    In the green — hurray!

    I am so glad I did a mid-week weigh-in for myself and started adjusting. Also a big hurray to having a plan for Father's Day. My husband chose a restaurant where I could get vegan hot and sour soup, which was delicious, light and filling. It did give me a challenge for logging my food, as one of the vegetables is a new one to me — Elephant Ear Stalks - Bạc Hà. I am going to look for this one at the Asian market near me, as they had a lovely texture.

    @baodell17724 - I'd be game for Slimpossible Zoom gatherings.

    @baodell17724 - The term "fibermaxxing" is new to me, but I do pay attention to eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, and I do have a fiber goal set on MFP.

    Re. canned beans: I do buy canned as a shortcut. Here in Texas, at least, I can get “no fat refried beans,” both pinto and black. I sometimes cook from dry and sometimes do not. When I get canned, though, I go for cooked beans in a can, minimal additives, for sure.

    Congratulations in the big loss!

    @vegan4lyfe2012 - How is your read of “Master Your Mind” coming along? I hope your goal of more fresh/less processed food is doing well.

    As a belated reply to your question about what folks are eating, I am doing food planning for the week today, and was reminded that I have not made Zucchini Noodles with Broth-Sauteed Vegetables in a while. So that's on my list. I also want to make a pitcher of ginger lemon water.

    @DrewsAnna - The steakhouse dinner sounded amazing! Nutella is scary good. I just can’t go near it.

    @Katmary71 - The kittens are sososo cute! Thank you for saying my black cat is cute. He’s such a sweetheart. Your description of basil bundles made me envious. I love basil. I should try (again) to grow it.

    The Board meeting went well. The two people I had been feeling grumpy with showed up and I feel like things got ironed out. One apologized and said his diabetes meds have been making him snappish. The other said thanks for working on things rather than why aren’t you getting your volunteer work done faster, and I took that as an olive branch.

    @alimalli86 - Congratulations on the mileSTONE!

    Does “cwtch” rhyme with “put?” I have zero knowledge of how to pronounce anything Welsh, and am super curious.

    @micaroo4 - Thank you for posting as you work on maintenance. It’s inspiring!

    @trooworld - Thanks for the compliments on my black cat, Habibi. I do think he’s lovely but admit to being biased. :-D

    @trooworld I googled pug poodle cross , no wonder you had a hard time walking away! My condo has the same two dog rule, sometimes for me, it is a very good thing🤣.   I'm sorry that you had a bad night sleep, good for you going to the gym at 5 AM!! How did you make out going on your own? It sounds like you do great workout!  As I was reading your post I was thinking what a wise decision you made with the food you ordered, it sounded delicious, I wish it would have been🥴. We just have one fair here during the summer now, I find it ridiculously expensive, I don't go anymore. We do have a ton of summer festivals, those are always great and if it's one that I know the food is going to be crazy I just bring a backpack with some lunch in it.

    My spin class got cancelled this morning, so it was an odds and sods day  here. It was a beautiful day, not too hot and the wind. Got tons of running around then I think I am finished with my perennial beds as well. I will put up a picture of the perennial bed outside of my patio and then the inner corner of my patio. I was able to stay on track today got in my 10,000 steps and no eating after seven! Hope everybody had a great day!

    @baodell17724 I like the canned beans info, I eat a lot of them. I’m able to get good ones around here like @AustinRuadhain mentioned . The Instant Pot really is awesome for beans I need to start using it again, my favorite was black bean refried beans. Cooking dried beans helps the sodium issue.

    @TeresaW2024 Thinking of you and Joe and sending prayers up for you two.

    @trooworld WOW between the two of us we could open a gym with our home exercise equipment! Oh no I can’t believe you forgot to start your watch! I’m glad the baby shower went well I’m glad it was the “cool” people from work! Oh my goodness the fair sounds like it would be hard not to take a pet home. Great control from you and your husband choosing to eat when you got home instead of at the fair. If only it had tasted as good as you were hoping, shoot.

    @Cornanda Good luck to your daughter on the job interviews!

    @txcritter69 Congratulations on 30lbs down!

    CONGRATULATIONS ON 3RD PLACE MISSION SLIMPOSSIBLES! GREAT JOB LEADING THE PACK @AustinRuadhain @alimalli86 @DrewsAnna !

    @laurelfit57 I’m so glad Ty is being better on walks that would definitely make one more likely to walk them if they behave. My brother’s dog is pretty crazy on the leash and I have awful balance so I don’t feel comfortable taking her or pet sitting for her as I don’t think I could control her. You’re so good at taking the dogs for long walks I’m surprised the river valley trail wears you out! Your perennial bed looks beautiful.

