Oh no, Carla! Sorry to hear about all the fruit tree disasters. Thanks for sharing those recipes. Have you got back into making mode?
In a fit of utter madness I signed up for TWO classes this morning. Strength followed by a stretching/mobility class. I made it through! Actually the stretching/yoga kind of class made me feel good and released a lot of the tension in my shoulders and neck. I'm going to continue the two classes on Saturdays for the next while since more than one weeknight of class is going to be tough for me with my busy work life, but I'm going to start doing 30 to 45 minutes of strength one or two more days each week at home.
B - 1/2 cup oats with cinnamon, a tablespoon each of chia/flax and hemp hearts, and 2 tablespoons raisins
L - power greens and mixed berries smoothie
D - big ol' salad (romaine, red leaf, napa cabbage, red pepper, red onion, carrot, edamame) with ginger miso dressing, probably an apple
I might make some brown jasmine rice to add to the salad as well.

Doing well with the food though I did have an acid reflux middle of the night - woke up choking and scary my hubby terribly. So am somewhat tired this morning - learning how to breath through kidney stones that need to pass - have passed a few the last few days and believe there are still more to come. Will be overjoyed when they have completely left my body. Checking in with doctor on Monday to see how it goes and to change my diabetic meds
*Breakfast**(eaten at 9 am) 6 oz oatmeal with 2 tablespoons unsweetened apple sauce and some cinnamon and 2 small oranges that weighed out at 6 oz total.
**Lunch** (to be eaten in about 1 hour) 2 slices 100% whole wheat bread toasted with 1 thick slice of onion, 1 tomatoe cut in thick slices, 1 lettuce leaf and 1 teaspoon yellow mustard spread over both slices of toast and 1 granny smith apple
**Dinner** (to be eating around 5 - 6 pm) 6 -9 oz boiled potato (after it is cooked I spice them up with garlic and onion , stir fry veggys consisting of tomatoes, onion, green pepper, arugula, which is cooked in a little water and a little veggy broth. If needed a granny smith apple after the meal
My weigh in day is on Tuesday at my TOPS meeting - from last weeks weigh in till today I have lost 2.5 pounds so could possibly hit the 3 pound loss for the week - but am not counting the chicks yet as anything can happen - but I am on track and that is what counts

Hope you are feeling better, Marilyn. Your menu today sounds great.
Okay I totally blew it tonight calorie-wise. I had read about a new vegan restaurant opening about 10 minutes from my house and I have been meaning to check it out. Thought I'd pop in on the way home from the grocery for a carry-out dinner and it turned out today was their grand opening. They had a lot going on and it was fun. Chatted with the owner while waiting for my food and they threw some extras in my order that I didn't know about until I got home and of course I ate everything. LOL
Nice folks, hope they are successful.
Oh well, I think I probably worked hard enough this morning to cover the calorie splurge but I need to get back to business as usual.0 -
Mihani, the green bean recipe was very tasty; but the next time I make it I would blanch the tomatoes and remove the skins before adding to the dish. It came from a cookbook I have, Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant, which literally broke in half one day when I picked it up off the table about a year or so ago. I decided then that I would make a list of the recipes I wanted to try, and cook my way through the book so I could eventually throw it out. Well I got about half way through my list and we ended up moving so that plan got put on hold. Now that we're all settled into our new home, I thought I'd start up with that list again. I made the Spinach with Pine Nuts and Raisins earlier this week (delicious), and in the next day or two will by making Greens Adobo (I have a bit over 80 recipes to go ).
Your gym classes sound awesome (and I'm a bit jealous about having a vegan restaurant so close to you home).
Carla - so sorry to hear of your fruit tree problems. The only fruit tree I've ever had was a blueberry bush back in Jersey. It always fruited ok, but the birds always seemed to get them all (and I mean ALL) just a day or two before they were blue enough for us to pick
Marilyn - sorry to hear about the stones, I hope the rest pass quickly for you. Good luck with your weigh-in on Tuesday.0 -
I have one of the Moosewood cookbooks, Spring. Can't remember which one it is off the top of my head. I don't use recipes all that often anymore and just throw stuff together, but I want to start trying new recipes maybe once a week. I have so many cookbooks that I should be using more often!
Definitely sore this morning. My lower back was kind of ouchy before taking the two classes yesterday and still having problems with my shoulder. They are great about individually modifying exercises for anyone who is having issues. There is a young woman who has a physio and wellness practice in the same suite as the gym and I think may be somewhat affiliated with them. I chatted with her briefly the other day and am going to schedule a consultation.
Plan for today (and will be sticking to it!) ...
B - lots of lettuce and veggies in ezekiel wrap with dijon, an apple with a smidge of PB
L - big ol' salad
D - roasted broccoli, sauteed onions and greens, mashed potatoes
Going to the office just for a few hours then home to do laundry, food prep, more work from the home office. Making mashed potatoes, sauteed onions and greens, roasted broccoli, ginger miso salad dressing.
I've been sticking to an eating window of 9 am to 7 pm although I usually manage to tighten it up a bit by putting off breakfast until 10 ish. Except for Saturdays because I have to eat something light a couple hours before the gym or I think I'd pass out! I've been having oats with a couple tablespoons of raisins and some chia/flax and hemp hearts. Seems to be just right to fuel the workouts without feeling full. I also add a scoop of plant protein powder to my smoothie after a workout.

