JLS- nursing bra shopping wasn't exactly fun but I did find some. Target has a decent selection for larger sizes. I was able to get 2 sleeping bras (which I've been wearing as regular bras around the house). My boobs are comfortably sitting on my belly so I don't exactly need the extra support right now! I also picked up a regular bra- siz XXL. It made me feel large and in charge, but I'm not getting anything too small. I think it's a Gilligan & O'Malley- it's actually cute! Target had some other regular nursing bras but they stopped at DD (lots of band sizes) and I think I could use a cup size larger. I think I'll wait until my milk comes in to see if the DD will work or not. Oh, and most of the nursing bras are $20 or less. Not too bad. And you can get them online.
Jills/JLS- I'm a crying fool. I've kind of settled down this past week and haven't been too bad. I couldn't even argue with DH. I would cry instead of responding. That's nuts to me because I'm quite feisty haha!
Faug- I hear ya with the weight gain. I'm up a solid 40 lbs right now. My knees are bothering me too! I wasn't sure if it was the weight gain, the joint looseness or just a combination of everything. I hope you are feeling better and get some peace of mind that your little guy will be here soon and I'm sure a bunch of weight will fall off.
Kerr- Hooray for breaking the hiatus haha! I told DH we're going to start proactively helping this baby come in to the world... Lots of sex and walking! I don't think he thought I was serious but he better watch out!
My update- I went to the Dr. Monday (which was 38 weeks on the nose). My blood pressure was high at the beginning of the appointment. They checked me again after letting me lay down for 5 minutes and it was back to normal. I have to go back Friday anyway to recheck it. I've been about 120/80 for the past couple of weeks but hit 140/86 Monday morning. My protein levels were normal so that's good. The nurse said I might've been a little anxious for my first internal (which I was!).
Dr. said I have nothing to write home about... dilated about a fingertip, still have my mucous plug and a nice hard cervix.
I can't believe we're all still here too! I'm not due until 10/28 so I figured I'd be flying solo here at the end. Glad I have some company- although I'm sure some of you aren't that happy to still be here!0 -
Had my 38.5 week appointment today- Doc said I was 2-3 cm dilated and 50% effaced!! Said could still be a week or so, but also could be any time- cervix was nice and soft! He also was a lil' "rough" with the exam which he said might hurry things along. Can't believe it could be any time!!
I had an awful flu bug last night- throwing up/diarrhea (sorry if TMI)- the whole 9 yards. Doctor said that that might have helped soften my cervix- go figure! Felt awful though.
As of this morning, I was up 28 lbs. Looks like I might be able to stay under my 30 lb goal!! Will keep you posted:)0 -

I've heard that it's common to get that before going into labor anyway because it helps make room. Good luck!0 -
Jillsie - I've also heard that labour can mimic the flu!
BeckyJill - You won't be flying solo, I'm due on the 29th. We'll keep each other company!
Had my 38.5 week appt today. Belly grew 1cm, which was a relief after not having any growth at my last appt. Still on the small end of things, 36cm at 38 weeks, but still within the "normal" range. BP was a bit elevated at the beginning of the appt, but my doctor re-checked and it was fine the second time. Weight has been fluctuating a few pounds lately, so weight gain is anywhere between 34-37lbs depending on the day.
Had my first headbutt/punch to the cervix the other day. Didn't hurt, but it was a bit startling! I thought I was in the clear being this far along, but I guess not!
Sleep has been AWFUL lately. Baby is sitting low enough that when I lay on my side my lower back really bothers me, and I feel like I have restless leg syndrome some nights. I find it really hard to get/stay comfortable at night, changing positions is a lot of work, and the past few mornings I've been awake way earlier than I need to be. I was wide awake at 4:30 one morning this week, and when DH got up for work at 6am I waddled down to the kitchen after him, figuring I may as well get up, too. It caught DH off guard, he didn't know I was awake, and thought I was coming downstairs to tell him I was in labour.
