    Sweet Christmas gifs, Nanc!

You guys just can't catch a break at your office, can you Mihani. I hope that today is better (because that's what Mondays are known for, right?)

We had a nice visit with my SIL and met up with my in-laws for Thai food then back to their place for dessert and photos of their last 2 trips.

If I'm not too cold, I'll go for a smoothie for breakfast. I've got another pomegranate to prep before tonight's salad. This is the 3rd one now. Number two was even more work than I remembered. But, there are a lot of seeds in there and they last me quite a while. Dinner will be stir fry over quinoa.

First day of the latest Mary's Mini done. It is kind of amazing how filling potatoes are. Sure stops cravings in their tracks.

Glad you had a nice visit, Carla. Is it cold up there? We had an usually warm few days now it is cold again.

Still down my boss and one co-worker. Not looking good for tomorrow but we'll see.

Best get to work. Brought home a couple files to work on tonight.

Mornin' all... been having pains like ulcer for the past week so I did a water fast yesterday and that helped a lot. Will stick with very small portions of mashed potatoes and steamed green beans today, plus lots of water and green tea. The usual end of year pressure is worse than usual with the one gal sick. She has only worked 3 days this month and I'm worried about her, and also getting a little worried how I'm going to make it through the rest of this month and get everything done without her help. Nothing I can do but soldier on!

I just don't get how the load is always put on you, @Mihani ... who is not a partner. These guys are taking super advantage of you. It's been this way since I joined this group. Time for a serious talk, IMHO! Now, it's making you sick...the workload. That's just crazy!

    today's plan

    coffee with NP

Dentist's appointment at 8 (gosh, how I dread the dentist), so breakfast when I get back...frozen, folded Just Egg with salsa

cold, Japanese sweet potato snack with Lulu

roasted veg (onion, yellow squash, red bell pepper, carrots and campari tomatoes) with jasmine rice

    good question

    ninja creami

Our work potluck is Friday. I am taking the easy way out and using Trader Joe's vegetable fried rice...if I have the inclination, I will also make a salad.

Do try and make today delicious. Hope you feel better, @Mihani !

Update - I am doing much better but have an appointment with the kidney doctor next week for 'treatment options'. My doctor looked it up and said that results just came in - I know have an auto immune disease (enhanced because of having covid) which is attacking my kidneys thinking they are a foreign object. He said he thinks the kidney doctor will put me on a treatment that involves needles - he said it won't cure the problem but should slow the process down - will learn more next Tuesday.

As you can imagine due to all of this my food is a big concern. Absolutely no red meat but can have a little chicken 3x a week. But they told me best to be vegetarian - so glad I had started the McDougall program before all of this happened. But the big think is no salt what so ever. This makes it difficult if we should want to go out to eat as all restaurants salt everything. And even going out to friends for a meal - salt is added - so it is a challenge. Had a pot luck at our TOPS meeting yesterday (our Christmas party). The food look nice but I knew there was a lot of nice looking food I brought my own (the ladies expected me to do so) and I was quite happy eating food that I new was good for my health

As of Tuesday, I have looked at what I have lost so far for the year - exactly 20 pounds and 2 more weigh ins yet to go for the year. I am praying that I can lost another 2 - 2.6 pounds in those 2 weeks to get be to a nice number for the new year.

I agree with Nanc. It has been that way since I joined too. I've come and gone over the years but one thing is always true, Mihani is working too much and has all of the stress on her. Not to gang up on you, Mihani. We just see what is happening and want the best for you <3 Maybe time for a New Years resolution that involves letting go of some of those balls in the air and spiking them back to the boss.

Can't work out on the treadmill and have to go for very slow walks on even ground due to my stupid achilles tendon. This morning I joined Joe doing a Bob Harper yoga video. An all over body workout. Brutal. My arms are shaky just trying to type if I don't rest them on my desk! It is much harder to psych myself up for yoga.

today we're making red lentil cauli curry for dinner and i have some leftover millet for breakfast. I'll have some fruit in between.

Hope your dental visit goes well, Nanc! I hate going to the dentist.