    @AustinRuadhain I’m glad you were able to find something you could eat during your Father’s Day celebration. I’ve never had Bac Ha how interesting! I think the closest I’ve had is Hearts of Palm. I’m glad the board meeting went well, I’m glad everything is smoothed over. We have one of the previous board members complaining a lot and suggesting what we should be doing, ours is next weekend I hope it’s smoothed over too.

    @bobboyardee Congrats on the scale being wrong for a good reason!

    Hi friends! Been feeling worn out, the topical ketamine cream I’m using is mixed with gabapentin and I hadn’t realized it makes you tired which stinks, I was thinking of it being more like volteran or lidocaine. My roommate and her daughter picked up the rest of her things and are on their way to Oklahoma, I miss her being here. Been doing a lot of mushroom making the last couple days when you get to the 3rd generation of everything you need a ridiculous amount of supplies! We’re trying to get things figured out to have them ready for the farmstand on weekends. Kittens are doing great they’re talking to me and letting me pet them (still a bit skittish but one decided he likes being pet which is nice). They’re eating great and have a ton of energy! My guys still aren’t thrilled but they’ve gone in the room. I took a plant stand I have and was able to make a fence out of it to have in the doorway so the cats could observe each other (of course a kitten showed me how easy it was to climb right away). I finally got one of my trellises done tonight which was the big one, have two small ones to make then I can put away all the fencing. I made Healthy Oatmeal Zucchini Banana Bread with some bananas my SIL gave me, it came out good but needs toasting in the air fryer to taste the best. Made a healthier broccoli salad too. Two women from the rescue group are coming over to give me some guidance tomorrow then I have a phone appointment. Have a great Tuesday gang!

    @Katmary71 - That’s a really helpful tip, thank you! I have a border collie who’s 13 but still thinks he’s a puppy lol. Sorry to hear your feeling worn out, hope you feel better soon! Those kittens are gorgeous, especially the grey with hints of orange 🥰

    @TeresaW2024 - sorry to hear about Joe, keeping you in my thoughts and hope he comes home soon.

    @AustinRuadhain

    Ha ha thank you😊 it’s pronounced like butch but with a C. We do have some funny words to be fair lol That hot and sour soup sounds yummy!

    @bobboyardee

    Congrats on the weigh in, that’s fab!

    It's Tuesday. Monday is over. 😀

    @trooworld @Katmary71 - I finished "The Things we Leave Unfinished" (that sounds sort of funny) Anyway- I'd say it's a good read overall- on the lighter side. Now I'm reading "the Weight of Ink"- it's for my book club and I'm not excited about it- 760 pages about obsurobscure — pause- that is an example of the jibberish typing I talked about……I think it may be a lousy spelling corrector…… obscure documents found in an old house in England

    @Katmary71 - LOVE the kitten photos!

    On my Mayo Diet FB page, someone posted that at the end of the week, they take all the unused veggies out of their fridge and roast them- they are all thrown on one tray. Then they get used for salads and wraps. I thought this was a good idea to avoid throwing out the veggies that got nasty. Also a shortcut if you make egg bites or egg muffins- just cook your recipe in a pan and then slice into appropriate size squares- a little bit less work….

    @Katmary71 I so need to come to your house and immerse myself in some kitty therapy! 😍

    @Cornanda I love a sheet pan of roasted veggies ! 😋

    Good morning! We got home late yesterday afternoon, and I was so happy to get up this morning and not have to rush to the hospital. Joe is doing much better, but I am worried because there is a good chance this will happen again. I had a call from one of the doctors asking if I wanted to talk to the surgical team about doing a colon resection. Uh, NO, thank you! Putting an 82-year-old dementia patient under anesthesia for a serious surgery doesn’t sound like a good idea to me! I have to make an appointment with a GI doctor and will talk to him about what we should do. In the meantime, I need to get him moving around and eating. Today, I have to do some church work and clean my house for Joe’s family, who is coming on Friday. Right now, I only want Joe to be OK through this visit with his family, which has been stressing me out so much! I’m not surprised I had a gain this week. It seems I treat hospital stays like I do road trips and need ALL the snacks! I’m very puffy this morning and plan to hit up my mom for one of her water pills. OK, I gotta get going and get stuff done! 🙂

    DISCUSSION QUESTION: How do you reset after a day or week that didn’t go as planned? Ha, this question is for me!! 😀I find the best thing is to just jump back into my regular routine. Today, I will return to my normal eating and get in some movement.

