I swear I think I might be one of those people where less is more. It honestly seems that if I exercise too much, I don't lose anything, yet, if I only do it once or twice, I have good losses. So I think my idea of only focusing on food for this month will be good.
I did exercise this morning for 10 minutes. Cause I like the No Zero idea, but I have to remember that NOT having that snack is a win also, I think that is where some of my misconstrued ideas hurt me...
I finished my book last night, my goal for this year is to read atleast 2 books per month. So January was a check. February should be easy, I am even upping my goal to 3 for the month, because one of the books I want to read is kinda a thin one, and I don't like winter so it's a hibernation month for me. lol
Hope you have a great NO ZERO day !

PlaneMonkey wrote: »I like the 'no zero days' concept. My friends from hockey have started a plank challenge where we text each other and have to do a plank asap. It's definitely working for me. Every little effort will lead to improvement. I've moved up to 45 seconds and I'm going to keep increasing by 5 or 10 seconds each day as I can.
Monday I went to the office and stopped at Costco on the way home. They had a bunch of office friendly attire on clearance so I went a bit nuts. I will be trying it all on later with fingers crossed that the smaller size I picked is my real size! The inconsistencies across brands makes it hard to shop when there's no change rooms!
I love Costcos clothes, and their returns make it so easy, they have these work pants called Hilary Radley Pull on pants ( not the ankle ones)- They are SOOOOO nice, and they hold up so well.. They are my favorite, and even when not on sale for 20 dollars they are a good deal. They make your butt look good too ! So how did everything work out ?
And yes you asked earlier, I do use stickers, but since I haven't been consistent with exercising, I haven't done it. I need to start doing it for staying within my goal food wise though, and maybe my evening reading, I am also trying really hard to limit social media, I'd like to get home from work and lock my phone away, so I am not tempted. LOL - sounds drastic but dang it, I think that's what it's going to take...3 -

Anyway, Hi. I'm Vikki - 51 live in Baltimore, MD with my husband, I have struggled with my weight for forever. I have 49 days until a cruise, I would LOVE to lose 10lbs in that 7 weeks, but I don't think it is going to happen, so I am just hoping to be in a better mood by then....
Hey Vikki,
I'm sorry you're having a rough go at the moment. I'm pretty sure you can be in a better mood AND lighter before your trip! I'm committing to logging everything this week. I don't always and I KNOW that will be key. Good luck, we're rooting for you!
Thank you ! Yes, I don't know why I am in such a mood, I talked to my dr and she wants to do some hormone, thyroid tests so we shall see what comes of it.
I think a lot of it might be the time of year, it's cold, yucky, dark, granted I am not a fan of heat and humidity either, but those mid 70's, sunny, breezy days are what keep me looking forward to something...

no zero days
Yesterday i:
Tried a new activity (horseback riding) As some of you may recall, I've always wanted to try. When I was first losing weight it was one of my goal activities when I got down to a weight I felt comfortable at. Bucket list item - check
I also joined a rec bike tour they were hosting jn the afternoon and did some light pedaling for 30 minutes.

@conleywoods I haven’t heard of lumen so I looked it up. Can I ask a few questions about it? How long have you been using it, would you recommend it?

Happy Wednesday!
It feels great to be home and to have time to catch up with everyone. It is very cold here this morning, but I'm looking forward to snowshoeing in the sunshine later. I'm a bit jealous of you riding horses on the beach, though @ashleycarole86 and @bowens1973 ! I hope you're not too sore afterwardsDianaGetsFit512 wrote: »No zero day
Right before bed I looked at the floor and told myself I could do some last minute crunches
Did 3 sets of 12 😃
I love that you looked at the floor and then gave your future self some ab building! WTG
I have been reading more on the site where "no zero days" comes from. I love the concept of our 3 selves: past self, present self, and future self. Sometimes you just have to make present self give a gift to future self even if it means getting up off the couch or putting that snack back in the box. We always get to be grateful to past self that way, even if it is something tiny. Every day has at least one action that contributes to the health or fitness of our future self. Here is the site if you want to check it out - but language warning! Plenty of salty flavours in there

Team Mission Slimpossible is where I found this, so if ever you want to go over and see how they are doing it, go for it!2 -
Signed up at a new gym yesterday! It's closer and easier to get to, not as big, new, or clean as the Y but decided I needed to hit the Easy Button so I will actually workout. Did 45 of cardio and some abs work. Will go back Thursday evening.
Logged everything yesterday!7 -
@LoraineGB I have had my lumen for a month now. I'm really just getting use to it and would want at least 3 months use before I really say yes or no to getting one. With that said, I think this is going to be a really awesome thing for me and I'm excited about it. I am under the impression that it will take several months of use to figure out your personal trends and reactions to food, exercise, meal timing and sleep. It's a lot of information to sort through. I also have a lot of new ideas for diet and exercise and haven't totally settled on an approach. Once I get myself settled, I'll get much better feedback from my lumen. I already get good information like: it only takes a 20 minute HIIT workout to get me to fat burning if I wake up burning carbs, eating past 6:30 isn't helpful to me and stress ruins everything!
I have been trying for a very long time and I have only managed to keep 20lbs off. I have had long periods of being very compliant and I just don't get the results I want. When I do get lower, like 214 lbs. I can't maintain it unless I eat under 1,000 calories even if I got to that weight eating more calories. My body just won't stay. Obviously something more is going on and I hope lumen helps me figure it out.5 -