I've been seeing a massage therapist every week for help with my back. My next appt with her is scheduled for 39w4d, I told her she has my permission to massage my ankles and any other trigger points to possibly get labour going next weekend. However, if I deliver early/on time, it means I'll be missing Beauty and the Beast, which arrives in town the day after my due date. I'm still determined that if I'm overdue we're buying same-day tickets, throwing the hospital gear in the trunk, and going to the show!
MIL hasn't been doing so well lately, which it stressing out DH. In addition to her on-going wait for knee surgery, she recently did something to her ankle, has been having BP/heart issues that are being looked into (also on-going, but acting up recently), and this morning she was clipped by a car while crossing the street. It knocked her over and sent her to the hospital in an ambulance. There was concern the bump may have aggravated a head/neck issue from a car accident a few years ago (not to mention the joint issues), but she seems fine. Shaken up and will most likely be sore for a little while. At this point things can only start to look up, right?0 -
Well my whole birth plan just went out the window...Doctor checked at 36 weeks and "thought" she felt a head and that lil' boy had finally flipped and said that I'd get a US at 37, at 37 they didn't think they needed to. No check of the cervix AT ALL at 37 or 38 weeks...GUESS WHAT?? Today at 39 weeks (a different) Doctor checks and says...I can't feel a head or...anything. So we head over to the ultrasound machine. Kid is sitting transverse kickin' it old school...*sigh*.
Doctor gives three options:
1. we wait and see if he'll turn (only a 5% likelihood he will and we'll end up with a C-section);
2. we turn him externally (50% likelihood in the BEST situations) - means filling him and me with medication to relax the uterus, then manhandling him around which could lead to increased heart rate, separation of the placenta, and other bad crap that may end up equaling a C-section. Great part of this is the Doctor says "if it was earlier..." and I was like "you mean if you had actually checked at 37 and 38 weeks like the previous doctor said ya'll would?"; and
3. just scheduling a C-section
so yeah...waiting to hear back from the doctor's office on when they can get me in for the C-section. I'm 39 weeks so now I'm nervous I'll go into labor before I can get him out! I'm ok with a scheduled one but I'm scared of having to get stuck with an emergency C-Section.
Good news is that we'll be meeting him pretty soon?
*sigh*0 -
Faughorn- That really sucks. I'd be frustrated too, seeing as it could have been prevented.
BUT, excited for you that you'll get to see him soon. Let us know when you're scheduled!!:)0 -
Faug- I mentioned this in the 3rd tri board- but positive thoughts and prayers coming your way. Baby boy will be here soon enough. Enjoy your last weekend alone, mama.
JLS- same blood pressure issue here. Up in the beginning of the appointment and down by the end. I have to go in quite a bit to get checked but, oh well.
and sorry about your MIL- I hope things start to turn around for her.
I've been trying to get my emotions in check- happy, sad, excited, nervous, etc!!! I'm all over the place!0 -
Baby is here!!
Jovie Kay was born early this morning at 12:16 am...can share more of my birth story later, just wanted to give a quick update! Had contractions all day yesterday and had my bloody show yesterday morning. Around dinner time the contracitons were 5 min apart, so we headed in to the hospital. Wasn't dilating much more but they admitted me at 8 pm due to my contractions, and she was born only 4 hours later. Only pushed 1 1/2 times. Weighed in at 6 lbs 15 oz, 19 in long! We are doing great!!:)0 -

We almost lost October to the second page, so I'm bumping it back up again!
Looks like 2 down, 3 to go for October babies! Looking forward to hearing your birth stories, Jillsie and Faughorn!
I had my 39w3d appt today. Everything still going well. BP a up a bit again, but doctor said she's not concerned until the bottom number is close to 90 (last week it was 89). She asked how I was feeling (good, but tired) and if I wanted to have her strip my membranes, which would give me a 60% change of going into labour this weekend. I thought about it for a moment, the impatient side of me said, "Go for it!" the selfish side of me said, "I'd really like another weekend alone with DH!" so I passed. Was that a crazy move? I told her if I make to to my next appt at 40w3d we could do it then.
