Crazy day with work today (in fact, I should be working now), and another crazy one tomorrow, but once I get through the two current projects on my plate, I may actually get a chance to breathe (for the first time in about 9 months). So excited, I'm hoping to get into a more regular workout routine, and have some time to experiment with some new healthy recipes! As for today, I got my run in, and squeezed in a few extras, like taking a walk to the mailboxes rather than driving through, and dancing or doing jumping jacks/jogging while waiting for things to heat in the microwave, etc...
Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
Oh, and congrats to MomofJandA and Azsuzi :drinker:0 -
Hey Ravenclaw! So - I know that I am definitely on the mend now - I took the stairs (6 flights) up and down twice today and then did a 30 minute treadmill walk when I got home. I couldn't even think about doing that last week!! Getting back into the swing of my busy life again after spring break - just 2 more months to go and then classes are over for a while!! Now - off to do some homework. Have a great night everyone!!0

Yay! Back in the swing of things, indeed! And prefect again to boot. Awesome, you.0 -
Hello Ravenclaws!! Didn't get much of a workout in yesterday but today I meet with my trainer. I don't have much time to post since I'm at work but just wanted to check in with everyone.0

azsuzi . . . . looks like we are the team to beat baby!!!!!!!!!
Feeling great today- started the day with a run and some 30DS, will take a walk at lunch, scale moved this morning all in all a good day so far!
So I posted this on one of the forums and only got 2 responses:
Do you workout on an empty stomach? I wrokout in the morning (5am) and don't eat after dinner the night before (5:30pm). I run and then circuit train. Just wondering what you guys think about a protein shake before/during/or after my workout. I don't actually eat breakfast until almost an hour after my workout is over (shower, get ready, get kids up, nurse Ava, then eat).0 -
Two things to update for me before I run along.
1) I have an interview today (yay!), and I'd really like this position, so I'm hoping all goes well.
2) Something is odd with my progress this week. I'm usually pretty steady, and I weigh daily, so I have a good understanding of my ups and downs and when to expect them, but I've gone up almost 2 pounds in 3 days, without really anything to account for it. I've checked my food (things like sodium and all), it's not any particular time during the month to cause a quick gain, and I'm still weighing in at the usual time in the usual way.
Hm. I don't like it, but I'm hoping it'll turn around quickly. I was getting so excited about being closer to ONEderland, but now it's running away from me. How dare it!0 -
Morning all!
Being good after the cupcake fiasco. Stayed within calories AND did a 10 minute climb up a mountain... when I usually stand around. So I was excited about that. I remember always feeling like I was going to fall down as I hike up. Now I don't have that problem anymore. I really enjoy hiking.
Need to get back in the zumba spirit. Saturdays have been booked for me which makes it difficult, but Sunday classes opened up so no excuses, right?
Digging the veggies. May do some butt clenches later.0 -

As for working out on an empty stomach - you need to give your body some fuel so that it is not pulling the protein and calories that it needs for the workout from your organs. One of my aerobics instructors always told us to eat something small before the workout (cheese and apple or something similar) and then a protein drink after to help rebuild the muscle. I've also heard that a glass of plain ol' chocolate milk is a great after-workout snack!
Have a great Wednesday Ravenclaw!!0 -
Evening everyone!
Today was a bit of a blur - I'm working on a work project that's overdue, and I just can't concentrate and get it done - as soon as I finish it, I will finally be able to get back to a reasonable schedule for the first time in about 8 months (60-80 hour weeks since August), but I just can't seem to get this dang thing done :grumble: I was over on calories a little, but it was all healthy foods, including a container of red raspberries (brightly colored!) - the biggest problem was I had no time to exercise, but I'm planning a couple of 2-a-days this weekend once this project is out of the way
@Kelly - hope your interview went well and hope you get the position!
@momofJandA - I usually have something light before I workout in the morning (although this is rare - only if I'm running a 5K or meeting a group for a long run) - I find half a PB&J on whole wheat works well. Try experimenting with the protein shake or different things to find what works best for you.
@korkster - love the cupcake fiasco - I had one of those last week while traveling - they had a decorate-your-own-cupcake bar at a reception - evil evil evil But you're back on track now, that's all that's important.0 -
Did a walk to punish myself for falling off the wagon again. It was great. Wrote a post about it.0

