you're doing now!

I think both Suzy and i can relate to the frustration moments for sure.. and remember my experiment about weighing every 2 hours over 24 - fluctuation of 5 lbs in 24 hrs !! so don't let the distraction of a bit of fluctuation throw you off your path - you're really doing so great at making your goals your priority and taking care of yourself and the "proof is in the pudding" (I've never understood that expression lol") in that you've lost the weight following your plan and the hard work it has taken.. so keep at it girl! It sounds too like you're actually enjoying the food with the addition of some new discoveries like the noodles, and thats even better that you aren't feeling deprived but enjoying your food!! Well done Vail... keep the faith!

Oh my gosh, Vail. We’ve all been there and know how frustrating it is. You keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll get there. You’re doing great!

So…personal question…I was reading side effects from the konjac noodles and it mentioned intestinal things like constipation, gas, diarrhea. Did you find that to be the case or is that only if you eat them daily? Too personal? Lol.

Mom’s appointment tomorrow is at 9:00 am. I’ll have to get up at 5:30 to leave by 6:30, get there by 7:50 to make sure she’s actually up and ready by 8:00. It will be rush hour. Ugh. Then it’s 10:00 am for the three days after that. It won’t be that bad. Just a lot of driving. I didn’t have to drive down there today.
  • Vailara
    Vailara Posts: 2,476 Member
What a pain that it's an early appointment and you have to allow for rush hour. And what an early start. I think it's quite difficult missing out on any sleep at our age! Even the driving... I haven't driven anything like that far for years. The furthest I've driven from home in the pandemic has been about 25 miles round trip. My father lives about maybe 5 hours drive away (it's a long time since I've done it), so I go to see him on the train. With that and working I can't easily help him with appointments, so I'm left off the hook with daughterly duties. I really admire you and other friends in the same position who are doing so much for elderly parents.

I haven't noticed any side effects from the noodles! Yes, I'd read about that too, and I do get problems with some foods, but they don't seem to noticeably affect me. I have IBS so things aren't perfect anyway. I think there's quite a lot of fibre in the noodles, but I suppose I'm used to a lot of fibre from vegetables. I can't claim that I'm 100% gas-free, though, lol! But not any noticeable difference with the noodles.

Thank you both for your encouragement! Trendweight has been useful in keeping my gains in perspective. My cat vomited on my scales this morning (is he trying to tell me something?). Last time he vomited on my scales, he broke the sensors, so the fancy parts no longer work. They give me results but they're not accurate, unless I have magically dropped to 19% body fat and had massive muscle gains. Anyway, after I'd cleaned it up, I weighed and it seemed like the weight was wrong, so I thought he'd broken that too. Kept getting on and off. Then it occurred to me to check on my other scales, and I it turns out they weren't broken, I'd just lost weight, lol! It took me into the next 10 pound category and I wasn't expecting to see that. So yes, shows the benefits of just keeping with it.

    Victories today:
    - I have just crossed the middle of the overweight BMI range, so I'm now closer to a healthy BMI than an obese BMI.
    - In a new 10 pound category.
    - I tried on a pair of XL trousers I bought maybe a year ago that were too small, and they now just fit! Will need to lose a bit more to make them not too tight, but at least I can do the zip up! Looking forward to wearing them. Incidentally, they are supposedly the same size as that other pair of trousers that are too big, lol!

And another small victory: I was cooking last night and there was a power cut. I was not prepared and was literally in the dark, so had to ditch the cooking and just have a snack of cheese, nuts and fruit instead. Anyway when the power came back on, I threw away the half-cooked meal instead of finishing it and eating on top of the snack!

On the downside, my tummy has deflated and looks like a burst balloon! I was very lucky with my weight loss the first time round in terms of my skin, but I think I just don't have enough hormones these days to help it recover and pull in again. Nobody sees my tummy except me and my cat, though, so I can live with it - I would much rather the fat was gone.

    Suzy safe travels this week!!

