Sorry you had a rough time Nanc, but it's over and once you get the results you can forget about it for a while. Yay for making juice.

Busy day and I want to get to bed super early so I can put in a long day tomorrow in preparation for taking 3 whole days off. I am going to get a few things done tonight and tomorrow night before the cleaning crew comes Friday. Did a little grocery shopping tonight and will do the big shop on Friday. Then Saturday all I should have to do is prep food and set up. Going to make a pot of chili Friday night and just reheat it in the crockpot so it can be out all day Saturday.

    B - ezekiel toast w/ tahini
L - sweet potato and steamed broccoli (switched it up to lunch today!)
D - a smoothie with plant based protein powder, baby spinach, frozen berries, water

Still having breathing trouble. Finally have an appointment this afternoon with my doctor. I haven't been able to walk because it has gotten worse, not better. Last night I woke up several times abruptly out of breath. Ugh. Wish me luck! I'll post an update later today or tomorrow.

Oh, and back to full meals through plantage starting next week. We haven't done well with half meals. We end up eating out or picking up convenience foods at the store. We will probably try again in a while when I am feeling better and have the energy.

Sorry about your difficult appointment, Nanc. I'm super happy that you got good results though.

Yikes, Carla. Please do let us known what the doc says. That's scary.

Had a rough day still battling this cold and felt like crap. Feeling a little better now. I wanted to get some stuff done around here tonight but I think I'd be best off just going to bed and get up early in the morning. I want to get some things done before the cleaning crew comes like laundry and move some party supplies to the garage so they are out of the way of the cleaners.

B - oats with all the usual goodies
    L - Dr. McD soup
D - ezekiel toast with tahini

Keep us posted, Carla...hope it's just a little something and nothing serious. And thank you for your sweet comment. You, too, Mihani, if I forgot to thank you.

Good luck with the party plans and hope the cold doesn't get in the way too too much, M!

    coffee
    just egg frozen with jam
    bean burrito
    NO tuna, tuna no bread
    two 16 oz, carrot/pineapple/apple juice
tea and low sugar vegan biscuits after work

Lights out...hoping for a good night's sleep. Later, sweet peas! Do make it delicious!

It turns out I'm having problems with asthma. It could be to do with mold or some other allergen that is in the crawl space, but I'm not sure. Since being an adult, I've never had asthma that isn't the result of already being sick with a cold or flu, or once in a blue moon, contact with mold.

I am taking prednisone which I've never had before, much to my doctor's surprise. Now that I've taken just one dose, I understand her surprise. It helps so much, and within the first few hours. Amazing. In the meantime, we're going to get pest control people under the house and see what they find. We are going to look for a company that will seal up any openings, take care of any rodent issues, and clean the ducts.

We have quite the laundry list of things that need attention at our place now. We need to have sod / turf put in the front yard because it turned to dirt and moss last year during a drought and never recovered. We are overdue for getting the exterior of the house painted, and the inside could use a full paint job too. We also need a new loveseat and couch badly as ours are embarrassing and flaking, and a new dining room set. The chairs in the dining area are also flaking, so in summer we are walking around with little brown flecks stuck to our skin.

Mihani, that is such lousy timing for your cold. I'm glad to hear that you are starting to feel better. Good luck with your prep and I hope you have a wonderful party tomorrow!

    Hi all,

Mihani, ugh…summer colds seem the worst.

Carla - I am sorry about the diagnosis of asthma but glad you are on a good course of treatment. We have 2 air purifiers by Blue Air purification. A big one for the downstairs and a small room one by Brooks’ bedside. This old house is full of dust and mold. We change the duct filters once a month.

Magic - Keeping fingers crossed for excellent report. Are you thinking a rescue or a puppy?

Ugh…the sorting, packing continues. Lots of expenses coming up.

