Hey @bobagurl2017 , me, @PlaneMonkey , and @ashleycarole86 I think all have Garmins as well
Here's my profile link if you want to add! I'd be happy to connect!
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/profile/1ffa5928-5ee1-4ac5-a2cf-30260558c0a6
Admittedly, I probably fall short of most of you with steps, but I like to think I make up for it with my other daily exercise (lifting daily, 15-30 min walk, yoga 3-4x/wk, and then HIIT and Pilates on alternating days to round it all out).
I'd also love to know more about personal experiences with Lumen from anyone who has tried it. I see that they have something for health professionals that has me intrigued. I'm going to have to read some peer-reviewed journal articles because if I remember correctly from school, this method is used more for checking diabetes status in regards to DKA, but Lumen says not to use if you have DM. Technically doubly-labeled water is the gold standard for measuring metabolic rate, but indirect calorimetry is the most commonly used one, although it's more involved and specific than Lumen. If the studies (preferably done through a non-affiliated third party and not Lumen themselves) can convince me, then I might think about incorporating it into practice with my patients. Right now though all of our docs are dishing out Ozempic like they're Oprah at Christmas which makes me scream into the void on a daily basis. However, I've talked to some of our med staff about not doing that and the Pharmacy supervisor has agreed to not fill the Rx's unless the person actually has DM. Getting back to the topic of lumen, however, if it's something that can facilitate my patients who actually want to make the lifestyle changes, I may consider looking into it for them. I'm just not a fan of IF or Keto, so if it promotes either of those, I'll probably pass. Sorry for the rant, but those of us in the nutrition field spend a lot of time trying to reeducate people who are confused by the constant barrage of information from unqualified people trying to sell things.3 -

This is exactly why I'm so careful with the professionals I work with. There are some great, really knowledgeable and experience unqualified people out there, but if you aren't lucky enough to find a good one, the time it takes for us to realise that actually they aren't decent can be hugely detrimental to our health.
I'm in a fortunate position that I can afford to see specialists in several areas. Experience shows me that I need a range of suitably qualified professionals and then my non-professional support time (family, friends, you lovely people) if I'm going to do this.
Oh to win the lottery and be able to focus on my health full time!3 -

Love the photo Ashley and Brad. @LoraineGB We have so much in common. Age, weight, set points. Moving.
My eyes still are not right. So looking at my screen is not great fun. I’m also so dry. We have that cold, cold air coming this weekend.
Looking forward to a loss this week.
Off to get some zzzzzs.
Micki.. what’s still going on with your eyes!??
I forget did the doctor just say it was an ocular migraine or something else?
Hi Diana, he said everything checks out fine. They are saying ocular migraine, but I definitely notice a blurriness in that eye since the event. I went back and told him that. Did some more tests. Said everything looks good, but my eyes are dry and he suggested eye drops over the counter. I don't know. I've had lots of headaches too, which is not normal for me. I think it's my brain trying hard to see through the blurry.2 -

I really need to drag my exercise bike out of the garage. I am getting no extra exercise. Just my day at work with 16 4 and 5 year olds. At lease I could ride while we watch tv like you @jugar. I also need to check my blood pressure. That will be my "No Zero" thing today.
Have a great one my friends!
@Gidgitgoescrzy I have Atomic Habits that I'm working on. Non-fiction though. Not sure if you were looking for fiction or any book.2 -
Some great losses the last few days - Great job @conleywoods @ashleycarole86, @DD265, @39flavours
Love the discussions this week and look forward to hearing more about the Lumen
As much as I was back in old habits last night snacking after dinner I didn't let that get me down about getting back up and drinking the water and walking the dog this morning. Fresh air seems to give me some clarity about moving forward not dwelling on the past
I'm excited for the weekend as we have a winter festival that's a block from our house. There's a load of light displays through the creek and it's magical walking at night. Will be going with the family getting our exercise outside.3 -
Oh to win the lottery and be able to focus on my health full time!
THIS!!!! Wouldn't that be a dream?? I've had a crap day with work (mostly not focusing on the actual work or accomplishing ANYTHING) and it would be so wonderful for it all to melt away with the millions on a lotto win to focus on health, self-care, and (for me) rescuing cats. Ohh, and playing hockey. That's up there too.
@jugar are you getting the wind along with the deep freeze? ours has already begun. we will be hunkered down until Sunday hoping the power stays on and nothing freezes solid!
I found myself emotionally snacking this afternoon. I reined it in, and did my plank challenge to compensate but I haven't been drinking my water. That's supposed to be the easiest box to check off on my habit tracker. better get on it!!
I'm mostly upset these days over things that aren't within my control, so I should focus more on being diligent with those things that ARE. THAT would be my self-care.