Vail - i almost choked on my coffee reading how you wondered if your cat was trying to tell u something by barfing on your scales LOLOL.. THANK GOODNESS you thot of checking the other scales and huge congrats on moving into a new 10lb mark, and even better edging towards the healthy BMI mark.. woo hoo!!! And the non scale victory on the pants! I would consider that a new wardrobe piece now lol.. and of COURSE they are the same size as the too big ones.. sigh... honestly the sizing in women's clothing is a complete joke... probably invented by a man to torture us !

kudos to you on swapping out dinner and not having 2 lol!

As for the deflated balloon.... i've got the same thing on my upper arms, belly and FACE!! I know on the face they're called wrinkles.. but they weren't there before i lost that weight from the gut stuff.. and my neck!! Gak.... i think because as we age our skin loses elasticity so when we lose weight... it doesnt bounce back?? That completely sucks!! Nobody sees the rest of me either cept my face - the whole world sees that.. maybe masks are a good thing after all??? LOLOL

Very proud of you Vail - well done and keep up the great work... and don't forget .. i wanna know what "hot" dessert your planning for the get together!!)

Yes, so funny about the cat. I think he is jealous of the scales because I use them every morning and he can't understand why. It's hard enough because he'll often stand on them when I do. I'm convinced there's some reasoning in where he chooses to throw up!

I haven't decided on the hot dessert, well pudding. At the moment I'm thinking either apple or rhubarb crumble, sticky toffee pudding, or cloutie dumpling, which is a Scottish boiled pudding which I love but which I think might not be so popular with others. I used to have it fried for breakfast sometimes when I was growing up and it's amazing!.

well i love the crumbles and the sticky toffee pudding lol... but i've never had a cloutie dumpling so i'll have to google that... maybe decide based on which one is gonna be the easiest to transport LOL??

ok i googled the cloutie.. honestly.. it sounds almost similar to our christmas pudding except its wrapped in a cheesecloth them steamed for several hours and served with either a brandy sauce or a cream sauce lol... soooooo nope im afraid that wouldnt be on my list either lolol

but i LOVE rhubarb (or apple) anything and a warm crumble with a bit of cream poured on top .. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Cloutie dumpling does have some similarities to Christmas pudding, but it's much lighter. I didn't used to like Christmas pudding as a child, but loved cloutie dumpling. Also you probably wouldn't fry Christmas pudding for breakfast! But I think it might be the most divisive of the above. I don't want something that's too hard to make, and I still don't have a cooker so I'm going to have to be creative. I had an Instant Pot recipe for the dumpling so was going to try that. I have an easy recipe for sticky toffee pudding but it's one where you have to eat it straight away (the Nigella one that the sauce is made with the pudding), so wouldn't work, but thought I could maybe make on in advance and microwave it when I'm there. I could set up a crumble and put it in her oven when I get there, but I don't know if she'll already have stuff in there. Maybe I should just do a cold one after all! I have a couple of ideas for that. It's just so wintery here that I thought we could do with a stodgy pudding!

Ummm I hate to admit it but I would definitely have pudding for breakfast 🤣🤣. After almost 40 years of shift work I can eat anything at anytime of the day or night lol. And I’ve definitely had cake for breakfast before 🤣. I personally vote crumble because it can be nuked quick to warm it or stuck in the oven but I admit my vote is only because I love a good crumble of any kind but especially rhubarb ha ha. !! I also love pie but it’s all about the pastry filling ratio for me lol. The pastry has to be very flaky and there must be a bite of pastry and filling each time …. Which is why I always eat my pie slice backwards I start at the wide end in and work my way up to the small pointy end lolololol. It’s actually quite a skill ha ha

You two are making me crave sweets. Stop it!!! Lol. For some reason, when you said “cloutie” it made me think of a baby’s diaper. Is clout a Scottish word for diaper? I don’t know where I got that. Lol. So thinking of cloutie dumpling didn’t sound appetizing to me. Now, a crumble is a different matter all together! Yum!

I’m ready for this week to be over. Three more days of taking mom to the infusion center. My sister asked me to cover Monday because she has some appointments for estimates on home renovations. It wouldn’t be so bad but mom is just such a difficult person and dad’s dementia has gotten so bad that he can’t do the most simple things anymore. I tell you, my sister is a saint for dealing with them almost every day.

