    @Gidgitgoescrzy I am like you and do not like the cold at all! Is it spring yet?

    I third that. I am not liking this very cold weather. I am missing my milder North Carolina winters.

    I did a bit of stress eating today. Excuses. Excuses. Our good friend and his family lives in Altadena, California. They have a brand new three week old daughter and have been evacuated due to the fires. They are safe but know nothing about whether their house survived. And our best friends son and daughter in law and their kids are being evacuated from Sherman Oaks. So I shoved from salty things in my mouth. It’s so devastating. Plus it’s 25° out and my 5 1/2 month pregnant daughter’s heat went out at her home. Ugh. She won’t come here. I offered. Don’t let my granddaughter get too cold. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

    I am not sure what is going on? Having a few stomach issues and I've been drinking a lot more water but a whole pound I was still 157 yesterday😢😡

    I don’t mind the eggs reheated in the microwave with my egg scramble. . My daughter got me started in this. She would clean out her fridge and all veggies would go into the scramble, even broccoli and tomatoes sometimes. Her kids all enjoy it as well.

    @cleaneater80 - For me, the biggest adjustment was adding back in commute time to my office day schedule. One thing I do is wake up at the same time each day, even the days I work from home and that helps with maintaining a routine. Then, when I work from home, I use that “commute time” to enjoy a cup of coffee or journal.

    @micki48 - I hope that your friends and their family are okay! And hopefully your daughter’s heat will be restored soon. This polar vortex is bitterly cold!

    I completed both Tuesday and Wednesday’s workouts on Sydney’s January calendar and today is the first designated rest day. Tuesday’s workout was a low impact cardio workout, which I really enjoyed. I saved it to my playlist for travel workouts when I don’t have access to gym equipment. Wednesday’s was a very spicy 🌶️ glutes and leg workout, which my quads are definitely still feeling today.

    Food has also been better since my little splurge after dinner a few nights ago. We made a beef and squash stew to have for dinner the next few nights, and some crusty bread from a local bakery to enjoy along side. Lunch had been a vegetarian chickpea and potato curry, which is a classic one for us. So simple to make and delicious.

    @ashleycarole86

    Monday, January 6 - 7,963 steps, 45 minutes of spin, 3 games of bowling
    Tuesday, January 7 - 6,609 steps, 1 hour of CrossFit
    Wednesday, January 8 - 6,225 steps, 3 games of bowling
    Today! I am already at 4,867 steps because I did 35 minutes of walking/jogging at our indoor track

    Today the wind is blowing and it is cold! What we need though is moisture. I'm not the biggest fan of snow, but I know our area needs it, so I am going to keep hoping for it.

    @micki48 - I hope all of your connections in California stay safe and your daughter gets her heat back soon!

    @micki48 - Sending thoughts to your friends and hope your granddaughter kept warm. So devastating what is going on in California.

    I love the cold and snow - perhaps it's because I'm in a cold climate and it's part of life. I have 3 winter coats all for different weather conditions and bundle up to get out. I don't let the cold get me down. I also have a hot tub and wood fireplace to keep me warm. That being said it's above zero here which is fairly warm. Hope to get some good walks out with the dog this weekend.

    @micki48 - the fires over there are so scary, we are a bushfire-prone nation but seeing them just rip through such populated areas is horrifying. All the best to your friends! I hope your daughter's heat is back on - crazy that there's such a spectrum of weather and events over there.

    @wishfuljune that curry sounds delicious!

    @cleaneater80 I've only ever had to live in snow (as opposed to visiting it for a day!) for a month or so, I really loved it. There was something about rugging up and going out walking in all that crisp air with all the silent and white around, it was just magical.

    The puppy's name is Murf! He's such a darling and is settling in well.

    I have fulfilled the first step of one of my week 1 goals for the year - I went to a taekwondo class! It was so good, and I really enjoyed it. I was able to power through the warm up, and still actually remember a lot of my stuff, which made me happy - I look forward to being properly back in training!!

    Loving all the dog pictures. @conleywoods sounds like that dog was so lucky to have you find him. What did you decide to call him?

    Brad and I are on a weekend away in Kelowna which is a really nice break!

    Jan 8 - 9894 steps + 10 minutes strength
    Jan 9 - 13191 steps

    Yesterday I got plenty of steps so my Peloton activity of choice was actually a meditation - won't be my usual pick but with the travel day, it's nice to have other activities on the platform I can default to. I am enjoying the habit of using it. Today will be day 10 once I decide what I'll do - thinking a guided treadmill walk in the hotel gym.

    @conleywoods - adorable pups! Thank you for sharing pictures!

    @Alatariel75 - Murf is a great name!

    I mentioned in my intro that we have three dogs. Two of them are rescues, and one is a chocolate lab that we bought from a friend. I recently was able to get pictures of my two rescues, so here they are:

    This is Mia. She is a six year old mix with a crazy attitude.