    DISCUSSION QUESTION: How do you reset after a day or week that didn’t go as planned?

    I love that "day or week" is part of the question. Setting up life so that I am thinking about a plan and checking in with other people is so key. Otherwise, that off-plan behavior quickly drifts into becoming the new normal. (I am digging myself out of that exact problem now.)

    As it happens, yesterday evening was off plan for me. I had a chance to eat dinner with my son last night. I chose a place I could get something reasonable for me, and put something between me and the chips and queso that he ordered. I came home and logged it. I got up this morning and weighed myself. I was up 0.4. Great reality check. I can still be down for the week if I hop back to it today. No need to wait until next Monday for a reset. So today, I will extend my fasting window a bit (we ate later than I usually do) and be sure to eat to plan. I did do food planning and shopping yesterday, so I am set up to win in that way.

    @Katmary71 - Your kitten pictures are so, so delightful! By the way, we have the same water fountain for cats. I picked one up when my older cat was sick a few months ago. (He's better now.) I hope the board meeting this weekend goes well!

    @TeresaW2024 - Your plan for today sounds great! I am glad that it looks like you can have a more normal day today! Do what you can to take care of you. We are always glad to hear how you are doing. It sounds like you are doing a great job making smart decisions for your husband (no general anethesia), and that sounds like hard work.

    @baodell17724 - Re. blackberries and potatoes — I sympathize! On the other hand, I am happy that I decided to make a cauliflower dish this week! ;-)

    @trooworld - "Habibi" is an Arabic word that gets translated as "my dear" or "my darling." The original finder of the kitten kept saying "hey, baby" to him and then started saying "habibi," as she learned that word from a friend. He's a really bright cat and was already reacting to that name when I took on cat sitting him just a day or two after he was found, so I kept calling him that. He is also Bibi or Beebster for short. By the way, after cat sitting him for a few weeks, I negotiated keeping him in exchange for paying the fees so that the finder could have a rescue cat from the shelter, as I had gotten really attached to Bibi. He's two years old now, and still super playful. Thanks for asking! It's so fun to tell pet stories.

    @Cornanda - Roasting vegetables when they have started to go south sounds like a great approach. I will try it! I do something similar with aging veggies and all leftovers, learned from a man whose father had lived through the great depression. He made leftover soup every week. At the end of the week, all the dribs and drabs in the fridge go into a pot to become soup. You can edit if you think a couple of things will taste bad together, but usually things work out.

    I was already planning to roast veggies this week. I picked up an eggplant and tomatoes to go with the zucchini and onions I already have, with the idea of making a sheet pan ratatouille. I will just chop things up, sprinkle salt and pepper, and roast on a sheet with parchment paper (paper needed since I do not use oil).

    @trooworld - A big yes to making broth. I accidentally ended up with two bunches of celery, and am planning to make a broth. I'll add seaweed and turmeric and then have it to drink during the day.

    @alimalli86 - The vegan hot and sour soup was indeed grand! I may try to figure out how to do something similar at home.

    Hi 👋

    @Katmary71 those kittens are so cute, I wish I could come through the phone and love them a little...

    I've been busy, between a little of dusting, a little bit of decluttering, a little weeding and a tiny bit of dancing (it hurts to do that), I feel like I have accomplished a lot and I'm moving…

    I have noticed that sugar is really upsetting my stomach. I feel nauseated when I eat it. Yesterday, I had oatmeal for breakfast, I put in 1 unpacked tablespoon of brown sugar and I got so nauseous after I finished eating it. I know that it's good to not be able to eat sweets, but I'm still getting the food noise in my head. Maybe, it's a learning process.

    I'm getting my grandson for a week very early in the morning. I'm not sure what we are going to do, but we will figure it out. There's a lot going on around here right now.

    Y'all have a great day 😀

    @alimalli86 Thank you !

    @micaroo4 Thank you and you ’re welcome!

    @Cornanda I just placed a hold on The Things We Leave Unfinished , it has a 17 week wait so it will be awhile! Yikes that’s a long book if you’re not enjoying it. Thanks for kitty compliments! I love the veggie idea I used to do that but haven’t been as good about it lately.

    @trooworld A pug poodle mix would be so irresistible ! Yes I’m planning to get another roommate, the one who came and looked before my last one may be moving in around August if all goes well. Woohoo you’re getting better with the watch! That’s serious dedication going to the gym so early, it is like a whole other group of people who get up that early. The cheesesteak skillet sounds delicious!

