Hey there...Thanks for joining, if you would like to please take the time to introduce yourself, tell us a little about who you are & your journey!

Hellooooo there! My name is Tarran & I am 26 and live in the Kansas City area. I have a toddler and boyfriend and they are my favorite people in the whole world. :) I have been on my weight loss journey for most of my life. When I was 16 on Christmas day I hit 200 pounds & I always said I'd kill myself if I ever got to 200 pounds. My mom knew I was devastated and she wanted to lose too, so she signed us up for Weight Watchers online & I started going to the gym. From hard work and dedication I lost about 30 pounds & by that summer I got to 152 (part of my weight loss was losing my 'baby weight' I think because one day I was just 152). From there I got a job & was waiting tables, I kept off the weight for some time until I got into a bad relationship & in 8 months ballooned up to 232! I'd like to say I didn't know I was gaining weight, but obviously I did. It didn't really hit me until the Christmas when I was 18 and I looked at a picture of me, my mom and my then boyfriend & I literally had to do a double take!! I thought someone had photo shopped the picture. My manager at the time told me "Tarran, you could have any man you wanted if you lost 50 pounds." So...I was huge & I decided that I was eating entirely too much. I was too, I was eating a chicken fried steak and 3 eggs (with cheese), hash browns & 2 big pancakes in one sitting & then eating snacks throughout the day, then I would eat lunch before I got off, then go home and eat again and then eat dinner, then eat a big snack at night...So I stopped eating so much & I started losing weight. Well, I got into another relationship years later & gained a bunch more weight, then I got pregnant & gained more weight & then I started losing weight & that is where I am now! I'm 5'7'' and 222 lbs. My highest weight when I was pregnant was 279, but I consider my starting weight 262. That is my story...what is yours?

Hey, I'm Tara. Live in Kc Ks. :) Love this site so far, lots of great peeps on here. I'm sitting at 248 at the moment... I started this journey 3 weeks ago with a 113 lb loss goal. I'm still on track and hitting the gym 5 times a week. 1300 calorie a day diet and just being more conscience of what goes in my mouth at all times!

I'm a mom and a wife. I love to sing! I DJ and KJ in the KC metro area. I work during the day as an Accounting specialist. Really would like to drop the weight so I will have more energy to run around with kids, dogs and hubby. :)

Hi! I am in the area. I have lost 60 pounds since February and love this site. I started out at 253 and now weigh 192!! I go to Title Boxing Club 5X a week and would have never thought that I could be addicted to exercising! Since we are all in the same area, if you ever want to go try out a class, it would be fun to work out w/someone! In my signature there is a link to their website.

Thanks for creating this group! Now we can know more people around here.

Greetings, KC peeps. I work from home in Olathe; it's a swell gig. Joined MFP in February, and that's been a swell gig, too. :)

I'm a few pounds shy of my halfway mark; pretty happy with my progress so far. My main exercise is walking, but I'm about ready to do the gym thing. Picked up a groupon recently, so we'll see how that works out.

Good to connect with you all. Forward we go!

Hey Everyone my names Tina, I moved to the KC area almost 7yrs ago from Canada after I married my wonderful hubby :flowerforyou: I love it here & people are amazing reason I decided to stay! Ill be celebrating my 30th birthday in about a month!

I graduated high school in 2000 at 135lbs and I quit my bad habit of smoking I ballooned up but never seen myself getting bigger since everyone around me was always bigger then I was, I replaced smoking habit with junk food/fast food habit.

In March 2009 it started to effect my health and my doctor told me he wouldn't allow me to get pregnant being at the weight I was, I was up to 330lbs

I knew I had to do something meaning hubby & I just celebrated our 4 yr wedding anniversary and we more so now where talking about starting a family, I went to being home full time so I really didn't have any excuse to get my butt on track

In 19 months I lost 156lbs (as of October 2010) I was down to 176lbs and 14lbs from my goal we then got in the mids of buying/selling our houses and with the stress of that I wasn't counting calories and lacking on workouts, I gained 40lbs back in about 4 months, by Jan the docs gave us the green light to start a family since I lost over 100lbs and my numbers where looking good.

