lmjblues : I truly believe this. I've been eating "slow carb" for about 12 years now, and I KNOW that when I get lax the peri symptoms get worse and I pretty much immediately gain (belly) weight.

Here's momma_grizz's blog here on the subject. She came to pretty much the same conclusions.

I just started the book you've suggested. Hope things go well for you (and me!)

Hey Sabine. Thanks for the blog. I'm checkin' it out. One word of advice for the book you just started... I think her suggestions for supplements may be a little heavy for the nutritionally conscious eater. I upped my B vitamin intake, per her suggestions, and it was waaaay too much. I had to drop it back. So just be aware of that if you are planning on putting any of her peri-zappers in place. I have totally implemented the flaxseed oil though. And I DO think that has helped...

Anyone using chia seeds? I've been eating low fat most of my life, but I"ve found that since the pause, I'm always hungry. Eatings more nuts has helped to get fat into my diet, but the calories are so high (plus I find it hard to eat moderate portions), I'm exploring adding chia seeds to the a.m. smoothie.

Hmm I've been researching the book referenced above and she has a blog that I've been looking at. I think I'm going to order the Progestakey creame. It doesn't look like there are any downfalls to trying it. I thought about doing the Salvatory Hormone Test but its 115.00 which is a bit pricey to me.

Hi there, thanks. I just finished the book and I was thinking the same thing. I eat pretty much as she suggests now, and I thought some of the supplements were a bit high. But otherwise it was a good read. Good luck with the flaxseed oil! I have ground flax seeds in my yogurt and on my salads and in my pizza crusts sometimes.

ps: did you read a paper version of the book, or Kindle? MAN were there ever typos in the kindle version!

Hi-I'm Jeannie! I'm 50 and have been going through menopause for about 8 years. Until 2 years ago, I could manage the symptoms with Estroven. Eventually they got so bad that I began seeing a specialist. My blood test revealed I had no measurable estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone, so I started bio-identical hormones. They help so much with the hot flashes, but I was still gaining weight, albeit slowly. Then, over the last few months I have put on 20 lbs-so 30 lbs over the last 2 years. I am crying all the time, and so exhausted. I paid $170 to have the saliva test done, and honestly would pay twice that to get some relief! Seeing the doctor next week to get those results. The thing I don't understand is why I can't lose weight if I have a calorie deficit? That part of it just doesn't make sense to me. I'm going to read the books suggested and research the insulin issue. I have Addison's Disease and take hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone every day, along with DHEA. I also have a thyroid issue and take cytomel for that. Because of my health issues, I've never had a great metabolism, even when I work out 6 days a week. So I've never eaten a lot of calories, and always eaten a low fat diet, because that works for me. When I cut carbs, I get sick-but the bulk of my carbs come from fruits and veggies. It just seems that everything that worked for me before doesn't work anymore. I am willing to try anything, because I want to fit in my clothes again. It is so frustrating. Thanks for all the tips about what works for you!

I've just found this group and it's exactly the support I need. I'm in my mid-40s and in peri-menopause. Main symptoms are poor sleep, hot flushes and inability to shift weight. All the strategies I used to be able to use, like upping exercise and cutting down on fats/sweets just don't seem to work now. Despite the fact that I exercise for at least 60mins a day, every single day, my weight just doesn't budge at all. I'm hoping to learn from you all and share what I'm learning as well in this great (but a little challenging) journey called growing older. I've just downloaded the book referenced earlier and looking forward to reading it.

Welcome new members! I've been so upset about the non-loss of weight or inches since I tried on summer clothes last weekend I've been diligently searching for answers on the Internet all week. I came across a few good blogs that gave some good suggestions. I've ordered some progesterone cream and some pills that are a natural metabolic booster so hopefully that will help. I would like to do the salvia test but didn't want to spend the 115 on it right now. From researching it doesn't seem to be any downfalls to using the cream. Abd it sure does seem like my symptoms are that I am estrogen dominant. Along with starting these two things I got a scale and an now weighing all my food at home. I have to say that it really has shown me that I have been underestimating my portions. So maybe it is as simple as I've been eating more than I think. I'm going to visit my son in Dallas over Mother's Day weekend and I really want to be able to fit in my summer clothes by then.