@PlaneMonkey That is so exciting you are in a smaller size! Congrats that is really exciting. You guys don't have Target in Canada!!!😳😳😳 I seriously love Target. When I'm stressed at work I have a few places I go on my lunch break to recharge: the greenhouse, the pet store to admire baby guinea pigs or Target!
We used to have Target but it was short lived and didn't survive (I think it was around 2013 it arrived then went bust within 2 years). It didn't have the same deals and products as the US stores so people didn't flock to it. It's a shame, because Target over the border is a worthwhile shopping trip.1 -
@Gidgitgoescrzy I have Atomic Habits that I'm working on. Non-fiction though. Not sure if you were looking for fiction or any book.
Micki
I have that, I bought it last year and read it. Which is why I rarely drink now.
Thank you for the suggestion.3 -
@bobagurl2017 Yes like @MoonlitMuse said I am a Garmin user and @bowens1973 is too.. always happy for any challenges!
@DD265 you are so right about the office getting us more steps than working from home.. I have to try so hard to get a reasonable amount of steps at home whereas just the process of being at the office adds a ton
Today we did a really cool zipline where we got to go Superman style on our bellies flying towards the Pacific ocean 80 storeys high at speeds of 60 miles per hour. It was a blast. Steps at almost at 10K again.. this trip has been easily 10-20K a day.. we are definitely staying active! I always bloat like crazy on trips.. the plane.. the sun.. and naturally the excess. I am not being a good little soldier of healthy living on this trip, clearly..
In moments like these where it would be easy to be really mad at myself I just remind myself that old me wouldn't have made any effort to be active, drink water, etc...
I wasn't where I wanted to be when I left so I'll have more work when I get home but for now I'll do the best I can.

@MoonlitMuse If you find any articles about lumen I would be interested. I really struggled to find much info out there. Obviously buying for myself is different than recommendations to clients. It does its measurements based off CO2 ratios. I am also not into keto at all. Lumen has you eating lower carbs if you wake up and have a carb burning score. I usually get a low carb day from them which is 75g of carbs. If you wake up in fat burning so many days in a row you get a boost day. I only got a boost day once and I believe the carbs were 125g-150g...I think. It sounds like people who are consistently in fat burning get the carb boost every 5 days. They do talk about intermittent fasting but it isn't required or for that matter built into the program. People who are interested in IF are supposed to check their levels a few times after the 12 hour mark. If you were in fat burning and then moved to carb burning without eating they say you over stressed your body and you are fasting too long. Fasting windows are individual and may change over time. I'm really happy to have my wellness coach helping me interpret this data. I think some people could find this data really overwhelming. You really need to be able to organize and analyze the data to draw conclusions specific to you. You don't just take measurements and it magical tells you everything. Lots of experimentation involved. Hope that helps!2

Stridekick looks promising. I just downloaded it3

Today went by in a series of distinct segments - it felt like 3-4 days! I actually got my strength workout done for the first time in ages. It felt good, and now I will build on that. No zero days! Food was less great today - I also had a snacky afternoon, but stuck with my no-alcohol run that I'm trying to do for the whole month.
@PlaneMonkey Yes! The wind really came in hard this afternoon, and we'll be in the deep freeze for the next couple of days too. I will try to go out snowshoeing anyhow - with plenty of layers on for sure. The woodstoves will be well employed.
Thanks for all the info about the Lumen. It is amazing how much it is possible to track I hope it helps those who need it and enjoy the high level of detail on how the body is working. Wow.
Garmin people getting together is also a great idea. I looked at Stridekick as well, @bobagurl2017 - that could be a fun way to connect across different trackers.
I'm having step count tracker rebellion this month, though. I get tired of it sometimes. I know how long and how much I need to exercise, what works foodwise - and sometimes counting it all up takes away from the pleasure. Other times it really works. Go figure! I just rebel from time to time, and then put it back on. So this month I won't be reporting steps et al @ashleycarole86
I will be sticking with the no zero days though! I am enjoying giving gifts to future me and thanking past me for the things from yesterday. I tried to give the gift of no cookies today, but I bought the cookies anyhow. And ate too many, of course. The rest are now in the freezer.
Ready or not, here comes Friday - those numbers are welcome!

@micki48 so sorry you are not feeling well lately! That makes things really difficult.
@cleaneater80 Nice job not letting the snacking in the evening spill over into the next day. I think starting over right away is a really helpful skill. Outside time definitely helps 😌
@Gidgitgoescrazy Nice work getting some exercise in and avoiding snacks! That is always amazing!
@jugar Glad you were able to get back to your strength work outs! Glad you were able to get the cookies in the freezer. I got into the cookies today too. Darn cookies!
I finally feel like working out again after a month. I really focused on sleep and stress reduction and I think it has paid off. Planning to get back to my workout schedule starting this weekend. Today wasn't the best for food. I picked up Olive Garden and ate all the carbs followed by more carbs. I even have dessert for hubby and I. Today is my splurge day for sure! Lunch was very healthy and sensible so I was able to have a no zero day.

