Leave you BPC recipes here :)

So I've been drinking BPC now for a little while and I do enjoy it but often wish its taste was a bit more satisfying. My recipe is as follows:
12oz brewed coffee
2 tblsp butter
2 tblsp coconut oil
Blend it.
Simple and effective, yet lacking something. Occasionally I will throw in some organic cocoa powder that I got from Grenada and it will give it another taste, but it's still a bit bitter.
Dragonwolf has been posting some experimental recipes and inspired me to make this post to get as many recipes together in one place as possible.
Only other obstacle, has anyone tried Mark Sisson's primal BPC with the eggs, and does it have the same kind of calories etc as regular BPC? I saw one single listing in the database for Primal BPC and yet it had in carbs. I thought this was strange. Would like some recipes and some advice on the calories and carb (if any) content of BPC made with eggs. I want to try it but I also watch my carb intake like a hawk so I need to be able to work it into my day.
Thanks friends!

When I was making it, I was doing:
12 oz coffee
1 TB butter
1TB coconut oil
1TB cocoa powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup coconut cream (I know it's not how most people do it, but it made it taste like a cafe mocha...so good!)0 -
I'm so boring:
10 oz coffee
half tbsp (give or take) unsalted butter (if I had grassfed that's what I would use)
half tbsp (give or take) extra virgin coconut oil
I don't use as much in each cup as some do because I drink 3 to 6 coffees every day. I don't like to drink all my calories. Once in a blue moon I might put in a bit of cocoa (unsweetened, organic etc). I'm not a big chocolate fiend though.
I thought I could never give up cream. Now I dread my holidays when I will use it again... unless I pack along my immersion blender. lol There's an idea....0 -

This sounds pretty interesting actually. Might give this a try. Was also toying with the idea of making my coffee the night before and blending it in the morning with whatever I want and drinking it cold. Hmmm.0 -
I make:
12 oz organic coffee
1 tbsp organic heavy whipping cream
1 tbsp MCT
10-15 drops liquid stevia English Toffee, maybe not so primal but sooo good
I love Kerrygold butter but haven't quite worked my way up to trying it in coffee. As is mine has been filling enough.0 -
I make tea but here's the recipe anyway.
1 Tbsp Assam or Nilgiri Tea
1 Tbsp Ghee or Grass fed Butter
1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1/8 Cup Coconut Milk
1 Tsp Cocoa Powder
Few grinds of Himalayan Salt
Cardamom Pods
Cloves
I brew my tea with a few cardamom pods and a clove or two. Meanwhile combine all the other ingredients in a magic bullet cup. When tea is brewed, pour into the cup with other ingredients and whir it up until combined and frothy. It's delicious!!! If i drank coffee i probably would do the same thing but omit the spices.0 -
The tea sounds interesting indeed, but I must admit that coffee has my love more so than tea.
I wish I could afford the heavy cream because truthfully i can only imagine how wonderful it must taste, but the bottles we get in Barbados are not bad for size, but are almost $30. Not sure how much they are in the US but for comparison it would cost me about $15 US for about 1/2 liter.0 -
Since you are eating butter, I assume you are not against some fatty dairy. Try a real organic heavy cream. I use Vital Farms heavy cream , it is 52% fat and yummy!0

Holy crap. 1/2 liter here might run $8 for the high-quality organic stuff, and half that for the conventional stuff.
For those interested in mine, here's what I've been playing with the last few days:
8oz coffee
1tbsp butter
2 whole eggs
1/4c whole milk
1/2-1tsp sugar
1-2tsp cinnamon (or to taste)
While the coffee's brewing, I toss everything else in the blender and give it a quick whirl. Add the coffee and blend again until everything's incorporated and the butter is melted. Fills about a 14oz glass.
305 calories | 11g carbs | 23g fat | 15g protein
For a thicker, richer version, this morning, I added an egg and half a tablespoon of butter, which resulted in something closer in consistency to the original BPC and the following numbers:
425 calories | 11g carbs | 34g fat | 21g protein
(Numbers pulled from my diary, based on what I put in.)
I wasn't thrilled with it, though, so I'm going to keep experimenting. The sugar is there because it tastes flat otherwise. It's basically treated as a spice, and brings out the flavors of the other ingredients, giving it a nice body. Hopefully, I can find something else that has the same effect, but can bring down the carbs. You can also reduce the carbs by swapping the milk for cream or coconut milk/cream, but that will likely also change the mouthfeel. I plan on going back to 2 eggs and increasing the butter and swapping the sugar for vanilla tomorrow, and I'll be sure to post my results.0 -
Most days: Coffee + Nothing = Making me feel bulletproof. Often enjoyed with a side of dark chocolate. Or main course, depending on how I feel.
Though recently I've been doing roughly a 10g/10g split of butter/coconut oil, just to try it out. Not too bad.0 -

That sounds amazing! I am primarily a tea drinker myself, I will have to try this.0 -
I was thinking of this recipe based on what everyone has put in:
8oz brewed coffee
2 tblsp butter
1 tblsp organic cocoa
2 eggs (white and yolk) - opinions on this? Using yolk vs. the entire egg?
Vanilla essence
Cinnamon to taste
I don't want to have any carbs in it which is why sugar and milk/cream are still missing, but I figured the eggs might make a nice creamy consistency I'm looking for, and leaving out the coconut oil will give me a nicer taste. I'm not a massive fan of the taste, but it will do.0 -
I've been struggling for years to drink mine without sugar (although I've drastically reduced the amount I add). I never even considered cocoa powder, vanilla, and cinnamon. I'm so glad I read this thread!! thanks everyone for sharing what you add to coffee.0