So, The move has me stressed. Anyone watch Grimm? I turn into a Hexenbiest at the littlest thing. I am refusing to talk to both sisters as they are toxic. Maybe I am the toxic one but setting lots of boundaries to get through this. I have fallen into an excellent schedule. Walk dogs at 0800, Pickle ball MWF at 9:00, swim& yoga Tues and Thursday. Then everyday in hot afternoon I am inside sorting and packing. Lots of protein shakes, soups, salads and veggies with rice. More later. Dogs say woof woof. I gave away my 25 year old black leather couch to Jewish chaplain on base for the counseling room. 💕oxbheozkck3z.jpeg

Glad you got some answers and are feeling better with the prednisone, Carla. I have been on that many times. Usually for poison ivy because I am highly allergic to it and I break out all over and my eyes swell shut. But also often for my back until I finally had those steroid injections in my spine 10 or so years ago. I don't know if prednisone will affect you the same way, but just a warning, it made me ravenously hungry and massively b**chy. I had to really watch I didn't snap at everyone. On the bright side it gave me lots of energy so I got a lot done.

Bisky, that's so cool you are enjoying pickleball so much. I really need to find something I enjoy like that. I had to google Hexenbiest and that made me laugh. I think setting boundaries is very wise, especially during this stressful time.

Nanc, how did your juices turn out? Is it cooling off in AZ now that we're into September?

Yesterday was a big day of laundry and prep and grocery shopping. I got over 8,000 steps and over 60 zone minutes with all those trips up and down two flights of stairs. The cleaning crew did their usual wonderful job and the house looks fantastic.

It has been months since I've had coffee, and I bought some yesterday in case anyone wanted a cup at the party and decided to have a cup this morning. Instant headache and jitters. Ugh. I'm downing water now to try to counteract it. Weird how a body changes and what it can and can't tolerate.

Had an ezekiel english muffin with tahini for breakfast. No telling what all I'll eat today at the party, but it won't be too bad. I'll be so busy I won't have time to eat too much. I'll have a couple margaritas for sure.

    Off to get busy!

Hope the party was amazing...I can't imagine having that many people over and preparing food for all of them. Wow!

Juice was great...making a new batch today. Bought the carrots at Costco. Cheaper. 6 pounds for $4. Sprouts was 5 pounds for $5 and they looked awful. Also adding apples and pineapple.

Carla, glad you now know what you are dealing with and can take remedies for fixing the situation. Hope you continue to feel better.

BISKY! You're an iron WOMAN. Look at you go. All that exercise. I wish I was brave enough to play pickleball. But with my track record of getting injured in sports, I am not risking my two very beautiful knees.

YES! Mihani, it is cooling down...high 90s ...so easy to deal with...the fall/winter/spring is going to be super duper wonderful.

My sleep continues to be crappy. I need to exercise more and get to the gym to use the sauna. Let's make that happen today, Nancy Jean! (Listen to your mom!)

    Today:

    some choices:
    Just Egg frozen with jam
homemade pizza using Lavash as the crust
    bean tostada
    seared broc and tofu
    Just Egg liquid and spinach
    Tea and vegan biscuits
    carrot/apple/pineapple juice
    baked potato
    spaghetti

JUST not sure. All sounds good. I am going to make the spaghetti sauce (doctor up jarred with onions and loads of mushrooms) and freeze in small batches. I bought everything for the pizza so I am pretty sure I will make that. Bought a basil plant and the Lavash...do not want either to go bad. Leaning towards the bean tostada...gotta get those beans in, daily. Decisions Decisions

Whatever I do, I will make it deeeeeeeeeee licous. Later, mates! db0t2a9l7kx1.png

Party was a big success. I think only around 40 people in and out with last minute cancellations. A good time was had by all. I have a bunch of snacks and beer left, maybe I need to have the core group of friends back over next week to use it up. :)

I was glad I started the party earlier in the day so everyone was pretty well cleared out by 8:00 and I finished the cleaning up and got to bed by 10:00. Wasn't much to do really, people helped with the cleanup before they took off.

Nanc, it's really not hard. I just make a few things and lots of people bring dishes or desserts, and I had a ton of snacky stuff. It was nice out so a lot of people were hanging outside. Did you make it to the sauna?

Today is going to be mostly rest and relax. I made two baggies worth of marinated tofu to bake but only made one tray so I will cook the other batch today and I have a lot of cut up veggies left so salads this week will be a cinch to throw together.

