Hello Everyone and Hello March!
March is a favorite month of mine. There's more daylight, more warmth, and the promise of Spring on the horizon. Even if us cold-climate dwellers have to slog through mud season first, warmer days, open windows, grilling, gardening, and outdoor exercising will be returning soon. I can't wait!
Since our February theme of identity-based habits resonated so well with the group, let's continue this focus into March. If you are just joining us and are unfamiliar with identity based habits, please read the intro to our February challenge.
Looking forward to hearing what you'll be working on this month and who you want to become!
Let's make March a great month!

In February, after I do my 1st workout of the day
…I will do > 15 minutes of flex exercises.
28/28(Yoga/Tai Chi/Pilates etc)I have been doing a flex workout immediately after my morning cardio workout, plus various stretches before/after exercises sessions. It’s fairly well established now, so feeling accomplished about February
Instant Reward: draw a star on my tracker.
(I love to see those squares fill up 😂)
Long term reward: 3 sheets of birthday peel-offs if I complete the month.
Extra reward: finding it easier to lace up my shoes/trainers 😂

What kind of system does VP "play off of" ? I know one needs the goggles to "see the world" and perhaps gloves or some other connected accessory so that the system can register arm &or leg movement, but apart from that .... what does getting set up for this kind of thing require?2 -

Hi everyone! Happy March! Denise, I agree....I love March for the same reasons. Today in Wisconsin it is 40 degrees and sunny! Spring fever is in full swing in my brain...
I love the identity-based habit idea! Mine is focused on only eating when hungry and stopping at enough...

She has Oculus prime goggles. The two handsets had a joysticks, triggers etc, and you could also grasp things and lift them. She played the system through our Wi-Fi using her iPhone.
I was able to manipulate items quite well after minimal practice.4 -

Hi all you habit ninjas! I love the idea of identity habits. I remember discussing this with my sister and encouraging her to see herself as a musician. I am kind of in the process of redefining my newly retired identity. So I'm no longer a kind and consistent teacher. Hmmm, what am I now?!
I'm a walker. I'm a walker. I'm a ...
I'm a bit tired of all my tracking, but I think I still need to do that.7 -
Hello everyone. I had a miserable February but March is going to be a better month.
I am a person who will have toned arms.
I am a person who does daily devotions.3 -
@77tes You retired? Congratulations!!! Oh, I'll bet you are loving it! Do you feel a bit lost? I'm still trying to find my new purpose...
@TerriRichardson112 My son has Oculus Prime. I put the goggles on once and it was so cool! I felt unsteady a bit but it was like I was in a Jurrasic Park movie, and those dinosaurs were close enough to touch! So fun! He did mention that there are things he puts on that really work off the calories. I've been thinking about getting the set for here but keep telling myself I'm too old for toys...1 -

I am a person who always sits down to eat her meals.
I am a woman who does not feel the need to over explain herself.
I am a soul that takes care of her wellbeing by doing self development, journaling, mediatating, reading, praying and practising gratitude.
I am a person that distracts herself from worrying.
I am a person who pretracks her food and does intentional exersice on the weekend.
I am a person who takes progess measurments fortnightly.
Good luck with your habits and goals for March guys! Xo

Hi to you both! I’ve missed you
Happy retirement @77tes. And yes, @PackerFaninGB, it does take a bit to transition!!
I feel like I’ve finally figured out retirement, but it took awhile. I was also a teacher. I was still doing some part-time work in 2019 & early 2021that I slowly decreased & eventually ended June 2021.
During that time I’d been organizing my art studio & watching lots of art classes and doing various pieces.
Slowly, I began listening to the little voice inside me. I figured out my favorite color palette (obvious once I did, but elusive before)! I figured out the art supplies I loved to use & those I didn’t. I figured out ways to combine the ones I love.
Finally & most importantly, I identified & accepted (then celebrated) my natural style of art & art-making.
And then, it all came together!
I’ve created every day since - so excited I can’t wait to work on my art.
Enjoy the Journey & so Great to See you Both!