Baby dropped last week, so I can breathe again, but it also means my appetite is out of control some days because my stomach is no longer squished.I'm trying really hard not to eat everything in sight! Right now I'm giving into my craving for Kraft Dinner (I LOVE KD, but it's always a treat, not a regular meal at my house), and this weekend DH and I are going to our fave Italian restaurant. We've been going out every weekend lately with the excuse that it could be our last!
Sleep is hit or miss lately. I find I have a few nights of good sleep followed by a terrible night. Earlier this week I was wide awake around 4am (again, second time I've woken up that early), and last night it was about 2hrs before I fell asleep, and was awake around 5am. I could really go for a nap right now, but I'm hoping if I can get through the day and go to bed at my usual bed time (10pm) I'll be so tired I sleep well tonight. Just have to make sure I make it to my early-ish massage appt tomorrow morning!
BeckyJill - MIL is back to normal. I think she ended up with a bruised butt and was shaken up, but is otherwise fine. DH spoke with her for a few minutes last night, he said she spent the whole conversation complaining about SIL's breastfeeding technique. I knew there was a reason why we moved far away before starting our family. Sheesh!0 -
Thanks for bumping us jls. Looks like Faughorn had her baby too....congrats!!
jls-That's great that your baby has dropped, always a good thing. Mine never did last time & I had to "labor down" during labor. That's what the nurse called it. I still haven't dropped this time (but you usually don't the 2nd pregnancy until labor) & probably won't this time. Due date is tomorrow...ahhhhh!!! I'm pretty sure I lost my mucus plug last night. I've been having a ton of cramping the past few days too. I'm trying not to get my hopes up & think that every little thing means labor is about to start. I still have an induction set for Halloween if he isn't here yet. I'm the same with you on the sleep. Some nights are really good then once or twice a week i'll wake up extremely early & not be able to go back to sleep. It drives me crazy.
Beckyjill-My emotions are all over the place too....it's exhausting.
All the myths about inducing labor have been pouring in....you need to have sex, you need to do a lot of walking, you need to drink this tea, blah blah blah. I'm doing plenty. Like my dr. said nothing works & if it does you were already going into labor to begin with so it's just coincidence. I go to dr. again on Monday at 40 wks 3 days & he said if i'm already effaced then i can wait to go into hospital Wed. morning instead of Tuesday night. Fingers crossed!0 -

Looks like everyone's getting close...it's so exciting that we all started this/are finishing it together (well at least 5 of us are):)
Jovie's birth story: At my appointment last Wednesday (the 17th) I was 2-3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. But I'd been thinking if would still take a while just because (like I've said before), I had to be induced at 4 days overdue with my 2 year old. Was having cramping all this past weekend, but nothing consistent. On this past Monday morning I woke up with contractions- which were about 10 minutes apart, so just went about my day. That morning, I had my "bloody show". I never had that with my first daughter, but everything I read online said labor could still be a couple days away. The contractions lasted all day, but still were anywhere from 7-10 min apart. I was scheduled to work at 4:45, so when my daughter went down for her afternoon nap, I took a shower/got ready. Around that time, the contractions started getting more intense. I decided to call off work, seeing as I might be in labor:) and alerted my husband and Mom that I thought she was coming. When my husband got home from work, they were about 5-6 min apart so we ate a quick dinner then headed for the hospital.
We got there around 6pm. They took me into triage where they monitored my contractions, took down all my information and checked me. I was still only 3 cm dilated, so since I hadn't progressed much since my last appointment, they wanted me to walk around for an hour to see if I could progress any more. I walked around for an hour at which my point my contractions really intensified and they got to be 2-3 minutes apart- I was sure I had progressed. At 7:45, I went back to Triage where they told me I was still at 3cm! They decided to call the Doctor on call to see what the next step should be- I was so afraid they'd send me home! Anyway, they decided to admit me, and if I hadn't progressed by 6 am, they would start me on Pitocin.