Ive been back on track now just not working out 1-3hrs a day like before cause don't need to over do it exp when trying to have a baby, but getting some exercise and eating healthy things been going slow at the time, just wish the weather was warmer so I can get some walking/biking in daily instead of once or twice a week, tho I attempt to play on my wii fit as often as I can

Good luck to everyone, we can do this :drinker:

Hi everyone I am Dave I have been married for 33 years and have 2 daughters and 6 grand children and. I moved to Leavenworth 3 years ago to pastor the Northwest Baptist Church.

I weighed 280 in January and made a decision to lose weight and get in shape so I just started walking with a goal to lose 100lbs this year. I have lost 85 so far. I only walked until about May then I started jogging a little, now I walk every other day and jog the other day I am doing about 40-60 miles per week. I look for races most every weekend and plan to do my first full Marathon in April. I start a 24 week training plan next week.

hello my name is Kyle. Not in the KC area but here in Kansas at Fort Riley. 35 male, married, 2 kids, US Soldier, beginner runner. I have always been over weight. At my highest I was 242 lbs or so. I was lazy, drank a lot, and really didn't care about fitness at all. In my last deployment I started working out and started to get fit. I dropped about 40lbs and came home from Iraq and put back on about 10lbs. I have gotten back in to fitness and LOVED running. I have let it go over the past few months. I want to get it back. I will be deploying again in a few months for Afghanistan and would like to be prepared for that also.

My name is Kiya. My husband and I will be moving to Lenexa, Kansas in two weeks! Just found out he got a job there today :D! We're both VERY excited, haha!

I'm only trying to lose a little. Started at 150 and am currently at 140. My original goal was to reach 135, but I'm really starting to think I want/can drop down to 130 again. That's how much I was in junior college, 4 years ago. Was on the school dance team, practicing 2+ hours a day.

I'm a Zumba instructor, and look forward to finding a gym in the KC area to teach at  I'm also on week 6 of C25K. I want to be fit enough to participate in a Warrior Dash in the summer of 2012 in a crop top. My abs are definitely the thing I miss most about being fit.

    Good luck to everyone!!

My name is Jessica. I live in the southern portion of the KC area. I (re)started this journey in April of this year. I have lost and regained the same 40lbs about 3 times. This is the last time! I started in April at my highest weight, 182. I am currently at 130 and have about another 5-10lb to lose. I began using myfitnesspal in July and it has been a great tool.

I'm Karen and live in the Olathe area. Have one 4-yr old and tentatively trying for #2. I'm working on eating healthier to give my daughter the good start I didn't have. My ticker says I've lost 7 lbs but I actually started out on another site years ago and have lost 30 lbs total. I really only want to drop another 5-10 lbs and call it good. I typically fit in workouts over my lunch hour and a walk in the evening if the weather is nice. My biggest vice is the weekends. I'm always on the run and never get around to logging. it's noone's fault but my own, and I strive to better

Hi, I'm Stacey. I'm in the Blue Sprigs, MO area. I am a mom of two teenage girls.

I started this journey back in May (right about the time I turned the big 4-0) by walking and using my elliptical. I had reached a weight I had only ever seen before while I was pregnant. That sickened me! I knew I had to start doing something to nip my continuing weight gain in the bud and to reverse it ASAP.

I did not discover/join MFP until late August. Simply by tracking my eating I started shedding some lbs. But, it seems, my weight loss has stalled a bit lately. I recently joined the running group Runner's Edge of KC. I am hoping to learn a few things with this group to help me build endurance with running. I've done five 5Ks since July improving my time from then thru October by about 10mins! That was exciting for me. I also joined a local gym recently to help keep my progress going through these upcoming cold months because I just knooooow I won't run outside when it's freezing. :ohwell:

I hope to reach my goal weight before my next birthday and so I will look my best at my daughter's H.S. graduation in June.

Hey everybody! I'm Elin. I just moved to the area about 2 months ago from Idaho. Love it here so far! Really didn't expect to so thats been nice.

