Machine Weights

Thanks for the tips! I definitely want to build muscles, especially in my upper body. My lower body is way more muscular than my top, between my half-marathon training and the physical therapy I was doing for my hip (which was mostly core, glute and leg strength training). I can't even do 1 push-up though!0

I want to reply to this with another question.
I'm not ready for weights really IMO, unless someone tells me I am. I still have 60ish pounds until my goal weight.
So for now, isn't it in my best interest to lose some more weight and get maybe 20-25 pounds within my goal before trying to change body composition?
Honestly? I'm terrified of not losing "weight" and remaining @ 200ish pounds with muscle, instead of say 140-150 with muscle. I know, the scale is not our friend, but really I don't want to be this weight with or without muscle.0 -

Take a look at Lorina's pics and see what you think.

Here's a great pic showing why weight lifting is important and the scale lies- (it's what I use to remind me) and it's Lorina

I have seen her pictures before and am in awe! She looks 100% fabulous!
However, she started off at 130 and changed her composition and maintained that weight. I would be okay with that, if I was 140-150. However, at 205.7 pounds right now, I'm not okay with that. I'm not sure if I'm saying it the right way to make sense? I guess I don't want to be a fat 200 pounds, nor do I want to be a muscular 200 pounds is the better way of putting it?
I just don't know if weights are right for me, with having a good chunk to lose? I'm just really confused here.0 -

Don't worry about the program she was using just realize that she was using a weight training program that did 3 days heavy weights and 2 cardio days and lost 89lbs doing it. http://www.teambeachbody.com/connect/success/-/user-story/1318685210 -
I am a HUGE fan of freeweights. They are the 1st things I go to when I do my lifting routines. HOWEVER I have done a few machines lately and I notice they hit my muscles in a different fashion. So they do have benefits. I think freeweights can be intimidating to someone first starting out so I would recommend machines because they show you how to use them. Freeweights don't come w/ pics and instructions, so you need to have a pretty good idea of what you are doing before you use them. Also w/ freeweights you have to be much more conscious of your FORM which will make or break your lifting routine. That being said, I think either machines or freeweights are fine because they each provide different benefits.0

I weigh 195 and I have lost 16 inches but my weight actually went up 5lbs. I think I look much better now at a muscular 195 than I did when I was just soft 180lbs and believe it or not, I'm the exact same size, 15lbs heavier0 -

See, now this I can understand, because this is exactly what I want!0 -
By the way this is the program that I am doing and having great results. I haven't lost weight but didn't need to but I have lost close to 9inches all over already and only 5 weeks into the 12 week program.0

I like this thread!
Just got back from the Gym - NROL4W workout 2B.
Somethings like pulldowns - you need a machine,
otherwise if possible, i go for the freeweights.0