So I was checked in to the hospital around 8pm, with awful back labor. I didn't have this last time, but Jovie decided to be posterior which caused all my contractions to be felt in my lower back. It was very hard to get on top of my contractions/breathe through it. I had to wait til 10:30ish to get an epidural (because they had to get so many fluids in me before they could put the epidural in). Well then, everything happened so fast. After the epidural (which they had to do twice- they didn't "like" the first line), they checked me and I was at 5. A half hour later I was at 8.5cm, and by 11:30 I was ready to push! When they broke my water, they found meconium in the fluid so they had to call nurses down from NICU for the birth to make sure baby hadn't ingested any of the meconium. Doctor had to help another woman first, so I couldn't start pushing til around midnight or soon after. I told the Doctor I'd push her out in no time flat- he predicted 2 pushes. It was actually 1 1/2 pushes and she came out!! Keep in mind, I had to push for 45 minutes with my first daughter, my labor was 26 hours with her, and she was 8 lbs 10 oz! With this one, my labor (from the time I was admitted) was 4 hours, I pushed for about 2 minutes, and she was a tiny peanut- 6 lbs 15 oz!! And she was completely healthy- hadn't ingested the meconium:)
Anyway- that's Jovie's story. We're home now, and she is eating really well!! Last night she slept for 5 hours at one stretch...I just can't get over how tiny she is!
Good luck to you all as you experience your "stories"...can't wait to hear them!
p.s. Did I mention she came 6 days early!! She was excited to meet us:)0 -
So exciting about Jovie! Congrats!!!
JLS- sounds about the same for me!
Sleep is hit or miss for me. I've been kind of in a daze lately. I got made fun of at work for being "mentally tired." Apparently, I wasn't making much sense while talking all morning!
I have been going twice a week to the dr because of my blood pressure. I went this morning (39 weeks, 4 days) and luckily, it was back to normal this morning. I'm about 1 cm dilated, still have my mucous plug and baby has dropped a little more. My dr. is great- he said dilation doesn't mean anything- I could go in to labor tonight. I do have the plug though and that's a sign that I probably won't go in to labor too soon. It'll happen when it happens.
I have an appointment scheduled for Monday and an ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday (in case baby's not here yet). The u/s will let the dr. get a better look at the baby and check the fluids. At that point, we'll schedule an induction, if necessary. Again, I'm hoping for none of these appointments!!! Come on baby!!
Kerr- so tired of the old wives tales. My nurse even told us to have sex today! Poor husband has such a mental problem(dilation weirds him out) right now- so it's not exactly easy to get him in the mood... Sorry TMI!
Lots of luck and positive thoughts ladies! Let's go babies!0 -
Today's update-40 wks 3 days-only dilated a fingertip. I have been having tons of cramping & low back pain plus pressure but that is still all that is happening. however I've been having brown discharge all day today. So still scheduled to go in tomorrow evening to start cervadil. At this point the induction is inevitable but it would be nice for my body to give it a little help gosh.0

Kerrbear- I was wondering today how things were coming for you!! Sounds like things are starting...Good luck with the induction either way and let us know soon about your little guy.
BeckyJill &Jls- Can't wait to hear what's going on with you as well!
I'm getting "back on track" today, starting to count calories after my week off. It's hard to not eat everything in sight when breastfeeding!! I'm RAVENOUS:) Anyway, look forward to continuing this journey with all of you after the babies come!0 -

Alexander Wyche S. Birth Story!!
So as most know I was scheduled to go in for a C-section on Monday the 22nd because lil' baby boy was transverse. We showed up at 5:30am to check in for the 7:30am procedure. Once in we found out SURPRISE #1 - our "scheduled" C-section wasn't on the schedule at the hospital, just with the anesthesiologist...so we had to wait around to find out if they could fit us. They said they could do it at 8 (so not too far off). Went in for the pre-op and they did a last ultrasound and SURPRISE #2 the lil' pooper flipped on us and was facing down! The doctor at my previous appointment had said there was only a 5% chance of that happening! Doctor said I wasn't dilated so she didn't want to induce and asked if I wanted to stick around for an elective C-section. I said "nope" and we headed home.
All Monday I sat on my birthing ball...sad...thinking that I wanted to meet my kid! I had been all set and prepared for the C-section so now I had to get back in the frame of mind for a natural birth.
Tuesday...waiting...bouncing...walking...