Ooooh man, I've been there. I hate it when you have something sitting in front of you and just CAN'T make yourself do it.
Hope you're able to get some awesome work done on it soon and get it cleared out!0 -
Hey guys,
Sorry I'm so late posting. This week has been a bit of a bummer. I'm in my fourth week of working full time and I still haven't settled into a decent sleeping pattern. I'm tired all the time and then can't sleep at night, it's the worst! I actually ditched a family dinner last night and slept for about 10 hours - it was so good. I was getting to the point where I just felt like crying/raging because I was so sleep-deprived. Woke up this morning feeling a lot less crazy haha. Early to bed again for me tonight (and tomorrow night, and the next night etc ). I'm wondering if it's worth going to the doctor's for? I don't want sleeping pills... but maybe some other sort of advice?
So due to the above I've been eating a lot of "comfort" (read: deep fried) foods, but eh. I can live with that, as long as it doesn't become a habit.
I've also had office dramas with a busybody coworker who thinks it is ok to go through my desk when I'm not there and rearrange my folders/papers as she sees fit! :explode: Just rude! I know it's company property and blah blah but to be honest it put me in a snit all morning. I have to laugh that she did this the day after she had a big confrontation with another coworker about her busy-bodyness.
Anyway, be good this weekend Ravenclaws! Or at least be moderate and pace yourselves .0 -

I started my first full time job back in January and like you I struggled with a sleeping pattern for a while. I still do sometimes. Just try to make a habit of going to bed around the same time every night. Your body just has to get used to it.0 -
Thursday . . . how you tease me with visions of the weekend only to remind me that I have 2 days to go
Good morning everyone!
@ matchamatcha- sleep deprivation SUCKS there is nothing else to say expect it SUCKs big fat hairy man balls (I know because I haven't slept more than 6 hours straight for almost 4 years- babies . . . gotta love them right?)
@ kellyisfat- I had one of those days when the scale went up for no particular reason earlier this week, gladly it went back donw and then some so keep your chin up!0 -
Thank you for all the replies. I'm holding off hope for the weekend that maybe things will level back out. If not, I'll just have to push past it and be really focused next week.
I think the interview yesterday went fairly well. 2nd interview scheduled for next Tuesday, so I took the day off Monday to relax and get some sleep.
Now just getting ready for work and wishing I could start that mini-vacation early, lol.
How have we all been doing on the challenges and house points? I really need to get myself moving more lately. I have spurts of being active, but not nearly as much as I should. April's going to hit me hard (I've determined it to be the start of my fitness-spree!).0 -
As far as the challenges are going, I'm actually doing more in exercise than I am in food. This is a rarity, but makes sense since there hasn't been a grocery run. So far I've done about 140 minutes this week & 11 OWLS. Planning to do another walk today after work.
@kellyisfat Second interiew! WTG!0 -
Just a quick hello to the best house around! Working a bit late because I have a business dinner to attend. Have no idea how the food will be and there was birthday cake in the office today, so I'm pretty much just writing today off. I'll get back to healthy mode tomorrow. Have a good night everyone!0

Happy Thursday, Ravenclaw - the weekend is almost here :drinker: And for the first time in a long time, I am actually looking forward to the weekend because I don't have to work through it  Y'all have no idea how big of a deal that is for me, because I'm a workaholic with my own business - bad, bad combination. But I'm on the wagon and reclaiming my life - I finished up that one project today (took most of the day, but finally got it done), and now I'm caught up and I'm being really careful about scheduling now, so hopefully I can stay in control and live a normal life. Of course, I celebrated a bit much today, but I'll be back on track tomorrow, so no worries. As for the challenges, I did well with exercise and OWLs Monday and Tuesday, but I've been a bit of a sloth for the past 2 days. But, tomorrow, look out0

