We were that close to the 2.5 million steps...and I'd bet we actually reached it but we were missing a few days from some of November's walkers...That's okay. We'll walk it off.5 -
Good evening WNM! Welcome to all the new ladies & gents!
I'm Melanie and I'm from Kansas. I’m the other team Co-captain. Truly, Ashley does most of the heavy lifting.
My (short version) story
I was always was skinny (no, not thin, skinny, all knees and elbows). At 18, I weighed between 110 and 120 at 5"6'. Maybe. I got away from my nutty family, met my husband, learned to be happy. Then I got fat. I found myself weighing in about 230 and my six sixteens were too small. I bought a couple pairs of 18 pants from the thrift store and joined MFP.
I lost ~70 pounds in about a year and was pretty pleased. But I wanted another 20 off...and it didn't move. And things got a bit crazy with my husband's family...so I decided to maintain for a bit. Instead of maintaining, I gained back most of the weight. So...now I'm here and working on losing 60 pounds (40 of the 50 I 'found' and the 20 I never lost).
My special snowflake challenges
I'm fairly significantly asthmatic (on meds all the time), have terrible allergies and connective tissue issues (not enough collagen, too stretchy, lots of joint slippage). The past year has been difficult for me because of the slippy joints—one of my shoulders slipped, refused to relocate and…well.
August 2020, I acquired some vertigo problems (or, maybe they just got worse). After adding some meds, adjusting my diet a bit, and stopping coffee (so sad), I’ve got it mostly under control, with only intermittent episodes. Needless to say, if I'm dizzy, I'm not walking or doing anything else. Positive: since my neurologist recommended I take 500 mg of ginger every day, I have only had one had a significant dizzy spell and only a couple 30 seconds-2-3 minute dizzy that passes.
The point behind saying this is not woe-is-me, it is that a lot of exercise people promote is bad (anything high impact), and sometimes dangerous, for me. Sometimes people get down on themselves because they don't do the stuff everyone talks about HIIT, Insanity, stair steppers, etc. I not only don't do those things, I shouldn't. But I should exercise.
I want to get about 30 minutes of walking a day at least during the week and because I have to walk to and from my car for work and all around the building to get to anyone I need to see or the ladies’, I usually get 15-20 by default. I try to get a walk in otherwise but frequently fail. Weekends are a mixed bag.
I want to congratulate all our losers for November! I am super proud of all of you! 😊 Welcome to the team newbies! I’ve sent friend requests to all of you (many have already added). Looking forward to getting to know you all!

December Week One - Friday Weigh Day
Previous Weight: 174 lbs
Current Weight: 171.6 lbs
Loss to Date: 62.4 lbs
I ate very little on Wednesday and Thursday due to a raging migraine, which led to my head in the toilet on and off for a day and a half. So, this loss isn't going to last. This loss was due to eating nothing but a sleeve of crackers and half a protein bar over the course of 48 hours. And being incredibly dehydrated, because I couldn't even keep water down.
Being sick on Wednesday and Thursday also wiped out my gym visits in the afternoons as well as my planned gym session this morning, so I am hoping to be back to regular activity by the weekend, but I am not rushing anything. Having Multiple Sclerosis is no joke.6 -

Ugh, since Thanksgiving I've been off with my eating and I'm having a hard time getting back on track.
I've also had some pain when getting up and moving so I've been getting maybe 5k steps a day. But it's starting to feel a bit better and I also have a walking pad coming in 6 days. It's like a treadmill, just smaller and lighter and easy to store. Going to have to work extra hard this week to get back on track3 -
I think I need to be excused this week...I've been on antibiotics for a week and everything is gross.
@minstrelofsarcasm so sorry to hear about the migraine. I know others with MS (great aunt had it before there were tx, too) and, yeah, no joke. Glad you're feeling better.
@Zumba_Luvah sorry to hear you are struggling. I've also had some pain (hips, lower back) when getting moving. For me, that usually means I need to do more core work and hip flexor exercises. I started them again Wed and now I'm sore. Do you know why your is? Does anything help? This walking pad sounds interesting.
I see some good losses this week and some solid maintains, well done! As we head for mire holidays, what sort of challenges do you have? What are some strategies that can help?
I don't have family, just my husband (and family of choice, though they all have other family), so holidays tend to remind me of what I don't have. Apparently I've become an emotional eater, so this means more snacking, easily available junk ('cuz, you know, holidays), time off, which gives me time to brood. 🙁 I have a ton of vacation I need to take (38.5 hours over my max of 240 and...earning more every 2 weeks...) or I lose it in June. But I need to have a plan for the time and I need to diengage from my phone. So, less phone, more projects, more moving, less junk. And maybe more time spent in what I do have (lovely husband, good friends, job I enjoy (Ashley, what happened after that job interview?), A decent home, Etc. That's a lot.4 -

Hi
I’m Rachel. Im current hitting close to 160 pounds. I have to start a better diet and exercise routine before this gets out of control. There’s no better time to start than now!
I know I can do it, because two years ago I weighed 198 and was able to get it down to 150 pounds in six months time.
I need to focus and zero in on my health and body. Exercise and dieting needs to be a priority for me. Otherwise my body weight tends to creep upwards.
2023 is right around the corner and my goal is to get back in shape and lose ten pounds or more by May.
I know I can do it if I put my mind to it!
Have a good weekend everyone.