Busy day just finished dinner got home late!
B - (at work) roasted broccoli on a bed of couple cups baby romaine
L - leftover mashed potatoes and sauteed greens with onions and pinto beans
D - big ol' salad, ezekiel toast with 1/4 avocado
I made the mashed potatoes last night and they are pretty darn good! Used this recipe but I didn't have powdered bouillon so I just added a bit of soy sauce for umami. https://nosweatvegan.com/full-proof-vegan-mashed-potatoes-oil-free-wfpb/ I also added some smoked paprika. They go great with the cooked greens and pinto beans. Very satisfying lunch.

Up a few pounds! I am hoping that has more to do with our 2 salty dinners in a row than the extra caramel apple I had. I made a sushi bowl last night to get in some fresh greens. Tasty as usual though I have unfortunately developed an aversion to avocados. I used to love them. Now, just the smell turns my stomach.
We have a small amount of sushi bowl leftovers, so we will either augment that or do a fajita bowl for dinner.
6 am here so I need to get out and water the garden before it gets too hot for this cool weather loving gal. Have a great day!0 -
Today is my official weigh in day = down 4.4 pounds since last Tuesday = am pleased with that. That really proves to me that when I follow the 12 day plan to dynamic health as per The McDougall Plan that I will feel better as I am eating more healthy foods and because of that I have lost weight.
Now to it again for the next 7 days.

Mihani, do you put anything on your roasted broccoli, or just put the raw stuff in the oven? You've reminded me that I've been craving some potatoes (mashed, baked or roasted) I feel like I haven't had them in ages. I'll definitely be adding them to my shopping list this week.
Carla, sorry to hear you're up, salt can definitely do that to you. A member on another group I'm in posted that she weighs in every day but then takes an average of the seven days for the week. That way she avoids the disappointment,, stress and annoyance of one or two bad days due to salt, period, party day, etc.
Marilyn, thanks for the hugs, and congrats on the big loss!! That's quite impressive for one week!
Plan on cooking my Greens Adobo tomorrow (bought collards for it).

Carla, I hate those fluctuations too. I've been bouncing up and down the same pound or two for a week now. Hoping to break the plateau soon. Has it been really hot there?
Marilyn, congrats on 4+ pounds! Definitely sounds like you are doing things right. Hope you are feeling better.
Spring, I just sprinkle the broccoli with coconut aminos and no salt seasoning, roast at 450 for about 30 minutes. I like it nicely browned in places but still with a bit of bite. If you let it go too long it dries out and is pretty gross so I start checking it after about 20 minutes. I make a big sheet pan full almost every week.
Gym night and had a good workout. Tomorrow is my 30 day review with the owner to talk about how I'm doing and what we might need to tweak to reach my goals. I know I need to start doing more exercise, especially cardio, on non-gym days. Work has been crazy busy and I'm having trouble mustering energy for much of anything when I get home. Need to just do it anyway.
B - roasted broccoli
L - mashed potatoes, cooked greens with onions and pinto beans, salad
D - smoothie, ezekiel toast with 1/4 avocado (after workout light dinner)

Congrats on the 4.4lbs, Marilyn, that is fantastic!!!
Nice to read about everyone doing so well!

Mihani - thanks for the broccoli recipe, I'm going to try it next time I get a head of broccoli
Carla - I'm going to be trying your tofu recipe tomorrow. I have a package of firm that's near expiration date, so I'm going to use that. I'll just have to be a bit more careful tossing it I guess.0 -
Hi all, another crazy busy day at work. Had my appointment at the gym and she helped me think through what's going right and what I'm struggling with. We have revised a couple goals for the next 30 days and other than that staying the course.
Breakfast and lunch same as the past couple days. Dinner big ol' salad. Might have some fruit when I finish my salad if still hungry.

