March Exercise Challenge

Hello there!

A few of us were doing a 30 day shred challenge for February and thought it would be a great idea to continue challenging ourselves into March. We all appreciate the support we get from the group, sharing our successes and challenges. This is a non-judgmental group, we are here to support and cheer each other on.

You can chose anything you want to challenge yourself for March, it could be an exercise goal, a food goal, a healthy guideline goal: whatever you'd like.

We report here daily to let the group know how we did, as well as cheer on our fellow challengers. :-)

Here are my goals for March:
~ Walk every day, minimum 30 minutes (weather permitting as I only walk outdoors: and we are in a polar vortex *sigh*)
~ 30 Day Shred, 4 days per week (3 rest days)
~ Add weights to 30DS workout

Are you with me?????

    I'm in it

I'm going to keep doing the 30DS since I missed a whole week. I may do another month of it before I move up to the next level.

    30DS
    Zumba 4 days a week
    light yoga 2 days
body Pump 2 days, but I may add in 3 a week ( still up in the air)
    plus walking every day

    Cycle 30 minutes 2x a week
Work with weights for my arms 5x a week

I'm behind on the new week but I know it's because I am sick and not being lazy. :) but just watch out when I am 100% better haha. I made my 100 miles in Feb I hit it Feb 21 with 101 and I wanted to do more but March is all new and I'll hit another 100

@Jemethyst welcome and Star is right we are very supportive to each other.

@star I can't wait till I get to ride my bike again, I miss it a lot but I hurt my tail bone a few months back so I have to go see a specialist and see what the true problem is. thats on March 11th but I also can not ride my bike until the weather changes here and i'm just a bit jealous you get to swim haha again the weather sucks here so no swimming for me until maybe end of May. but enjoy it :)

@Sadie how are you doing today?

I'm a little jealous of the swimming too! Can't wait til it warms up enough here to swim.

Skittles, sorry to hear about the tail bone, I know that hurts! Mine happened many years ago and I still have problems with it. I have a stationary bike that I am using for my cycling, and I've had to resort to putting a pillow on the seat to help out some.

Also, thanks for the warm welcomes skittles and Star!

    Hi Lovelies!

Quick post to let you all know I'm here. I'll have to come back later to fully read (I skimmed) and respond to you all!

I started this challenge with a binge. *sigh* It's okay, it's over, I can't change it but I can change what I do today and going forward. So walk and 30DS on tap for today. I will do it!

    Be back later....

    Hey All!

LOL...noooo, my bike and swim are in the gym! Although I COULD do an outdoor bike (I don't mind biking in the rain)...but yeah, inside for me!

Did my C25K workout yesterday and YYYYYYYAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Can't believe I did the 20 minute run!!!! SOOOO happy with myself!!!! I started out with my friend but what I've noticed is that I'm so paranoid that I'm slowing her down (cuz I jog REALLY SLOWLY) that I don't focus on my breathing and I get taxed really fast. So I slowed down to jog behind her and let her go ahead of me....after that it was SMOOTH SAILING!!! I could focus on my breathing and giving myself the PEP TALK that I needed to keep going. It was great!

Tonight we will meet to begin our bike workout.

@skittles: Glad to see you are back!! Are you 100% healthwise?

    @sadie: Absolutely!!! It's in the past...move forward!!

@Sadie don't worry we all binge but you are doing great. keep it up

@jemethyst how are you doing today?

@star way to go on running. I am feeling a lot better. I just got done with a 52 min walk and I feel great. when I sleep it kind of sucks because I am still coughing but thats about the only time I am.

I also weighted myself and gained 3lbs not sure how I did that eating soup and juice so not sure what thats all about. but hey it happens. I'm worried about doing the 30DS with the jumping jacks so I may only do a few for it but we will see

Haven't got mine in yet today, planning to after class. Weighed in this morning and feeling frustrated, I've only lost 3.4 lbs since November. Started cycling about three weeks ago and honestly thought it would help, also started paying closer attention to macros. I'll check back in once I've exercised, hopefully it'll boost my mood!

@skittles, don't worry about the 3lbs...you ate nearly nothing for the past few days...there's NO WAY it's 3lbs of fat. LOL. About the 30DS...well at least you tried!!! LOL...you'll be back in Beast Mode soon!

@Jemethyst: Great job getting it in! Hmmm...when you look back at your food diary are you consistently eating within your calories? Do you eat your exercise calories back? Are you eating ENOUGH calories? Are you eating clean consistently? If all those things are in order you might want to have your thyroid checked.

    @Sadie: Where are you woman?

had a GREAT workout tonight!!! Agggghhhhh it felt good to cycle! You KNOW you had an AWESOME workout when the stationary bike is DRENCHED...there was sweat drops all over that bike! My tshirt was DRENCHED front to back! I was pedaling to The White Stripes and they WORKED ME! ahhahaha!

Tomorrow is my free day but I may try to get in a level 2 30DS workout. We'll see!!!!

