Mindful March!

Time to revisit the ground rules to keep us going in the right direction...and it does not have to be an all or nothing proposition.
I think this is true because things begin to snow ball. Once we see we can make small changes easily and they do make a difference...then we tend to gather momentum and voila...BIG RESULTS!
Here's to a Mindful March my sweet friends!

Morning all...really early morning...ugh.
Mihani, sorry bout the tummy issues. Hope by making the change to cooked veggies helps calm those symptoms down.
I had a great visit with my surgeon yesterday. He was pleased with my progress. I have a total of 14 more sessions with physical therapy. I am now driving, so very independent. Just not sleeping all that well...but that has always been a problem for me.
My bend is not great...and because of all the damage to my knee (two previous operations 1969 and 1973...cartilage removed, medial and lateral) I will most likely only get to 115 degrees bend...and right now I am at 109 with help from PT and tears...very painful. So I have a ways to go.
But I get to start swimming...good to go with walking Lulu, recumbent bike and treadmill. So lots to do to get me active again. I just have to watch not doing too too much...as my right knee is not great. (I just have to be careful...it is not as bad as left knee was...I just need it to last a bit longer).
Surgery for new right knee will be next January.
Having coffee right now...(crazy, I know, but will try and go back to sleep in a bit)
B: French toast (have to use up liquid Just Egg) using Ezekiel bread
L: Vegan pho (my first day driving to PT...I am going to pick some up on the way home...it's all veggies and they even have veggie spring rolls...vegan)
Dinner: Left over pho
Dessert: strawberries
Wishing everyone a good day.

Thanks for getting things going for March, Nanc. It's a good reminder that I need to practice my mindfulness. I am always so stressed this time of year and start to feel like I'm getting an ulcer or something, but it always passes so I just need to calm down, do the best I can, and breathe! I am going to try to go without any tea tomorrow.
Supposed to get together with friends Friday night but I'm taking a wait and see on that. Depends on how I feel. Alcohol is probably not a good idea! LOL
Nanc, so glad to hear your recovery is going so well. Woohoo! I bet Lulu is really enjoying those walks.
Tried to eat things I thought would be easy on my stomach today.
B - ezekiel toast with tea
L - oats with blueberries
D - not sure... maybe a little soup from the freezer
Plan for this weekend is a big pot of veggie soup with spices including ginger. Figure I can eat that all week and hopefully start feeling better. I don't know for sure what all will be in it but I think broccoli, baby spinach, bok choy, mushrooms, onion, red potato. No recipe just going to wing it.

Hey girlies...
Your menu sounds good, Mihani...I think it works well for tummy issues...so DO make that big pot of soup. I will join you. I am going to make clean out the fridge soup!
I will use better than bouillon vegan chicken...or I have another one in the pantry...can't remember the name...and just add in all my veggies...I know there is broccoli . I have to use up what is in the fridge before shopping...I waste too much.
As you can see, I am up again way too early. It's ok for now...but it is a bad habit. Once work starts again, April 15th, I had better have my sleep schedule ironed out.
I go back to work six weeks from tomorrow. I need to use this time to not only get this knee in great shape, but make excellent food choices ...I am mobile now and I have time...two elements that usually elude me when before surgery.
I just put an order in at thrive market...staples. With the current world climate and how things are here in the states...good to have the pantry well stocked...IMHO.
Hope y'all have a good day...and Mihani, take care of yourself...this time of year is tough for you. Sleep, good food...meditation...all important.
Talk to you girlies, later.
PS Lulu pooped again, OUTSIDE! Thank you, God!

So, I am using Thumbtack (Find local professionals for pretty much anything.) to install a Ring doorbell...I have had it for years, never installed. I think it's their first one.
Anyway, he was supposed to come today, this morning, but has not responded with a time...kind of frustrating.
Just sitting here waiting, like a goof.
I just sent him a message, asking if he was still coming today and what time. We'll see.
Weird, cuz he was so prompt when I hired him to put a chair together.

Hey gals,
Just got back from my mammogram. So happy that it isn't hanging over me anymore. And it was super fast and easy. I have ultrasound 1 of 2 done, doctor's appt done, mammogram done. First physical therapy appointment for my shoulder is this coming Monday morning.
I've continued to make good progress on my tapestry, and I've now gone all the way to the top of the frame. I have the bottom inch or two to complete, and some tweaks in the beet itself and then it will be done!
There's a theme here. I'm getting stuff done! It feels good.
today: smoothie, salad, oranges & homemade bean chili0 -
Got up in the middle of the night with a full blown stomach flu. I have been sick all day and mostly in bed. NOT good timing. I hope it's one of those 24 hour things and I will be back in the office tomorrow. I couldn't even keep down tiny sips of water until a couple hours ago. Got up for a bit to feed the dog and eating some ice chips. So far so good. Afraid to try to eat anything else.
Going back to bed. Will catch up with y'all later.
1 -
Oh no, Mihani!
Hope you feel better in the morning!0 -
-
Thanks, gals. I'm still home today. I feel better but really woozy and weak. I still haven't eaten anything other than ice chips, and I was glad that Nanc mentioned the better than buiollon because I had some in the cupboard. It wasn't expired, yay, so I have had a couple cups of that just a few sips here and there since last night. At least something in my stomach. Afraid to try much else.
I get up and think okay I'm feeling better, then within half hour to an hour I'm back in bed. Sigh...