So this recipe as listed is 5g carbs, 31g fat, 12g protein (whole egg), 2g fiber, 1g sugar. About 363 calories.
So I don't entirely get away from the carbs, but for what it is, not a bad start. I mean I'm aiming to have this maybe twice (max 3 times) a week.0 -

I forgot to mention vanilla!!! I put vanilla in mine as well.0 -
Vanilla in yours sounds divine PrimalRunner!!
Can anyone weigh in on the whole egg situation versus just using the yolk? Would the white make it slimy?0 -

In the case of the recipes here, and the original BPC, the coffee is the main course. It's a rough equivalent to a green smoothie in the sense that it's meant to be consumed by itself for most people.0 -

Nope, doesn't make it slimy.
Egg is an emulsifier (it's what makes the oil and vinegar in mayo actually stay together), which alters its texture when blended like in these coffees. Plus, the act of blending tears apart the pieces in egg white that tend to be "slimy." It's also a similar concept to how the butter doesn't just sit on top, as well, because of the blending.
If you've ever had egg nog, it has a similar mouthfeel to 8oz coffee + 3 eggs.0 -

I shall go ahead with the whole eggs then! Tomorrow I will make it for the first time but I am excited to try it! I will report back on it so everyone knows how it went down0 -
Tried the following today:
8oz coffee
2 whole eggs
1tsp vanilla extract (the real stuff)
3tbsp butter
1/4c milk
cinnamon
501 calories | 8g carb | 45g fat | 15g protein
The vanilla is promising as a sugar substitute, but it's looking like six of one when it comes to carbs from it if you go with more than a teaspoon. It was more bitter this morning, since the vanilla doesn't cut it as much, tsp for tsp. Not bad, though, if you like the bitterness of coffee more.
The extra butter does well so far for adding more mass in lieu of a third egg and gives the drink a nice creamy texture. It does seem more prone to separation as it cools, though, so make sure to drink it while it's still kinda hot. I don't have a thermal 16oz cup, so mine cools fast, and I ended up with what tasted like little more than black coffee for the last few swigs. Those used to original BPC are probably already used to that, though.0 -
Thanks for the update Dragonwolf I think most people might know that bitter taste you're talking about. I know I sure do. I went cold turkey on my sugar when I went paleo, and tried the BPC just as they had listed it. I'm interested to see how the other flavors blend together in mine tomorrow.0
-
Wow, I had never heard of putting raw eggs in your BPC. Will have to try that this weekend. Don't have a blender at work, so only use cream, butter and coconut oil with some cinnamon during work days.
Thanks!0 -

I'd never thought to try making BPC as a cold drink - great idea! I'm a die hard black coffee drinker but in my S.A.D. days enjoyed an iced latte - this could sub for that!0 -

Eh, you have to be careful with that. Coconut oil and butter don't do well at lower temperatures and will solidify again. The egg might help keep them from doing that, but I would be more surprised if it worked than if it didn't. I doubt you'll be able to get much colder than lukewarm.0 -
Love this thread - thanks Shannon! I've just started giving this a whirl, just using coffee, butter and coconut oil. I just throw it in a blender bottle and shake until frothy. I want to try eggs too, but do you think that will work in a blender bottle, or should a blender/immersion blender be used?
Thanks for all the great ideas!0 -

Good point Dragonwolf. I guess like everything else it would be worth the experimenting. I will try my first one hot for sure though. Maybe if you just let the coffee cool to room temperature before adding the other stuff. Not exactly cold, but close enough I guess. *shrugs*0 -

I've never used the blender bottle for BPC in particular, as I have an immersion blender which stays out for easy access, so I just normally use that. I don't have a stand alone blender otherwise so my immersion blender does the trick for everything. Give it a try and see if you prefer one to the other.0 -

I tried the shake method in the beginning too. Both with a plastic shaker bottle (plastic and hot coffee-hmmm) and then a jar. I had too many explosions (the glass didn't break but opening it was scary) and burns. I gave up for quite awhile... then had a brainwave to use my immersion blender with whisk. Perfection. It solved the need to get my coffee ready FAST and to fully emulsify the fat.
I tried my coffee with egg yolk and I loved the frothiness but I didn't like the taste. Yet I like raw egg yolks on their own. Go figure.0 -

Too funny...I am revolted by eggs in any form (taste, smell, and texture--I'm working on it!) and actually really liked the eggs in this! I didn't notice them at all.0 -
So I tried my recipe this morning for the very first time and it was certainly a new twist on BPC. At first is just put in my list of ingredients that I posted here, but after I tasted it, the bitterness was a little too much so I ended up adding a tsp of sugar. Then it was divine! I still couldn't taste the vanilla that I put in, so to "save" on the vanilla essence carbs, I might just switch it for the sugar and see how that goes.
But I was worried about the eggs truthfully. I blended everything else first, cracked the eggs into my plastic measuring cup and then blended them separately. The I placed the immersion blender back into the coffee and slowly added the eggs and the foam on that baby was impressive!!! But I managed to finish it all before I got to work, and because the eggs were cold from the fridge it cooled down the coffee a bit more than usual but this really isn't an issue for me.
All in all, I would say it's a resounding success!! Thanks to everyone who put in their recipes and suggestions0 -

I found that a tablespoon of vanilla works in place of a teaspoon of sugar. I think much more than that and the alcohol in the vanilla starts coming out.
I've gotten it down to 8g of carbs so far, seems to be about as far as I can get it, while maintaining the flavor profile.0
