    up 1.4

I was good but didnt track calories. That’s all I can figure. Thought I did well with eating, but evidently not. I know I only missed one day for exercise.

    Try harder this week.

i think I am just plain lazy. I like my limits and never push myself. That needs to change!

randi, I always think of you as full of motivation because I think you like exercise. Now that I hear you think you are lazy too, I am grateful for the company. 😂

Self Care Activity #1 - Choose a Mantra

    nc2hjy2xpmwa.jpg

We are back at to the beginning. Trying to develop new habits that serve us better than our old ones. I've been reading "Badass Habits" by Jen Sincero, and on day 1 of developing a new habit, she recommends choosing a mantra. Here's a bit about mantras from https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/home/leaving?allowTrusted=1&target=https%3A%2F%2Fsobrief.com%2Fbooks%2Fbadass-habits

You will experience whatever you believe. And you will believe whatever you repeatedly tell yourself is true.

Mantras reprogram your mind. Creating and consistently repeating a powerful mantra can help reshape your beliefs and reinforce your new identity. To craft an effective mantra:

*Identify your most limiting beliefs about the habit you want to change

*Write the opposite of these beliefs in positive, present-tense statements

*Combine and refine these statements into a short, emotionally charged phrase

*Repeat your mantra frequently, especially when facing challenges or doubts

Watch your words. Pay close attention to the language you use, both internally and externally. Replace negative self-talk and limiting phrases with empowering alternatives:

    *Instead of "I can't," say "I can"

*Replace "I wish" with "I am"

*Swap "I'm trying to" for "I do"

8Use "I excel at" instead of "I suck at"

Once you have settled on your mantra, begin to repeat it to yourself throughout the day, every day. Write it on a post-it note and place it where you will see it. I have chosen "I am fit and strong." as my mantra.

You can reinforce your mantra by incorporating it into meditation. Let's start with a short, two-minute meditation.

    • Find a comfortable place to sit, preferably in a chair with your feet on the ground, but you can do it sitting upright in bed. Remember your posture. You should be sitting up straight with your shoulders back and down.
    • Set a timer for 2 minutes.
    • As you breathe in through your nose, say to yourself "I am".
    • As you breathe out through your mouth, say to yourself "fit and strong".
    • Repeat until the timer goes off.
    • You may well get distracted. That's okay. Every time you are distracted, just start over with the next breath in.

This is an activity I posted in my 5% challenge group. I tried posting it here earlier this morning, but it kept disappearing!

    thank you!

What did you choose for your mantra? Do you think “I love to exercise” would make me quit hating it?

My daughter is a psychologist. She calls this positive affirmation. When she was pregnant with twins after a difficult first pregnancy and premature baby, she used this to carry her babies full term with no problems and a natural delivery. I am a believer!

I choose "I am fit and strong." as my mantra because that is what I want to be. I am hoping my actions will align with that. I am a believer, too. Your mind tells you so much negative garbage. I guess we should stop calling ourselves lazy.😂

    i am down 2pounds!!!

I contribute this to the power of chasing a two year old boy plus his six year old sister for three days last week.

My positive affirmation note on the mirror this week:

“I am eating better, getting stronger, and my A1C is going down.”

i miss my garden since we downsized, but it is only a mile to the farmers market and I can walk there.

Three things I am grateful for is hard to narrow down because I have hundreds to choose from 😊

i am changing my goal. Instead of losing 30 pounds, I want to loose my belly and be fit and strong. I hope to quit obsessing over the scale.

I agree Cat. The number on the scale can vary so much just because of salt, water, or carb intake. All the matters is strength and cardio fitness.

not sure why it took me 72 years to realize the scale is the wrong focus
