HOW IT ALL WORKS: The Septemberchallenge runs for 4 weeks, from September 3 - 30. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or are moved to the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

Welcome to September 2023!
This is our home for the month, where all of our joys and challenges take place. Please (re)introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month and the new year. Focus on the small every day choices, and you will get where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @ashleycarole86. I live in rural Québec, and I'm a retired university professor of music. It was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise. As of October 2022, I hit 10 years on maintenance, always refining and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and some who might be working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. You can see how your teammates are doing too The link and how-to info are under "Announcements" on the main F2F page. Or just jump to it here:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10898549/habit-tracker-september-2023#latest
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. Let the chatting roll!1 -
September, and spring has sprung here in Queensland, Australia. Actually, thanks to an unusually warm winter my garden decided spring had arrived a couple of weeks ago. There is so much that needs doing. Three garden beds are overdue for refurbishment. The weeds are doing crazy and the compost bins need some serious sorting out. Other projects include refurbishing a garden bench that I disassembled in July, before my knee surgery, and sand back and seal the back stairs, handrails and deck balustrades which have been patiently awaiting attention for about 12 years!!
Tomorrow, Sunday, will be a good day to start on something... (the garden Always wins 😉)7 -
Hello everyone!
My name is Lauren and I am from Greensboro, North Carolina. I have been on this team for a while now and love the support!
I have been overweight/obese most of my adult life. I have done the yo-yo thing for a while and am now trying to work on my habits and make this a lifestyle change so I can stop this pattern. I have not done the best this past month, but I am looking forward to September.
Tomorrow, we head for a cruise out of NYC to Maine and Canada. I am so excited, but I do tend to overeat if food is available, free (technically I paid for the cruise but you know what I mean), and in my sight. The last cruise I went on I gained 10 pounds. I know most of it is just food and water weight. My goal for this month is to not let a week of bad eating affect the rest of the month when I get back home. I have my own habit tracker I printed out and put on my wall for when we get back.
I hope everyone has a great month!7 -
Greetings September people! I am Debra. I'm 50 years old. I live in Northwest Georgia (USA). It is trying to be fall-like here. This is my favorite time of the year, and I am hardly ever indoors. I work for Tractor Supply as a merchandiser Monday-Thursday. It's 10-hour shifts, and I travel between 12 stores. When I get home, I tend to my little hobby farm. We have chickens, ducks, turkeys, an emu, 4 goats, 6 dogs, 1 ferret, a pigeon, and 4 inside cats. We also feed the colony of feral cats outside.
Fridays are my grandbaby days. We play really hard! In August, one grand turned two, and another turned 4. Next month, I have one turning 3, and one turning 2 in January.
At my heaviest, I was 202 pounds. I'm 4'11" tall, and I could feel the strain that was putting on my joints. That was in 2010. I joined Weight Watchers then and lost down to 124 pounds. I kept that weight off for about 4 years. Then, life happened. I got divorced and things were not "good." I gained back to 160 pounds. I found this group, and I lost to about 125 with the support here.
Right now, I am yoyoing with 7 to 10 pounds. I hope to be near goal weight by the end of the year. I don't want to be too ambitious.
PREVIOUS WEIGHT ON 8/27: 136.3
CURRENT WEIGHT 9/2: 133
My actual goal is 128. I had my first child in 1994. That was my pre-pregnancy weight. I'll be happy there, but I like the insurance of those few extra pounds (in my head) so I put myself in a goal "range" of 122-128. All of the "calculators" say that I should be around 107 pounds. IDK. I don't feel like that is a reality for me.
I enjoy my time at the gym, road races, hiking trails, and obstacle races.
My personal goal for September is to be at 130 by the end of the month, check here more frequently, and get my yard in order for bonfire season. The latter is a CHORE!

Hi everyone. My name is Ashley and I'm 36 years old and live just outside Calgary, Alberta with my husband, our Maltese, our two cats, and my mother and her dog in the basement. We all work full time in downtown Calgary. For fun, we spend our summers at a trailer in the lake. I joined MFP again at an all-time high of 293 a few years ago and managed to lose 125+ pounds. A chunk of that has come back on over the last year and particularly since getting back from Brad's 50th birthday trip. I am still at the ~80 pounds lost mark but I definitely don't feel as soon as I did when I was my low weight and I'd like to get back there.
Unfortunately discipline-wise I seem to be struggling to stay consistent in the same way I was when I lost all the weight. So, there is a bit of a yo-yo effect going on, but the overall trend is up.
So, main goal is to stop any further gain, to get back in better bike shape for my next Gran Fondo in July of 2024, enjoy healthy hobbies like soccer and snowshoeing throughout the winter, limit alcohol intake, and track my food. I also try to hit 10K steps or equivalent on our step team, which I run.
We are on vacation Sep 7-13. Actually, the next month is pretty hectic overall. But we do things like take a day like yesterday to pop into Red Deer for an 8K walk on cross-country trails that are just beautiful to walk on in the summer. So I feel good that even if everything isn't perfect heath and fitness wise that we are still always finding ways to prioritize it.
All existing members of the step team will port over to September with their same step pledge, so if anyone needs to make any changes from August, just let me know.