    This is Henry. My niece found him on the side of the road as a small puppy about five months ago.

    @ashleycarole86 woohoo!! I know my week 2 isn't going to be as good, having the puppy has put a crimp on my wandering haha, lots of other exercise, but while he is still waiting for his next vaxxes we're a bit confined!

    Not too shocked at this, definitely had a lot of leftover holiday treats catch up to me this week, but ready to head into the weekend with movement and good food in mind.

    Thanks for all the well wishes about my accident! Sorry I was MIA this week, but caught up on all posts. I'm just starting to dive into the daunting task of finding a used car online lol.

    @Alatariel75 Murf! Love the name and the face!

    @MaddawgMadsen omg Henry is so cute

    @ashleycarole86 way to go to you and Brad for keeping the peloton streak alive. I definitely need a similar breakthrough re: the mentally tough aspect of just getting a workout started. It's the hardest part! Also sorry I am delinquent on steps - reporting everything I have through yesterday so all can be counted for month-end reports.

    Cute dogs @MaddawgMadsen and @conleywoods!

    I love the name Murf @Alatariel75!

    I was able to leave work early at 2pm today before the snow started :) It looks pretty coming down and my plan is to shovel the driveway tomorrow for some exercise. We have gotten 1/2" so far, but it's still snowing and going to snow/sleet all night.

    Murf is a very early riser, and he's too little to be trusted without supervision, so I get up with him. It has its up-sides though - this sunrise was spectacular:

    This was a really good week for me for both exercise and food. I also attribute it to being better about not working super late. I only stayed at work past 6pm twice this week, which is pretty good for me.

    Now it’s about tackling the weekend. I am hosting friends for a tabletop game day this afternoon and offered to pick up a veggie platter and fruit. I think we will also pick up sandwiches from a local restaurant - the one I typically get is a tuna sandwich, light on the mayo/olive oil. It’s quite good and I’m looking forward to it.

    I have spin class this morning and a vinyasa yoga class tomorrow already scheduled. Yesterday’s workout on Sydney’s calendar was an upper body circuit workout, and my shoulders, triceps, and chest muscles are definitely sore today.

    Love to see all of the puppy photos!

    @Kali225 - Good luck with the used car search. Hopefully it won’t be too daunting!

    @lauren_989 - Shoveling is definitely a full body exercise for sure, especially if you have a lot of snow or challenging slushy/ice mix to scoop up.

    @Alatariel75 - What a beautiful sunrise to wake up to! Murf chose a good morning to be an early-riser.

    I really don’t care for the scale. It’s derailing. I didn’t think it was a bad week good wise. Not much specific exercise, but ugh! How do I gain when I try and maintain when I’m not paying close attention?

    Our friends in Altadena as of now still have their house. The fire line is literally 6 ish houses from theirs. I think the fire has slowed down, but is not yet under control. Other friends are doing fine except smokey air.

    My SIL was able to fix the heater the next day when he got the new part. $11-Nice to be able to fix it yourself. A service call would have been over $100. He is our HVAC person at my school.

    What do you do to make yourself move when you feel so tired and all you want to do is just sit (and usually fall asleep)? I’m 60 years old and spend the day teaching sixteen 6 and 7
    year olds. I am wiped out. My Christmas decorations and tree are still up. My husband is 70, retired, has a broken hand and sits a lot too. Plus I’m doing things he usually did.

    Thanks for the cute puppy photos. They sure are cute! Kay- wishing you successful car shopping. Ashley and Brad - way to go with the 10 day streak on peloton. Gorgeous sunrise 🌅 Thanks Murf.

    We had another dusting of snow overnight. It’s pretty. Now the sidewalks are covered again. Have a memorial service today and bowling/arcade with my school and granddaughter tomorrow. That’s exercise, right?

    @micki48 Really hoping things turn out okay for your friends... what a scary time. Such a tragedy what is happening.

    In terms of your question, there is definitely a limit to what I have capacity for, and sometimes accepting that is the hardest part. You may have to let go of some expectations about what you'd do if you had unlimited time and energy and meet yourself where you're at. Your job must take a lot of effort and with your husband's injury I can imagine just making sure basic needs are met can feel like a struggle some days. All that to say, if the Christmas decorations take a while longer, don't beat yourself up for it. Do what you can, and build off of that. Some days I've only been doing 10 minutes of exercise and it's been impossible to get started but I just went to the room and did the thing and now that I'm flexing the habit muscle again it's starting to feel closer to a need than something I'm forcing myself to do. Now hopefully I can keep building on that and turn it into some weight loss..

    @Kali225 good luck with the car search and appreciate the steps, they're good to have even retroactively so this is perfect!!