Identity-based habit for March (scaled waaaaay back from 3 unrelated identities in Feb 🙄) :
I am a person who keeps a tidy kitchen. Level of tidiness permitted to vary at first, so long as I SHOW UP and at LEAST "sort / stack dishes and put food items back in pantry / cupboards ... "

You are so NOT too old. My daughter is in her 50s I’m much older, and I’m thinking of getting it. It definitely can burn the calories.

Hello! I just finished reading the resources listed above regarding Identity-Based Habits, so I will need to think more about setting my March Identity-Based Habit that I'd like to build.
I do want one of my identities to reflect that I am a person who stops eating at enough; but I don't know how to measure that in small actions, so I'm going to look at February's thread to get a better idea of how to best set these and I'll come back and set my REAL habit change for March!
I hope that isn't too confusing...my brain is like a squirrel sometimes and only I can understand how it is working.3 -
So, I’m sitting watching TV, and suddenly I notice that it’s after 9 pm, and I haven’t eaten 2 of the items I logged for after dinner.
I still have loads of calories left, but then, I realise that I’m not actually hungry, and I am now a person who refrains from eating after 9 pm.
Identity-based habits are a powerful force for behaviour modification. I have deleted the two items. I don’t need them.

I'm off to a good start. Thank you for the idea of identity based habits. I struggle to do exercises that I am unfamiliar with or don't especially like. Today at lunch I was tempted to go for a walk instead of doing arm exercises (even though I have wanted to do this strength training video for at least 5 years now). But I had written in my day tracker that "I am a person who will have toned arms". So, out came the weights! It took me the full hour to learn what to do, rest in between, and finish the exercises (it was a 12 minute 51 second video lol). As I'm writing this, my arms are sore and I'm feeling accomplished. Likewise, last night I was tempted to turn on Netflix and chill out but since I am a person who does daily devotions, I paused the show and got it done.
Although I still have my habit tracker loaded with several things I want to accomplish, these 2 are going to be the priority in order to focus on less and do them well. The others will be a bonus.7 -

Who am I? Good question I have many hats that I wear through the day but who am I?
I love music so I play guitar but will keep my day job.
I am mom so I keep supporting and nurturing.
I am a wife you are my friend.
I want to be organized this months goal, put away laundry when done.
I want to organize mail, sort and dispose when not important.
I want to be healthy as I can for me, exercise and track.3 -
@TerriRichardson112 I got a laugh out of: "I am a person who regularly indulges my inner child". Good for you!! Life is more fun that way!1

2nd, 3rd and 4th report
All habits on point except for standing while eating this one my friends is so habitual and has been something I hve been doing for years that it's a tough 1 for me to break. I am a stay at home muma who is about to go back to work in a few weeks so I'm hoping that cos I won't be handling food as often than this will be hopefully much easier to achieve. In the mean time I will try hard and continue to be a person who sits while eating. Chewing gum wen prepping food, & prepping dinner in advance helps so I will ensure I do that tomz.xo2 -

I know I’m a little late to join, but I’ve been lurking, mulling this habits issue over. @MadisonMolly2017 alerted me to this wonderful group and I’m sold. As I debated what habit to build, I decided to focus on something that has become a real problem but is more of a mental health issue than physical health.
Since my retirement last September I have fallen into the terrible habit of wasting way too much time on my iPad. A daughter told me “so what, you’re retired, you can waste all the time you want.” But I hate that feeling at the end of the day when I realize I accomplished so little. There are so many projects I’ve ignored. Vacation in February helped recharge me and I want to snap out of this bad habit.
So - “I am a person who appreciates time to relax each day, but also wants to be productive and not waste time. Therefore, I will:- Set a timer so that within 1.5 hours of first sip of coffee, I am done sitting. I will then get up and do my stretching.
- I will put time limits on my iPad for certain apps so that I cannot waste hours accomplishing nothing.
- I will keep a to-do list for easy reference.