I'm so sorry you feel this bad.
Yikes, when do you think you might need to go to urgent care or check with your doctor? I mean, you don't want this to develop into something big?

PT is killing me...I was so depressed yesterday afterwards...so frickin painful and crying as she works to get more bend. I am starting to hate it. I do know it is part of the deal...but it seems to be getting worse, not better.
Going to go hard on veggies today...
coffee with nutpod creamer
oatmeal with blueberries
big salad bowl like Chelsea makes...all the colors.
left over pho
strawberries

Ugh, I know the PT is painful, Nanc, but it will get better I'm sure! Your menu sounds great.
I'm remarkably better today. Must have just been some kind of virus. My SIL brought me some white bread and bananas yesterday because the internet tells me I should eat low fiber foods for a few days. I've been able to eat little bits here and there, and continuing to drink cups of buoillon throughout the day. Made it down to the office for a few hours this morning and now for a nap. I will work here tomorrow and get some laundry done. It sure feels good to eat solid food again!
Going to make some pasta tonight. Hopefully by tomorrow I can make my soup and get back to real food, but I think I'll stick to cooked veggies for quite a few more days, no raw.

I didn't even end up napping yesterday. I think I can safely say my energy is back because I got the floors swept up, did 2 loads of laundry, and made my soup. It has onion, mushrooms, broccoli, bok choy, veggie broth, garlic, ginger, turmeric, cumin. Just threw it together and it turned out really tasty. No idea how much of each ingredient is in there but I'm always generous with the spices. I was able to eat a small bowl of it last night and this morning my stomach appears to be back to normal.
Guess I can give the rest of the white bread and pasta to my boss. I was thinking I'd need to stick to low fiber foods for a few days but it doesn't seem like that's the case so I can get back to my regular foods.
I do have to eat light that's for sure, but that's not a bad thing! And I'll probably avoid eating grains for a few days.

I'm happy to hear that you're feeling so much better, Mihani. That soup sounds good. I need to make something like that.
Your painful PT appointments are setting my expectations for my appointment tomorrow, Nanc. I am not looking forward to it, but at the same time it will be nice to know more about what is going on. I'm not 100% convinced that it is just a matter of exercising my shoulder to fix this problem.
Back when I ordered that front closure bra, I thought I might be all healed up before it even arrived in the mail, but it turns out since this has been going on for so long, I needed to get another front clasping bra.
Joe was outside yesterday doing some yard work and getting some drone footage of the property before the spring yard cleanup. Hopefully the before and after are different lol
I will get back into the groove and join him soon but I am still in winter hibernation mode. The weather is lovely.
Now that my tapestry is done, I need to start designing my next project. It will be a much smaller study now that I understand the time involved.
b - smoothie
l - surprise soup. some miso, broth, mushrooms, carrots and who knows. definitely ginger.
d - last of the chili0 -
So happy your tummy is better, Mihani!
Good luck with PT tomorrow, Carla. Hoping your experience is better than mine. I just don't understand why they have to get you to the point of tears. And Friday, it was a boat load. -sigh-
today
coffee with nutpod
oatmeal
chels salad
I am going to make a soup like yours, Mihani...I have all those ingredients!
fruit for dessert
HAGDE...stay well!0 -
That's a bummer about your shoulder, Carla. I can't recall if you said previously, but have they done any x-rays yet or anything? I think sometimes they push too hard for PT first when they don't even know what's wrong and it could make it worse.
Nanc, I left out a couple things if you are going to make the soup! I also added fresh ground pepper and no salt seasoning. I sauteed the onion first, then added the mushrooms and once they started to release moisture I stirred in the spices then added the veggie broth, chopped broccoli and bok choy stems, brought to a boil then reduced the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, then added the bok choy greens to wilt in at the end. I sprinkled a little nooch on top when serving. I think a little dash of cayenne would be a nice touch, but I didn't think of it when I was making it.
Got some work done this morning then ran to the grocery for a few things. Just had lunch and back up to my desk I go.
B - half a bagel with almond butter and a banana
L - big bowl of soup, honeydew melon, rest of the bagel (plain)
D - since I ate lunch so late probably just have some fruit and yogurt later
I got two of the silk greek style yogurts at the store. Haven't ever had that so I'm looking forward to trying out. I will get back to more fully WFPB once I know I'm totally past this virus.