I always wish when I get so close that I'd had the energy to go out there and get a few more! I did however slightly beat my total from the week before, so yay!
@lauren_989 Yes I thought it was neat we did the relay in a week that @MaddawgMadsen did in a day!
So far everyone that's posted for week 5 improved their steps over week 4... keep them coming in and let's see how we do!3 -
Hello everyone. My name is Lennie and I live in California. I'm retired with a husband and an 11-year-old Boxer. My husband and I love to travel. We love good food and good wine. That's how I ended up 169 lbs and I'm only 5'2". At my highest, I was 179 but I ultimately want to get down to 135. I need to work on good habits and figure out how to enjoy life but maintain my weight and health. I am a returning member to F2F and I look forward to hearing about everyone's journey to living your best life.
I've joined a local gym and my goal this month is to get there at least three times a week.4 -
See everyone in a week!5

Well done! Beautiful Augusts from @adrimango @littlemzkitty and @IDebraK Great examples for everyone to follow into September - reasonable losses, consistent results.
I'm going to have a bit of an all-over-the-place September, but will hopefully keep things on an even keel for food and exercise. I'm just about to put my daily commitments into the habit tracker - it really helps to have to check those off every night. They might be small things, but they build those feel-good feels. Anyone can use it - just go to our team tab, add your name to the list, and start checking stuff off -

Have a blast @lauren_989
I did that similar cruise about 10 years ago!! Such a great time
Enjoy the sights1 -
I definitely think my healthy lifestyle focus right now has been on regaining my love of exercise. While this has been successful, it's definitely not "enough". However, I do find myself using the Peloton more, and I want to keep focusing on building that.
The food remains a wildcard, big days of celebratory eating and then days of being on track. My weight is up this month yet again and it's a bummer but I know I won't lose weight if I'm not honest with myself.
September is shaping up to be a zoo and I do have travel every month between now and year end BUT I need to start coming up with a better plan.
I know I keep coming here to say the same thing but the coming here is the main step... the second I don't come here... I fear the outcome
So thanks for patience about hearing me churn... I know I'm not in a focused place that I'll see real change but I guess damage control and weight regain minimization is the real goal for now and once I can get that stable I can look at additional steps.5 -
@CarolAnnM2 Fabulous weigh-in! You are in a new decade I know there have been ups and downs along the way, but you are doing great.
@ashleycarole86 Even though you are in one of those up times, don't forget how much progress you have made from the beginning - you weigh 83.2 pounds less than you did. Sure, you were lower a while back and some has come back, but you are doing the most important work. Staying with it. Keeping the exercise going. Knowing that the food element needs work. Preventing serious damage. You'll get back to the track - keep tweaking what you can. Hugs to you!3 -
My name is Chelsey, I am 34 years old, and I am married to a wonderful husband and we have a dog together (Cooper, he is a beagle mix and he’s now 7 years old). We live in New England where autumn is the absolute best. I’m biased, but I do think we have some of the best foliage ☺️to be seen. I am already thrilled by all the pumpkin and apple flavored things, and I can’t wait for crisp mornings and nights, warm tea, apple picking, pumpkin carving, hay rides, corn mazes, and flannel all the time.
I have already pre-planned my workout days for this week which is good because my family and in-laws are visiting this weekend to do some of the fun things happening in our area. Hope everyone has a good week!4 -
Thanks @jugar .. that's absolutely a valid point and something I need to remain focused on. Keeping 80+ pounds off for this long is a feat in itself. And I definitely have many good new habits that help me do that.
Air quality is so bad here! Lungs are hurting and it definitely impacted the quality of workouts the last couple days as we were at the trailer and non-outdoor options were limited.
Hope everyone has a great week ahead. We hit the road Thursday right after weigh-in!4 -
I hope everyone had a fabulous day! I had the best trail ride with Jasper this morning - he is getting so confident and we had both really strong canter and nice quiet ground-covering walk and trot. He is muscling up nicely so the hills and carrying a rider for longer periods of time are getting better and better. Then I had a pretty quiet day, but got good exercise in and really kept the eating on a good track. A perfect day One to keep in the back pocket when I need a reminder.
Speaking of reminders! It's that time of day again. Due through Tuesday:

