HOW IT ALL WORKS: The January challenge runs for 5 weeks, from December 31 - February 3. F2F months always start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, so adjust your calendars!
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard.
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the first month of 2024 begin!!

Welcome to January 2024!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @ashleycarole86. I live in rural Québec, and I'm a retired university professor of music. It was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise. As of October, I hit 11 years on maintenance, always refining and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and some who might be working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time (but don't sweat it if you have to use a different day sometimes)! Put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, you can request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can be moved to the "Support Team" where you still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. You can see how your teammates are doing too The link and how-to info are under "Announcements" on the main F2F page, or click here:

So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live (if you're willing to share that), what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. We're going to get 2024 off to a good start together3 -
Happy New Year everyone!
My name is Lauren, I am 37 years old and live in North Carolina, USA. I have been overweight/obese most of my life and have been trying to lose weight off and on over the past many years.
I was successful at one point in 2012, but then had some health issues, cancer scares, and gained most of the weight back. Then lost a little again, and then gained back in one of my prior relationships.
Recently, I have been losing and gaining the same few pounds. Since April, I lost about 17 pounds, but gained a lot of water/food/fat over the last 2 weeks of December.
My goals for January are to focus on small habits. One goal is to track all my food and also to aim for 8 cups of water a day. I hope everyone has a great month!7 -
Happy New Year everyone ✨️
My name is Yinka and I live in Bewdley, a pretty little town in Worcestershire UK. I am 60 years old, married and we have a son and daughter-in-law who live in Virginia USA.
I am a business training consultant and part-time college lecturer, but mostly work from home.
I seem to have dropped the ball lately with my weight loss goals, but I am excited about 2024. I plan to have a dry January, further clean up my diet, log more consistently and reignite my walking.
Welcome to our newest members - this is a great team.

Greetings all! 2024 is here and boy do I need a reset year. 2023 kicked my butt, as seen in this graph:
But I'm coming for a redemption year this year. And it starts with intentionally setting habits in the habit tracker, which I've done:- 64 oz of water min
- 10K steps
- Peloton app min 3x/wk
- track every bite
- close diary under calorie limit
37 years old, living just outside Calgary, Alberta, Canada, with my husband and fellow teammate @bowens1973 , our Maltese Morgan, two cats, and my mother and her dog in the basement. We both work full time downtown in corporate Calgary in fairly high stress jobs.
I started at 293, lost to my target range of 160-165, maintained for way too short a time, and then started the climb again. I need to reverse that NOW before I lose all my progress.
I binge eat, have major anxiety that I'm in therapy for, and have always used food to soothe. On the plus side, I know a lot about nutrition, I like exercising, and my husband is my support system. However, we also love to enjoy food together, so this is something we need to learn to balance.
STEP TEAM! Yes, as @jugar said at the end of December, we need to reinject some energy into our team as counting for 3 of us isn't as epic as it could be.
So, who is with us? Your daily step pledge (remembering that intentional exercise minutes count as well and will be converted to steps) is all you need to get started. Every Sunday, post your steps for the Sun-Sat previously, and watch your progress on our leaderboard. If you're joining in January, your first update will be due January 7.

Hello all! I'm Adrianne, 46, living in Asheville, NC, US with my wife, 13 yr old daughter, a cat, and a dog. I started working from home in 2020 and since have really struggled to get into a routine to eat well and exercise. Both of my parents have heart and other health problems. My dad died Dec 2021 at age 64 and my mom's health continues to decline. I know eating well and moving are key to my own longevity and vitality. When I do those things, my weight stays in a certain range, I have more energy, less aches & pains, get sick less, etc. Weight is an easy measurement and it's creeping up! So, here, I am. I was a member for a couple of months in the Fall and enjoyed the group. Thanks for having me back. I have 15 lbs to lose. My challenge is creating routines that work in my work from home and recently started my own business life. I will weigh-in on Mondays.8

Great to have you back @adrimango
We have some brand new members for January as well so there will be a lot of getting to know one another going on!
Looking forward to enjoying the journey with all of you.4 -
@ashleycarole86 I think I will join the step team this month, my goal will be 5k per day for now, I am going to shoot for atleast 1 weekend day to be 10k also.
I will do my intro on Tuesday when I am at work and have an actual computer to type on.
Have a happy and safe New Years !8 -
I had to steal this idea from another team chat. @micaroo4 (one of our wonderful and successful maintainers!) posted this as a goal. I think it is brilliant:My goal for 2024 is a fun one: An Adventure Every Week. I wrote up some adventures on little pieces of paper, and divided them up as indoor adventures or outdoor adventures. Depending on the weather, I can decide from which container I will select my adventure. And, recognizing that there will be some weeks when I won't want to do the adventure, I made up a 3rd container with Chores. Not small chores, but big ones, like cleaning the oven, cleaning the refrigerator, shampooing carpets, decluttering closets and the like. If I don't want to do the adventure, then I have to do the chore. So I'll either be very adventurous in 2024, or I'll have a remarkably clean house!
OK - what would you put in an Adventure jar?8 -

