Monday: Well, we all look like we are off to a good start. This week could be interesting, the Weatherman is saying we should have a big snowstorm at the end of the week. I was thinking we might have a little fun this week. I am assuming we all like to listen to something while we are walking, so let's share what we listen to. Every day let's post a song that you listen to while you are walking, something really keeps those steps going! Only rules: (1) a new different band every day, (2) be nice, if they are not your style but who knows maybe we will find something we would like to add to our playlists. Here, I'll start. Let me preface this with the thought that I am an unrepentant metalhead, so let's start of a little European Power Metal:

Battlebeast

    Wow! Great job everyone!

@LordWulfram total for me through the first 7 days = 92,428. I post the previous days total early in the morning, and did miss the first day (8,193)

@HollyStorm you're a beast! Keep up the great work!

My playlist is all over the place! Country and 80s/90s hairbands mostly. I have on my todo list to find some new music, so this is most welcome! Not sure how to insert the link, but how about some W.A.S.P. I Wanna Be Somebody. It has a great, hard downbeat to pound your feet.

    Totals for 1-8

    3,907,572 - 11,411 = 3,896,161 (total 103,839)

Here's to another week of accountability!

    Peoriapole: 3,910,420 - 13,633 = 3,896,787

I rarely listen to music while walking. Most of my steps are taking mini-walks at work and pacing around/working around the house. When I do listen to something, I normally will listen to Critical Role podcast.

I have varied taste in music. It's kind of mood-dependant. Yesterday I was in an 80s New Wave sort of mood and was listening to A Flock of Seagulls, Madness, Men at Work, Devo, The B52s, Wall of Voodoo, The Talking Heads, The Psychedelic Furs, etc. Here is one song that I listened to while stomping the pavement.

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=SECVGN4Bsgg&ab_channel=MenAtWorkVEVO

@LordWulfram , I wasn't familar with Battlebeast, but I liked that song. Definitely has a beat that would keep you moving. Is this where we should post our steps or will there be a separate thread for Week 2: Individual Steps?
@peoriapole , I've started to take a lot of mini walks too. I work from home and spend my entire day in front of a computer so I've started getting up every hour on the hour and looping a couple of blocks. Comes out right at 1,000 steps/.45 of a mile. Doing that racks up an extra 3ish miles a day. I get another 2 miles walking on my lunch break. I typically work from 6am - 2pm, though lately I've been starting at 5:30am to cover the mini walks, and I have plenty of afternoon left for more walking.

    HSC: 3,844,021 - 27,327 = 3,816-694 to go.

    (Completed 183,306)

@HollyStormCloud I just created the Daily Steps Discussion! Crashed last night and got up early today to get it done. Men at Work! Good choice for music. I have music from 80s myself, but about a decade ago a buddy turned me on to European Power/Synth Metal and I have loved finding all sorts of new bands. Here try SABATON and see what you think

@peoriapole I get about 6-8 thousand simply walking around school and my classroom all day, I then add a couple of power walks during the day (or right when I get home). Not much into podcasts, but I believe I have heard about Critical Role, that is the D&D podcast right? Don't tell me you also play??

@renae149 WASP, that is drawing deep into the "hairband" playlist. I have not listened to them in a while! I am afraid I grew up in a household with two parents who were serious Country fans, Dolly, Kenny, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys........ the only survivor on my playlist would be Charlie Daniels, but I can sing along with most of them.

Oh, and in case you missed it above....... My music selection for today is another Power Metal group, this time out of Sweden. If you are a history buff, you will like them. All of their songs are about historical events or people. This one is about the Polish Winged Hussars relieving Vienna, Austria in 1683

    Sabaton, Winged Hussars

My guilty pleasure for heavy metal bands is Baby Metal out of Japan. I came across them on Youtube and went down that rabbit hole. If you don't know them, look them up on Youtube and try HeaderBang for your introduction.

@LordWulfram Critical Role is a bunch of voice actors playing D&D. I have been listening to season 1 for the past couple of years, each podcast is 3-5 hours long, I'm on 109 of 115. They actually turned the first part of the campaign into a series on Netflix or Amazon, Vox Machina. I played back in the 80's, but I am too introverted to look for a group these days. I am about to try some of the older D&D games on Steam and GOG, I never had a computers powerful enough to play them.

Funny thing! Baby Metal just toured with Sabaton through Central Europe last year! Gimme Chocolate is one of my favorites...... but I imagine getting in good enough shape to RUN to it!

As for D&D been playing since '78 and still do but switched over the Pathfinder about 10 years ago. Trying to get a new group organized here, I have a new campaign all setup and ready to go.

You do know that if Holly comes back that she plays D&D, this will take coincidence into the realms of WEIRD.

So far we have 2 D&D playing, Geology Majors and if she plays, it will make it 3 out of 5 people.... that would be very weird, not in a bad way, just weird.