@starchile Since the new year Ive gone over my calories 2-3 times. I dont eat as 'clean' as I should, I would say its a balance and its better than it was before.. when I was actually losing on a weekly basis. I tend to eat close to half of my exercise calories back... sometimes a little over half/sometimes a little under. I'm not sure if I need to up my calories (which scares me), or if I should lower them (which also scares me because I don't want to go too low). Right now Im set for 1800 daily with a 40/30/30 macro split. (im 5'9 and 327.4lbs) I do have a hard time getting in enough proteins several times a week and use protein supplements, such as protein powder or bars.

    Hi lovelies!!!

Sorry I've been MIA. Just dealing with some emotions and I've been sick...skittles I blame you! LOL

Skittles - so glad you're feeling better, and hey, 5 minutes is better then nothing! those 3lbs could be sodium....

Star - I think you're doing just awesome with your c25k. I'm so impressed with how hard you pushed yourself on the bike! You rock girl!

Jemethyst - 3 lbs lost is better then 3 lbs gained! :-) It's frustrating when we don't lose as quickly as we want to, but you're going in the right direction! I also conquer with everything Star asked. :-)

I'm feeling better emotionally. I think I just needed a couple of days to be blue, and now I'm over it.

So today i will walk and do the 30DS. There, I said it - it's out there. You all have permission to kick me in the butt if I don't come back here tonight to report that I've done it. I will report in either way. :-) Now, I have to run to a meeting.

Ok.... So I've heard f the 30dS but never looked it up or watched a video. Since y'all are doing it I wanted to see what it was all about, I sat here and watched the entire 28 minutes of it. Holy cow!

To each one of you doing the 30ds, mad props!!!

@star I agree with Sadie when she said (I'm so impressed with how hard you pushed yourself on the bike! You rock girl! ) I am as well. just keep it up and I can't wait till one day I do the c25k I think I want to start it in May or June. one of those months but I will start it. and the 3lb sucked but I'm not letting it stop me. I was able to drop the 19 I'll just add 3 more to it and keep going.

@Sadie you know what some times it is good to have a blue day or two, I think it really helps all of us once and a while to just get it out and move on from whatever the issue may be. (hugs)

@Jemethyst 30ds sucked for me the first week. the whole week I kept saying to myself what the heck did I get into. and I wanted to stop, but I knew if I did stop I would just stop everything else. I have given up so many times before. now I kind of have to restart it again lol but I will do it and prob say again what did I get my self into haha

well today I just walked for 90 mins and it was funny because I was at 2.5MPH and I am normally at 3.2 but I was sweating my butt off I just found it funny because i wasn't going fast. and my right side hurts a bit not sure what I did yesterday but being off 9 days sucks. I still want to do zumba but I think I'll wait until next week just to make sure I am 100% and as Star put it beast mode haha
I know I say this a lot but thank you all for being here. it really helps a lot

I think I'm ready to do the 30DS. I had a mini challenge on another group to do 100 jumping jacks a day and I just did them, it took me 5 mins but I got it done. so I'm shooting for the 30DS

@jemethyst: Ok, obviously I'm no expert but I HAVE dealt with diet and weight loss most of my adult life. I have read and researched and communed with others on just about everything diet related!!! LOL. Here is some food for thought....take what you find useful and throw the rest out. :o)

If you are not losing weight and you WANT to lose weight then you know you have to change some things that you are doing now. first thing that I think of is unless you are using a HRM most programs will OVER estimate how many calories you are burning during your workout routines. That's not that important unless you are eating those calories back. You may be taking in TOO many calories. You say you are eating 50% or more of your exercise calories...I would knock it down a bit to give a cushion between what MFP SAYS that you are burning and what you MAY ACTUALLY be burning. The next thing is the protein powder and bars. I know there is controversy over these supplements but what my trainer told me is that unless you are lifting serious weights or doing INTENSE cardio, the average person working out does NOT need all that extra protein, especially in conjunction with a full diet (vs. meal replacement). Also, just from my own experience, they actually stalled me (which is why I asked my trainer about them). How about just cutting those things out for a little while just to see if it makes any difference and just upping your natural proteins (chicken breast has 30g/tuna has 40g)? And finally, eating clean. You've already lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight...as we go along with our diet and exercise programs our bodies can adjust to our regimen which will cause a slow down in the loss unless we SHAKE IT back up. It might be helpful to eat as clean as possible for a little while to see if that makes a difference.

Just my thoughts Lady! Good luck!

Jem, just to add to what Star said: are you weighing/measure your portions? Are you counting everything honestly (I know sometimes I forget ot count the bite, licks and tastes). These can add up. I also find weighing much more accurate then measuring spoons/cups.

So, I did the walk and the 30DS...I'm on the road back! :-)

Thanks for the input Star and Sadie, much appreciated.lm Gonna cut out the protein supplements for a few weeks and see if there is a difference, and work on not eating those exercise calories back. I may have to automatically reduce the cal burn amount in half when it post so I Don't "see" those kinda available calories.

Regarding the measurements, I do use a digital scale for my meats and some veggies, others I use measuring cups. Except for whole fruits like bananas, oranges, and apples....I've never weighed them for some reason

@sadie great job with the walk AnD 30ds!
    @skittle 100 jumping jacks...wow!
@star... You got it going on!

