HOW IT ALL WORKS: The July challenge runs for five weeks, from June 30 - August 3.
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get July on the road!

Hello Shape Shifters and a big welcome to all our new members ( @lolakinks @TashieB24 @kkay2345 @Selena280 ) for July! I hope you are all doing well.
I am one of the captains of the team together with Jessica. We take care of all the data such as your weigh ins and the steps. If you have any questions, let us know! I joined this team in August 2021 and I have found it a very valuable tool on my weight loss journey.
There are a lot of things being offered here; there is the step challenge, the habit tracker, the weekly challenges, your personal weigh in and of course the Shape Shifter group chat itself. The more you engage with the group, the more you will get out of it.
Don't hesistate to reach out when you are having a hard time, chances are you aren't the only one and everyone here is kind and supportive. I often see people feel bad about posting a gain, please don't! We are all aware that weight loss isn't linear. Sometimes the scale just does what it wants, even when you do everything right. So post it, shrug it off and keep going. As long as you put in the work, the results will come, promise. Remember that one day of overeating does not erase any progress!
I wish everyone a great July with lots of victories, big and small!

I would like to join the step challenge for July! My goal is going to be 10,000 steps a day. I either like to walk around my neighborhood or the treadmill so I can catch up on TV shows!3

FAQ for New Shape Shifters Members
How do I post my weigh in?
Userid
(Day of Week) Weigh-in
PW: 204 lbs (previous weight)
CW: 202 lbs (current weight)
LTD: 12 lbs (optional loss to date)
Where is the Weigh in stats spreadsheet?
Start at the Fat2Fit Main Page and under the header information, you’ll see a section at the bottom that says “TO ACCESS THE SPREADSHEETS FOR JANUARY CLICK HERE” followed by the link in blue. Once you click on that link, it will take you to the Summary page. Find Shape Shifters on the tabs at the bottom and click on that and that brings you to the stats page. Also on this page (scrolling down), you’ll find the Step Challenge chart as well. This is where we record your daily steps if you sign up to be part of the monthly step challenge. More info on how to sign up is below! Join us!
How often should I post in the chatroom?
Whenever you have a question, suggestion, story, news announcement or just want to brighten someone's day!! There's never too much...and please share recipes, tips, laughs, challenges, cartoons, pictures of your pets, pictures from walks you've taken, etc...we love it all!!
What if I have to be out of town during my weigh in?
Send a message to one of the Captains (JessicaKrall8 or Pupowl) in the chatroom or in a private message on MFP's mail and let her know your circumstance...if it's just for a week or two, you can be excused from the weigh-in. If you must leave for longer than a month, you may be moved to our support team until you return. When you're ready to come back, send another message and the MODS will move you back to active status.
What happens if I miss a weigh in?
If you're late, you'll be marked as LWI (late weigh in). If you fail to report in at all, you'll be labeled as NWI (no weigh in). After two NWIs, you're put on the drop list if no explanation has been provided. It's always best to let your Captain know what's going on and she'll make sure you're covered.
How do I sign up for the Step Challenge?
Send the Captains a message that you'd like to join, provide your daily step goal and tell her your favorite place to walk. It's that simple! Please be aware though, you're making a commitment to post your steps every 2-3 days, which helps the Captains keep the stats caught up. If you're not willing to do this, please do not sign up. (THANKS!!)
Do I have to re-register each month to remain part of Team Shape Shifters?
No, your membership will carry over month to month. The only place where this is NOT true is for the Step Challenge. You have to sign up each month to participate in it and this gives you the opportunity to adjust your daily step goal.
If I've missed anything or questions arise, just post them! We'll find the information you need as much as possible! Hope this helps!
Welcome!
Jessica

Hey Shape Shifters; I'm an empty nester, married 33 years; both me and my husband work remote from home; my son and daughter-in-law moved 4 houses down the street from us and are expecting their first baby - a girl in possibly at theendofJuly!; my youngest son lives in Atlanta,
GA with his fiancee - they are getting married in September destination wedding in CO - to be married on a mountain
My husband is Type 1 diabetic from his Stage 1 pancreatic cancer as they removed 2/3 of his pancreas 2 years ago in April. He is currently in remission from pancreatic cancer but has residual effects from chemo - neuropathy in both feet plus other nerve damage issues from herniated disk 11yrs ago
I'm also dealing with elder parents in assisted living3 -
Hi Shape Shifters. I'm 75, divorced, living alone in my home town in California's Central Valley. I have 3 siblings all of whom have offspring, but I have no children of my own. I enjoy a variety of music, and I play the acoustic guitar.
I exercise a lot but I'm quite sedentary otherwise. I currently do yoga, Pilates, Yang tai chi, strength training, swimming, cardio (mostly water aerobics), and walking. I'd like to start doing more running and mountain biking, and maybe pickleball.
I'm struggling with my weight these days after losing a good amount two years ago:
Max weight (7/10/2020): 330
Anniversary #1 weight (7/10/2021): 243 (lost 87 pounds first year)
Anniversary #2 weight (7/10/2022): 226 (lost 18 pounds second year)
Anniversary #3 weight (7/10/2023): 242 (gained 16 pounds third year)
Anniversary #4 weight (7/10/2024): ~257 (gained ~15.4 pounds fourth year)
Goal Weight: 220 ±5; Hopefully, I'll get there during year 5.

