@Tabatha_Cain WOOHOO On the OT and doing it!! Hopefully today (I imagine you'll be seeing this on Thurs) you'll be able to rest and also do a few things for YOURSELF!! Oh, man! I hate the ultimate sensitivity feeling!! It feels like it's almost on fire? Touch it and I'll probably disappear type of thing. THankfully it's rare I reach that point any more, but yes, it's because I was able to look at stretches etc. and see what did and more so what did NOT work for my pain level. So strange, how something a friend does for her fibro which helps her can set mine ablaze! Through trial and error though I can get mine down so fast I actually tend to forget I have fibro. I hope you can reach this point.
Awww how is Chloe doing? My today was fun in that I attended the Cribbage Tournament though LOL I can not get the cards I mostly need to secure a place in the top 8, we still have likely 2 more times before the top 8 players start to be in, and maybe 3 more times for the top 8 out of 21 players. I do not think I'll be one, unless I suddenly can win 3 in a row during those weeks. Anything is possible. Most of the games I play we come down to the last hand decides who wins. At least only once have I been skunked though i have skunked 2 people and also out of the 3 weeks in the tournament I've won high pot 2 times (only one high pot counts for the day).

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Thursday and I am taking it easy today. I do have laundry and dishes to do, but I am going to do it in my own time today. Oh and I have a chiropractor appointment. Yesterday I went for a jog. I downloaded the couch to 5K app and used it for the first day. I ended up only getting the 17 minutes in due to how cold it was outside. 19 degrees is really really cold and my face froze, my nose was running all over the place, and my ears and fingers hurt so bad. So I called it at 17 minutes when you are supposed to do 30. I will keep trying today. I am going to wait for it to get a bit warmer and then try again. It is supposed to be warmer today and tomorrow.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - I do forget I have it until I have a flare up. So I am there. I am able to do a lot of things. Yay, Cribbage. It has been a while since you have talked about that game. Yesterday I attempted to go jogging. I got 17 minutes in. I probably could have gone longer if it was not 19 degrees outside. My face hurt I was so cold. Chloe loved it. She was passed out after our walk/jog. I think you normally do really well in the tournament so I hope you continue to do well. Here is Chloe passed out after our walk.

The second photo is Chloe and our cat Sahara. You never really see these 2 in a photo together since Chloe is always trying to tackle Sahara and she usually runs away. This is the first time they have chilled together on the couch.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday

    NATIONAL SCRIBBLE DAY

National Scribble Day on March 27 inspires children to kindness through art.

    #NationalScribbleDay

Each of us starts out as a little colorful, wrinkled-up human being with eyes, nose, and sometimes a shock of hair. Our personality develops as we go. We're a bit like a scribble.

Children's scribbles become more than just scribbles when eyes and a smile are added. Somehow a personality leaps onto the page and with it, encourages children to grow and express themselves. The positive result of looking back at them spreads a surge of joy that is infectious.

That's what's so wonderful about scribbles - anyone can make them no matter their ability. This means everyone from Grandpa to the smallest family member can join in the day.  Gather up the crayons in every color and scribble up smiles for everyone!

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL SCRIBBLE DAY

Scribble with a child on National Scribble Day. Whether it laughs, dances, or grins, it doesn't matter. The child can laugh, dance, and grin, too!

Educators, visit dianealber.com/pages/nationalscribbleday/ for resources and sign up for stickers.

Families, you can participate at home by bringing out the crayons and art supplies. Let the kids of all ages get creative with their scribbles. Art is an excellent way to relieve anxiety and there are no lines to stay between here!

Challenge your household to scribble sudsy scribbles - you know, ones that use the right amount of soap when they wash their hands.

    Have fun naming your scribbles.

Turn your final scribbles into a game of who's who. For example, whose scribble looks most like Mick Jagger or Marilyn Monroe?

Educators, also visit the National Day Calendar Classroom for projects and ways to celebrate the day with their students.

Use #NationalScribbleDay to share your scribbles on social media.

    NATIONAL SCRIBBLE DAY HISTORY

Diane Alber, author of I'm NOT Just a Scribble, founded National Scribble Day in 2019 to share a message of kindness and acceptance and to encourage children to create art no matter their ability. Every artist started with a scribble!

The Registrar at National Day Calendar® proclaimed National Scribble Day to be observed annually on March 27th.

