I'm studying philosophy and history.
I was on track yesterday. I figured out a solution. I save 400 to 500 calories a night for dessert because my weakness since the house thing started is eating some sort of chocolate or something at night. But if I save some calories for it at night, then I can eat it and still stay on track. This does make the days slightly tighter but it worked well last night so I'm going to keep trying that this week and see if it continues working.

That's exactly why I do 4 meals a day.
I used to also bump my calories from weightloss to maintenance level so I could enjoy a snack when I was really struggling at bedtime (speaking of my fav choklit!! a cup of 'no added sugar' hot cocoa with mini marshmallows or a square of dark choc, tbsp pb melted, swirled then use as a dip with 1/2 banana.)
Over the years, without realizing - we used to pasdls through our kitchen to get to the restroom and i'd pinch a bit of this or that (not even tracking it, cuz what does a few cals like that even matter?)
Well that grew into a random evening & middle of night snackage grazing habit whenever I passed through.
Realized it was a problem whenever I tried to start a fresh diet. Evenings, bedtime and even middle of the night were always the hardest time of day - that is when we are tired and can be most emotional.
To change that, my compromise was to allow and schedule a snack PLUS look for non-food ways to unwind, de-stress and self-soothe.
When I did not feel the need, I skipped the snack, and eventually I would forget it. Snacks became less frequent… eventually dropped off middle of night. I still usually eat one later evening/bedtimeish, but not always.
— and when I still was doing something middle of night, I kept tangerines and bananas on hand. Easy to peel and enjoy one in low light - satisfying the ritual urge, but not large or overfull so easy to return to sleep.
Eventually the need dropped off - but... it would return when something really stressful/stong negative emotions happened... before it nearly extinguished.
For me, the approach releases any guilt - just a strategy to try and practice....
And, it really took awhile to rewire that expectation - first with something that was both nourishing plus emotionally ok and then with the non-food activity instead.
Whenever I tried to 'start' a fresh big 'diet' - I would find it tough emotionally, and also feel like I was starving and had to white knuckle through it.
- Big crunchy salads, broth veg soups
- Eventually, I started focusing just on this meal/snack - no frets about future eating, figure I would deal with that then.
- Cold, large volume foods help so much in summer (chilled melons & berries, ready-made salad and cut veggie trays from the grocery, make it easy ;)
Hope you have a great week!

@yakkystuff You have such great advice! Thank you so much for sharing that!
Today is my 3rd day in a row back on track - feeling good!

That's awesome, have great week!

Great advice as usual from @yakkystuff!
My favorite chocolate treat has become Greek yogurt with a bit of chocolate protein powder and some cocoa powder. Mixed up it becomes the consistency of chocolate soft serve. I'll have it with raspberries or cherries and a sprinkle of granola. My 4 year old great nephew now asks me for some chocolate yogurt whenever he sees me.
History and philosophy is very cool. So many options when you graduate!

I have been back on track for almost a week now. Feeling good. Down a little bit of (likely water) weight.

How's it going?

I am not quite on track with food anymore but I did join a hiking group. Because I joined the hiking group and have been exercising so much more, I've been a lot hungrier. I realized I am having major burn out and am not as interested in losing weight even though I am still not at the weight I would like. I am thinking of taking a break to just eat at maintaining levels.

Left comment in goals.
So, on super active days, you eat a bit more?
We have been helping pack for a move - lots of extra physicality… I was ravenous midnight last night.... could not sleep, got up and had a snack banana & pb... did the trick…

If you ate feeling burned out @Catlady27787 eating at maintenance can be a great solution. I will be doing the same for probably until labor day. Way too many family/friend activities and I want to not stress about it.
This is just a small period of a lot of months of living. Enjoy your hiking group, get back into the house and semester routine then look at next steps.

Yes I decided to eat maintenance calories and a bit more with all the exercise.
Cant remember if I shared this already but the house is done with the exception of one hole in the side of the house (and no idea what the plan is for that currently lol). But the roof, kitchen, and basically everything big is done and the finishing work. We in theory need to repaint the bathroom and the study one day because of the damage but I don't really care currently? Maybe that's bad but it's fine to me and I would rather take a break from working on the house now that the main room/kitchen looks amazing and the roof is done. All the real damage besides the hole is done so I think my brain is just tapping out lol

Lol, I think that's ok (re work left on home.)
Reminds me when we remodeled, and I stopped mid-point top of doorway trim...
Few days later, my brother was over for lunch, and was astounded I had not finished. He just had to… grabbed the paint, finished rest of the door frame. I would have, in good time. I was exhausted, working ft... remodeling eves & weekends. We slept in our minivan in the back over the summer and were able to move in after labor day. Took til NYs to get most of it sorted…
It is a marathon, not a sprint. Life.

Hiking club is going well. Today we hiked five miles for two and a half hours. The incline was steep so my watch thought I had climbed 62 flights of stairs!

My mom announced on Monday that she's divorcing my dad. She signed a lease for an apartment in their town and bought plan tickets to visit her sister for Thanksgiving already. So guess I'm def spending Thanksgiving with my dad's side?

I remember a day like that...
We did both sides, every holiday for years, then later, every other year switching the majors... with 2 sides/inlaws, 4 places was too much...
But maintaining the relationships, in a neutral way, felt a bit like Switzerland ;)
Sorry for the sorrow... it's just sad sometimes, but is. (Hugs)

Yeah it should be interesting especially since I have in laws also. I mean my parents do not like each other so I'm not surprised per say.
I have decided to start tracking my food a bit more. I stopped when I began hiking club but now that I seem to have some family stressors coming up, I do not want to stress eat so I want to recommit to healthy habits