My No Zero day was getting on my stationary bike amidst the boxes in my chilly garage. I was going to just do five minutes, but I ended up doing 15 for my future health. Glad I did. Also helped me feel less worked up after a disagreement with my daughter about taxes. 😂5
-
no zero days
Tons of fruit today including pineapple, orange, passionfruit, grapes, kiwi.
I also made a point of making a side salad as part of my lunch.5 -

Happy first Friday of February!
I knew I needed to make a change as the scale kept creeping up over the past few weeks. I did another TDEE calculator check and realized that I was basically eating at maintenance when I was eating back my exercise calories based on my original calorie goal that I set for myself. 🤦♀️
So this week, as I’ve logged my exercise, I’ve been changing the calories burned to 1, and that has really helped. I’ve also added more protein into my breakfast meal with a smoothie bowl, and that’s also helped me snack less throughout the day.
So far this week for exercise, I’ve gone to group circuit class on Monday, a morning spin class on Tuesday, and did pilates at home on Wednesday.
Today, since it’s going to be -6 F tonight, I’m going to do a GrowwithJo Cardio workout before we get pizza for takeout. Tomorrow I’ve already signed up for another group circuit class, and yoga on Sunday morning.
I’ve been quiet on the chat because it’s a very busy time for work for me. I’ve got some projects that are going to be very time consuming over the next few weeks, and we’re closing on our home on the 13th. We also need to start packing at some point. One day at a time!
Hope everyone is having an awesome week!4 -

Yesterday was a good day, No exercise... But no snacks either... I made sugar scrub instead. I love it, I don't know why I stopped making it and using it.
I had to exfoliate because I am going to get a spray tan today, I've never had one, and being the pale, freckly person I am, I decided I would get a spray tan for the upcoming cruise. This is a test run to see how I like it, and how it wears with my typical day, lotions, etc.. I don't want to get on the boat and figure out that if my skin doesn't like it and it gets splotchy, or whatever could happen... LOL

That is so smart!! I would have never thought of a test run.
I forgot to weigh in this morning because I was too focused on bringing our outdoor kitty inside and sedating her so she will more calmly accept being an indoor cat for the next two days until the deep freeze abates. - 41°C with the windchill is more than I'm willing to let her live through in her unheated but insulated box on the porch. She rewarded my caring by pooping on the bed. 🤷🏼♀️ Ohh well.

@Gidgitgoescrzy I do like a spray tan; much healthier for your skin than the alternatives.
@PlaneMonkey typical cat. She won't show any gratitude, either, I'm sure!
I like the idea of no zero days. The other way I approach it is 'just one thing' that moves me in the direction of a goal, be it the treadmill, eating well, or a productive task. At the moment I have a couple of therapy-related books to read and I think see how a page a day feels. One on intuitive eating, one on self esteem and the other is on effective communication. I used to love reading, and often reading now feels like another chore to be ticked off the list. Hopefully it's not a case of 'I just turned 35 so Mills & Boon is now my thing'!
This is my afternoon off and I was looking forward to time at the allotment, but the guy valeting my car was late arriving and by the time he's done all the daylight will be gone, so I'm catching up on admin and jobs at home. I have some beautiful snowdrops in the conservatory to plant out, plus garlic and rhubarb. Looking forward to the better weather and lighter nights. I suppose I should take advantage of not being at the allotment much over the next few weeks to get other things done really4 -
@PlaneMonkey I'm a bit of a crazy cat lady (5 indoors and I take care of....quite a few outside). You should check out https://thekittytube.com/ . We bought two of these for the strays outside (we got them with extra insulation and the heating pads) since it gets chilly here as well. They absolutely love it and it helps me feel better knowing that they have a warm place to sleep.1

Happy Friday 😊 my piggie Winnie says have a great day. It's almost the weekend!!!

Aww love me some Winnie!!!
Today's no zero day accomplishment:
I hit up the hotel gym and used my Peloton app to do a 30 minute treadmill run. I don't have access to a treadmill at home but love the Peloton content so when I'm travelling I love to take advantage of the equipment.6 -
Hi Everyone
Have been trying to keep my calories down this week but seem stuck at around 1700. I feel better now that I am tracking my macros and hopefully will see a difference when I weigh myself on sunday! @IDebraK I hope you do well and can fit into the outfit for the wedding because it looks amazing4 -

I made a shelter in a large bin with 2" foam insulation and reflective heat blanket wrap which is filled with straw and lives under my outdoor dining set under a water and wind proof cover. I dragged kitty inside at 5am when it was - 24 without the wind and she wasn't cold to the touch, but she definitely wasn't as warm as she usually feels when she climbs out of her 'house'. She's been inside for 15 hours now, mildly sedated and she's adjusted great! No more crying at the door, she's been very cuddly and is really starting to appreciate soft beds and food and water on demand. I'm planning to keep her indoors until Sunday when it warms back up to 'manageable' temperatures.
I will check out that link once I'm on my computer. It would make me happier to have a heated pad for her if she insists to live outdoors.
