I think the hardest thing I ever have to do is tell a client their pet passed away unexpectedly. It's hard enough when they know the chance of survival is low. It kills me when I have to let them know a pet that was expected to live didn't make it. The perfectionist in me blames myself. Even knowing I'll do this, I'm powerless to stop doing it.3

@SUFFERLANDRIAN - So much of what you do has to be so hard. I can't even imagine. And you're right, because you care so much, second-guessing yourself just happens as reflex. But deep down, you know you've done everything you can. My heart goes out to you, Dean.

@sufferlandrian I can't imagine doing what you do with animals. And I say that as a people nurse. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a vet, but thinking about that now, I wouldn't have lasted a week. As the cat momma of two, I'm grateful there are people like you who do these things. Thank you.
2 treadmill miles. Rain all day. My cats have been sleeping all day, more than usual. I may be in trouble tonight.

I STARTED TO SAY THAT...."the day got away from me due to work and ended up with a rest day. There goes my exercise streak." But screw that. I don't care how late it is. I went and did a short 4.0 mile stationary bike ride under higher resistance to pass my goal.

@Dean: I know people have already told you this, but you have chosen to take on a job where the outcomes are all ready stacked against you. And yet it should give you great joy knowing that you are able to pull through so many animals who might never had a chance without your help. We just don’t know or understand why things happen the way they do, but as long as we do all that we can to help stack the odds the other way, that is all we can do. I would never last long in your profession because it would be too hard losing an animal. Hugs to you.