    Scribble FAQ

    Q. What other days on the calendar are perfect for scribbling?

    A. There are several but these three are perfect:

    National Crayon Day

    National Kindergarten Day

    Get Ready For Kindergarten Month

    Q. Are scribbles similar to doodles?

    A. Yes, they are similar but doodles are somewhat more structured.

@Tabatha_Cain Ohhh I wish I had a washer and dryer in my unit. When our place was made that was not happening much at that time. I am a high rise 3 of the floors have them fl 2 fl 4 and fl 6. In general, since I am on 3 I go to 2. Plus on 2 there are 2 washers/2 dryers. Still, if I had one in my place I'd never be behind. It's rare I am anyway but still. Brrrr on 19 yesterday!!! Brrrr!!! Soon that'll be over!! We have sleet coming in Sat for part of the day and again on Sunday. Time will tell. HANG ON GF It's almost APRIL!!! As of Tuesday. Of course, if you are like we are, we get some of our best snow storms etc. in April. Awww Chloe, you've gotten so big!!! And sweet to see her with the kitty cat. Awww!! I left today for 2 hours when I got home Izzy and Oscar were side by side on the bed. On their own when I am not around at times they'll seek each other out, other times NAH!!! He has too much energy for her and lololol he has no boundaries she has too many.

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Friday and it is going to be a great day. I will be going into work at noon today. I was supposed to work all day, but Joe has an appointment with his Urologist. Since he had his kidney stone surgery that resulted in them not finding an actual kidney stone now we get to go see the surgeon and find out why they recommended doing the surgery when he had no pain or discomfort and they were not 100% certain there was a kidney stone.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Sorry you have no laundry in your unit. That can be rough sometimes. I do remember living in an apartment with no laundry in the unit. It was rough especially when I had small kids. Yes I am not liking our weather right now. Today is my walking day and well I cannot get my walk in because we are scheduled for a Thunderstorm today. Like why? It is only 48 outside. Not summer time. I do also love when my animals settle in with each other. They were not super cuddly but it is nice that Chloe can stop harassing the cats long enough to let them relax.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Friday.

    Tabatha

  • @Tabatha_Cain 48 degrees? OOF. I think I would freeze. I live in California, though the "cold" part of California (San Francisco). It's going to be 59 today and that's just about cold enough for me, thank you! My two cats were harassing me for cuddle time at 5am today, so you can have their extra cuddles while I get some extra sleep lol!

    NATIONAL TRIGLYCERIDES DAY

On March 28, National Triglycerides Day shines a spotlight on one of the key factors to a healthy lifestyle.

    #NationalTriglyceridesDay

The observance serves as a reminder to patients and practitioners to know about the hidden risks of triglycerides. Learn your numbers and take steps to bring them to healthy levels.

High levels of triglycerides in your blood can be a risk factor for heart disease. Triglycerides are different from cholesterol, though they are both a type of lipid or fat stored in your blood. They serve different purposes. While triglycerides store unused calories and give the body energy, cholesterol builds cells and some hormones.

Monitoring triglycerides is important for heart health. A blood test will tell you if your triglycerides are within normal limits. If they're not, high triglycerides can be a sign of other conditions such as:

    Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes

Metabolic syndrome (cholesterol, weight and blood sugar are all a factor)

    Hypothyroidism

    rare genetic conditions

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL TRIGLYCERIDES DAY

Include a triglycerides check with your routine physical exam.

Visit with your doctor to learn how triglycerides impact your health.

Ask your doctor for advice on how to maintain healthy levels, too.

Your primary care is your go-to source and will be able to guide you on your risk factors.

Use #NationalTriglyceridesDay to share on social media.

    NATIONAL TRIGLYCERIDES DAY HISTORY

National Triglycerides Day was founded in 2018 to encourage awareness of healthy triglyceride levels and the role they play in a healthy lifestyle.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the day to be observed on March 28th.

    Triglycerides FAQ

    Q. How do doctors test for triglycerides?

    A. Doctors test for triglycerides with a blood test called a lipid panel.

    Q. How many people in the United States have high triglyceride levels?

    A. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three adults age twenty and over have elevated triglycerides.

@Tabatha_Cain Hey there! I have hypothyroid as well, but not Hashimoto's and I'm on a very low dosage of levothyroxine for it. For Hashimoto's, I think it's very important to get a specialist who knows that specific type of thyroid issue. Not all physicians understand how it works and how to treat it. I hope you find someone to help you with it. Hang in there! How's the new house going? I've not been on this page in a few weeks, so I probably missed a lot.

I am so happy it's finally Friday! Enjoy the weekend all!