I've always been big and could never really figure out why because I've always been extremely active. I hadn't ever really made any effort to diet or lose weight but after putting on about 20 lbs in grad school (almost all writing my thesis, holy stress eating batman!!) and then getting dumped I was well primed to start giving a crap about my body. My mom was on MFP for a year and was doing really well with it so I thought I'd give it a go. I've lost almost 60 lbs so far, have another 30 or so to go. MFP has been an awesome tool and I've met a lot of great people on here.

Stuff I like to do: running (up to half marathons, would love to do a full someday), hiking, curling and I'm looking into mountain bikes for next summer. I love to be outside and have yet to contend with the summers here so I'm worried about that. This is by far the furthest south I've ever lived and I moved here from basically a desert so humidity and I are going to have to renew our acquaintances.

Hello my fellow Kansas Cityans! I'm Phyllis from Liberty (Northland). I've been married 27 years (28 in January). My husband and I are both working on getting fit and healthy over the last year or so, in fact, just this morning MFP told me I had logged in for 300 days! Whoo hoo! I'm down to the last 10 lbs and have been struggling TERRIBLY trying to get the scale to move. If it weren't for taking measurements in the beginning I would have given up on this...plateau over 2 months...UGH. Today I'm going to start doing more weight training and cardio combined where before I was doing mostly cardio. I LOVE to walk, jog & Zumba so for me it's going to be hard to switch to my Jillian Michaels DVD's. I don't even like her. LOL We're going on a cruise over the holidays and I have 6 weeks to go. I REALLY want to reach my goal by then but it's not looking good so far. I think I can do it though...I just have to get RABID about it. I need help though!

I've searched for members in the Kansas City area on here before but so many weren't active or didn't have profile photos and didn't say much about themselves if anything so this group thing is pretty cool. I look forward to getting to know all of you! Add me if you want!

Hey my name is jessica. I'm 27 and married w/ no children yet. I live about 45 minutes south of Overland Park in a super teeny tiny town called Amsterdam. I've been struggling w/ my weight since the 3rd grade. I blame the discovery of boys lol. Since then the weight has just kept creeping up. My heaviest was about 195, but I usually hover around 185. Not so good since i'm only 5' :( Lost about 25 lbs. last winter/spring, but got pregnant, lost the baby, and gained all but a couple lbs back. So i'm starting the process all over. Been at it about 6 weeks and i'm down 7lbs so far. I know i can do way better, but the weekends and working split shifts usually throw me off. HOping to do better through the holiday season.

Hi, my name is Tracy. I grew up in KCK and went to high school in Olathe. I moved to Lawrence in fall 2000 and have been here ever since. I started struggling with my weight in my early 20s. I'm 5'6", and I hit my highest weight about 3 months ago at 237. The use of this site has helped me start to get things under control. So far I've lost 16 pounds in about 2 months.

As a side note, I am a HUGE ( no pun intended) Royals fan. The only reason I'm not a season ticker holder is that I have a funky work schedule and live an hour away from the stadium.

Hello everyone my name is Rachel I moved to the area 4 years ago it has been a huge adjustment and I hated it at first (sorry) I am from a very small town in Oklahoma and moving to a big city was a huge change. I also experienced some horrible things when coming here people have been rude and down right mean to me, when shopping I have been stared at laughed at and when eating in a resturant one couple talked about me while I was sitting there how they would never leave the house if they were this big. So needless to say KC was not kind to me at first. I now realize I have to live my life and I am not defined what others think of me I answer to one person and He loves me no matter what because He created me!

My journey is a long one and I am just starting out I have been doing what I want for far too long, I weigh so much (360), my husband and I are wanting to start our family and have been told we can't while I weigh this much so I am desperately wanting to lose this weight. I will be 30 in march and I want to be healthy for the first time in my life!! I am so excited to have found this site and this group I did not know there were others from the KC area on here!! I hope to get to know you all and maybe even make some lasting friendships!!

    thanks for starting this group!

Hi Everyone! How cool to have found you all! I'm in Parkville (the Northland, or God's Country, as we like to call it  ). I''m a wife, mother of 2 teens and step-mother to a MO Western football player, a marketing executive and a Beachbody coach.