Probably won't be a stellar WFPB day because I have half a container of Sabra hummus left and a lot of snack crackers and tortilla chips and salsa, so I'll be eating up some of that. Back to totally WFPB tomorrow. I ended up with well over 10,000 steps yesterday and 240 zone minutes. If I had parties for a living I'd probably be in great shape! Well, except for the junk food and alcohol that go along with parties. LOL

Off to finish the last of the cleaning up and a couple people will be stopping over to help with taking down the canopy out back and emptying the heavy coolers.

for a successful party...you make it sound so easy...it's all in the planning...you're a natural party planner, I'm guessing.

Someone asked about what dog I would be getting to keep Lulu company ... it would be a rescue. Either the pound, or a few of the rescue groups I keep tabs on in this area.

Did not make it to the sauna. Did make 6, 16 ounces of fresh carrot/pineapple/apple juice, however.

    Laundry and cleaning today.

    coffee
tofu scramble with loads of spinach
lavash homemade pizza: bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, sauce, vegan mozza, fresh basil.
    tofu, broc stirfry
    vegan biscuit/cookies and tea*

Just want this week to go fast ... results from the Pet Scan are Thursday. I kinda feel if it had been something horrible, I would have gotten a call by now.

Have a delicious day, everyone! gp4crd3g4f7k.png

Nanc, I've heard people refer to scanxiety and I remember feeling that way when they said there was a suspicious spot after a mammogram and I had to go back for an ultrasound. Turned out to be just a cyst but yeesh... that few weeks between suspicious and all clear it seemed to always be in the back of my mind.

Love that you are thinking about a friend for Lulu. Does she normally get along well with other dogs?

I mostly took it easy yesterday. A little bit of final cleaning up, made a mix of black and red rice, baked the tofu. Read for a while. Didn't eat as much of the leftover junk food as you'd think, just some hummus and pita chips, plus a couple vegan cookies a friend made. I was craving something healthy so I made a quick batch of water sauteed broccoli and peppers and ate that with some of the tofu and rice.

Have an appointment with my doc this afternoon. Thinking I may have another sinus infection but it could just be my normal sinus allergy crud notched up a level or two. This long dry spell is making it rough on everyone with all the allergens not getting washed away.

Plan for the next few days is sweet potato and broccoli for breakfast, baked beans with rice for lunch, big ol' salads for dinner. Easy since almost everything is leftover from the party and will be easy to throw together.

    Carla, how you feeling now?

Bisky, is the packing nearly finished?

    Happy Monday!

Mihani - Sounds like you had a great party. I love hummus and baby carrots!

Magic - I can’t wait to see pics of your new dog. I am sure Lulu will appreciate the company.

We got a lot accomplished this weekend! Renters are completely out…House looks fantastic. They took really good care of it. Painters start today!!! It is painted in dark yellows and browns. We are going totally off white with bright white trim. I have white shutters on all the windows. Hopefully it will brighten up the place. It is a drastic change. Craft room is packed up with large amount going to thrift store on base and 4 large bags of trash.

I played a lot of ping pong, racquetball and tennis so pickleball was easy to take up and get a good workout. I still believe swimming is overall best exercise and then walking. Brooks and I hit on Saturday. He hits one day of week, has not had very many lessons and is 10 times better than me. It is a good social sport for him without hurting his knees.

We thought we hurt Obi with too much walking. Saturday night he wouldn’t come up the stairs to bed so we carried him. Brooks thought it was his hips the way he was walking. Sunday morning he was refusing to walk…carried him outside and then fed him. As I was trying to decide if he needed to go to an emergency vet…he started chewing on his paw…checked and there was a tiny thorn deep between pads. 🙄. When Cleo and CB get thorns they hold their paws up. Obi is fine now. 😹😹😹

On another animal drama, I took over feeding 4 feral cats on base. People we knew in Japan fed them and they moved in June and before that, a doctor had trapped them, taken them to be neutered and spayed with tip of one ear cut and feed them. I can’t find anyone willing to take care of them and they are so sweet. 😢

Bisky, sounds like things are moving along well. When I had the interior painted a few years ago I went with all neutral walls and mostly white trim. Really brightened the place up and gave it a feeling of continuity. I think the color was called dove something.