@Tabatha_Cain Did they tell Joe what happened? Did it work its way out and he didn't notice? Or? I've had kidney stone surgery and YO!! LOL having a stent down in the WHAT area was YO!!! Plus a UTI was unreal. Oh that was one of the worst pains I've been in!! LOL you know I live in pain. I hope Joe is okay? How did work go? Awwww on the pets when they get along. I was laughing so hard last night. Izzy was sitting with me, Oscar was meowing horribly for her to come and play. She was totally ignoring him. He comes in and JUMPS near her, taps her and OFF they went. They played for a while and both slept very nicely. Indoor pets need exercise also just as we do! Our weather tomorrow is snow and or sleet for hours, it'll remain on and off in the afternoon. Sunday AM is more sleet or snow though it'll not build up much. Inland will have snow and possibly freezing rain. I HOPE WE DO NOT get the freezing rain. This is the time of year for that nonsense. LOL, the weather really does not care if we like it or not. Ehhhhh as long as no destruction is done, we need all kinds of weather.
@GlitteriestWarriorQueen I just read your introduction!! HEY! WELCOME aboard!!! I also love glitter!! I do have 2 cats (See above). Many years ago I had an all white one. Yours is gorgeous!! Awww so is the black one!! So nice to have the little monkeys. I live in the Greater Portland Maine area. LOL sleet and snow tomorrow, but it'll be warm enough to not be all snow. We were in the low 50s today. WACKY time of the year! I was outside in a tee shirt and jeans and was fine.
@macrat12 sadly reading this was not surprising. Hence why this challenge we are going back to basics! "One in 3 adults age 20 and over have elevated triglycerides.
@Patti241 HI Patti welcome back. I am so sorry for your loss. Things have been rough at times for you. We admire your strength hon. Let's hope that in the springtime the sun shines more so on you.
@Ronnie_happy2ranch HI Ronnie!!! It's amazing how such a small part of our body can mess things up so well!! I hope you have an excellent Dr helping you with your thyroid. As you know last April I had my parathyroid operated on since 2 of out 4 of them had a tumor on them. That did help me in some ways!

@macrat12 Thank you for all of this information! I was not aware of these issues could be causing the hypothyroidism. I am also on medication for high cholesterol and was considered prediabetic last fall with a 5.9 A1C. I had hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) from the time I was about 16 and I found out in 2004 that my bio dad was diabetic. I didn't realize some of these issues could be caused by the high triglycerides. My high cholesterol and A1C is part of the reason I have been trying to lose weight, eat healthier and get more exercise to get it all under control. I'm glad I switched doctors a couple years ago, because my last one wouldn't answer any questions I had and just wanted to prescribe medication all the time. I was able to go off of high blood pressure medication with the newer doctor because of my efforts to get healthier. It just shows us that we have to ask questions and be our own health advocates when dealing with medical issues.

    NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY

National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29 honors the men and women who served and sacrificed during the longest conflict in United States history.

    #VietnamWarVeteransDay

On March 29, 1973, combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam. Generations later, Veterans of this time period are gaining the respect that was not so freely given upon their return. Involving five U.S. presidents, crossing nearly two decades and 500,000 U.S.military personnel, it left an indelible mark on the American psyche.

Returning veterans did not always receive respectful welcomes upon their arrival on American soil. Over 58,000 killed, never to return. The observance recognizes the military service of these men and women who answered the call to serve their country when she needed them. They didn't make the decision to go to war.

Throughout National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we recognize the service and duty rendered by all servicemen and women of this era.

HOW TO OBSERVE VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY

Organizations across the country host events honoring National Vietnam War Veterans Day. These events include memorials, speeches, and luncheons honoring Vietnam veterans and their families.

Invite a veteran you know to join you or help organize an event.

    Thank a Vietnam Veteran.

Buy them a drink or lunch.

Visit a local memorial. Volunteer to help organize events.

Support a veteran's organization in your community. Volunteer and offer your skills.

Watch a Vietnam War documentary. Some films we found are The Vietnam War: A Film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick or Last Days in Vietnam directed by Rory Kennedy or Vietnam Nurses by Timeline.

Read about the Vietnam War. We recommend: Vietnam - A History by Stanley Karnow or They Marched into Sunlight: War and Peace, Vietnam and America, October 1967 by David Maraniss or The Quiet American by Graham Green and Robert Stone.

Send them a shout-out using #VietnamWarVeteransDay on social media.

NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY HISTORY

U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., introduced legislation in 2017 to honor Vietnam Veterans with a day. They chose the anniversary of the withdrawal of military units from South Vietnam. President Donald Trump signed the National Vietnam War Veterans Day Act on March 28, 2017, calling for U.S. flags to be flown on March 29 for those who served.

    Vietnam War Veterans FAQ

    Q. Does every U.S. state have a Vietnam Veterans' memorial?

    A. No. Currently, 13 states have war memorials specific to Vietnam veterans. However, war memorials in every state honor all veterans regardless of when they served.

