Hey all,

So the Olympics will start in just under 2 weeks. How's things looking for Jamaica this year? As usual I am looking forward to our athletes on the track but at the same time dreading my commute to work during the Olympics and Paralympics since I live and work in London.

Share your predictions here as well as feel free to discuss anything Olympics/Paralympics related here during the games.

I am looking forward to it too, but sadly I dont think we will be as successful as in Beijing. I am hoping for some pleasant surprises though because I dont think anyone of us can honestly say we knew what would have happened in Beijing in that period leading up to it. I have always loved the Summer Olympics...I love watching all the sports, even down to that ribbon twirling thing in gymnastics...lol. I am a sports person so I will be in heaven, or at least on cloud 9, in the coming weeks. I love the stories behind the athletes from all around the world and I cheer for people I have never heard of before jusT because their stories are so touching.

I cant wait, even though I am already down to know that one of my favourite persons to cheer for wont be there. Blanka Vlasic of Croatia wont be able to recover from injury soon enough.

Speaking of which, will Paula Radcliff be there this year? One of my funniest Olympic moments was seeing her stop in the middle of the marathon to peepee on the roadside...lol...lol....lol

BTW...What do you guys think of the Cedella Marley designed Team Jamaica costumes?

what event does this croatian person compete in?
not sure if paul radcliff is still competing of she retired. who knows, she might even be pregnant again.

i have seen the costumes for the opening ceremony and wasn't very impressed. whilst i could live with the outfit for the guys, the one for the girls was horrible in my opinion.

Blanka does high jump. She is that tall, skinny, big eyed girl.

I dont mind Bolt in his because I can see him being comfortable with that seeing as he is so easy going but I will have to see the other guys in it seeing that not everybody may look good or feel comfortable in gold pants. The ladies just look too militant...kinda too stiff for the easy going personality that Jamaicans are known for.

yea, i agree with your comments about the ladies outfit. i didn't fancy the shoes with that outfit either.

is jamaica competing in any other event apart from atlethics?

lol...I didn't even pay attention to the shoes. I saw on Facebook where Bolt is bigging up the clothes so I suppose he likes it.

I know of track and field events (the usual running, plus steeplechase, discus, triple jump, long jump, shot putt and decathalon), equestrian, swimming and taekwondo. I dont think the rifle shooting person will be there this year.

oh cool. let me know when those other events will be so i can keep an eye out. as usual when it comes to olympics i only pay attention to track events, gymnastics and swimming. some of these sports like football, tennis i dont think should be in the olympics

I'm super excited for the Olympics but selfishly concerned about how I'm going to get to the Tarrus Riley concert with transport problems. It seems though that some of the athletes are already in the UK as my friend who is on the team gave me the heads up that he's in Birmingham already!

    Lawddd mi cyah wait! :D

which events you have tickets for tony? i didn't like the ticketing system at all as it seems like a lottery and you weren't sure which event you would be getting tickets for, they just give you whatever they fancy. one of my past work colleagues had applied for tickets and got only beach volleyball. what a waste lol

I'm going to the Athletics on Wednesday the 8th August. I think the only reason I got them was most people didn't realise how good a evening that is!

I cant wait for the opening ceremony. I know I will be a zombie for those weeks of the olympics because I dont want to miss a thing. I stay up late at night to watch even weight lifting and wrestling and some of the other sports we are not it.

I too noticed there is another ackee here. Welcome to MFP. Did you guys realized your namesake was chose as the #2 national dish in the world by National Geographic?

Quite an intereting list of dishes on that top 10. Great to see barbados flying fish made it too. I have actually been to that restaurant mentioned in the comment. I remember I had a fish dish but don't think it's this one.

Nice to see burger, goulash and roast beef and yorshire pud on the list too.

I'll watch everything, I do anyway but at least now it will stop me watching Man Vs Food and Drive-ins diners and dives and them shows when I'm at home!

Them shows are part of the Meditation! So much of our enjoyment of food isn't actually ingesting it. Those shows and Just walking Past McDonalds can get you by some days!

lol lol, well if you are entertaining for lunch i can't see any reason why your guests would expect to still be there at 4pm, unless they think you are offering them dinner as well.

Well people...the fever is in full effect for me and right now I am trying to be extra busy at work (while still checking MFP...LOL) because come 2:30pm the latest I am bolting out of here to watch the opening ceremony from the comfort of my home. There is a working tv in my office but I dont want to have to miss anything when I have to leave here at closing time and drive home. That tv and the computer will come in handy as of next week when I shall be "working hard and not paying attention to anything olympics"...lol...or so they think.