Poor Obi! Glad you found the thorn and he's feeling better. I feel sad for the kitties. Hopefully you'll find someone who can take over their feeding.

I crept up a few pounds with the salty crackers and junk food from the party, plus some delicious homemade cookies a friend brought. Last night I froze the rest of the cookies and will stay away from the junky stuff. I am hoping some friends come over Friday to drink up some of the leftover beer and eat up some of the snacks. Whatever is left after that will go to the office snack cabinet and it will disappear. I have a friend who will probably take all the beer off my hands. I rarely drink beer anymore. Used to love it but it makes me feel sluggish and bloated now.

    Plan for today...
B - ezekiel english muffin with tahini and sliced tomato
L - sweet potato and steamed broccoli
D - big ol' salad topped with baked tofu, cucumber, peppers, tomato

Got in a mile on the treadmill this morning. Oh, and the doc said probably another sinus infection and I have to pick up antibiotics today. Also going to start taking claritin for allergies. Sure do wish we'd get some rain to clean the air.

Sounds like a great party, Mihani. You make it sound easy but it's not something I could do. Nice that you had some help with cleanup afterwards.

Your juices sound delicious, magic. Keep us posted on your results. I agree, "they" usually have a rush on bad news and take more time with the good.

Bisky, thanks for the filter suggestion. We have a big one in the hallway but a little one in the bedroom is a good idea. Is there something about the Blue Air brand that makes it better than others? Nice job on your routine, you are doing great. And those sisters of yours...boundaries are a good idea right now. You know when you need to distance yourself. I know how hard that can be because I have to do that with my mom when I am struggling with certain things.

I had my dental surgery yesterday and made it through. But now I am on so many medications, the latest being antibiotics. I am going to work towards getting off of every one of them that I can, one by one.

Today is a nice recovery day. I will do some light cleanup with no heavy lifting, work on my Spanish, and hopefully catch up on sleep. The prednisone makes it so that I am extremely tired at night yet still can't sleep.

Not sure what is on our plantage menu for the week. We review it a week in advance and I don't remember our choices, I just know it will be better than I would eat otherwise, and easy to heat and eat!

i could use a meal plan during this move.

Carla - I get consumer reports and Blue air was one on the highly recommend list. Good for you recognizing need for boundaries with your mother. My mother was not as much of a problem as my sisters. they are 12 and 16 years older than me and frequently feel the need to criticize and give unwanted advice. i think i posted what my oldest sister said about our move : I hope the stress does not cause you to gain your weight back. i have not talked to her since that conversation. i can forgive her but don’t need her to stress me out about one of my biggest issues and it was not helpful regarding the move.

Ceilings being painted today. plus a few slightly rotted boards in bathrooms replaced. I decided I am not going to have cupboards painted even though that is the style. The first picture is my kitchen and counter top. I am going to do the white subway tiles for a backsplash. It will be much less yellow after painting. mec83jakr62b.jpeg The second picture is similar to my kitchen.
    8begrn2q71b6.jpeg

I don’t want it to look too cold or sterile. Niece did bright white walls and cabinets. it is beautiful and a very clean look but cold feeling.

Carla, glad dental surgery is over with. Is your breathing still better?

Bisky, I'm sure the kitchen will be beautiful. Be careful with all that lifting.

I was in the office until almost 7:00 last night and didn't feel like getting up this morning so I only got half a mile in on the treadmill, but at least I didn't totally blow it off. Going to swing by Fresh Thyme tonight for more sweet potatoes and broccoli.

    Plan for today...
B - sweet potato and steamed broccoli, a brazil nut
L - red rice and baked beans
    D - big ol' salad

I ate up the last of the baked tofu last night so I'll be back to chickpeas on my salads starting tonight.

    potato

got my gym bag ready to take to sauna after work! The gist: Sauna bathing helps to relax and calm the body, promoting a deeper and more restful sleep. The rise in body temperature during a sauna session, followed by a drop after leaving the sauna, can induce a sleep-inducing response, resulting in improved sleep quality.Feb 14, 2024 *

Yesterday, I realized I cannot come home and then go. And I have to get into a routine so I can improve my sleep so I can take Lulu on long walks in the morning. Months of crappy sleep is not fair to her. I have to get this resolved without any sleep aids. Tomorrow results of Pet Scan.