Good dental report...thanks goodness. Next appointment in June after new knee 2/27/23. Very excited about that. About nine pounds to still go where I would be super happy...for the weight, yes...and smaller clothes, yes...but really for the rehab...so much easier.

My menu changed....making roasted veg right now and jasmine rice. The campari tomatoes make a delicious juice and flavor the rice so nicley.

Glad you got a pretty good report from the doctor, @Marilynsretired...keep at it. When you do go out to dinner, no big deal to be sure to let server know NO SALT. That is not an uncommon request these days. Congrats on the 20 pounds lost.

That's so sweet that you two exercised together, @Carla_wfpb , to Bob Harper. Did you choose him because how he came back so strong from heart attack? Great role model.

off to get the rice in the rice cooker...later, mates.

Well, in all reality I usually manage to get this way the end of the year. At least it has happened often enough I know what to do. Stick to white rice, apples and bananas, steamed broccoli, oats, green tea. Very small portions eaten every 2 or 3 hours. And tums. I am feeling remarkably better today and was able to get a good night of sleep last night.

But thank you gals for your concern and support. <3

Nanc, I love the japanese sweet potatoes. They are great just baked plain and I slice them up and eat them out of the fridge like cookies. The potluck sounds like fun.

Marilyn, I hope that the treatment will help. That is great you've lost 20 pounds! Bet you make your goal for the end of the year.

Carla, I haven't heard of Bob Harper. I'll have to look him up.

It is a very old Bob Harper video, originally on dvd. We have 2 yoga videos, and the P90X version is longer, more difficult, and repetitive. We like the BH one because you get a good sweat on plus lots of good stretches.

I haven't had success with weight loss so far this month. I am up and down the same 2 pounds. There's too much eating out with the holidays and treats here and there. Couple that with being unable to do my usual workouts and lack of sunlight hours and it is all adding up. I will be satisfied if I can get to the end of the month weighing what I weighed at the start.

We signed up for the Clean Food Dirty Girl recipe meal plans again. It has been 4 years. We still have tons of their meal plans around but with an active account, we can search for recipes, change portions , generate custom plans etc. The biggest benefit for us will be getting in a lot of variety.

We're picking up groceries tomorrow and batching all the meals on Saturday.
    2xvpzfphjke7.png

    Today:
coffee (usually forget to list it, but always have it!)
    smoothie or millet for breakfast
    fruit
    red lentil cauliflower curry

Mihani, I haven't been in this group that long, but I have to agree with the others - your workload is overwhelming! And I also agree it may be making you sick. I just hope you're able to have a productive talk with your boss(es) to ease the stress on you a little. <3
Magic, hope you have fun at your potluck. The one thing I miss since I've retired is the office parties :/. Glad your dentist appt. was a success!
@Marilynsretired, so glad to hear from you, and to hear that you're doing better. Congrats on the 20 pound loss this year!
Carla, sorry to hear about your achilles tendon - the yoga sounds like it was useful though.

I finally made the Spicy Tomato Red Lentil Kale soup today, yuummmm!
I had a doctor's appt. Monday and had routine blood work done. Everything looked good, except the potassium was a little high, so I think I'm going to put off the Mary's Mini for now. The doctor said she'd call if there was a problem so, since I haven't heard from her, I think I'll stop worrying about it. Of course I now have a number of servings of the Tomato Kale soup and also a few Pumpkin Black Bean Soup (with sweet potato and kale) servings left, all high potassium ingredients, LOL.
We finished up with our Weight Loss Challenge at the gym yesterday - over the 8 weeks I lost 14.1 pounds and 9.5 inches!! I'm especially happy about the 3.75 inches I lost off my waist :)

Carla, I like the CFDG recipes and website but I know I wouldn't follow through with making all the food so I have never signed up. The menu this week sounds great! I think I'll join you in being happy not to go up the scale between now and January even if it doesn't go down.