    How do you reset after a day or week that didn’t go as planned? Just get back to cutting out junk and stepping up workouts, just need to stick with it longer than I do!

    @TeresaW2024 I ’d love to have you over to pet kittens! Hugs you’ve been through a lot this week please be gentle with yourself. Honestly I kind of do that too when my pain is bad enough to go to the hospital. I hope there’s other options that will work for Joe where he won’t need surgery. Hope you get everything done today!

    @AUstinRaudhain I ’m glad you’re feeling inspired to reset now wtg! That’s a great idea to put something between you and the chips. Great job setting yourself up for success with shopping and food planning! Thank you! I love that fountain I bought it as a birthday gift for my cats. I was just given another where the water falls into a pool and figured the cats would find a way to fall in so I’m trusting that fountain with them. Your sheet pan meal sounds delicious!

    @DrewsAnna I wish you could hang out with the kittens too ! Hm I wonder if the food noise would be gone if you didn’t eat sugar? Is there a difference if you don’t? Have a wonderful time with your grandson!

    Hi gang! Had a fire alarm go off at 2AM, they’re all real high in the house but luckily it was one I could get to (brother usually comes and he’s in Washington DC) so I got the ladder and changed it and went back to bed. After working out I worked in the yard on the trellises, there’s a gopher going around the poles and they’re falling over so it’s turning into a big PITA! I was trying to hammer one in when another one fell and damaged my pepper plants, grr! I dumped water where they are and am going to go out and try hammering them down some more in the morning. The women from the rescue group were happy with how well the kittens are doing, they had some good ideas for rearranging the room too. They’re trying to make fostering less stressful for new people and brought me a packet of information and some stuff for the kittens to borrow and we rearranged the room a bit. Have a great Wednesday team!

    Cute Kittens! We tried to take the purple trike back, but they refused to list the return condition on the paperwork, so we brought it back home and have started Small Claim proceedings. If it got damaged at their place there was no way for us to prove that. I even printed out pictures to make it easier.

    I drove to Walnut and bought a new trike on Saturday morning. I love it, it's very different, it has 2 motors and 2 batteries, so it has lots of power for the hill around here. It's semi recumbent, I just lean back and pedal.

    DISCUSSION QUESTION: How do you reset after a day or week that didn’t go as planned?

    Fortunately, the last "week" that didn't go as planned, turned into "two months" from mid-November 2024 to mid-January 2025 where I gained back 20 lbs !!! 😫 (At least, I eventually got my head 'back in the game', and didn't give up on the "dieting" as had happened so many times before.) Now that I have a men's online TOPS group to attend, I'm hoping the Holidays don't screw me up again !!!😕

    Currently, I've only slipped for a day or two at a time. My rule of thumb is to either do a 24-36 hour fast (includes sleeping) OR a 500-calorie day, the next day. I'm retired, and am not busy during the day except for my 2 hours exercising, so this is something I can do fairly easily. (Just need to drink lots of water.) I also spend some time thinking about why I indulged / over-ate… usually it's because someone gave me some free processed food I no longer buy, or I didn't get enough protein.

    @FushiaKat

    What is the "brand name" for that Trike? I've been thinking about getting one for myself, which would get me out of the house more. I now live in a very small rural PA town, where there isn't a flat-surface anywhere (all hills). So walking with a rollator is impossible.

    DISCUSSION QUESTION: How do you reset after a day or week that didn't go as planned? I presume we are talking about going off-plan with food. My reset is to get right back on plan for the very next meal. Even when I'm on vacation (like now), I can always find something on the menu that will be on plan. If I have a particularly bad slip up, I will get out my journal and write. Writing helps me think. I'll analyze how I was feeling before, during, and after the indulgence. I also have a little script in my head that helps me prevent the slip up. When my brain is suggesting that a little bit won't matter, or that it's just one meal, or that it's a "special occasion", my sensible self will answer with "Why would you want to cheat on your goals?" or "Temptation is a lot easier to avoid than to resist", or "At LEAST eat a serving of vegetables FIRST".

    Broth/soup is a nice idea for unused veggies - thanks for the idea

    @TeresaW2024 - welcome home from the hospital. Wishing you well as you get Joe settled and get ready for this visit on Friday. I hope it will be a good visit and not stressful. The timing is not great, but what can you do?