Be good to yourselves everyone. Later, mates.

You have a lovely kitchen, bisky. I love the subway tiles in the sample photo. Are you going to get ones with texture/dimension like that? Thanks for the filter info.

I'm so glad you have Fresh Thyme near you when you need a break, Mihani. If anyone needs that resource, it's you with all of the work you do. My breathing has been great on the prednisone, but as I wean off of it, it is worsening. I have 2 more days of the minimum dose left. I think after that I'll have to follow up with the doctor again.

I hope the sauna helps you get a good night's sleep, Magic. Good idea packing up a bag ahead of time.

I have a new fitness watch that I am loving. It has a nice big display, the fitbit app, and data for 2 years included so I can use it to talk on my phone if I want to and receive text, emails, etc.

Last night and tonight we're having tofu nuggets with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. Such yummy comfort food, perfect for right now.

Hope the sauna helped you sleep better, Nanc.

Carla, sorry to hear the breathing is getting worse again. :( I hope doc can get you something that will help more long term. Your dinner sounds yummy and the fitness watch sounds cool.

Got up more on time today so I got in the full mile. I'm pretty consistently at 3.3 to 3.5 mph now. Happy with how much I've progressed in a short time just by being consistent. I have only missed a few days this month getting well over 5,000 steps, and have met my zone minutes on quite a few days.

Not too happy with the scale though. I was losing little by little, but the party blew that up and I gained several pounds. I think it is likely salt and I indulged in some of the leftover crackers, tortilla chips, pickles and olives the past couple evenings after I got home. I am going to stick to my guns today and not get into the junky stuff when I get home.

    Plan for today...
B - ezekiel english muffin with tahini
L - sweet potato and steamed broccoli
D - oats with all the goodies

How was the sauna, Magic. Did you get some good rest last night?

Nice job with the treadmill, Mihani! That is great progress. Don't worry about the scale, it is going to adjust once that excess water leaves your body.

Yesterday after I posted about my breathing problem, I took a 24 hour antihistamine and lo and behold, about 20 minutes later my breathing started getting better. It's going to be mold somewhere. I just hope we can get it completely removed and that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I went on the treadmill for 20 minutes yesterday to get back into the swing of things. It didn't make my breathing worse, so I will continue with the 20 minutes for the rest of this week and then reassess. Between dog walks and the TM, I got my 5000 steps the last 2 days in a row, the first time since getting sick.

For breakfast this morning, I'm going to try a mango smoothie and hold the banana. There's something about bananas in smoothies blocking nutrient uptake or something. I forget the details.
Tonight's meal is a Mexican salad with chipotle crema dressing and a corn cake.

Good job on the treadmills everyone and getting your steps in.

Carla - interesting about bananas. Do you use a vegetarian protein powder to your smoothies? I haven’t made green smoothies in several weeks. Back on my addiction to Chike coffee protein powder. I think it is a whey protein powder and I have been adding 1/2 a banana.

Mihani - I am sure it is fluid retention due to salt. Somewhere I read that it is important to drink more fluids to help fluid retention. But that seems counterintuitive….unless it is to lower the sodium levels that are causing fluid retention.

Magic - keeping fingers crossed for your Pet Scan. I agree about the importance of early morning walks with dogs. My house will have a backyard with a dog door so I hope I don’t get lazy or neglect the pups. They still need their walks. Charley Bear aka Mr. Grubby pants and I have our routine that I get up feed dogs ( Brooks walks them at 0500)…then CB and I do a short walk to feed the feral cats. He loves to sit and watch them. They are all so friendly with me. I hate leaving the kitties. Then I take Cleo and Obi on a longer faster walk.

Load of more garden stuff to the house and let garage floor painters in. Forgot to take before pics of cracked, chipped and oil stained floor. They take a heavy machine and buff out all the stains, repair the cracks and then put the epoxy on. Rest of house coming along. They painted my closet to make sure I liked the new color. Swam 700 meters. Need to get back to work. First time driving up to our house with dogs. CB was excited. qhtv46zpr1i6.jpeg

Here I just said I'd never host a party and it turns out we have been holding ragers for mice in the attic!

