It goes both ways.. (just playing devil's advocate, [obviously I'm a fan of EM2WL])

I went to the main forums and promoted EM2WL. The thread reached 500 responses then mfp locked it. I reached people who never heard of the group. Many joined and spreaded the word to others. I received a lot of thank you messages from new supporters as a result of it. A few negative remarks were made but most of them we're willing try the EM2WL method. Sometimes its how you relate your point determines the response or attitude you receive back.

Example: Some people in the EM2WL group has posted on their profile quote If you eat 1200 calories and your starving yourself don't friend me because I want support this type of eating.

Okay .... A person in this situation will get angry first because you totally bashed them. Never gave the person a chance to experience or learn about EM2WL. Your blatantly telling that person you want nothing to do with them.

From my experience people want to try EM2WL but not be handled in that manner....
Conclusion ...My experienc overall promoting outside the group was very rewarding.

Sometimes when your words are not received in a helpful caring manner you have lost an opportunity to ever be helpful to that individual.

    I love this.

I discovered this group a couple of months ago after someone had started a thread about it. Its really been the best thing to happen to me since I found MFP. I am eating eating almost double what I was eating and now losing a bit over 1lb a week. I can understand why some people don't believe in it. It just seems too good to be true. However, I am a bit of a math geek and the math definitely supports EM2WL.

Joining this group has made me get over my 'stall' which I've struggled with for the past year, so I'm here to stay :)

I think there's so much emotion tied to all of our personal journeys. I don't take it personally. I think it's hard for someone who feels like a different way is the "right" answer to hear so many of us saying that low-cal is wrong. I try to be as polite as I can and not get my feathers too ruffled - they might come around someday.

I don't mind being friends with 1200 calorie eaters.....and as long as they don't try to tell me what I am doing is wrong, I will have some respect for their choice too. However....if any gets snippy with me, I'll nix them. I did get concerned with how little someone was eating at one point, and made sure I kept all my responses in the vein of being concerned for the person, but they swore they had their BMR pro measured and it was just insanely low, so I let it rest and we moved back on to supporting each other. I am not anyone's mother or boss and I am going to do my best to act properly, but it would be nice to not encounter so much negativity about our chosen method.

I think people have just been religiously fed caloric dogma for so long, they can't comprehend a different method where they don't have to starve all the time....it DID take me a few weeks to even wrap my head around this and I did a lot of reading and video watching, but then I didn't just dip a toe in, I did a full blown canonball (PS - I am NOT going back.....EVER!). Just remember that a single pebble tossed into a large still pond creates many ripples. The message will be delivered, slowly, but surely....even if it IS only a trickle down effect at first!

Love this thread. I have mentioned before, I appreciate the respect that we all have for one another and the welcoming environment. I chose not to debate, but share the information in love. Honestly, most of the time these days I don't have time to get on the main boards too often, but if I see a "Help" I go right out there, friend and then send an invite to the group. Allow people to make their own decisions, I don't think there has been a time they haven't read for themselves and been happy EM2WL family additions...

well.. if the negative-mongers dont want to bask in the glory of all that is food-porn, Id say, let the buggers starve...

Well I would rather be a part of this cult and losing more weight eating 2000 calories a day instead of 1200. so they can all bite me.

that's just it--they can't bite you as they are strict 1200 and below diets.

Some of those people also believe that A) We eat as much as we want, B) We eat anything we want, and C) we dont exercise.

Let's add a "D" - we are all into heavy lifting - I see that mentioned "over there" a lot.

Its really no different than the group of women who are eating 2000 cals a day. But I think because we grew so incredibly fast, that people are a bit scared by the notion. Ignorance is bliss to many people.. they would rather put their head in the sand and plug along starving themselves..

Things will change in say 6 months when we show them just how many of us are a SUCCESS doing this way of life..

^^^^^^ This! In a few months the success stories are going to make jaws drop! And our group will double in numbers!
.....am I really terrible to be a tiny bit selfish of our close knit community...? Hehe. :blushing: Just a tiny bit though...theres a lot of love and knowledge to spread around!!