Tuesday night, we decide to go SPICY and hurry this kid up! Dozen Carribean Jerk and Asian Zing wings from BWW and an episode of Downton Abbey would make me feel better right? Got about 6 wings in and thought...hmm...that feels funny. Got up and started walking for the bathroom and ALMOST made it when I felt my water break! (approximately 7:30pm) Yeah that whole "I wonder if my water broke" thing? I KNEW what it was, had NO idea I was holding that much inside of me!
I stupidly thought that I would change my pants...yeah once that sucker breaks it just keeps on going! So we packed up the car and headed to the birthing center (approximately 8:00pm).
So we check in at the hospital, they do everything they had done the day before...although did a MUCH crappier job at the IV...OUCH! And we headed back to the labor room. My mom met Mark and me there and she stayed with us through the night. I was only dilated about 1cm at this point, 2 station, and 50% effaced (9:00pm) so the doctor gave us about an hour to see if I progressed...NOPE. She started the pitocin at around 10:30pm. At that point the daggone labor pains got a TON worse! I labored for another couple of hours, we walked the halls, we played a game of Phase 10, and the pain just got worse and I was still failing to progress.
All through this time the nurses would come in and have me roll from one side to another side but hadn't really told me why.
Doctor comes in around 4am (10/24 - MY DUE DATE!!) and says that every time I had a contraction the baby's heart rate dropped and none of the moving me around was helping. They thought that there was something going on with the umbilical cord, that he was stuck on it or something. Either way, I wasn't progressing and the doctor didn't want me to go past 18 hours of labor (StrepB+). She wanted to run a wire in and around the baby to keep track and then up the pitocin more but didn't seem real positive that it would help. Since I wasn't progressing after 10 hours of pitocin and everything else, she recommended C-section.
I got prepped for surgery.
NERVOUS....
Received the epidural (so weird) and my husband came in to go through with the surgery with me. Maybe 15 minutes after they started we heard a cry! Most beautiful sound I have ever heard!! They showed him to us and then took him over to weigh him. You have no idea how gorgeous he was! I started crying (of course). Then the nurse brought our baby boy over for us to hold for a minute before he was taken to the nursery. Mark went with our new baby and I stayed and got stitched up!
He is such a wonderful baby! We were in the hospital for three days and headed home on Saturday!0 -
Jillsie and Faughorn - Congrats on the babies, they are super cute! Hopefully everything is going well at home!
BeckyJill - I know what you mean about being "mentally tired". I can't remember anything lately and have been relying on lists to get through my day! If I don't write something down, I'll forget to do it. I've actually had decent sleeps the past few nights, which is...odd. I'm kind of wondering if my baby moved back up a bit, I can still breathe, but my hips/back haven't been as bad.
KerrBear - Good luck with the induction today!
I'm 40w1d, so officially over due! I went to the gym and had a good, brisk walk on the treadmill yesterday. I had frequent BH contractions all night on Sunday and into Monday morning, so I thought some cardio would help get things going. I did get some stronger contractions going while at the gym and was hopeful that yesterday would be "the day", but they died down in the afternoon and I've had hardly any BH since. If I make it to my next appointment on Thursday I will definitely let my doctor sweep my membranes this time. I don't want to go the full 10 days over. I'm done!
DH was really disappointed he had to get up and go to work yesterday, and seemed cranky last night. I don't know which one of us is more anxious to get this baby out! :laugh:0 -
Good luck Kerr!!! Can't wait to hear about your bundle of joy!
Congrats Faug- you're little man is adorable!
Oh Jls- I got really excited Saturday because the baby was moving up a storm and I swear I felt her drop more... No dice. Went to the dr. Monday and I still don't have a "favorable" cervix- hard and anterior. I hear you about wondering if the baby moved back up! I thought the same thing Monday! Who knows!
I did lose my mucous plus this morning- that's awesome! Some progress makes me happy! I am going in to get an ultrasound tomorrow to check out my fluid levels and make sure the baby is ok. I really don't want to go the full week overdue but if baby doesn't come on her own, she'll be here Monday.
