Mucky's Diary

Therefore, my goal is to weigh under 200lbs, have a body fat percentage of <40%, and be able to walk 10mi in a day. I plan to do weekly diary entries so please keep me accountable!!
I started this Journey on Jan 6 and weighed 235.6lbs, getting <2000 steps a day, and was over 50% body fat.
Today I weigh 230.4lbs and 49.5% body fat. This week I have been getting over 4000 steps for most days, went for a walk 4 days (about .75 mi), and did strength exercises 4 days.
I'm concentrating on getting fresh fruit and veggies in every meal, and increasing protein consumption.

Gotta love the mom life, we're always prioritizing ourselves last! You got this, time to put your health first! You are off to an amazing start, I have no doubt you will get there in no time.1

My daughters have decided they want to work out with me. I'm going to have to triple up our home exercise equipment for family exercise sessions. Today I did a 15 min walk, an arm weight lifting session, and some restorative yoga.1

Congrats on your loss! It is great your daughters want to join, you are setting a fabulous example. Maybe try doing circuits - so each ofb ou do one thing then switch - instead of buying a ton more equipment. Good luck and we are here cheering you on.0

Tommow will mark 2 weeks on my exercise routine, and thursday was 1 month on this weightloss journey. One month results are 229.8bs and 49.1% body fat. I've also lost 1in from my waist.
I work better with a laid out plan I can follow without much thought. So, I've been following a walking training schedule which should bet me up to my goal of 10mi in a day in about 20 weeks: https://www.royalmarsden.org/sites/default/files/2017-07/training-guides.pdf
On top of that I've been doing a 15-20 min strength workout cycling between core, arms, and legs. I got 6months of fitbit premium with my new fitbit, so I've been doing thier workout videos.

Wow! You are doing great! You are really motivated!!0

Intermittent fasting (16hr fasting and 8hr eating window) seems to be the secret sauce for weight loss. When I kicked off this health journey, I was doing IF with no activity increase and pounds were melting away and by Feb 5th I was 229.8lbs. When I really started my walking and strength training I switched to counting calories, eating whenever as long as I stayed at or below MFP goals. I quickly plateaued and my weight started going upwards to 233. I switched back to IF while continuing to exercise and pounds again are melting and I am back down to 229.4 lbs as of today.
I don't know why, but apparently when I eat seems to have more effect than how many calories I eat. I am eating similar foods and amount of calories.
However, I am sick with a cold and trying to take it a bit easy for a few days since I can barely breathe through my nose0 -
I hope you feel better soon.0

Half the battle seems to be figuring out what works for us individually. There is more than one right way forward on our weight loss quests. Way to go figuring out what works for you!0

I hope you feel better soon @mucky1217. The colds and flus this year are no joke!!0

I'm on the mend and getting back on track with exercising. I tried to do some level of exercise while sick, but a low intensity. We have also had a decent amount of snow and colder temps which makes it more challenging to stay motivated. However, if it's not nice enough to walk I am substituting with our stationary bike.0

This week's update:
Week 7 of the weight loss journey and week 4 of exercising.
I'm down 1lb this week, and down 8lbs total. I have also reduced my body fat % from 50% to 48.7%.
I of course wish the process would be faster, but I'm happy with progress. I know that building muscle will make the weight loss slower even though inches will drop and so will body fat.
I'm able to do my strength training with heavier weights, and am breathing easier walking up the big hill back to my house. It's kind of cruel to have to walk up a hill at the end of my walk.1 -
That is great @mucky1217 !! It sounds like you are developing strong habits that will be sustainable. Losing the weight is half the battle and keeping it off the other half. Sounds like you will be in a great place for that!!
I know what you mean about hills at the end. Have them all around me and right now covered in ice and snow. Indoor walking for me but hopefully I can get out by mid March at least a little. But not looking forward to the last hill!!
You are doing great, congrats!0 -
Way to go Mucky. You're body adapts to slower weight loss better. I know when I lose more weight my arms will likely have loose skin and I know my inner thighs will look like deflated bags. I am hoping my midsection responds like it always has but I am alot older now. Plus in the long run, more muscle will help you lose fat faster because it consumes more calories.
You rock!0 -
It's been a bit so time for an update!
With the recent bumps I kind of fell off the fitness track, but am trying to get back on track this week. I have gone for a walk 5 out of 7 days, and just did a fullbody 30min strength exercise. I definitely felt the time off today as I huffed and puffed a bit while walking up the hill to my house.
My current stats:
Weight 225lbs, that's down 10.5lbs! Yay!
% body fat 48.1% (down 2.8%)
Waist 39.8in (down by 2in)
I had my annual physical last week and got referral for getting my cancer screening (prompted by my brother's diagnosis). While there, I had my annual blood tests and my cholesterol is a little high. I'm trying to get in to see a registered dietician so I can get input on my diet. I eat a pretty healthy diet and am not sure what to change to get my numbers to drop.

Even with your challenges you are doing great Mucky!! Way to stay focused.
I hear your concern about the cholesterol. A dietician could be very helpful for sure. But genetics can play a big part too. I take a very low dose statin because we cannot get my level under 200 without it, despite weight-loss and diet. My doctor is always game to try to get me off and recheck. Plan on asking her at my annual in the summer.
Great job advocating for your screening. Always so important. So happy to hear you are taking care of yourself.
Keep up the good work and be kind to yourself always.

Congrats on the weight loss and getting back to exercising. I've been less … well less… I haven't gone back to chair yoga or tai chi but i have been moving more at my desk.