Small update - all is going well. I did have a scare re having to go to the emergency re ambulance due to horrible pain. After many tests was told that my gall bladder has some very small stones and also I have kidney stones, all very small.
So do to that I am really taking care with what I eat. I think I might have mentioned that I have The McDougall Program 12 days to dynamic Health. Went through it for 12 days but didn't follow it exactly and only lost 0.5 of a pound in 12 days.
I am now on Day 5 of doing the program as it is layed out. Have lost just over 4 pounds so far and am enjoying the food I am eating. Really thought I would miss eating chicken or having oil but don't miss it. I am not hungry, I just eat when it is meal time and then continue with the day.
I have not set a weight loss goal with a date as it always backfires for me. What I have done is the following. I have just gotten into the 240's (248.2) so my 'goal' is to get out of the 240's and get into the 230's but without a date in mind - just eating the way I should according to the program I know I will release the weight and will be surprisingly pleased with how fast it does come off. Over all I have not felt so good though I do have many health issues
Here is my food for today
**Breakfast** (ate at 8:30 am)
oatmeal (about 6 oz) with 5 - 6 fresh strawberries mixed into it. Plus one juicy orange
**Lunch** (to be eaten at 12:30 pm)
Sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread consisting of 1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard divided over both slices of toast, 1 slice of thick raw yellow onion, 1 tomato sliced into 3 slices, 1 lettuce leaf. Will have a granny smith apple with this
**Dinner** (to be eaten at 5:30 pm)
Boiled potato with garlic and onion powder sprinkled over it and served with a stir fry (using water and vegetable broth) consisting of sugar snap peas, green pepper, yellow onion, tomato, green cabbage with a couple tablespoons homemade tomato sauce over it (I use no salt or sugar when I make it) and will have some frozen blueberries and strawberries should I feel I need a 'sweet' after dinner

Carla, I made your baked tofu today for lunch - super yummy!! Thanks again for the recipe.
Mihani, I hope your job gets less crazy for you.
Marilyn, sorry to hear about your heath scare, I'm glad it wasn't too serious. I've never tried to do the McDougall program, I'm fine without sugar, but I think I'd have a hard time with no salt and no oil.
Today:
B - a couple of mini rolls with some Violife cheese melted on them ( I made it through about a week and a half with no processed food then, last week when we were grocery shopping, I broke down and bought the Violife and a box of Tofurky deli slices )
L - Greens (collards) Adobo and Carla's baked tofu over mixed greens
D - Yes-you-van black bean chili and spinach with pine nuts and raisins

Hi Marilyn, hope you are feeling better. Dr. Fuhrman says "Focus on your efforts, the results will follow" and it sounds like that's exactly what you are doing. I am trying to do the same thing. Just get to the gym and keep my diet in line, don't worry about the scale.
Spring, I like a sandwich with those tofurky slices, lettuce and a slice of daiya cheese. I haven't bought any in a long time though.
Home early because the boy had an appointment at the vet. I should get some more work done but not going to. I was going to make something for dinner but my veggies still look pretty good so I'll have a big salad and toss what's left since I'll be picking up fresh veggies tomorrow. For the new folks here, I hired a friend a couple years ago to prep my salad veggies every week. She shops, cleans, chops. I always have enough to cook some of the veggies.
B - last of the broccoli
L - mashed potatoes and greens with pinto beans (I made WAY too much mashed potatoes and going to have to toss what's left)
D - big ol' salad, a smoothie

Marilyn, I am glad everything is okay after your trip to the emergency room! I have heard that the smallest stones can be the most painful.
Spring, glad you liked the baked tofu! I will post the variations I do, too. There's one that pairs well with Indian food and one for Italian. I just switch out a few of the spices.
Is the vet appointment a follow-up to make sure your doggo is healing up well, Mihani? Hope it went well! Any plans for a vacation this summer? I know you were hoping for late July or early August.
I'm in a bit of a negative head space and worrying about things I can't control that are in the future...like my parents getting older, like ME getting older. I rarely wear makeup and especially not in the last few years with covid, but suddenly feeling older, I tried to compensate with makeup. Nope. Looks overdone and cakey. Settles into the lines on my face that snuck up on me. And I've got loose skin issues from gaining and losing weight so often. Ugh. Um, so that's how I'm doing right now LOL
Okay, so here's my plan moving forward: I am going to be consistent with my exercise. Exercising regularly always improves my mood and energy levels. I am done with the caramel apple treats. Can't handle them. I will make them for special occasions only. I made sure to not even purchase apples this last shop so I can't succumb to temptation. Aside from the caramel apples, my food is good enough for now. There's always room for tweaks but I want to keep it simple.
plan for today:
fuhrman blueberry oatmeal
strawberries & greens smoothie
mushroom red sauce over whole grain pasta with italian baked tofu & walnut parmesan
Here's my go-to walnut parmesan recipe in case anyone is interested. Super easy!
1 cup raw walnuts (unsalted)
3 Tbsp nutritional yeast
1/4 to 1/2 tsp salt
Put in a food processor and pulse multiple times, being careful not to over-blend. You want fine crumbles, and it can turn to butter fairly easily.
Use in place of parmesan cheese.
Keep in a sealed container in the fridge. Will keep long term.
oh and Happy Friday!!0 -

