Question: When it comes to eating, do you tend to be focused or distracted at the task at hand?
Challenge: Try eating one distraction free meal this week.
4 -
I struggle with eating my meals distraction free and notice that I try to multitask with phone or computer.
To practice eating more mindfully, for one meal, I set a 20 minute timer on my watch, and look at my food notice the taste, textures, smells and try to count chews a minimum of 20 times with each bite.
I try to catch myself if I'm eating while standing or driving. When I multitask, I lose track of the amount of food and don't enjoy/taste food as much.5 -

Funny old day today (Thursday). We flew back from Kos during the night – boarding the aircraft at about 00.30 – arriving in UK (Bristol airport) at about 03.30 after a 4 hour flight – and turning the clocks back in time 2 hours. So, no sleep at all – just a doze in an uncomfortable seat. By the time we got through passport control and baggage pick up it was after 4 am. A coffee and croissant were necessary before we went any further.
Finally got home at 8 m – a long and fraught journey – and went out for coffee and bacon baps. I kept going all day including 2 bike rides to do shopping but now I’m running out of steam.
Obviously, lots of walking – got nearly 1,000 steps in before 1 am! Over 13,000 now. Plus the bike rides.
I did track my meals – including the croissant and bacon bap.
Calories were within my limit. (The early morning croissant was for medical reasons!)
So, three yeses today.
I’ve lost count of the pass days but I’m aiming for Champion this month. Coming here and checking in has helped me to keep mindful of what I’m consuming.
I will weigh in tomorrow and see what the damage looks like.

MIA since last Saturday. Horrifying storm left destruction for miles. Our power returned Tuesday but were without internet and cell service until today. Thankfully possessions can be replaced and we are all safe and healthy...others were not that fortunate. As a distraction, faithfully recorded food and exercise manually each day. Thanks to this group, my ongoing accountability has definitely become habit forming. ;-)

I am a person who likes to do one thing at a time. I sit at the table to eat with no distractions except conversation. However, I have a very old habit of eating fast. I broke the habit for awhile between 2008 and 2011 with a lot of mindful eating and a policy of setting my fork down between every bite, but when I stopped being disciplined about making myself put the fork down, the habit has returned.

I eat with distractions. When I sit down to eat my meals they are measured and I don’t eat any more than what is on the plate. I do need to slow down when I eat and put my fork down. In the past I have switched hands to slow down.4 -

I usually eat with distraction. Very rarely do I just focus on the meal. I know in theory this might make it more enjoyable, but I am also a fast eater, do not savor.. etc. Perhaps not the best habits but I am always sure to measure before I eat so I know I am not eating mindlessly from that perspective.4 -
3x yes
I am one of those fast eaters. I'm usually done before my partner is even halfway through his food. He sometimes refers to me as a wood chipper.
I attribute it to being the only girl with brothers who ate up everything at the table so if I wanted seconds I needed to eat fast. Also, we grew up in the era when eating everything off your plate was the rule so I didn't want to overload my plate on firsts. I periodically try to slow down but it doesn't usually last for very long.
We generally chat about our day at dinner but otherwise I read when I'm eating alone as it seems a more efficient use of my time.4 -

✔️✔️✔️
Exercise was very heavy today and I know that I am going to feel it tomorrow. Gardening for at least four solid hours (all day) and ended with a walk with Beauregard. I sat down with a decaf tea when we got home and I am not sure I can make it up the stairs for a hot shower. 🥴
I am a very speedy eater and my husband is extremely slow — making my speed all the more noticeable. I struggle to stay at the table waiting for him to finish. I track it all before I eat so that isn’t an issue. If I am alone for a meal, I read.3 -

I eat slowly these days because if I eat quickly (or distracted) I don’t register the food as being eaten.
I think this will be my goal in June.
No phone while eating.
May is going very well with my
Morning veggie prep habit - delicious! Really helps to have them as ready to go as the nuts & raisins 🤣😂🤣😂🤣4 -

Wow - another topic that is provoking me to examine myself and my habits a bit more. I'm definitely a distracted eater and unless we are having company, rarely eating at the kitchen island or at the dining room table. I think I eat way too fast now and will work on that to slow down and savor more.4 -
