@SummerSkier , Bravo for sticking with tracking and I’m so glad that you enjoying the practice.

@hcoleman232 , celebrate your success with the flossing. Remember positivity is the goal, so focus on the wins.

@SummerSkier , yes this month is going FAST! Ha ha 🤣! One thing nice about fasting is that it isn’t another thing to DO. I just have to NOT eat until a little later than usual.

@snowshoe072 , bravo on the HIIT workout! Hot weather makes an air conditioned gym very appealing. The heat makes it hard to exercise with only early morning or twilight being available.

I’m listening to Fast Like a Girl . It’s interesting - may pull back from the longer fasts since on one of her YouTube videos the author recommends cycling 15 hour fasts 5 days a week with one no fasting day and one 17 hour for post menopausal women, which is me, in order to preserve/gain muscle. I need to do more research.

@SummerSkier Enjoying the practice is HUGE. Great job!

@hcoleman232 Flossing is a great habit. Keep up the great work!

@snowshoe072 Super job on HIIT! It is tough to do anything when the heat and humidity sucks the breath out of the air.

@77tes Very interesting about the cycling of fasting times. Keep asking questions and getting answers.

I found out our library has Hoopla App to checkout e-books and other media products. I found that they have Great Courses. I LOVE Great Courses. So many topics. I started a course: Building your Resilience: Finding Meaning in Adversity. It is very interesting so far. I did an evaluation and I did very poorly in self-care and balance between mental stimulus and mental rest. I don't do well processing sad, concerned, upset emotions if there aren't any fixes. It was an interesting evaluation.

@Learningmoments , hooray for getting the Hoopla app through your library. You’re going to love it. I’m sorry to say that I am getting some training in being resilient in adversity. Frankly, all the habits I’ve been working on for the last couple years are my efforts at self-care in hard times.

@Learningmoments , thanks for kind words and prayers. 🫂 You and the others in this group are a great encouragement to me. Lucy is pretty cute, but she brings in lots of dirt and dust and goes wild when I try to remedy the situation. So getting her to let me clean is a huge win.

@SummerSkier , thanks for all your encouragement. Singing and dancing is a great stress reliever for me and I can usually come up with a song for every occasion. I love 😍 the meme! I’ve already shared it in my weightloss group on Facebook. Bravo on tracking the feasting! 👏👏That can be such a tedious chore, but is a good way to keep things real.

Yup @77tes I think the #1 thing for me to "close the kitchen" is making sure I brush, water pic and get ready for bed in general…..

The day after feasting is usually pretty rough for me but got thru it ok yesterday. I have a tendency to want to "make up" for it which usually just makes for another bad day or two if I allow it so resisted and just had a normal day. I did call my brother in the morning and talk for about an hour and we did get some nice rain. I don't really like talking to my brother that much (shhhh ) because he is rarely asks me about anything going on with me and when he does I get 2 sentences in before we are back to him and his family. It's ok as I am pretty much used to it after so long. 🙂😏 and I do like to catch up on all the goings on with the nieces/nephews/grands etc…

@SummerSkier , That day after a feast is always tricky- those cravings need to be forced back into their cage. I’m worried about next weekend. It’s Costume College and my sister will be visiting, so it’s all fun although it’s not about the food. We usually take healthy lunches and snacks and have a nice couple of restaurant meals. But we definitely don’t do fasting and I don’t want to make her feel like she can’t eat. So I think I’ll push my fasts longer Monday-Thursday and then figure I’ll be cycling with short fasts or no fasts) over the weekend.

@hcoleman232 , That song is so funny! Perfect

that song is exactly right altho I wish it were not so male oriented. LOL.

@77tes if it is getting easier perhaps that means the habit is stabilizing!

I had an hour of joyfulness yesterday and was dancing around my kitchen. I can't exactly explain but most of the time I am sort of bla and then out of nowhere I was listening to some music and just felt uplifted and happy. I am not sure what brings it on but I wish I had that 24/7.

@77tes It is funny how brushing, flossing, and all really helps to prevent the indulge from happening. Great job! Homemade brownies are hard to resist. Your plans for cycling the fasting sounds like a good plan. Having company is tricky. I am proud of you for having some healthy meals. Sounds like you are doing a good job guarding the calories. I had to look up "We are Happy People". I don't know that I have heard that one. I am glad fasting times are getting easier. Just curious, did you have a career involving music or just love it? You amaze me that you are reminded of songs everyday. I look forward to your daily song. Keep singing:)

@SummerSkier Super job keeping it a regular day after the feast. It is so easy to get the yoyo effect going. So proud of you for stopping it before it got momentum. I totally understand about the one sided conversations. I used to think I needed to keep all friendships going and felt like I only existed in my own head because no one really ever asked about me. Now I have trimmed down the friends that were just using me and found better friends. I still have a few relatives that are one sided. I still laugh when I get off the phone with them. I wonder if they ever stop to consider they don't know me because they never ask anything about me. It is so odd. I love that you had a kitchen dance party. Music is magical. When I feel blah, I put on a 50s/60s music. So many good songs back then. It always makes me smile. I find if I don't make the time for music, I lose my joyful Spirit. It becomes heavy with the (my) world.