Well, I had an interesting weekend. Went tubing on Sunday and got stuck in a strainer. Got myself mostly out, (Onto a limb, to try to pull my tube from the current.) Then my friend, got thrown into it, she was thrown off her tube and started to get sucked under the tubes, so I had to pull her out while straddling a tree limb, and trying not to lose our tubes. While all of this is happening, the cover got pulled off one of the tubes. That is the moment I knew we would be in trouble if we didn't get out, and quick. Those tube covers don't go on easily, and that water pulled it off like it was nothing. One of the tubes got away, so we had to complete the rapids with one tube, which means our legs took a beating.. our whole bodies got a beating, I have never been so completely sore in my entire life, every muscle I own was used fighting that thing... But that will heal, we made it out, and that was the important part. It was really scary.
Needless to say yesterday was spent on the couch with Ibuprofen, and a heating pad.
Still incredibly sore, so I am not sure how I feel about exercising this week...
Hi I'm Vikki, 52, Married, Baltimore MD. I have been fighting my weight for forever... I did well with the group back in 2019-2020 - But then new jobs, and just stuff happened, so I am back again.

Hi All
PW 170.0
CW 168.8
My name is Joann and I'm so glad it's September. August was a whirl wind and my whole routine was thrown off which makes September even more exciting. I love this time of year with the excitement of back to school and the routine that comes with it. I'm married and work full time as a Public Health nurse from Alberta. We have a 1 year old German Shephard and a 9 year old daughter who is starting grad 4 today. My focus this month is my habit of snacking in the evening. It's been one thing that throws me off entirely and a habit I know will set me in a direction of weight loss. If I don't snack at night, I know I'd sleep better and be able to get up to workout.
I'm starting a new Peleton fitness challenge next week and even though I've lost some of my fitness I'm not going to let it get me down.
@Gidgitgoescrzy - Wow glad you made it out but such a scary event - Not sure I would have lived to tell the tale6 -
PW: 183.6
CW: 180.4 ???
So, I started the 75 hard. Had a couple days of I'm over this when I hurt my ankle. But, realized I could still do it with a sore ankle as long as I modified my workouts. So, after a couple down days, I decided to pick it back up on Friday. I'm on day 5 and it's getting easier.
I know we are through August, but I wasn't able to get online until today. So here are my step counts and exercise even though they don't count towards September.
Sunday, 8/27: 5,362 steps - walking through airports after completing Hood to Coast
Monday, 8/28: 6,438 steps, league bowling
Tuesday, 8/29: 6,206 steps, 1 hour CrossFit
Wednesday, 8/30: 6,258 steps, league bowling
Thursday, 8/31: 4,671 steps
Friday, 9/1: 5,068 steps, 48 minutes spin, 1 hour CrossFit
Saturday, 9/2: 8,508 steps, 50 minutes spin, 2.2 mile walk
My name is Jolene. I am 38 years old and I live in SW Colorado with my husband and two dogs - a 50 lb rescue named Mia and a 100+ lb chocolate lab named Loki. Most days I call them Chaos and More Chaos. It is starting to feel a bit like fall. It was in the mid 40s when I went to CrossFit this morning! A couple months ago I hit my all-time high weight around 190lbs (I am only 5'3"). I could feel it in my joints, the lack of energy, hard breathing at the top of stairs, and I really didn't like what I saw in pictures or the mirror. So, I committed to myself by getting on MFP and joining this group. It really has been a life changer!
My goals are: weight - 135ish, steps - average of 6,000/day, workouts - 4+/week. For the last 5 days and the next 70, my goal is to commit to myself enough to stick with the 75 hard. I am doing the 75 hard with a coworker. Luckily, we have the same work conflicts at the same time, so we have already agreed that we can pause for a few days while out of town on a work trip. Normally, with the 75 hard if you miss a day, you have to start over. We are disregarding this rule for the work event.
@IDebraK - I am a little over 5’3” all of the “calculators” say I should be 115-120lbs. This is not realistic for me. My goal is somewhere between 130-140. Like you, I need a weight range. When I drop much below that 130, I look ill. People tend to ask me if I am eating. I know that is not what is good for me. So, kudos to you realizing the “calculators” aren’t always right and picking the correct goal for you.
@wishfuljune - I have never experienced fall in New England, but I imagine it is similar to fall in the southern part of the Rocky Mountains. The Aspen trees are gorgeous! So lucky that you get to experience that beauty in New England as well! Also, yes, yes, yes to all the amazing autumn things you mentioned. It is my favorite season by far.
Lastly, for the new people - welcome! You joined an awesome group! It definitely will help you with your goals.