    Q. How many Medals of Honor were awarded to Vietnam Veterans?

    A. The U.S. Congress named 240 Medal of Honor recipients from the Vietnam War.

@Ronnie_happy2ranch I am happy you switched Dr's!! I am also trying to get mine down. Its a part of why my heart is as it is plus high blood pressure for years. I was and remain a diabetic, though I am now food control. My A1C is generally around 5.4 at times WOOHOO (the last time) 5.1! ALL by the better way I eat and the weight loss. We love watching you improve your health and all you help us with! TY TY TY!!!

@Dianedoessmiles1 It's a lot of work to get and stay healthy, but the benefits are worth it! The weight loss is slow going but I know I'll get there. It's funny because I was only overweight one other time in my life and it was when I had quit smoking back in the late 90s but then I went through a divorce in 2002 and started again; then I quit again in the mid-2000s but didn't gain weight and went back to smoking after 1.5 years (stress). This time, I've been smoke-free since June 2022 when I was hospitalized with a respiratory infection which caused my asthma, so I am permanently a non-smoker now. They probably won't test my A1C again until October, but I'm hoping I've gotten it lowered more. I am so grateful for the 5% Challenges and the groups' encouragement and health information is so extremely helpful.

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Sunday and it is going to be a great day. Today I was asked to come help at church today even though it is my weekend off. So after church Joe and I will be heading to his daughter's house to deliver a crib. After that is grocery shopping and laundry. It is going to be a full day. I am also thinking I am going to be napping a bit today to help for tomorrow.

@GlitteriestWarriorQueen - Thank you. I love cat cuddles. I have 3 cats myself. 48 isn't even the lowest. That is actually warmer that it has been for a while. I would love the warm weather of 59. That is a light jacket weather for us.

@Ronnie_happy2ranch - I do have a specialist. My regulars docs were not listening to me when I said something was not right. I have been on Thyroid meds for 20 years and the same med and dose and my weight went from 232 pounds and I am not roughly 155. So I requested to see an endocrinologist who specializes in Thyroid issues. He found my Hashimoto's with one blood test that regular doctors never run. The new house is going great. We are slowing making it our own. The fence is in and the dog is loving free running outside. I am sorry you are dealing with thyroid issues.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Yes the doc just said that there is no way of knowing whether it is a stone or calcification. So they have to go in at a certain size. Then she suggested no red meat or pork as it contributes to calcification, however Joe is anemic so they are also encouraging red meats right now. So that is a tough one for us. The weather right now is so comical. I cannot even begin to describe what she is doing. Mother nature does need an attitude adjustment though.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday

@Ronnie_happy2ranch Every time we talk I am inspired more and more!! Hey, congrats on being a no smoker!! You join a long list of us who have quit. May many others follow our examples!! For me, though it's been a very long time. I only smoked briefly as a teen. I did enjoy it, a lot. One of thought watching my stepfather dying of emphysema would have discouraged me, but when we are young we don't often think that way. You are a wonderful example of the strong changes and woman you are in doing so much for your health and helping us also along the way!! I've been at this for 14 years and I STILL learn from many, including YOU!
@Tabatha_Cain Awww sweet on the crib for your and Joe's D!!! SWEET!! That'll help her so much. My GD was so fussy on the crib for the older boy when he was born for the 2nd one LOL not so much. It's sort of comical, but yeah the 1st born is a new experience and almost everything needs to be new, the 2nd kid not so much. Will both D's be having a baby shower? Are either of them going to be Jack and Jill? I've been to a few that were super fun. Poor Joe and you it's hard when 2 conditions contradict each other! I have both chronic kidney disease (Stage 3A bordering on 3b) where I am told "drink a lot of water, up to 110 ozs a day, but I am also in heart failure where I am told "no more than 64 ozs." I listen to my regular Dr who says "If you are thirsty drink more that means you are dehydrated."
@Patti241 How did the weekend go at home? I've lost 1 good friend, I still miss her.
@changewewanttosee SUPER CONGRATS!!! WTG!! How long have you been sober? That's fantastic!
Like you, I have ZERO desire to drink again. The consequences are just way too high. I hated how I felt, never wanted that again nor to lose my family and friends. WOOHOO @GlitteriestWarriorQueen LOVE IT!! Look us cheering each other on!! It does get much easier as time goes by until something very hard happens, always be ready for it!! It'll happen most likely at your worst time. Please be ready to get through it without a drink!
@yakkystuff WOOHOO Keep your eyes open to find your invite this week!! WHERE will you find your invite? TY For asking! LOL okay you didn't, but I'll put it in here for our newbies.