Carla, I'm a little worried about the boy to be honest. He has developed a cough and not eating as well as usual. He's a senior dog so it's especially concerning. Doc couldn't find anything on exam so he's on some antibiotics and if he's not any better in a week to 10 days then we'll do x-rays to see if anything is going on internally they couldn't feel.
It's funny I just in the past week started wearing makeup again after going without since Covid started. I am not doing foundation or anything just a little bit of mascara, brow pencil and lipstick, but it seems so dramatic after no makeup for so long.
I was just thinking about the loose skin thing last night myself. I really notice it in my thighs, upper arms and neck.
So I guess we're on the same wavelength.
Sounds like you have a good plan and you have that wonderful trip to look forward to!
Bought stuff to make the OSG orange-maple noodle bowl this weekend. I remember liking it a lot when I made it a few years ago. Just going to have salad tonight since I got home rather late again.
Gym in the morning, then going to a show with my brother in the afternoon and an early dinner after. Looking forward to a day of no work.
B - oats with berries, chia/flax, cinnamon
L - Dr. McDougall soup, 2 wasa crackers
D - big ol' salad, maybe a pear or orange

@Mihani - you showed for lunch Dr. McDougall Soup - can you tell me what is in it - I have The McDougall Program 12 days to dynamic health = is has recipes for 12 days and a few different soups - just wondering which one you are having - I am slowly working through trying some of the recipes but we still just go basic with chopping up the vegetables and making a stir fry rather than complicated recipes. But if you could let me know the name and give the soup a rating it would help as I am still rather new to the program - only 4 weeks now. Thanks0

Marilyn, I buy the soup cups from https://rightfoods.com/ to have on hand for office lunches when I'm out of prepped foods end of the week or forget to bring lunch. They aren't anything exciting to write home about, but are convenient to have around. The only two of them I buy are Hot and Sour or Miso Ramen. The other varieties I didn't care for much. Recently I tried Chef Soraya brand (no oil in these) and liked them but a couple of the flavors were a bit too spicy for me https://www.chefsoraya.com/. Have also tried various other brands that have minimal oil but it's hard to find ones that have NO oil in them. I don't eat them often just when I don't have any other options. I take 3 or 4 apples and maybe some clementines to the office on Mondays so if I forget lunch I know I have a Dr McD soup and some fruit to fall back on and I don't get into the snacky salty stuff in the office kitchen.
Up early and have laundry started. Going to do a little cleaning before heading to the gym.

@Mihani - learned something new didn't realize he sold prepacked soups - but as we live in Canada would need to pay shipping then exchange so think it would be easier just to make it myself. But nice to know there is that option. But we don't use credit cards so that is something else to go against shopping this way.
But otherwise I am doing today. I am about to make homemade tomato soup and will be adding some fresh vegetables to it - love when we have things that are homemade.
Today is day 23 of following the program and all is well - we will see on Tuesday how the scale feels about it but should be a fairly nice number I think

Mornin' all... I slept about 10 hours! We ended up not going out to dinner after the show and I wasn't in the mood to cook so I just ate a veggie sammich, did a lot of nothing until bedtime, and slept in until 6 am.
Today I will do some prepping. Sauteed greens and onion, steamed asparagus, punchy mustard vinaigrette, corn on the cob. That's all I'm making this week. Plan to keep it simple with smoothies, salads, cooked veggies and beans this week. Nothing complicated.
Yesterday's workout was awesome. I'm much less sore after workouts now than I was in the beginning. I need to add some strength at home on Thursdays so I'm getting in 3 strength days per week, and continue the treadmill in the mornings. That's enough for now and I'm seeing progress. The scale isn't really moving much (5 pounds so far) but my clothes are getting very baggy. I'm going to update measurements today to see where I am.
Off to do my prepping and then spend the rest of the day working. Soooooo much to do. At least I'm working from home and not going to the office.
Plan for today...
B - oats with berries, chia/flax, cinnamon
L - big ol' salad with chickpeas added
D - corn on the cob, cooked greens and asparagus, lentils

How's your doggo doing on the antibiotics, Mihani? Congrats on the awesome results with your workouts. That has to feel great!
Marilyn, I'm Canadian but my husband and I now live in the US. I know shipping can be an issue. I don't have any solutions (unless you live driving distance to the border), but I just wanted to commiserate.
I've been sorting through a massive amount of clothing the last few days. I have so many things that don't quite work or are the wrong size or color. I'm paring down and I'm going to strive to only purchase natural fabrics moving forward. So, that's mostly what I was up to this weekend!
Getting through the next few weeks with more walking to hopefully boost mood and creativity.0 -