Okay, fellow Garmin users, it's time to join some July Challenges. You can find them all in Garmin Connect on the Challenges tab. These are the challenges I've joined:
Active July: Record 20 activities of at least 20 minutes each (this one's easy peasy)
July Step Month: Record 300,000 steps during the month (average ~10,000 steps/day)
July Time to Walk: Record 15 hours of walking (averaging ~½ hour/day)
July Gains: Record four hours of strength activities
July Warrior: Record 4 hours of yoga activities
July Time to Swim: Record 4 hours of swimming activities
July Swim: Record 4,000 meters of swimming (4 hours of swimming will easily exceed this)
2024 Walking Stage 3: Walk 91 miles during July thru September
I might try this one too:
July Weekend 10K: Complete a run of at least 10 kilometers July 12-14
There are more running and cycling challenges, but I'm not trying for those.
This website gives a good rundown, covering the monthly challenges as well as any special "holiday" badges that occur during the month (July has none of these).

Good morning Shape Shifters. Time for another intro!
My name is Laura, I am 36 and I live with my cat Tinus in a small village in the Netherlands. I got really lucky with the house I rent and I live very close to a national park with a second one 30 minutes biking away. I enjoy walking, taking photographs of nature (birds are my favorite), reading fantasy books, drinking obscene amounts of tea, singing, video games and jigsaw puzzles. I am a pretty visual person and I like sharing pictures in the group.
I struggle with some health problems that make weight loss and life in general a little challenging, but I try my best! June was a really bad month for me and I moved to support. I am having a really hard time getting back on track. Depression makes me not care about anything and during those bad periods, food is the only thing I get some pleasure from. I usually have a lot of habits to track, but I simply don't have the energy to do much so I am going to go very basic for July.- Get 8 hours of sleep
- Daily naturewalk. I don't care if it's only 30 minutes; I just need to go out in the morning.
- Eat in a deficit
Oct 2020 ~ 247.0 lbs -- Highest weight, started seriously to work on losing weight
Aug 2021 ~ 214.0 lbs -- Joined this group!
Jan 2022 ~ 195.3 lbs -- Lowest weight I got to, it didn't last long and I started gaining here. I started (and quit again) a medication a while before which really messed me up. I can't blame 9 months of over eating on it, but it for sure caused a lot of problems. Also, lockdown and gym closed.
Oct 2022 ~ 244.7 lbs -- Came back to the group from support having to start basically all over again.
Mar 2023 ~ 212.9 lbs -- Not sure why it went wrong here (Birthday stuff maybe), but started gaining again and I couldn't get it together
Sep 2023 ~ 238.0 lbs -- Came back to the group from support again. The gain was less this time, but still not pretty.
May 2024 ~ 183.4 -- New lowest weight. I was super happy about it and then depression hit and I struggled a lot to get back on track.
I haven't stepped on the scale since early June. I feel like I gained a lot of weight and I am too afraid to see what the number is.6 -

I've just been bouncing around with the same few pounds for the past 4+ months. I've been really out-of-sorts for a long while... just trying to keep my head above water. I will focus more this month on water, tracking and steps.
Best of luck to all of us for the month of July! Only 6 months left for 2024. I'm hoping to make the best of it... baby steps though, not all at once.4 -