Instead of mold it is mouse feces. We do have a leak in the shower and at a outside water spout that is leaking into the crawl space as suspected but it hasn't resulted in mold yet. A few big bills incoming, but they will deodorize, sanitize, close off, and re-insulated attic, and we are scheduling a plumber for the leaks. Not optional stuff.

It does mean we'll have to put off replacing the carpet with flooring and replacing our dining set and living room furniture.

At least we know what it is!

Cute pic, Bisky. That's interesting about the garage floor. Mine is awful and getting worse. I'll have to look into someone to do that... I was thinking about naturestone but that would just cover up the problem.

Ewwww... mouse poop, Carla! I hate mice in the house. My prior house was very old (built around 1900) and was infested with mice. It was awful! My love of all living creatures absolutely stops at rodents in my house.

Yay for no cancer, Nanc! I hope between the good news and the sauna you finally got a good night's sleep.

Got in my mile on the treadmill even though I didn't feel like it this morning. Once I get started it's okay just some mornings it's hard to drag myself down the hall to do it. Plan for food is same as yesterday, with the addition of an apple and some pistachios for a snack. I tend to get hungry mid-morning. Going for cocktails with friends tonight if I'm up to it. I need to spend all day tomorrow in the office because there's a family reunion Sunday and I have relatives from out of town coming early to visit at my house for a while before we leave for the reunion. I need to do some catching up after taking 3 days off over last weekend.

Carla - Oh yuck! Mice poo! I wish I could send my sweet feral kittens to you to take care of your mice. I wonder if mice set up shop after you lost Miss Kitty?

Congratulations Magic on your fantastic results and being a cancer survivor.

Mihani - great snack combo…apples and pistachios. It does not matter how many pistachios I eat…I never gain weight with them. Now chocolate…another matter. I think a lot of nuts and seeds pass through slightly undigested.

Looks beautiful Bisky! Very clean and serene. Speaking of chocolate. A friend brought me a bottle of vin chocolat noir. O.M.G. it is good! I got out of the office so late tonight I couldn't make it for cocktails with friends so I decided to have a glass of wine when I got home. Will have to be careful with this stuff, would be easy to drink too much of it and I need to be in the office early tomorrow!

I ate some crackers today. I'm really struggling to get back to the habits that I had before the party. I hate that a few days of indulging throws me for such a loop on healthy eating. I am going to get rid of all the rest of the crackers and snacks. I'll take them to the office and they will disappear. Basic plan for the weekend is loads of steamed veggies, salads and sweet potatoes. A few days of that should get my taste buds back to normal and not craving the junky stuff.

Just wish it wasn't always such a struggle, and that every little bit of indulgence didn't result in weight gain. I battle for each pound down and they come back so easily. Feels like I'll never lose the last 20 ish pounds.

BISKY! love the paint...house is beautiful

still having sleep issues...the good news was it is not cancer...that is really good news.

bad news is it is very bad arthritis! bone on bone my right hip. WTF? I thought I was just stiff in the morning...it's been going on for a very long time...but once I got going in the morning, I seemed to be ok...UNTIL it was getting painful during the day, that's when I made the appointment.

Anyway, I am depressed. I just finished back to back knee replacements '22 and '23 ... this was supposed to be a great year. But it is NOT cancer...so I have to keep that in mind. Making appointment with orthopedic surgeon ... probably not til after Houston 10/9 - 10/14. I know there will be a hip replacement in my future. I saw the scans...bone on bone. F!

    I just cannot flipping sleep.

I do love the sauna...20 minutes is plenty. It's hot in there. Really got. Like your skin is burning hot.
I take three bottles of ice water in with me. I freeze about a third of a bottle ... and then add to it so the water is cold during my stay.

Starting Mary's Mini today. Hoping it helps with my non sleeping situation.

Sorry bout the critter infestation, Carla. Hope everything gets resolved SOON!

Haircut today...cross town. The weekend will be spent getting the house ready for Lulu's overnight guest (puppy sitter) while I am in Houston...lots to do and me up in the middle of the night. NOT what I had planned.

Be well everyone. Keep it delicious.