Wow, excellent results, Spring! Woohoo! Glad you liked that soup. It's a favorite. I really did hope this year would be better coming up on end of year since we hired more help, but with the one gal off over 2 weeks with the flu then a virus, it got ahead of me again. She finally got back in the office today. Maybe next year. LOL

I feel great today though. Two nights in a row of early to bed and sleeping well plus continuing to eat light and no coffee just green tea.

@Marilynsretired great job on your weight loss, keep up the good work. no salt at all is very tough. I know I have to work on reducing mine as well but to have none pretty much means only cooking for yourself. Hard at this time of year but you can do it. I will renew my efforts to reduce mine in solidarity with you.

3.75 inches off your waist and down 14 lbs?? That is fantastic, Spring!! Congrats. Really awesome results. You must be down a size or two as well. Always fun to fit back into smaller clothes.

I've just been invited to join Joe for our morning yoga, so I will post this for now and return.

Yoga kicked my butt. Having it done for the day feels great.

Mihani, I would not do the meal plans solo. It is a LOT of work with the 2 of us doing it together. It does make for a yummy and easy week rest of the week though once the prep is done. I can see how it works for people that come home from work tired and then just have to heat something up. Easier to avoid takeout or whatever because there's something that can be ready in a few minutes.

When we first started Clean Food Dirty Girl, we had to pick up so many specialty ingredients. Now years later, we had all of but one of the pantry goods on hand. Every single spice, nut, seed, and grain. The produce shop included 2 bunches of chard which we don't normally eat, a red cabbage, cilantro, mangos for a fresh salsa, and more greens than we'd normally pick up. Some decent variety there. (and all the usual items - onions, tomatoes, yams, etc)

Mornin' all! Been fighting with my laptop for a couple days but finally got things running again. Got the one co-worker back on Thursday although she's definitely not at 100% and now the other is sick and left early yesterday. I feel like that song... if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, la la la.

I just hope that I can avoid the germs running rampant. So far behind with only two weeks left in the year. So today is work work work and laundry here at home. Tomorrow I'll be in the office all day.

Carla, I love chard. The first time I had it not so much, thought it was bitter, but it grew on me. I use it a lot in soups, stir-fry, etc. Glad you and Joe are enjoying the yoga.

I'm probably going to be sticking to oats, wraps, fruit, steamer veggies, rice this week. No time to shop, cook or plan for anything else. I got some store-bought hummus which does have oil but I'll live with it for this week. A little hummus and a whole lot of lettuce in a whole wheat wrap makes easy lunches.

Stuff IS going around, that's for sure. There is an extra chair up at my desk...I removed it ... I don't want anyone that close to me. I am taking the mykind Elderberry gummies and drinking Ginger/Lemon tea and some kind of green tea with pomegranate ...all day. So, good luck @Mihani ...the battle is real, that's for sure.

potluck was nice. ZERO vegan options except for the veg rice dish I brought and a store-bought veg tray someone else brought. I had brought my own food, so I did not starve.

The gal I share receptionist duties with...she made a pasta salad. LOL cheese tortellini is the pasta she went with. How thoughtful. Actually, I really don't care. Just mentioning it because we really have to look out for ourselves. No matter where I go, family or friend outings, I bring my own food...and usually enough to share.

    today's menu

    coffee with np
    just egg folded with jam
    romaine salad
baked potato with steam-ables bird's eye
ninja creami (now, I make one for Lulu ...banana, strawberries, 1 T peanut butter)...will post pictures later.

    do make today delish, everyone!

Aww, I bet Lulu loves her creami!

We batch cooked this morning for the meal plan I posted last time. It took the 2 of us 2.5 hours to batch the meals for the week. That includes prep (cleaning and chopping veggies), cooking, and cleanup. There will be a few things to make fresh on any given day. We cooked for 4 so we can have it for lunch as well if we want or have leftovers to freeze.

Although we're very familiar with this way of cooking, when you do an entirely new meal plan every week, ALL of the recipes are unknown. That definitely slows things down, but mostly we just want to be inspired and try some new meals. We have the meal plans for 3 months and after that we will probably cancel for a while and go back through the best ones.