I'm really hoping baby comes on her own. I really don't want to be induced... but if that's what happens then that's what has to happen...
Haha- lists are my lifesaver right now too. I think I should be done working but I don't want to waste my time off... My poor customers... I'm so slow right now!
Good luck mamas- babies will be here so soon!!0 -
Looks like I'm going to be a November mom instead of an October mom! Had my 40w3d appt this morning. Dialated 3cm, baby is at -2 station, and my doctor "stretched" things a little while she was in there. Holy unpleasant! Started my bloody show late last night along with mild and short contractions that were 8-15 mins apart for about 3-4 hours. I barely slept a wink, I finally dozed off some time after 4am when the contractions died down. DH was aware of the situation, but he fell back to sleep, and even though he slept through most of it he still tossed, turned, and snored like a trooper, which didn't help me get any rest. Contractions started up again while I was in the waiting room at my appointment, and while they are a bit stronger than the previous ones, they're still not terribly strong, and not in a regular pattern yet (just had a bunch that were ~5 mins apart, but it's been 12 mins since the last...). I probably didn't need to, but I called DH at work and asked him to come home, mostly because I don't want to sit here getting anxious all by myself! I can tell my cat totally knows something is up. He's been following me around since I got home, and is sprawled across my lap right now instead of sleeping in his usual spot on our bed. Funny how pets can tell when something is going on!0

Sorry- didn't mean to post that last one, meant to quote you Jls- sounds close!! Any news from anyone?? I'm anxious to hear how we all "finish":)0
-
Oh my goodness finally having time to sit down for a minute to post my birth story. ...
I went in to the hospital on 10/30 at 3:30 to check-in as scheduled for an induction. We waited over an hour in the waiting room because they weren't ready for us (they were super busy that day-lots of babies). Then I was taken to OB triage while we waited still. They monitored baby while I was in there & I was having consistent contractions, 3 to 6 minutes apart. They had actually started that morning. They weren't super painful but that was the first day any of mine actually hurt. I had also been having brown discharge for 2 days, feeling lots of pressure below, & having terrible back pain (so I knew something was going on.) I finally got to my L&D room around 7:00. The dr. came in at 7:20 to give my first dose of the cytotec to soften my cervix. At this point I was still just barely 1 cm & no effacing really. I told him it felt like I had been having contractions all day. He said yeah you are definitely having them. So because of my status he felt it was safe to go home, obviously. I opted for something to help me sleep so I could be very rested for the long labor ahead of me the next day. I took an Ambien at 9:45. Laid my head down around 10:15 when it was really kicking in. The next thing I remember I am having very very strong contractions. This was probably 10:30 or so. Because I was loopy from the Ambien I tried sleeping through them-nope wasn't happening. By 11:00 they were so bad I told my husband when the nurse comes in I needed something for the pain asap. I was due for my 2nd dose of cytotec around that time so I knew she would be any minute. Now the next half hour everything happened so fast it was surreal-like a dream. She comes in there, checks me & says wow she is 7 cm!. Next thing I know there are about 5 nurses in there scrambling around to get my epidural stuff ready, telling me they were working as fast as they could so just hang in there & try to breathe...ha. I was in so much pain. So i'm in a fetal position squeezing the life out of my husband's hand & felt my water break. Wow that was weird- a huge gush everywhere. I yelled out I think my water just broke! Then seconds later I said I feel like I have to push! They were telling me no no no do not push yet. I said I HAVE TO!! Then I heard omg she's crowning & then them warning me it might burn lol. Next thing I know I bare down (just one slight push) & swoosh he comes flying out. That part didn't hurt-it was just the contractions that about killed me. He was born at 11:23 pm. So all of that happened within an hour. I am still in shock over how it all happened. The cord was wrapped around his neck so he was having trouble breathing at first & it was awhile before he cried. I honestly did not even know that was happening because I was still in shock. I was shaking uncontrollably while the dr. finally arrived in time to deliver the placenta. He said he ran one red light trying to get there so maybe he should've run all 3. I had 2 1st degree tears. I have been having a great recovery. Kingston Bryce is such an awesome baby. He is nursing perfectly. Our first night home last night he only woke up twice. We are in heaven!!!!