Oh, and Carla, congrats on finishing your tapestry!0

PT appointment done! Feels good to have the first appointment behind me. I was given a dozen or so exercises and stretches to do 3x a day, and then I'm back there early next week to follow up. Still don't know what exactly is going on, but I have pretty good strength in that arm, so it is mostly movement involving rotation that I have to work on. Luckily for me, she doesn't want me to push to the point of pain. Discomfort is fine, but I am not supposed to overdo it, at least not for now. No tears, yay!
Not much else going on. I did a few TM workouts this weekend and that feels good.
smoothie
hummus with carrots, cucumber, cherry tomatoes
water fried vegetables over some noodles for dinner today0 -
Hi, busy busy day so a quick check in. Ate my soup and some fruit and a few pretzels throughout the day, pretzels mainly because I was in the office over 10 hours and had no backup food. I will have to work on that!
More work to do tonight so I have to keep moving. Glad PT went well, Carla.

Hello all. We are back from Japan. We arrived last week. Unfortunately Brooks has a cancer in his tongue. He had surgery and treatment at Tripler in Hawaii for 4 weeks and now needs close follow up. Japan was beautiful and a wonderful experience but happy to be back in the USA. I recently bought a new cookbook called Veganomicon. You all probably familiar with it. We made the best vegan minestrone tonight.0
-
Bisky!!! I just thought of you the other day and wondered how things were going in Japan. Glad to see you. Sorry to hear about Brooks though. Hoping it was caught early and he makes a full recovery.
Veganomicon is awesome but rather overwhelming. It's a BIG book. I've made quite a few recipes from it over the years but I rarely use my cookbooks anymore. I mostly just throw things together.
Off to work!

Donna! Nice to see your post but sorry to hear about Brooks. Is the follow up in Hawaii as well? What state will you be living in? I have the Veganomicon too. I have made a few things from there and they have turned out good. I should page through there again.
I have an ultrasound tomorrow because they found a lump while doing my mammogram. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Joe is waiting for me, so just a quick hi. Will post tomorrow1 -
Yikes, Carla. Let us know as soon as you can what you hear about the lump. *hugs*
I am working 12+ hours per day right now so not much time to check in. I am going to take time this weekend to make a couple things for easy to throw together meals. Thinking a big skillet of cooked veggies, greens and beans, a pot of quinoa, and hummus.
0 -
Just got back from the ultrasound. Everything looks fine. Nice to have that off my mind!
Having a veggie sandwich from town. so good! Probably just some Amy's chili for dinner. Easy mode!0 -
Took off a little early today so I can work on a project I've been trying to get to for 2 days. Hoping to get it completely done tonight.
Yay for good news on the ultrasound, Carla!

Got through this week, whew! I did a juice day today, from the local place mostly green very little fruit. I feel good and one more juice to go before bedtime. I am ready for bed now honestly... I am worn out! But I need to make myself stay awake until a reasonable bedtime so I don't get all off track on my sleep schedule.
Office tomorrow and possibly dinner with the family, working from home Sunday and have a hair appointment Sunday too.
I am going to make a big pot of lentils with greens and veggies on Sunday that I can munch on all week. That, salads and fruit should be all I need. I need to lay off the junky stuff though. So busy and eating for energy. Things like pretzels and crackers and blue corn chips.

Sorry to hear about the cancer, Bisky...hope Brooks continues to heal.
Yay, for all clear Carla, good news indeed.

good morning! not much to report today.
I re-injured my shoulder on Thursday when I was attempting a walk with the dogs. The field is uneven and really saturated right now and as I started to slip it was my automatic reaction to throw my arms up in the air to regain my balance. I didn't fall but man oh man that was some awful pain in my shoulder. I have taken a day off of the PT exercises but will see how it feels this afternoon.
Here's a little tapestry I have been playing with to audition different yarns. Just playing around.
2 -
Hey Nanc! Glad to see you. I was starting to worry about you again. So happy to hear that you love your new knee. I like Chelsea too, glad you recommended her. I don't watch youtube videos often but I did catch a few of them on the treadmill a while back when you first mentioned her. Very cute and funny.
Carla, great idea to play around with different things on the tapestry. I'm so sorry about your shoulder. My pain is more in my bicep area up through front of shoulder. I was on the floor doing doing some filing the other day and grabbed the counter to pull myself up off the floor not thinking about it, and it was all I could do not let fly with a stream of obscenities from the pain. Fortunately I bit my tongue as we had clients in the office. LOL
Today wasn't bad but wasn't great. Ezekiel toast for breakfast, Dr. McD soup for lunch with a few pretzels. Dinner was munchies at my brother and SIL's house, plus a couple beers. Mostly blue corn chips with hummus and guacamole, plus some chickpea cucumber salad thing she got form WF that was quite good.
I put in nearly 7 hours in the office today. It was great because my boss wasn't there and I got SO much done with nobody interrupting me. I am working from home tomorrow. Hope to get in at least another 7 hours. Feel like I'm making a little headway but every time I say that all hell breaks loose so I don't know. Rescheduled my hair appointment so I don't have to break stride tomorrow and can keep at my work. Also need to do laundry and some cooking for the week.