    @FushiaKat - hope you are able to get money back for the old trike. Seems they are not willing to stand behind their product, which is disappointing. Yay for a new trike!

    @AustinRuadhain Thank you! Taking care of myself can be a struggle. I know it’s not good when I can’t remember the last day, I worked out. 😄 Good job putting something between you and the queso and chips. Being up .4 is nothing but a little water weight.

    @Katmary71 Ugh, you just reminded me that I am way overdue for changing the batteries in our smoke detectors. I'd better put that on the list before one of us gets woken in the middle of the night, too. So, how long will you foster the kitties? Is this going to be a thing you do now? I think it’s such a fun thing to do as long as you don’t get too attached and become that crazy lady who grows plants and has a million cats. 😂

    @FushiaKat I’m sorry you have to go through the small claims route. I love the new trike! I really hope this one lasts and doesn’t give you trouble. 🙂

    @microo4 I LOVE your answer to this week’s question. My food choices were terrible while Joe was in the hospital! I could have chosen better, but I didn’t, and that is something I have to change because there will be more hospital stays, and eating like I did this week is only hurting me and my goals. Thank you! 😀

    @Cornanda , I have been so worried that Joe would get sick when his family visited. Now I’m just praying we get through their two-day visit without any drama. 😬

    @trooworld You definitely need to take breaks when your body needs it! I’m not surprised you are sleeping better now that you are increasing your movement. That happens to me, too. I’m jealous of your weather. We are entering our summer, and it’s been in the high 80s and muggy as a sauna.

    Good morning! Joe had a much better day yesterday. We were watching TV last night, and a Taco Bell commercial came on, and he said the food looked good. He hates Taco Bell, so I know he must be feeling better. 😂 Today, I will continue to clean and prepare for our company on Friday. Have a good day! ☺️

    @bobboyardee it was the finishing touch to make it complete 😊

    @Katmary71 I until now wouldn't let anyone else walk Ty , she was way too unpredictable. I let my grandkids walk her now, but only with her harness on and the hook in the front, they are able to manage and I am an arms length away.  It's not the River Valley Trail that wears me out it is the trail that goes down into it, that I have to walk back up.  It is about a 30 minute walk at a very good incline, my quads are on fire for the first month 🥴.

    I'm sorry you've been feeling worn out, really glad you found the cause of it though. That's got to be tough without your roommate when you got along so well!  It sounds like you're doing so great with those kittens, getting them well socialized♥️.  Thank you for sharing the pictures, they are just way too cute !!! You have been a very busy woman!

    @Cornanda thanks for the tip on the veggies and the egg bites ! I was just thinking that I was going to have to make up some egg bites to freeze, hate cleaning those little muffin tins. Definitely going to cook them in a pan, thanks!

    @trooworld good for you for getting to the gym and getting your workout done on your own ! I know it can be a bit intimidating at first, but it sounds like you are away to the races. Glad you remembered to start your watch lol that dinner you made that sounds delicious.

    @FushiaKat nice trike !!

    @TeresaW2024 so glad that Joe had a better day , I hope all goes well with your company on Friday.

    Well it was a super busy day yesterday. Went to the gym in the morning, met a friend for lunch and then went over to my son and daughter-in-law's to watch the hockey game last night. Unfortunately our team did not do well at all, it was a very good thing that I brought Vannie and Ty, they were amazing support animals. I'll attach a couple of pictures.

    I did really well food wise yesterday, I was proud of myself for not over indulging. We all went to my son and daughter-in-law's for a barbeque and to watch the game. I had a hamburger, a handful of chips(I did not go back for more, nor did I nibble on them throughout the game) and some salad. On my way home, I really really wanted to stop for some chips. I made a deal with myself that I could have some of my homemade pita chips, with a little melted cheese and guacamole when I got home. I only had four of my pita chips with a little melted cheese, that's satisfied my craving :-).

    I will tell you a little story behind my pride flag in my perennial garden. I really do get lost in my own little bubble of people and can be unaware of what is going on in the world around me. I have people of all ages, abilities, orientations, nationalities etc in my little corner of the world.  The other day a friend from Agility put a post on Facebook saying, last year they had put a pride flag in the front of their house and their house was egged. A few people that she knew, stated that similar things had happened to them. I was really surprised, thinking that never happened here, apparently I had my blinders on. I am not a political person but I will always be an ally to anyone who needs an ally. So I now have a beautiful flag in my perennial garden😊.

    Now here are a couple of pictures to make you smile as my dogs are offering up all sorts of love as our team got trounced