The tridemic is a problem in our area too. In the paper they are urging people to mask up in indoor spaces. I am a bit worried about going to my brother's place for Christmas. He works around other people and of course their kids go to school and hang out with friends.

Mihani, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that your next year at work gets better!
Carla, your post reminded me to try on some formerly very tight clothes and woohoo! One pair of shorts and one pair of cropped pants now fit well enough that I can comfortably wear them for a whole day, and two golf skirts are now loose enough that I can actually play golf in them. Now if the weather would just warm up enough to get back to my golf game. I love shopping in my closet and dresser and finding things that fit :D .
Your menu sounds yummy, congrats on getting all of the work done so you can enjoy all of of those delicious meals.
Magic, I hope the gummies and tea help to keep you healthy. I haven't been around anyone sick (at least that I know of) so I'm hoping that continues through the rest of this flu/everything-else season.

Nanc, I'm with you. Have been doing a shot of airborne almost every day. I should re-read Dr. Fuhrman's Super Immunity. If I recall that was my favorite of his books after the original Eat to Live.

Glad you had fun at your potluck. I actually like that nobody thinks to send vegan goodies to the office. We get inundated with cookies and other treats at the office this time of year, but none of them are vegan so I'm not tempted.

Okay that is just too dang sweet and cute that you make dessert for Lulu.

Carla, I think 5 hours of cooking to get you through an entire week is pretty reasonable. I know if I cook nightly I'm looking at anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to prep, cook, clean up so it would be about the same amount of time overall but I don't have time or energy during the week to do that every night.

The fried rice looks so pretty!

Yay for shopping in the closet, Spring! I love wearing all the clothes that I started fitting into after I joined the gym. I got rid of all my bigger stuff to keep me from getting complacent.

I have never played golf, but I have often thought of at least going to a driving range and see how I do.

Got a few things off my plate yesterday and going to continue working here at home today. I get distracted by all the other stuff on my desk when I am in the office and there are several files that I need to finish that require undivided attention.

The one co-worker who was sick Friday tested negative for Covid so that's a relief. Sure hope we can have everyone in the office working all next week.

Spring, congrats on your smaller clothes fitting! What a great feeling.

Mihani, here's hoping that you are fully staffed at the office today. Do you guys do a holiday party of any kind? (not that you have time for it)

I forgot how good the meal plans taste. Last night we had the savory red beans topped with fresh chopped chard coated in an almond balsamic dressing, coconut basmati rice, and toasted nuts sprinkled on top. I'll add my pic but it does not do the meal justice. Each individual dish tastes good on its own, but it is when everything is layered together that it becomes a gourmet meal. If they would serve this at a local restaurant I'd be ecstatic.

    nvx1l1mr8gfx.jpg

We're supposed to be getting a load of snow this afternoon so we're going to try to do a quick run into town. I'm hoping to get a covid booster before we hang out with my family in Canada, and we need a few extra supplies from the grocery store in case we are stuck here for the week.

    Today:
    smoothie
    mandarin oranges
chili lime tofu w/ mango fried rice

Oh, that dish looks right up my alley, Carla! Yummmmm! I really should carve out some time to make nice meals now and then but it's a lot of work for one person so I mostly stick to one pot easy. Not that I don't enjoy the easy dishes but more complex flavors are so delicious.

We used to have a big fancy party every year with around 100 people in and out like an open house thing, catered food and a bar and all, but the boss gave that up some years ago. We do plan to do something just us but I'd as soon put it off until January and we can all go out after work after the first of the year and celebrate making it through another December. Our new gal is going on a trip next week through the first of the year anyway so it will work out better in January.

Hope you don't get too much snow!

Actually had everybody in the office today, working hard, getting stuff done. We had a quick meeting this morning just the girls as the boss was at a meeting out of the office, and went over what simply must be done before the end of the year and everyone is willing to dive in and help get these priorities knocked out. I really hope it's going to be quiet the next couple weeks so we can concentrate on what we need to do, but the calendar is full to bursting this week.

Just realized tomorrow is garbage collection day so I better get the trash together. Need to unload the dishwasher and make some potatoes too. Then bed... I'm exhausted.