But alas, I am not a D&D player. I played a lot of video games in bars back in the day, but that's about it.

I too grew up in a house of Willie, Charlie, Dolly, Kenny, ect... MY absolute favorite band is Alabama (so tread lightly there! Hahaha!!) But, as opposite attract, I started dating a guy that did the hairband thing. And the rest, they say, is history.

My job keeps me moving most days. My 20K steps on Jan 2? Those were all from work. Then I get days like yesterday where I don't even break 8K. Will definitely need to start the walk around the block technic on those days!

Ok, I will tread lightly on the classic country! :-) Like I said, I know the words to many of their songs, just not on the playlist anymore.

I have the same issue with walking, as a teacher, sometimes we have more active days than others, I found a 10-minute walk during lunch and a 15-minute walk during my planning period usually adds about 3 K to the total which means a short walk at home and 12K.....

For today's addition to the playlist, going to go with a little classic metal:

    Metalica

I am making friends with the dreadmill again! I live outside of town, so walking right now can be iffy. Yesterday the temp wasn't bad, but the wind made it unbearable. I managed 1.34 miles last night. Temps aren't supposed to get above 15 for the next few days, so I need to make friends with it whether I like it or not!

And when I'm on the treadmill I like to watch something. Keeping with the music theme, I finished Jelly Roll: Save Me last night. Pretty inspirational.

    Steps for the 10th:

    3,884,359 - 15,553 = 3,868,806 (131,194 total)

@peoriapole Just checking in with you!

@HollyStormCloud totally missed your Men At Work! Great one!

Ok, when I am definitely in a particular mood, I resort to a little Viking Metal........

    Peyton Parrish

@renae149 I feel you, I am not looking forward to the weekend and getting in steps. The temperature is supposed to duck under freezing about mid-day tomorrow and spend the weekend in the high teens and low 20s. Mixed with some snow to start with, probably becoming ice later.

Have a great Thursday everyone! If I have not said it already, thanks for participating, it is really making sure I get out there!

Okay, don't judge too much here! You either love him or hate him. This song has a great beat, but I love the words. I have several of of his songs because of the motivational message in several of my playlists.

Stay warm! 27 here with a windchill of 19. And that's the high!

I walked without music yesterday so no song to post. We've been having weird winter here in The Burg. Yesterday it was 62°F, today we are supposed to hit 75°F, tomorrow back into the low 60s, Monday back into the 70s, and next Wenesday the extended forecast shows a high of 50°F and in the low 40s at night. It's sunny, it's rainy, it's sunny, it's rainy.....it's making me nuts. Saturday and Sunday have a low chance of rain so I'm hoping to be able to pull off a 30,000 step day on one of those days.

Stay warm and have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Yep, looks like a bundle-up-to-walk kinda weekend here in the Pacific Northwest! To keep things moving along briskly, I thought I would stick with the European Power Metal for music choice!

    Visions of Atlantis

On another front, I stepped on the scales for the first time this year and I have already lost 2.4 pounds since upping my activity level with this challenge!

I hope everyone has a great weekend, my happens to be a 3-dayer "MLK day on Monday"

@HollyStormCloud When it warms up, I so want to try and keep up with you! I am working towards a 10k that I signed up for in May.

@LordWulfram great job! I am also seeing results on the scale! Great feeling!

Here in the midwest it was 54 Thursday afternoon, 27 at midnight was the high on Friday, and right now (5am Saturday) it is 12 with a windchill of 4. Down right miserable just walking from the house to the car. I will be inside all weekend (only 2 for me...).

    Keep moving!

@LordWulfram , congrats on the weight loss! Way to go!

    @renae149 , brrrrr! I don't think I'd go outside either.

I'm getting ready to step out for some mileage and trying to decide if I need sleeves or not. It's 63 and overcast. Not dreadful, but with the breeze it feels a bit chilly. I'm just not a big fan of binding clothing and I have very few shirts with sleeves. I'm more of a tank top person.

    Stay warm everyone!

I will be hard pressed to get in 5k steps the next couple of days. I wrecked my back. If I get near the treadmill my wife will yell at me. I already got yelled at once this morning for emptying the dishwasher. Bright side though, she told me that she will take care of the laundry this weekend.

Dinner is taken care of tonight, our daughter is springing a new recipe on us, some type of pepperoni pull apart bread made in muffin tins.

    Have a great weekend!

@peoriapole , so sorry to hear about your back. I hope it improves quickly. Back pain is the worst.

It is only a little after 12 noon and I am just shy of 20,000 steps.....going after that 30,000 today. If I succeed I might cut myself a break tomorrow.

Listening to a little Flo Rida today.

@LordWulfram , I hope you are okay out there. I know you are Pacific Northwest, but not sure what part. I saw there were power outages in Oregon.