Thanks Ladies!! The triathlon is in less than six weeks so I gotta REALLY kick it into gear now!

Decided to take my free day instead of doing the 30DS workout...but I have a DOUBLE workout tomorrow and Im sure it's going to kick my butt! Going from a bike workout to jogging on the trreadmill in one workout takes a little gettting used to!! Your legs feel like RUBBER after! LOL.

@jem: yeah, do some tweeking and see how it goes. Keep us posted!! And DON'T GIVE UP!!! I know it can be frustrating!! BELIEVE ME I'VE BEEN THERE!!!! (I hate that dang scale sometimes!!!) LOL

    @sadie: NNNNNNNIIIIIIICCCCCEEEEE Fabulous job!!!!

@skittles: Whoa!! 100 jumping jacks!!??? IN 5 minutes????? Aye Caramba!!!!! That's making me sweat just thinking about it!!! YOU KILLED IT DEAD GIRL!!! Very awesome work!!

Starting off with a new day! So.... I most likely will not be doing 2 sets of 30 minutes on the bike today, just one. Why?

Because I just did the 28 minute video of the 30DS via youtube!!! (with modifications due to knees)

Hope every one has a great day!

@Sadie I forgot to say sorry I got you sick haha, I really hope it isn't what I had because that sucked and now I am paying for it again when I work out because my body is sore but feel better soon

@Star I know you can do it. you having been amazing and I am going into ( beast mode) lol

@Jem way to go on doing the 30DS blast and I had to do Modifications at first too because of my knees, and I couldn't do any jumping jacks, now look at me I'm doing 100 a day, who would of thought lol. But it takes time and you will get there.

today I am doing 100 jumping jacks, 30DS, and walking. my hubby won't be home till late because he is going out after work to a going away party so its me and the house all day haha. may get some cleaning in and more walking, plus the dentist. ahh I hate them lol but I'll post later today, everyone enjoy the day and lets sweat haha

Skittle, you're rocking! OMG! Those jumping jacks are the death of me...I still can't do a whole set in the 30DS. You're awesome!

Star, I can't imagine doing a jog then the bike, or vice versa! That's freaking awesome! I wish you were closer to me, I'd totally come out and cheer you on in your Tri!

Jem, sometimes I find going back to basics helps. I know my eye is skewed to portion sizes, so it's a real eye opener when I measure. You'll get there, as Star says the scale can be frustrating but don't give up! Way to go on doing the shred!

So I don't think I'm sick - I don't know what was going on. Almost like allergies, but how is that possible with the deep freeze we are in? LOL I'm not analyzing it too much, feeling much better physically and emotionally so I'm going to take it run. :-) We got yet more snow last night *sigh* I'm SO done with winter now. Aparently we are going to continue to be in a deep freeze till April. gah!

More of the same routine on tap for me: work, walk the dog and 30DS. Will also be getting some healthy groceries after work as I have almost nothing left in the fridge! Gotta get back on track with meal prep and planning. I always do better when it's all prepared and just ready to grab.

    Have a great day everyone!

Sadie I am so happy you are not sick, thats great news because its horrible. I hope no one gets what I had

so change of plans today, i did 90 mins of walking, 30DS, my 100 jumping jacks and went to the dentist which was a new one because I moved and wanted to find out closer to my new place and they are great but I need some work done and a crown which sucks. not looking fwd to that at all. but the doc said most the most part I have great teeth o.O not sure how with needing a crown and some fillings but whatever lol then went out with a few friends to the mall to walk around which was nice. and now I'm going to do Leslie Sansone walk 3 miles. and then maybe do some cleaning since I didn't get that done today.

Slight change of plans, too much homework tonight and I need sleep! Tomorrow is the last day before spring break so works getting crammed in at the last minute. Oh well. I'll do my 60 tomorrow and take the 30 for today. Plus still doing some weights today.

Hope everyone else had a good one!

@Megan: Yaayyy!!! WELCOME!!! We are happy you are here!!! ohhhhh...I looovveee swimming! I can't wait to get back into the pool! sooooon....soooonnn! lol. Do you swim laps or do you walk or do drills or what?

@Jem: Nice job getting the weights in! That definitely counts!

@Skittles: Ack! Sorry to hear that you have to have dental work done! NOT FUN!

@Sadie: happy you are not sick!!! Cuz it's REALLY going around.

I had an OFF day at the gym. Ever have those??? Where things just don't FEEL right? First of all, I left work early today with stomach problems...took a chance and went to the gym anyway. My stomach was kinda timid but I got on the bike and pushed myself hard...I did 2 miles in something like 8 minutes on level 11! (yayy!) And then went to the treadmill to do my run...well, my stomach started hurting and I had some cramping but I was thinking if I could just focus, I'd be fine...but the lady next to me took a call and started talking on the phone REALLY loudly...like I could hear her over my music!! LOL. That just threw me completely off and I ended up not finishing my run. :(

Anyway, I still feel like I got a good workout but just incomplete.