@hcoleman232 I love that songs. Thanks for sharing. It cracked me up.

@donna25trinity I really enjoyed seeing your evaluation. Sounds like you are getting a lot of good insight. Keep up the great work!

Sorry I got busy. I have met several big deadlines so got a chance to relax with all 6 grandkids. So much fun. This Thursday, I have several things with family that I am very concerned with. So I am prepping food and trying to stay distracted from worry.

I have been thinking about my August habit to work on. My morning routine seems to have two hiccups. One, is if I don't have time to exercise, I would like to have a go to exercise that isn't very long. I have done small 'exercise snacks' but only as a supplement throughout the day. I thought about planks and leg lifts, but so far, it hasn't worked. My brain says it isn't enough to make it count, but if I don't have time for the longer workout, then it would be better than nothing. Have any of you made a habit of small exercise time?

Second, is having a meal plan. Hubby and I are both tired of the usual. Neither of us have time for coming up with something new. I thought about meal service, but worried that it would not be big enough portions. I thought maybe this should be my habit to work on. I would appreciate any insight you have on these habits. Could I work on both or would it be better to stick to one since both not going well right now.

hey @Learningmoments small bits work workouts is great.... it all adds up! its all about getting more movement in ur day so doesnt really matter how u do it...lesdard in the uac group is a firm believer in neat workouts she does tiny workouts for eg while waiting for the bus etc. google neat for more dets....more movement def means more nrg.... I totally get ur issue of time factor.. it can be so difficult to squeeze it in to ur day... I work at a desk job so hve to be super concious of this. I like ur idea of smaller workouts.... as long as ur actively trying to get some movement in u will be fine.

@SummerSkier i cld so see u dancing in the kitchen.. love it.. music has this way of making everything ok, fun and light! I totally agree! I find wen we are younger music is such a part of who we are, it's so imp6... then as we mature we can forget to turn it on and reconnect to that side of ourselves. I've been putting it on in the car while my son and I drive... so he is into all my girlie songs now lol

@Learningmoments , my mom had a beautiful soprano voice and a subscription to an LP every month, so growing up I was surrounded with music. Then I was an elementary school teacher for about a million years. I really miss singing every day with my class. “We Are Happy People” is an old Sunday School chorus.

I sympathize with trying to squeeze exercise into a day with too many things. But recent research is definitely showing that exercise snacks are beneficial, like @donna25 trinity pointed out about NEAT . It’s definitely better than nothing.

"Exercise Snacks" May Be as Good as (or Better than) Traditional Workouts - Blue Zones

@dona25trinity , I like your idea of peppermint tea to help with hydration. I like herbal tea in the winter too. Good for you getting that second dumbbell workout already.

I agree exercise snacks WORK! I cannot ever get myself to do weightlifting but I did do 10 minutes every day for a few months and it really worked. Where I failed was that I tried to increase it all the time and eventually stopped. If I had stuck with the 10 minutes I would be stronger and still going. Hmmm.. August idea💡

    2 more days to go.

Wish me luck - 2 fillings at the dentist this morning but I dread those a lot less than crowns and such. I think they are both on my eye teeth which is strange and they showed up between cleanings of 5 months. Just goes to show with me I gotta keep up with appts and the habits.

@donna25trinity @77tes @SummerSkier Thank you all so much! My next goal is exercise snacks. @SummerSkier Thanks especially to the warning of always trying to increase the time. I think that is why it didn't become a habit for me before. I always felt like it was a start, but needed to increase. That is great observation. Good luck with your dentist appointment. That is odd to be on your eye teeth.

Enjoy your day. I am off to swim classes.

Loving the exercise snack discussion! I may even consider that as a theme for a month in the future (not August since I have that post pretty much ready to go)! Still, if that’s what you want to work on next month, totally go for it.

@SummerSkier , hope that dentist appointment went well. I have a filling on an eye tooth, actually it is partly on my front tooth on that side. It’s been there for years with no further problems.

@Learningmoments I bet that swim class was wonderful! Good going!

See yall in August. And not sure what the habit will be yet.