It's a small gain, but I am glad it wasn't more with my parents visiting. They tend to want to eat at all the local places they don't have in RI and boy do they have a sweet tooth!
@Gidgitgoescrzy I think the same thing about my phone use and social media. A lot of my friends aren't posting as much, so I have definitely decreased my time on it. My trouble is laying down in bed at night and scrolling! I know it's not good for sleep, but I enjoy it!
I recently heard something called "revenge bedtime procrastination." It basically is like you are so busy during the day (work, kids, etc) that at night you get on your phone (or read or other activity) for downtime and to relax even though you know it keeps you up later and you will be tired the next day. That is partly why I do it, but they say to carve out a few minutes here and there during your day for self care and it will help.3 -
@conleywoods Thank you for the info. I’m very intrigued by it so will be looking forward to see how it works out for you over the coming months.
I totally understand about your body hanging around the 214 mark and not wanting to budge. It seems that I bounce up to around 210 - 220 every three years or so 🤷🏼♀️. I need to stop the cycle.2 -
@conleywoods
That lumen thing sounds so interesting! I can’t believe I had never heard about it!
Looking forward to seeing your results. I too get stuck at a weight.. right now it’s around 219-222 .. for many years it was 196-200
As women, I feel like there are so many factors that play into our weight loss that it’s so hard to do it all and know what actually helps and not.2 -
@Gidgitgoescrzy I'm the smaller size I hoped I'd be, but all the pants are too short! They will be ok for summer, but not for the rest of winter. If I wasn't so tall I could fake it and wear pretty shoes and no one would say anything, but they're at least an inch too short so I look like a kid who's grown out of their clothes. Not the office look I was going for! But I did find a nice flowy top and I easily fit into a medium. That is unheard of in my life. I was 5'2" and a size 10 at 10 years old and havent been back to that size since! Costco is so easy to return stuff, it is definitely my go to. That and Giant Tiger which is probably the closest thing Canada has to a Target. I don't want to spend big money on office clothes in what could end up being a transient size. Plus if my Chief can show up in jeans and a golf shirt, so can I!!
@lauren_989 revenge bedtime procrastination sounds like a good name for it. I'm definitely a... Victim? Subscriber? Practitioner? I'm there! Scrolling instead of sleeping is a problem for me. And. I. Love. Sleep. 10 hours per day is my preference. With the scrolling I'm probably losing over an hour per day of REM sleep.
@LoraineGB I find I have two set points, my lower one at 190 and I seem to always creep back up to 240 before I wake myself up to swing back down. Highest I've swung up was 260 and lowest was 180 but I've spent the majority of the last 20 years at either of those set points, with not much time spent in between. So strange how the body will cycle.
I've been exercising way more than normal but also tracking all my food. I'm eating over the calorie goal I set, but not by too much, especially as I don't calculate in my exercise calories. Mostly because I don't trust my Garmin. I will earn a badge for hitting a step goal from driving on a bumpy country road. Doesnt really give me confidence in the accuracy of the data. I'd love to find a fitness tracker that would track my hockey properly but I think the only option would be a full-on smart watch and that's a bit out of my league at the moment. If I keep ticking off my habit tracker I will earn a 'reward' and if I make it down 10lbs maybe I could reconsider.... 🤔😏

It was so good to be back home today, eating the normal foods I like to eat, getting some snowshoeing and other moving around done. No revenge bedtime procrastination needed! And I think my future self will be happy with the no zero day.