Looking forward to hearing the other birth stories.0 -
My sweet, precious baby Michael was born on October 14th at 5:01 PM weighing in at 9 lbs 4 oz and 22" long. Sadly, he had aspirated meconium in the womb and during an emergency csection, the Dr's discovered that my uterus had ruptured. My baby was life flighted to a hospital with a NICU 2 hours away. Due to lack of oxygen, Michael had fought for his life for four days and he passed away peacefully in my arms on October 18th.

So sorry for your loss, nicolenoel. I can't imagine what you are going though. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.0 -
Congrats to Kerrbear- what a crazy birth story! Good for you for doing one epidural-free! Love the name, btw:)
Jls- congrats as well, can't wait to hear the story. Love the name Rose too!:)
Nicolenoel- so heartbreaking to hear your birth story. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.0 -
Thanks, yeah it was C-R-A-Z-Y in every way, but I loved it. I'm a very big wimp & was definitely planning on an epidural plus the iv pain meds (which is what I did last time) so that was the extreme opposite of what I had planned.
So so so so sorry for your loss nicolenoel. =( You have an angel in heaven.0 -
Congratulations Kerr and jls
And Nicole...I am so sorry for your loss0 -
Finally managed to find a bit of time to write Rose's birth story:
I started having brown discharge around 10pm on Halloween night and had mild contractions that were 8-15 mins apart from about 1am-4am on Nov 1. They went away, but returned around 10am while I was waiting to see my OB/GYN for my weekly appointment. She checked me out, said I was 3cm and baby was at -2, and gave things a stretch (not pleasant). During my drive home the contractions were still mild but started getting a bit stronger and closer together. So I did what any normal woman would do, I went to Starbucks (ha!) and ran an errand at the drug store before going home. Called DH around noon and told him to come home because contractions were regular and getting closer together. Arrived at the hospital at about 3pm, contractions still were not painful but had been 5 mins apart for almost 2 hours. My water was broken some time after 4pm (4cm at this point), and we walked the hall for a bit while my contractions grew a bit stronger (but still not bad. Like a 4/10). Supper was delivered around 5:30 and things REALLY picked up at that point. A few bites into my meal the contractions got pretty strong (7/10) and about 2-3 mins apart. Tried sitting on the stability ball, standing, different chairs, and the pain suddenly increased to 10/10 and contractions were a minute apart, sometimes less. Around 6:30ish I asked for the epidural, and the nurse started scrambling to get the tools ready for the doctor because I was progressing in a way that she thought I was going to pop that baby out any minute. Epidural was in just after 7pm, and after about 10 minutes I was in a numb bliss. Contractions died off (go figure!), so after a while I was given a small dose of Pitocin to speed things up again. Started pushing around 10:30, took a few practice pushes to get going and the amount of time between contractions made the actual delivery take a while. DH was an awesome cheerleader and was facinated with watching the whole thing. The nurse asked if I wanted the mirror so I could see, and despite always thinking it was weird and I'd never want to see what was going on down there, I decided to go for it. I watched for 1 push, and even though it was oddly neat, I had the nurse take it away because it was almost like I could feel pain just from seeing her head pushing through. Doctor arrived at that point, and Rose was born a few minutes later at 11:48pm, weighing 7lbs 12oz and 21.5" long. Ended up with a second degree tear that started up in the birth canal, not just the perineum, and had plenty of bruising in the nether regions. I think Rose was trying to ensure she is an only child with the damage she did (so far it's working!) I'm hoping to join DH and Rose for a short walk tomorrow, as today was the first day I felt like I could walk normally! Breasfeeding was quite a struggle for the first few days and we even opted to stay at the hospital for an extra night to get some more help. Most feeds are pretty smooth now, but still have the odd one that doesn't go so well. The sleep deprivation and hormones have been doing quite the number on me, lots of emotional ups and downs the past few days, but hoping things level out soon! My parents arrive in a few days, so looking forward to seeing them and having the extra help around the house!0
