A few things ladies need to know and accept

It is not that I am looking for a bad boy/nice guy. I just want a guy that is a more of a man then I am.
I grew up a tom boy in the country. I was taught to survive on my own and know how to do the stereotypical "guy" things. I can use a hammer and nail, change my own tire, and grew up playing and talking sports. Not saying that I am not into girly things either, aka pedicures, clothes, scared of spiders etc. So a guy that has to call a handy man to do the small things around the house is a turn off. It seems there is a whole generation of guys my age (at least the ones I meet) that are the "Why do it myself when I can hire someone else to do it" era. I am also very assertive in my life outside of romantic relationships. I am not saying I am a ball buster but a guy needs a backbone to even be an interest to me. If I can walk all over you I will never be attracted to you. To many guys my age seem to think they are entitled to things and take too many things for granted. This might be why I am usually attracted to military guys or guys that grew up on farms. Both of those are very hard to find where I am currently living.

LMAO! Yeh .. I agree with this too. I love it when a guy starts to do something and I am just like .. you can do that?? lol. My best friends husband would hire someone to change a freaking light bulb I swear.. I find that so unattractive. At least TRY! lol I helped my exhusband build our house .. I was a part of almost every process .. from helping to put the studs in to helping hang the siding. Not that I am an expert by any means .. but I can do some stuff .. lol. Then when I bought my house .. I even changed out the outside lights and continue to do most everything that needs to be done.
So I guess what it boils down to is .. the guy has to be a guy. lol.0 -
My ex used to not do certain things in our apt because maintenance could do it... EASY things that would have taken him 5 minutes.. I'd lose my girl boner each and every time. Blah!!!!
Shoot, do the manly thing for me even if it's just to impress me. Smiley moved all my heavy boxes to my new place last night by himself. He got all sweaty and yummy and had this determined manly look on his face.0 -

What sort of easy things?0 -
Changing the A/C filter. I even started doing it after a while instead of waiting on the maintenance guy.0

this is me. i don't want someone that has manicured hands. i like them big, and rough, and well used! i want someone that can build me a coop and pen for my chickens! huge plus if he likes motorcycles and fishing. i used to live on 175 acre farm in WI. loved absolutely every second of it!
i don't want a guy in pointy toe italian leather shoes. i like BOOTS! boots boot boots! LOL
but, he has to be able to kiss!! and take charge in bed :-)
i can't find guys that like where i am either. there aren't any single guys where i am though, for the most part......This might be why I am usually attracted to military guys or guys that grew up on farms. Both of those are very hard to find where I am currently living.0 -
I just want to say...
I men. I really do.0 -

The A/C filter is an easy change. Maintenance should not need to do that IMO.0 -
i taught myself how to change the headlight bulbs on my car :-) probably not too hard, but i was really pleased with myself when i figured it out!
a/c filters are a piece of cake!0 -

I work in a farm equipment dealership which also has homeowner customers.
You would be shocked at how little most people can do for themselves and appalled at how entitled they feel regarding someone else doing it or solving every problem they have.0 -

My ex was not handy at all and it was a total turnoff to me. The dryer in my house broke once and I had to figure out how to fix it via google. He just tried to tape the thing shut...yea that worked out well! :grumble: I also asked him to change the air condition filter which is below ground. He acted like a wussy and scared of spiders! OMG he was not manly at all. Did I mention he is my ex.... :drinker:0 -
My mom told me to never date a man who can't use some kind of power tool. I thought it was good advice.
I grew up on a cattle ranch, helping my dad build barbed-wire fences, driving tractors and riding horses as a toddler. So yeah, if you can't fix something or build something, I'm probably just going to think you're a wuss.0 -

He KNEW how, he was just too damn lazy or arrogant to do it.. not sure. Either way, I always felt my ex wasn't manly enough for my taste.0 -

I think it is best to do simple repairs yourself when you are a tenant in an apartment complex with a full time maintenance staff. A/C filter is an easy thing to do. However, there are repairs that will come up that are somewhat complicated. I recently had a malfunctioning electrical outlet in my kitchen. I would have had the tools and the know how to remove the old nonfunctioning outlet and that would not have been a problem. However, I did not have the supplies on hand to install and test a new outlet, so I did put in a maintenance request on that one.
Being a homeowner is a much different scenario and as a homeowner, I likely would have approached that problem differently. My ex was not handy at all and it was a total turnoff to me. Dryers are not easy to fix, so I see his side of the story there. Granted, I see your point about a lack of initiative. Just taping a thing without doing research on Google if you don’t know what you’re doing isn’t showing a desire to get a job done. But there are times when dryers break when professional help would be needed. I think it is fair to try to tackle a project yourself first before arranging to have professional help come in. Scared of spiders is not an excuse in itself though (depends on how bad the spider situation is). There are ways to protect yourself against spiders if it is not an abnormal manifestation.0 -
I will give a guy a pass on fixing things that deal electricity and are expensive like washers and dryers other then daily maintenance especially if they have no training. My dad was an electrician so I know some of the damage it can afflict.
I just think that if I can learn to do something in shop in jr high that as an adult a guy should be able to do the same thing or at least be able to read instructions well enough to complete something.0 -
This where I'd lose all of you. I can bring all of the excitement you could want, but I don't fix things. I pay someone to do it right or I buy a new one. I value my time more than I value stuff.0

my ex did electrical stuff ( like fans, lights, dishwasher/ disposal) he built me raised beds for my garden. and put in a stone garden style walk way in the front of the house. but, he wouldn't let me touch a thing. i wasn't allowed near anything. or allowed to help. LOL!!
he hired people to do stuff that he didn't want to. he was big on saving money and valued HIS time more than anything.
i need an enclosed run built for my chickens. while i would love to be able to do it all on my own, i need another set of hands. a good man that knows his way around powers tools, plumb-bobs and making sure things are level.0 -

yeah....hehe... but you're one of the rare guys whose monthly entertainment budget is greater than my living expenses. You've worked hard and deserve to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor rather than laboring in your off time.0 -

I might have to learn some of that when I retire (I'll have more time on my hands then, too).0 -

I do the exact same thing.... My time is worth a lot.0 -

I figured out how to fix the dryer all by myself....changed the part out and everything. He was just too lazy to even try....That's what annoyed me! It's nice to have help around the house once and a while.
And as far as the spiders, I didnt even see any! He was just a wuss! But I have to admit it was pretty entertaining to watch him freak out! :laugh:0