Good reading all the posts. I’ve been logging under. My weight is down but up a tiny bit from my low as I have been able to eat again.
Love the photo Ashley and Brad. @LoraineGB We have so much in common. Age, weight, set points. Moving.
My eyes still are not right. So looking at my screen is not great fun. I’m also so dry. We have that cold, cold air coming this weekend.
Looking forward to a loss this week.
Off to get some zzzzzs.4 -
@LoraineGB and @DianaGetsFit512 I had heard of lumen before but didn't really get what it was. It was just a youtube add that would get in the way of my Miss Fit and Nerdy videos! So I'd roll my eyes and skip them. My wellness coach has a group of us that are compliant but just aren't getting results so she was implementing some insulin resistance methods with us. That led to me reading the Obesity Code by Jason Fung. I was watching his youtube channel and he explained what lumen was and why he likes his clients to use it. That made me more interested so I gave ita try. The lumen Facebook definitely mentions the Obesity code book and I just started another book they mention often called the Keto Code by Steven Gundry. It isn't actually keto which is kind of confusing. Don't know if it will be helpful or not. I'm just really open to trying something new right now.
@ashleycarole86 You and Brad look like you are having such a great time! The horse Brad is on looks like the twin of my childhood horse, Dakota. I hope you guys have the best time and do some major relaxing 😌 💕 Keep the pictures coming!
@PlaneMonkey That is so exciting you are in a smaller size! Congrats that is really exciting. You guys don't have Target in Canada!!!😳😳😳 I seriously love Target. When I'm stressed at work I have a few places I go on my lunch break to recharge: the greenhouse, the pet store to admire baby guinea pigs or Target!5 -
So.. we got some Garmin users in our group? Perhaps we could arrange for a friendly step competition?
My son has a Fitbit, and I thought about getting one... but does that mean I have gotta wear both? Do I get credit for both? 😜

Hi all, I'm Katie, 35, living near Nottingham in the UK with my husband and our two cats. I gained weight in my early twenties after a number of lifestyle changes, and have been struggling to lose it since. Last year I recognised symptoms of binge eating disorder in myself and did a lot of work to overcome that, and now I'm working with a dietician to build a healthier relationship with food. The focus is not weight loss, but I was pleased to weigh in today and have lost 1.6kg since last week.
I no longer use MFP for tracking because of the focus on calories (strict dieting of any form is often a trigger for BED) and instead use an app from my dietician where I can just submit a photo of my plate. I do need to get better at entering it in the moment! My husband also bought me a treadmill last month, and I'm starting a virtual challenge in February so aiming to increase my walking. I try to do a minute a day at least - even if I've been lifting weights with my personal trainer - to build the habit. I find that because I work from home, I can get barely any steps through the day whereas at the office, and I don't know whether it's just because the kitchen/toilet is further away, it's much easier to get steps in.
My food-focus is on regular eating (no more than 4 hours between food intake, usually 3 meals and 3 snacks a day), balancing food groups (all food groups in a meal, 2 in a snack) and portion sizes for all of it. Easier said than done for sure. We're working on reducing my visceral fat, and if I recall correctly, having balanced food groups can help to reduce the GI of various items.
@jugar I think I'll come back to the regular team please - weigh in days Thursdays.

NO ZERO DAYS
It is a really simple idea. Every day, do one thing towards better health of any kind. One good food decision. One bit of exercise. One deep breathing session to calm down the stress. One little thing. No day can have zero of those. Of course, any day can have more than one! But at the end of the day, there has to be just one. I'll find the post in the other team to get more examples.
Let the team know what your one thing was. Try hard not to have a zero day, even if it is just 5 minutes stretching before bed, or saying no to a soda and drinking water instead. Whatever. I hope it helps relieve the stuck feeling, because that one is no fun at all.
Thank you, @jugar That is a fantastic idea!

I've been having lots of sugar cravings and fatigue lately. I know I need to be more active to boost my metabolism but can't find the energy or motivation.
Walking is my preferred exercise, I like to fit in a 2 hour walk where I can as I'm at home most of the time so often don't get many steps in. I'm a member of a nearby gym but haven't been able to talk myself into going for a long time as I really don't enjoy the environment in there and prefer to exercise outside, it's more interesting.
I seem to be losing a bit more slowly than in the past at the same weight. Maybe it's age? I have borderline underactive thyroid according to blood tests 1.5 years ago, maybe I should get retested.6 -

I worked hard this week. I was hungry a few times, as I am working to cut out my afternoon snacking. I hurt my shoulder on Tuesday. I think I pinched a nerve because the pain is going all the way down my arm to hand. It's not consistent, but I have limited mobility right now. The next 2 weeks are going to be hard. I have something ever single night!!! Ugh. I hate that.
Stridekick is still free. My friends and I use it because some of is have fitbits and some have applewatches.
@conleywoods I am excited to see if your lumen helps you to break through your weight loss plate.
@gigitgoescrzy nice loss!!! I also feel when I over workout, it backfires too. I know sometimes I end up eating more.
@ashleycarole86 looks like you all are having an amazing adventure and you are staying active. Enjoy.5 -

Yesterday was a good day, I even did some exercise when I got home before dinner was ready, it was some app I downloaded years ago, called Lose Belly fat, It was just some simple exercises that you do 3 rounds of.
I did not snack at all, I wanted popcorn, but started perusing books for my next read, and of course lost track of time, so it was too late... But I might have to switch books. This book was disturbing, and I am not sure I want to continue it... Got rave reviews, was a best seller, but it's dark and disturbing and yeah I don't know... It's called My Absolute Darling...
Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day !4 -