So true. I would kill people if I only ate 1200 a day. I would be so crabby, who wants to live like that. Life is to short.

Hi there, welcome to the group!

You know when you are in the group because at the top of the page it says |Message Boards > Eat More to Weigh Less > Discussion.

To start a thread you click on the "New Topic" button.

    Hope that helps.

Well .. YEA. Or as I told the Starvation Myth dude ... pass the Kool Aid.

I just don't get WHY anyone would hate on properly fueling their bodies, leaning up, keeping metabolisms healthy, gaining eating and exercise habits that are sustainable for LIFE. Losing Weight,. Oh .. and being HAPPY while doing it. Oh well ... build it and they will come. :)

My experience has been that the main board is just negative and snarky and general. The private groups are, generally speaking, much more pleasant.

Also, I could see from one of the recent EMTWL "hate" threads, most of the people bashing it have never actually bothered to learn what it is. The seem to think it means sitting on your *kitten* and gorging yourself on crap food. Or, they skimmed through, upped calories for a few weeks (which sometimes means eating a lot of junk food), gained some and freaked out and decided this doesn't work.

Oh, another thing is, for many people just starting out, they really understand how weight loss works. They don't get that if they're netting insanely low and they lose 5 pounds in a week, that they're just losing water and muscle and not much fat. All they care about is the scale and their BMI, they don't yet understand the importance of body fat % and inches. So for them, any way of eating that gives them less than a minimum 2lb loss a week is a "failure."

At any rate, we know we're awesome :D

Half the people in that stupid thread were just arguing over semantics because they didn't realize the meaning of "more", and half of them said "no i don't believe in it at all.. I eat 1600 and eat back my exercise cals. *face plam* duh. by our standards, that's eating more.. *kitten*..,

And people must have posted the group addy saying here are all your answers to all your questions. And not one person read, just kept saying - i don't understand... blah blah blah. Quit yer complaining and do some research!

Reading that thread gave me a headache.

I have been using MFP for 2 weeks. I spent the first week or so on mfp doing the 1200 thing. Just about starved! Felt terrible had a headache and i was getting pretty mean!! No possible way i could ever sustain that for any real length of time. I stumbled onto this group purely by accident. THANK GOD! Did the research and it just made so much more sense! I don't know why anyone would care what we do in this group it has no effect on them whatsoever. I think they are jealous and hungry! They will see the light when we are all thin and not starved! I love this group! The people in it are genuine! Im here to stay for the long haul!! PASS THE KOOLAID!

My husband is very happy that I'm part of this group. I tend to get rather mean and snarly when hungry.

SAME HERE. I am just a different person now I'm eating (WAY) more than 1200 cals (probably 1600 - 1800 deficit YIKES).

I no longer feel the need to bash everyone's head in, or snap at everything around me!!!!!

Plus I can finally enjoy eating again which is always a nice positive :)

Ooh and I'm very glad you found this group so soon into your journey - I wish I had known this stuff 3 ish years ago when I started the starvation/binge process.

    Good luck and welcome :)

I haven't binged since I started EM2WL in May! I used to be horrible about it. Starve myself on 1200 calories all week and then go nuts because I was so hungry. Ugh! So glad I'm out of that cycle.

I too am new to the group, I was a 1600 calorie eater for about a year ( BMR is 1905) and have been stalled for about 6 months of that year! I was looking for a new perspective and found you guys, been resetting for a week and had sooo much more energy, getting a better workout and getting much better sleep! it took me while to get my head around it but now I have it makes so much sense, I will never be going back to eating such a small amount again and feeling drained. I love eating more :)
I am glad to be in this "cult" :flowerforyou:

Well, I just went to see what else was said on that thread after I left and it has been removed. Soo...apparently it got even more interesting. It was pretty entertaining

I know. I looked for it the next day and it was gone. Wonder what fun we missed?
