Good morning ETL'ers. I am up earlier this morning than yesterday. Already got in my mile on the treadmill, showered, having some coffee, then off to work. I'm meeting a friend for lunch today so I will only be staying until 12:30.

I am sore in my shoulders and chest from the workout on Thursday. I plan to go back to the gym on Tuesday and I should be fine by then.

Stopped at the store yesterday and got potatoes, frozen veggies, fruit, box lettuces. Going to get the potatoes cooked when I get home while I do laundry then do some more work here at home tonight. I will stop on the way home and get a couple items from the grab and go bar. I want to avoid the ones that have oil even though it's minimal, and hoping the broccoli salad is oil-free because that was my favorite of the ones I tried. I will check some of the others that I haven't tried yet too. A couple things I got were not for me and I wouldn't buy again, but there were several that I really liked.

Didn't really feel like Monday since I was in the office most of the weekend. Boss got delayed getting home so I have one more day to play catch up. Too bad for him, yay for me! I didn't sleep well last night so I'm going to bed extra early tonight and hopefully get a lot done tomorrow before he gets back.

Didn't treadmill this morning and need to do that before bedtime.

Had roasted potatoes and steam-fresh veggies today for breakfast and lunch. Doing a little Mary's Mini during the day. Veggie wrap for dinner. Later this week when I run out of potatoes I'll go pick up some stuff from the grab and go place.

Good luck with your last day of catch-up, Mihani. I'm glad you found a place for convenient ready-made meals when you need them. I'm a big fan of broccoli and I'm sure Id enjoy that broccoli salad.

Our meal plan contains some oil occasionally. If I had the choice, I'd opt for no oil, but it isn't a deal breaker for me.

We made our garbanzo bean curry for our home cooked meal night. I'm going to freeze the remainder for next time we have to make our own food.

My cousin is coming over for a visit today and we might go to Costco. I have never been in our local store and she usually shops in the Canadian one by her place. I have no idea if there's anything in there that I would want, and I'm a little scared of Christmas crowds (does that still happen?), but since I don't have an agenda, I can just follow along and check it out.

Oh and I got new dinnerware! My colorful plate set was getting pretty chipped and we were missing a few pieces. After all of that color, I opted for a neutral.

Well things are changing up somewhat at my house.

I have John McDougalls book re 12 day program = have used many of the recipes but have still had some turkey or chicken = gave up pork and beef. But my kidney function is going down and not looking good so things are changing as of today.

My husband and daughter will continue with having chicken but I am going to go plant based as of today. I am going to start by using the meal plan he outlines in this book - goes for 12 days - so that will help me get a start. I really like chicken but am going to push through this. Also I am not a big vegetable eater but with kidney problems you need to focus on vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and nuts. My husband is very encouraging and said he will help any way he can.

I will be seeing my regular doctor in one week and one thing I will talk to him about is plant based eating = he changed over to this way of eating 5 years ago so am hoping he will be able to give me some good ideas re the protein needed.

Here is what I have eaten so far and what I plan to eat

    Breakfast
    oatmeal with frozen blueberries
    small mandarin orange
1 slice bread toasted with 1 teaspoon butter

    Lunch
Caesar Salad with 2 - 3 oz cheddar cheese
1 slice bread toasted with 1 teaspoon butter
    small mandarin orange

    Dinner
Boiled potato - no more thatn 4 oz
vegetables consisting of carrots, green peppers, zucchini all stir fried
    Caesar Salad

I am not a picky eater but there are a lot of foods that I just don't lean to so am going to be on a learning curve to make sure I get in enough of the nutrients to stay healthy.

I am also going to start walking on my treadmill for 15 minutes per day with the goal of doing 30 minutes daily. I am 75 just about 76 and rather immoble (walk with a walker) so the treadmill works great. Hubby said 2x a week he wants to take me to the mall where I can get around with my walker and should I get tired he can push me on it. So plans are set up

Next Monday is our 40th anniversary - it is going to be interesting to have an anniversary meal without animal protein - but am going to do it. Also Christmas we usually have a large turkey with all the trimmings - so no turkey for me just the vegetables, salad, some potatoes and I have found in my McDougall book a dessert I think I might make for myself while the others eat all the pies.

Am also starting today to keep a record of daily blood pressure (important when you have kidney problems) along with weekly weigh ins and every morning testing for diabetes - am off all meds for that but want to make sure I keep it under control as it is another bad things for kidneys

Carla, love the new dishes! I tried to stop and get some grab and go tonight but they close at 7:00. I thought they were open until 8:00. It's going to be a rough couple weeks at work I didn't get out until 7:00 tonight!

Marilyn, hope your doc can help you with getting to a WFPB diet.