Hello Shape Shifters! I’m looking forward to getting to know our new group members a bit better — welcome!
I’m Patrice — a soon-to-be 58 year old woman living in northern Virginia, just outside Washington, DC in the USA. I’ve been married for 34 years; my husband and I have two adult children, ages 22 and 23. They are both in college, living near their university campuses most of the year, but they visit during their holiday and summer breaks from school.
I’ve been using MFP since December 2019, and started tracking my calories more diligently during the early days of COVID, when public spaces closed. At the time, I led a very full life as a working mother with many community volunteer positions and responsibilities. Work was still busy because I started my own business around that time, and all my education and health clients needed to move from in-person service delivery to online learning and Telehealth. However, I eliminated most volunteer activities and concentrated on my health.
My weight had gradually increased over the years, and I had moved into the overweight BMI category at 168 pounds, so I was especially motivated to become healthier in case I caught the coronavirus. At the time there was no vaccine so a healthy weight was important to survival. I was able to move into the ‘normal’ BMI range by 2021 and joined the F2F challenge group in June 2021 at about 135 pounds. As expected, it was taking longer to lose the last 10 pounds as I moved closer to my goal. So, this group helped me stay accountable and gave me the encouragement I needed to reach my goal of 125 pounds — that was around the end of September 2021.
I maintained my target weight of 125-130 for a year but gradually started gaining pounds as I focused on improving other areas of my life — like decluttering/ downsizing now that we are getting closer to becoming ‘empty nesters’ and strengthening my new business. There’s still so much to learn about business development and navigating life transitions! Now, it’s been two years since I began straying from my target weight, and I have about 15 pounds to lose. My current goal is to lose 2 pounds by the end of July.
Slow and steady works best for me for long-term weight loss. It always helps me when I sleep well so I’ll concentrate on getting 7-8 hours of sleep, increasing my body weight exercises, and tracking my calories better. I’d like to row more but the coach had to change days so I’m going to rearrange my schedule to match the new days. It will take a little while until I can make the new day work. Best wishes with the new month, Shape Shifters. It’s a clean slate so let’s make it a good one.

Hello! This will be my last post to this group. I really enjoyed the discussion and the banter but ultimately I just don't love the MFP website; it's a little difficult for me to get used to. I wish everyone here the absolute best on their weight loss journey! I've lost about five pounds in the month I've been here, and I know having an active, supportive community helped significantly. Happy adventures!5 -

A quick intro as I recently returned to the group after taking a break. I'm Val, live in Canada and recently hit my highest weight ever. I also feel like I'm the most active I've ever been, and during my break I trained for and ran my first ever half marathon in May 2024. During that time I also ate ad libitum so not surprised I packed on the pounds.
I'm currently back on the bandwagon with basic food tracking and a calorie deficit, but of course I'm chasing the elusive "change my relationship with food" goal so I can ensure long term success. I'm an emotional eater, a binge-y eater, a secret-eat-in-my-car eater so I do alot of mental mindset work trying to figure out what can work for me. I don't post super often, but this is what I mostly talk about here on MFP and this chat. It really helps me to hear what others are going through and how you're changing your food habits. Wish you all much success!4 -
Monday ~ July 01
[ Sleep 8+ hours ] ~ 8h 19m / 83 score
[ Naturewalk ] ~ 70 minutes
[ <1400 cal ] ~ 1150
Musings of the day:
Today is the first day in almost a month that I feel a little lighter and more positive about life. I am not sure if it is because I have simplified my daily goals, or because it is a new week and a new month, or because the temperature dropped so I physically feel better. Either way, today was a good day. I slept well and started my day with a good walk. We had some rain and in some areas the grass was pretty tall so my legs got wet but I didn't mind.
I went to the grocery store after my walk and bought some carrots, mueslibars and vegan mexican burritos. I wasn't even tempted at all to buy anything bad/unhealthy. That is a huge deal since I haven't managed that a single time the past month. I also decided I will not be cooking for a while. With my low energy it is really hard and the warmer temperatures aren't helping. I am super happy I found that new vegan salad last week. It is fairly cheap, super tasty and the plastic container is big enough to actually stir properly which means less dishes since I don't need to move it to a bowl. This probably sounds really dumb, lol, but for me every little thing adds up. I am always happy when I find something that makes my life a little easier.
I have started making a real effort to stop talking to myself negatively. I can be really harsh and cruel with my thoughts which I know is not helpful at all. Instead I will repeat a few positive phrases when I start to notice myself becoming negative. This feels a little weird because it is hard to believe the positive things in those moments, but I am sure it will get better the more practice I get. Have a good day everyoneMy little positive list:- Today is going to be a good day
- I am kind to myself and others
- I am doing my best
- I believe in myself
- I deserve to be healthy and happy
6 -
The daily card:The next time you're having a conversation with someone, just listen. Too often, a so-called conversation is actually two monologues, with each person just waiting for the other to finish. There are a few things as generous as listening deeply to a friend-listening with your whole mind and whole body, receiving their words and thoughts with your complete presence.3
