I had surgery in Fort Hood, TX May 2016

Prior to surgery: 218 pounds at 5'2
    I wore a size 16/18
    Current weight: 180
    I wear a size 13/14

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2011 after going to 5 doctors. Nobody had an explanation for a 30 pound weight gain and excessive hair growth on my face although I was 160 before the 30 pound gain.

I was sleeved after months of research and years of trying diets, personal trainers, Weight watchers, and eating like a rabbit lol. Best decision I ever made!

I am definitely a newbie. My lap-band surgery was Aug 30, 2016. I am 65 years old. On the day of surgery I was 5'4", 220 lbs. Today I weigh 210.

Five years ago, I had surgery to replace my right hip. Being obese, although it felt better afterward, it still hurts every day. Last year, I found myself in the hospital for 5 days with congestive heart failure. Have also been treating GERD for 7 years.

I need to lose weight to feel better and get off as many of my meds as possible.

I have just started soft foods, with two weeks ahead of me before my first adjustment. I am amazed that I am feeling better already. I am off three of my meds right now, and working with doctors to stay off them, with the goal of reducing more dependence on drugs to keep me functioning.

I am SO glad I found this group!

Hi, My name is Gina. I am 53.
I am pre-surgery right now. I have just started the process of losing 30 pounds before surgery.
I am 5'2" and I weighed 299 at my first appointment.
I wear size 3x pants and 3x shirts
My shoe size is women's 7-7.5 but my feet are too wide for most shoes so I wear kids size as they are wider.
Right now I am researching and trying to decide between the sleeve and RNY. I don't have any family for support so here I am!

@lighthowz - good luck - this will be the most emotionally trying but rewarding journey you will go through.

Personally, I wish I had the sleeve - most people I speak to have had less issues with digesting different foods and oddly enough losses were greater than my gastric bypass.

i have lost 30-32 lbs since my surgery in April 2016. Total loss has been 69.7 lbs. I had issues digesting meats for a couple of weeks and everyone I know who had the sleeve and have had more significant losses and fewer food issues. Definitely do your research - I wish I had done more and in hindsight my surgeon pushed me more in the direction of bypass. I didn't dig deeper just listened to his rationalization. I initially wanted sleeve and wound up with bypass. Do your research and go with your gut - don't let anyone, including your surgeon convince you to do what they want.

In the end, I am glad I had any procedure because I feel way better! Good luck!

THIS TOPIC GETS A GOLD SEAL FOR BEING SIMPLY AWESOME!!!

KEEP THEM COMING! THEY ARE SO VERY MOTIVATING FOR PRE-OP AND POST-OP MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU LOSERS!!!:flowerforyou:
I had VSG on 03/24/2014 at St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates, IL
Insurance: Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Illinois
    Height: 5 ft 4 in
    Starting weight: 358
    Day of Surgery weight: 330
Current Weight (as of 04/04/14): 312
    Top Size: 3X/4X, 26/28
    Pants Size: 26/28
    Shoe Size: 10w

Not in any smaller sizes yet, but trench coat I couldn't button in Jan. I can now button and tie the sash (w/o any gaping!) I am also able to wear some of my button-up blouses as blouses instead of as over shirts for tank tops. My bras are fitting properly instead of my cups running over.

I am only a few weeks post-surgery, and I have joined a gym and will start working with a trainer on Friday. I am excited for my future, and really appreciate reading everyone else's posts.
Wow what a great start! Congratulations! Have fun with the trainer, you got this!