@carebear6350812 WB with a new to us name!! WOOHOO!! Please do keep your eyes out for your invite to your team!! Most will be out later this week. When will you know for sure? Keep checking this team under Announcements!! The date(s) will show.
HOW EXCITING!! I can tell for many of us this is OUR GOING TO BE OUR BEST CHALLENGE!!!! So nice to be getting back to basics for many of us as time goes by we tend to not do the things we did at first. They work!

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. Today is Monday and it is back to work. I feel exhausted. I may need to take a couple hours this morning and get some more sleep. I think that is going to be rough. I just really feel like I did not sleep well. I was up twice last night to use the restroom. That is so exhausting. Plus I feel I did not sleep well. Yesterday was a pretty good day. I am hoping this week will be a good week.

    @carebear6350812 - Welcome.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - That does sound like a good idea. Make sure you are drinking enough by only drinking if you are thirsty. I think both the girls are having a jack and jill style party. I think it is going to be great. They will love it. It is amazing that neither of our daughters are concerned about new stuff for the baby. Both got gently used cribs. They were both really happy about that and the matching gently used changing table. I am really excited for both babies.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.

    Tabatha

Potatoes are quite versatile, which might explain why so manypeople like them. They are the number one consumed vegetable in the UnitedStates. And when you consider how many ways we can eat the over 200 differentkinds of potatoes in the United States, you shouldn't be surprised.

First off, we can bake them. Whodoesn't like a baked potato? Yeah, we see you in back. Put your hand down. Therest of us absolutely love the baked spud. Plus those baked potatoes? You canbake them twice with all sorts of delicious toppings. Twice! Secondly, we canboil them. And from the boiled potatoes we can make soups, salads, or make oneof the world's all-time favorite potato dishes - mashed potatoes. And did youknow, mashed potatoes have numerous different recipes, too? You can't haveshepherd's pie without mashed potatoes. Dice them and slice them and we canmake scalloped, fried, or even hashbrowns. And then, there's potato dumplingsand pancakes.

Beyond all the ways we use potatoes, this day may haveoriginally had a different meaning. At the beginning of April, parts ofKentucky celebrated the sweet potato (Tater Day). Sweet potatoes are one of themain cash crops in that area. Tater Day started way back in the early 1840swith the trading and selling of sweet potatoes. It is the oldest continuoustrade day in the United States.

Worldwide, there are morethan four thousand potato varieties.

Since the time potatoes were shipped from Europe to the coloniesin the early 17th century, their consumption has been a major part of the NorthAmerican diet.

@changewewanttosee , So sorry about the relapses, though you can use them as a building foundation. And help others to see this happens. I went through detox 2 times. Keep building that up. It's a great freedom without the issues which come with drinking. Sometimes we want to remember the good about a habit and tend to downplay or forget all of the negatives. These same skills help with not going into the hole of food as a crutch. The hardest for me break was over buying stuff. Just stuff. That's now under control.

@yakkystuff , Super Congrats on your up coming 20 years of not smoking! That's huge! As you think back to how you felt, add in 20 more years if you had continued to do so, highly likely your breathing would not be nearly as well as it is. Great decision!

@Tabatha_Cain , love how both girls have the sense to get gently used cribs (and likely some other stuff) with that people can get them more items! Cool that they've each gotten matching stuff with them! Awwww love the Jack and Jill. Dad's will be there for the little ones lives including them only makes sense! A friend had a double shower (the girls were friends) both of them with their 1st child. One game was the 2 new Dad's, lol blind folded, diapering life like baby dolls. They filled the diapers with ketchup, mustard and relish. But the Dads were NOT told they had been filled. Poor Ben was literally gagging! We were laughing hard! He kept on trying though. It's been 20 plus years. It's as funny today as it was at that time! Did you get to rest B4 work? How did it go?

@Patti241 Good Day Patti. How did it go?

Grew up in a poor family in Idaho, the leading potato-farm capital of America. Between how many meals my family served potatoes due to their cheap cost, plus the number of school/Scout functions which served potatoes (potato bar, anyone?) I came to absolutely despise potatoes, and from the time I left home for college I swore to never eat potatoes again.

Well, never is an awful long time, and eventually I married a woman who loves potatoes. Being the family chef and a doting husband who gives my wife whatever she wants, I made sure to serve meals which included potatoes 1-2 times per week to keep her happy. Initially I just ate around the potatoes, but over time I started eating a few bites here, a few more bites there.

Finally now, 30 years after leaving my parents' home, I'm back to enjoying potatoes again. Provided I'm eating them at most a couple times per week…