My fitness journey has been life-long. I was a dancer all they way into college: I was a KC Chiefs cheerleader and a fitness instructor for 15 years. I have never been obese, but I had always "felt fat". Struggled with an eating disorder throught my late teens and early adulthood. To recover from that, I had to learn to not fear food - so I had to let myself eat whatever I wanted. I did gain weight, but to my surprise, didn't balloon up as big as I had feared. I decided that that weight must be my body's "natural" weight. Fast forward to a few years ago - I was turning 40, I was not working out, I felt tired and old and frail and weak. I was watching the Biggest Loser and decided if those people could workout like that, so could I.

Today, I feel strong, powerful - both mentally and physically! I have dropped 15 lbs from what I thought was my body's "natural weight" - I now have a new natural weight. and I really like it! And, for the first time EVER - I have muscles.

I do the Beachbody workout programs at home - TurboFire, P90X, Insanity, etc. After having been a gym rat for so long, I had to get over my "workout DVD snobbery". But, I have never been in better shape so I'm completely sold.

I recently took up running - did the Turkey Trot over Thanksgiving in 24:27, which I'm completely stoked about. I would like to do a 10K next, and maybe consider doing a half and then a full - frightening thought!

I'd like to get a fit club together here in the Northland where we could come together once a week, do a workout and trade tips and stories. Any ideas?

    Super nice to meet everyone!!!

Hi all. I'm Angie. 41. Mother of three and stepmom of two. Overland Park. Just joined MFP last week and I'm loving it so far. I feel like I've struggled with my weight since childhood. I'm 5' 4" and near my heaviest at 175 (used to always hover around 130 - before kids, anyway). I don't need to be skinny. In fact, I like having curves. I'd just like more 'compact' ones. ha ha.

I'm a Weight Watchers alumn about 20 times over. That program works, but I'm just not into spending the money on the weekly meetings or online tools anymore. I know how to count points, but the thing is, I stopped doing it. I stopped going to meetings, and it became a waste of money. I need something NEW. I think MFP is just the thing.

I've been a runner in the past - completing four marathons in the past decade. But I don't look like a 'runner,' and I don't run consistently (maybe that's why). After my last marathon in 2010, I had pretty bad hip problems so stopped running altogether. I joined Title Boxing Club and really enjoyed that for a while, but got out of the habit. Hoping to get back into it, but I'd like to drop 10 pounds first. I've been doing my elliptical machine at home pretty regularly and that's good for some sweat.

Anyway, looking forward to being part of this group and making new friends locally.

Hey y'all. I'm Kellie, 27, married to my wonderful husband and we have 2 amazing children. We live in south KC on the MO side, but my husband and I both work in OP, KS. My kids are 19mo and 3mo and having them back to back did terrible things to my body. In between the two I did not get back down to pre-preg weight nor did I have a chance to really work out and build my muscle back up. (I was a high risk pregnancy, so exercising was off limits for me).

I am anxious to gain my energy back, lose the weight, and feel great. I have a gym at work that I can utilize, and I also own lots of beachbody workouts that the hubby and I do at home. (Slim in 6, Power 90, Yoga Booty Ballet, P90X, Turbo Jam, 10-min trainer).

Hubby and I are eating smarter and healthier, with the help of this website/app that can show us exactly what we are putting in our bodies. It's a definite eye opener to see how some foods can really affect your body.
  • I'm Trish...live on the MO side, south of KC...in a suburb, where all the houses look the same and you HAVE to drive, if you wanna go anywhere! The problem is...I have no drive. And that's why I could stand to lose 100 pounds...but would be thrilled with 50 (my wedding weight).

I always joke that I gain 10 pounds each time we move...and we're in our fourth city in nine years. Each time I pack on those ten pounds, it's easy to become fast friends with each pound...nurturing each one with pints of ice cream and a nice comfy spot on the couch. But I'm keenly aware...that such "friendships" are one sided and are sucking the life outta me....

So here I am! Glad to find a group of folks who need encouragement and accountability just like me!

If you live down this way, I'd love to find a workout, accountability partner...and together, as a group, hopefully we can find that DRIVE! We can do this!!