I have been eating mostly potatoes and steamed veggies the past couple days. I am almost out of prepared taters and really don't have time or inclination to cook this week so I hope I can get out early enough tomorrow to hit up the store with the grab and go bar.

Sorry I haven't been around...was going through some work stuff starting Friday...your coworkers are NOT your friends. I found out the hard way.

And then Monday night I came down with a horrible cough..stayed home yesterday. I tested for Covid, negative. Going in today, but probably will not stay the whole day. My desk is piling up.

Still coughing... a lot! So, once my supervisor sees me, she will probably send me home. Last night I was feeling a bit better so I told her I would be in. Then I got worse during the night.

Will try and catch up on the weekend. TC and bundle up!

Oh no, hope you feel better soon, Nanc! Take it easy and don't push too hard.

I am out of potatoes but I made it to the grab and go place and have soups, salads and a couple entrees that will get me through the weekend and then I can cook some more potatoes on Sunday. Main thing is to try to keep up healthy eating through the stress and craziness end of year at work.

Still getting my mile of concentrated walking every day, and averaging close to 7,000 steps per day. This is a huge improvement and I have not missed a day yet this month. My goal is to get it done every single day in December. Motivated to make it! Not sure whether I'll get to the gym the rest of this month. The pressure is really on, but it would be good for me to go too, so we'll see.

Ugh what a day. I was really stressed and tired to boot. I am going to bed early tonight. Was hoping to get to the gym tonight but I got out of the office late again (although not as late as the past couple days) and I am too tired to think straight so I am going to get some sleep.

I did manage to drop another pound this week. Yay!

Thank you, Mihani. Still out. (I went in for three hours on Wednesday and had to go home). Going to urgent care today at 9. Our potluck Christmas party is today...I will go by and drop off my last two gifts for my secret Santa girl...and some packaged vegan cookies.... I did not want to cook anything for two reasons: I'm sick and I don't feel well. LOL

It's mainly my throat. It is so raw from coughing...I didn't know what to do anymore to help myself so I am going in.

Stay warm, do not get a chill...stay away from people. LOL

    hugs, make it deelicious.

Sorry to hear that you are still sick, Nanc. Too bad about the timing with your Christmas party!

Mihani, it sounds like you are getting really worn out. I hope that things improve soon.

Awww Nanc... hope you get feeling better really soon. There is a LOT of crud going around. Seems like I talk to at least one person every day lately that has something from covid to colds.

You are kicking *kitten* on those workouts, Carla!

I had a long day, but went out after work first time since before Thanksgiving! Had one cocktail and just hung out for a while. Felt good to be out with friends.

Going to be in the office all day tomorrow. Sigh...

I hate the end of the year at work.

Oh no, Nanc...bad news about the infection. I'm glad you went to urgent care. I hope you are feeling better before Christmas.

This weekend we went to listen to Joe's dad perform in a local choir. It was enjoyable but we were in the balcony and it was hot up there, especially with masks on. I'm glad I brought them! It was super crowded and there were a number of people sniffling and coughing behind us.

I purchased a racquetball-like game for my VR headset. It is not exactly like any real racket sport. The size of the court is smaller, and for singles games, the court is half width. There are half-height 'walls' to bounce the ball off the sides. There are AI bots to learn and play against, or you can play with friends or randos. I am playing at the novice level and losing pretty regularly to the bot. And having lots of fun doing it!

    Plan for today:
    smoothie
    apple with nut butter
roasted sprouts bowl over black lentils with veggies and a tahini sauce

Hope you are taking it easy and feel better really soon, Nanc. *hugs*

Sounds like a fun evening out, Carla. Cool that you are finding more workouts to do.

Doing a very simple week of potatoes and veggies during the day, corn tortillas with lettuce and other veggies in the evening. Salsa or Good Foods for dressing/dip. Fruit. Busy at the office this week and next.

    I am back!

Long day of traveling from Amsterdam. 12+ hours.
The cruise was amazing. Fresh vegetables and fruit with every meal plus vegan and vegetarian options. I rediscovered how much I really enjoy oatmeal for breakfast with fruit and nuts.

We flew into Basel, Switzerland then to Strasbourg, France for 2 and a half days. Then to 3 places in Germany. The walking tours for 1-1&1/2 hours were just right. We walked 5-8 miles a day. Visited a lot of Xmas markets and drank way too much Hot Chocolate & Baileys or Gluvine (?) hot wine with spices. The last day in the Netherlands it was cold and raining. We started out with 20 people and ended up with 7. It was too cold. I would recommend Viking tours, esp. this Rhine River cruise. Children are not allowed. Hate to be a Scrooge but this made it less stressful. It is not the type of cruise you dress up. I took two pairs of black jeans and 4 different tops. Okay now flooding MFP with pics.