I found some of those noodles and will be trying them soon. I also found some cauliflower tots and almond flour tortillas. All these interesting new foods to try!

I would eat pudding for breakfast too (and have done!) but I think most don't lend themselves well to being fried (particularly in bacon grease! Or salted butter) I think Christmas pudding seems a bit too heavy and rich (and crumbly?) to fry, whereas cloutie dumpling is perfect! Having said that, I've never tried frying Christmas pudding so I may be missing a trick!
Yes, I think clout might be a word for diaper, although we always called it a nappy when I was growing up. I think my mother used clout for cleaning cloths. Sorry about all the sweet talk! I think I've jumped at the excuse to make something sweet and I can't stop thinking about it now! I'm expecting a weight gain and regret the next day.
Snoozie, I'm the same with apple pie. I used to be really good at making pastry (when I was young and slim), but not going to attempt that especially without the cooker. I tend to eat the outside edge first because the pastry ratio is off too!
I hope you enjoy the noodles, Suzy. I had them a couple of times before and didn't really like them, but this time I think I was just so excited about the low calorie count. They do smell of fish when you open the packet but are fine if you rinse them well. They have a bit of a chewy texture which I quite like. Almond flour tortillas sound good. I remember making pizza with almond flour back in my low carb days. It was actually pretty good, but oh, the calories!

ok we'll stay away from the dessert talk until you actually decide on what you're bringing and you can let us know then Vail!

So as you know i was tracking my weight because of the ick... for the past 30 days i have stayed at the same weight (within one pound up or down) so I think I can finally shake off the anxiety that the ick will come back and start working on real, healthy weight loss again. I have noticed i am definitely eating more lately... bigger portions and more often and my tummy is now definitely expecting more .. i think i'm going to find it hard to find that fine line between eating a healthy amount of nourishment and just eating too much food period, whether its healthy or not. So i will just focus on getting back to 60% veg, 20% protein and 20% carbs on my plate (not that i actually use percentages lol - just picturing my plate split up that way..

I did read an interesting article about during the cold months, our bodies need "greens" that are cooked and/or warm vs cold salads.. they don't digest cold salads well in the colder months and we do better with cooked or warm salads.. i do love a warm roasted vegetable salad but i always have it mixed with cold greens.. one suggestion was to put the bowl with the greens in the oven for the last few min while roasting the veg and let them "wilt" .. interesting concept.. but i will admit i dont eat much salad in the winter at all but only because i just dont feel like it.. i want warm, carby, comfort foods when its cold lol.

I have bloodwork next week for my endocrinologist prior to a phone appointment with her in early March.. I am curious (but not anxious) to see the numbers as an illness or ick can throw off your blood sugar levels, and since this test gives a 3 month average of your A1C, i'll be interested to see if there's anything weird that shows...

but its funny.. a few days before blood work I always try to be an "angel".. drinking lots of water, eating well etc.. its kind of like NOT flossing for a year then flossing like mad the day before the dentist appointment LOLOLOL..

That's good news about your weight stabilising. I like your 60/20/20 plan. It sounds very nice and simple. It will certainly be interesting to see your blood results. What way do you think they would go? So funny that you are doing everything right beforehand ... when the test is showing three months, lol! It sounds like you are cramming for an exam!

Interesting point about the cold veg. I had heard something similar but forgotten about it. Have to admit I am still eating salads, but maybe not the best thing when it has been snowing outside!

Illness of any kind, even a cold can make your blood sugar levels go UP... so that's why i'm curious to see where i'm at as most of the period the test will cover was during my gut ick lol..

Ha yes like cramming for an exam!

i'm at a loss for dinner tonight... i had a nice small boneless pork chop with green beans for lunch (it was supposed to be leftovers for dinner but i was starving at lunch time lol... so it might just end up being scrambled eggs and toast LOL

I’m having bloodwork done on Tuesday and I find myself doing the same thing. I didn’t order a glass of wine last night and find myself being extra vigilant. Lol. I know I’m being silly.

One more day of driving down to my parent’s place and taking mom. She was in rare form today. I’m worn out.