I can't stop eating over my limit! Gah, I started this week strong, but I keep going over. Temptation is killing me. Honestly, it'll be the first time in months that I've gone over more than once in the middle of the week, but still. Not thrilled with the fact that I keep splurging more than I want to.0
-
March 23rd- my little gilr's 2nd birthday I can't believe I now have a 2 year old and a 3 year old :noway:
There will be pizza and ice cream cake tonight- I'm trying to limit everything else throughout the day and will hopefully be within range . . . . logged my food diary as complete, maybe that will keep me from eating anything else!0 -
I'm so glad that today is Friday!! So far I've done 100 min of exercise and 13 Owls so far!! Going to add to that today!
@momofJandA- Have fun tonight! Hope your little girl has a good birthday!0 -
Happy Friday Ravenclaw!! My cold is finally pretty much gone, no classes or homework today, light workload at work, sunny and warm outside - who could ask for a better day?? Eating my salad of dark, leafy greens for lunch to put toward my food OWL, took the stairs this morning. Now, if I can go home to a peaceful house tonight, this will be an all-round good day.
Hope you all have a fantastic day!!0 -
Hey all! Just a quick one, am in Singapore, had a lovely day at Universal Studios, all the rides, shows etc, tired now though! Been on my fett for eight hours!
Will keep trying to log through-out my travels as I know I'm not accountable if not, might not be popping in here as often though...
Challenges for this week, courtesy of our prefects...
Food: Sodium! One OWL every day you meet your goal
Exercise: Add something new to your workout! Or, reintroduce something you haven't done in a while. One OWL for every day you do something which is new or hasn't been done for ages...
Spirit: POST!0 -
Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start! Lottee, sounds like you're having fun
I ran a 5K this morning, with a finish time of 31:04 - it's my second fastest time, so I'm pretty happy about that. My goal is to break 30 minutes, but considering I went out last night and had a big dinner late (and was probably carrying around a few extra pounds because of it), and my training has been erratic lately, I'm not too unhappy. BUT, time to get serious - love the exercise challenge this week, since my plan was to get back to weight training - now I have extra motivation or no excuse, depending on how you look at it Now, off to find some fruits and veggies for lunch, and some ways to squeeze in some extra exercise today!0 -
**Housekeeping**
Just as an FYI for everyone, since our inter-house challenges run for 4 weeks each month, this last week of March will be for intra-house challenges only.
Naturally, we want to keep up all the good habits and still press for getting healthier this week (that's the goal, right?), but we won't be tracking our weight on the spreadsheet. On the other hand, please absolutely post your results in the CR thread next weekend so that we can see how you truly did compared to your EOM goals. I can even whip up a quick chart showing how close each of us got to our goal!
Our first official April weigh-in will be the weekend of 4/6 through 4/9, and of course we'll have the new sheet ready for you by then.0 -
Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend so far!! Weekends are normally my hardest to stay within my calorie range. Today has been really good so far in regards to that. Now off to get some exercise in for today!0
-
Went down this week. I guess I am officially moved into 200-ville. Good start to the day, but it fizzled out after having to speak to technical service. Let's hope for a better day tomorrow.0
-
Hey there Ravenclaw. I had a very frustrating day - one of those days that I was eating everything in sight and not feeling satisfied with any of it. I'm not expecting a loss this week and quite possibly will see a gain. So here I go dancing on the 153-154-155 seesaw - up and down she goes... I hope to some day see 150 (that's been my goal weight since October!!)!0
-
Hey Ravenclaw, bit of a frustrating weekend for me. Got a bit of a stomach ache, and I didn't end up seeing The Hunger Games, which I *really* wanted to do. And just noticed on the chart that I haven't lost weight at all this month. Maybe the weigh in tomorrow will give me a better number than yesterday, but I'm not really holding out hope for it. I guess now that I'm in my healthy range I really have to be extra committed/vigilant about what and how much I'm eating. I don't seem to be losing weight as easily (not that it was that easy) as before.0
-
Happy Sunday! As suspected, my weight is up this week - 155.5. :grumble: It's my own fault and I know it. I must really try to do better or I will never reach my overall goal which is just 10 pounds away... It looks like the rest of you are seeing some successes though. Great work everyone!! :drinker:0