Sunday: 8,435
Monday: 3,347
Tuesday: 3,374
Wednesday: 3,894 + 60 min body pump class
Thursday: 3,176
Friday: 4,593
Saturday: 6,170 + 60 min body pump class
Hit or miss steps this past week. I didn't get to do any 5k training with the sore throat I had. Hoping to get back to that this week. I did sign up for it, so the race is on March 23!
I have a quick question for everyone and don't remember if we discussed this before. Do you set rewards when you meet certain goals? Weight or doing your good habits so many days? What type of reward do you have? I'm thinking about setting something up like this to see if it helps keep me motivated.
I will say though, last night we ate out and I was a little over my calories for the day (very minimal and evened out from yesterday). It was later in the evening, I wasn't really hungry but looking for something to chew. I walked to the pantry for a snack, but saw the picture of me that made me look big. I didn't even open the pantry and just walked away! Got some water and called that a win!10 -
Happy end of 2023!
Sunday weigh-ins are due - already - following Yinka's lead
@zumbaforever
Off to do the tallies - I think we might have won last week's biggest gainer but we'll pull through!3 -
Hello all, my name is Sylvia, soon to be 55, in Massachusetts. Like many of you, have swung back and forth through the decades with my weight, hit my top weight at the end of 2019, found Waistaways in January 2020, got serious, tracked everything and did really well and reached my goal that year, but as others charts have shown, since then I've crept back to within 10 lb of my top weight. Grrrrrrrrr
Have been my parents caregiver for the past 7 years along with a full-time job, but much has changed in the last year and a half. Both my parents have died (We just threw a huge party for the two of them & I feel really good about it) and a major cancer scare for my brother has fortunately fizzled out, he'll be monitored for the next 5 years. So having said that, my stress level has been very reduced.
Now I have to form new habits with all this extra time I have, and no more excuses, The fridge, the cabinets and their contents are all mine now.
I know that logging my intake is the all important factor for success, and I'm joining a few of you and cutting out the alcohol (it sabotages me).
@ashleycarole86 pls add me to the step challenge, I'll shoot for 10,000/day..
Seeking input from you all on favorite online exercise videos.
I love that adventure jar idea!
Feeling positive about 2024.9 -
Hello friends. My name is Joann, I work full time as a Public Health nurse from Alberta and also have a 1 year old German Shephard and a 9 year old daughter with my husband. I must say that I've been so proud of myself with how I handled the holidays. My plan was to stay consistent and get my activity in which I followed through with. Goals for this month are to keep a consistency despite more stressors in the new year.
@jugar I'll ask to pass for weigh in this past week. Didn't get around to weighing in but will do on Monday8 -
Oh this is too funny! An adventure or a chore?! That's serious commitment! In my adventure jar I'd put: hiking at the local arboretum, working on a 1,000 piece puzzle, going to the local game Cafe, visiting the cat Cafe, trying a new coffee shop, visiting the downtown of a small town nearby, visiting a different library, going to the botanical gardens, and several hiking trails would be added too.I had to steal this idea from another team chat. My name was mentioned, so it beckoned me here. @adrimango, you have a cat cafe nearby? There's one near me, the Tipsy Tabby Cafe. Rescue cats from the shelter are in the cat room, where you can spend some cuddle time getting your cat-fix. Only problem is, reservations required for the cat room 🙄 But I'm glad that your post reminded me of it; it's going in the adventure jar! I have hikes, bicycling journeys, birding sites, volunteering at animal shelter, visiting museums, attending in-person classes, etc in my jars.11

Hello friends! My name is Michele. I’m 59 years old, married with two grown children and one beautiful granddaughter. I live in the Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania USA. I have been with Waistaways since February 2019. Wow! I’ve been fighting my weight for all of my adult life. Lost and gained. Hit Lifetime long ago with WW. I was doing pretty well here. Bounced around during the pandemic. Hit a VERY long plateau that I wish I was at now. Two moves, menopause, and going back to teaching full time has me almost back where I started. But I am determined to rid myself of my life’s chaos, find my stuff, and
focus on getting healthy for me again. It won’t be easy I know. I’m not looking for motivation this time (at least right now) I’m focusing on trying to be disciplined. (And I’m not a very disciplined person). If I commit to just doing my goals, I know motivation will follow. I will not beat myself up. I am human. I will do my best. My goals are pretty attainable.
• Be below 200 by 6/8 my 60th birthday.
• Log all of my food. This is 🔑
• Move my body 10 minutes a day 3-5 times a week. I’m starting from almost 0.
• Drink ample water 💦 64 ounces
• Hit 7,000 steps a day.
• Check in here. Support is necessary for success.
@ashleycarole86 Please put me back on the step team for 7,000 a day.
I am also feeling very positive about 2024! Happy New (you) Year!! 🎊🎉8
